- Slashered, on 03/23/2009, -1/+151Seriously, the name is retarded.
- netcowboy, on 03/24/2009, -0/+67I predict this will end up like "Classic Coke" and they'll have to bring the old name back.
- TheDamnBatman, on 03/24/2009, -1/+61SyFylis
- Arvin, on 03/24/2009, -0/+52SyFy is worse than New Coke.
- missjb, on 03/23/2009, -0/+40Give 'em both barrels, sci-fi founder
- chrisvc86, on 03/24/2009, -0/+37Almost 99.9% of all comments I see on all the various blogs covering the name change are negative. I'm surprised they haven't change it back from all the backlash. It really is a stupid name.
- Chompy, on 03/24/2009, -1/+31Now that they no longer have BSG to justify their existence, hopefully this network will quickly SyDie.
- TheMachine1, on 03/24/2009, -0/+27SyFy sounds like an evil plot to replace Sci-Fi dramas with low budget reality shows( you know pull a MTV).
- fumbduck, on 03/24/2009, -2/+26Isaac Asimov would have been right!
- Nickolassc, on 03/24/2009, -0/+24New Coke was a dirty trick to switch to HFCS without anyone noticing the crappy taste difference. Drink a mexican coke if you want the real thing. :D
- chrissku, on 03/24/2009, -1/+24SyFy is Polish slang for Syphillis.
http://www.newser.com/story/53933/polish-meaning-o ... - Chaulis, on 03/24/2009, -1/+22The channel has been killing off good shows, and replacing them with "real" ghost hunters for long enough that the name is fitting. The list of really good shows that Sci Fi has killed is amazing. Let it reveal its true nature and show the pop-culture overgrowth that has seeped in. Might as well call it the ghost hunters channel for all it matters.
- aaron4, on 03/24/2009, -0/+19it makes me cringe almost as bad as when i heard Anakin Skywalker called "Sky Guy" in the animated clone wars.
- herrshuster, on 03/24/2009, -3/+21Seriously? have you ever been around SF nerds? or even...vaguely been into it?
It's very common. - RandomGorilla, on 03/24/2009, -1/+19Why do I get the feeling that this is one big April Fools joke?
- diggydougie, on 03/24/2009, -0/+15Monsters, ghosts, and wrestling are not science fiction. But then again they put UFO shows on the History channel.
- popzero, on 03/24/2009, -0/+14In the old days, kids, even those who said "SciFi" were looked down upon by those who said "SF." But SyFy? That's just crapulicious.
- mickaloha, on 03/24/2009, -1/+14The "founder" should have not sold his idea. When he did that, he gave up his rights. With that being said, they should rename the channel "Play anything we can to make a buck and be just like everyone else" channel AKA USA2.
- LuckyASN, on 03/24/2009, -0/+13BRING BACK MST3K!!!!
- diggydougie, on 03/24/2009, -0/+12I don't give a ***** about the name. I do care about the programming. And the current direction makes me think that soon I won't care about any of it.
- LuckyASN, on 03/24/2009, -0/+11If the crap-tastic reception G4 has couldn't bring back Tech-TV, I doubt we'll ever have our good ol' sci-fi back once the change goes through.
- yacks, on 03/24/2009, -0/+9I say we start a new channel now and call it the SciFi Channel..
- DeepFreezed, on 03/24/2009, -2/+11NBC is a joke network
- FriedTurkey, on 03/24/2009, -0/+9 Isaac Asimov would have said "Why do these movies on this channel suck so bad?"
- Leathersoup, on 03/24/2009, -1/+9Apparently Science was pissed off at the lack of science being shown on the station and asked for it's name to not be used anymore.
- Arrestedevelopr, on 03/24/2009, -0/+8I haven't seen one person who has thought this is a good idea, they must realize that.
- tonycomputerguy, on 03/24/2009, -0/+8That would rule, but I don't know if I could go back to watching such old terrible movies when RiffTrax makes fun of such new, terrible movies. Check out http://www.rifftrax.com everyone! Mike Crow and Tom are still alive!
And this PsFy ***** is unreal. I seriously thought it was a terrible early April fools joke. - manogamez, on 03/24/2009, -4/+12Seriously though, I doubt that Isaac Asiimov would be thrilled at either Sci-Fi OR Sy-Fy being classified in the same genre as his works.
I remember that an old english teacher of mine told me Scifi and science fiction (SF) are two VERY different things. - doctordbx, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7I don't know. It's March.
- tgc1, on 03/24/2009, -1/+8SyFy - Should You ***** Yourself?
- manogamez, on 03/24/2009, -3/+10SF is the old library nickname for science fiction. You know, those big building which have things called BOOKS in them?
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6syfy is going to be mainly Wrastlin' and "reality" tv shows. It's the wave of the future. If you don't currently enjoy programming like that, just hit yourself in the head with a hammer until you do. The "dumbering" down of America continues. RIP Sci Fi.
- bonk2k, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6I understand their decision to change it, but SyFy is terrible. They should make it an acronym or something that stands for something that has the word Sci-Fi in it.
- diggydougie, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6I think that SF would be a good new name. Kind of like KFC. They can claim that the letters don't stand for anything in particular while still carrying on the tradition. If they only would.
- fotoman607, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6It sounds like a disease that would make my junk all itchy.
- diggydougie, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6The re-runs will continue for decades.
- wracker92, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5Why not launch a second channel, call it the "EssEff Channel" and fill it with harder edged science fiction shows.
- bincoder, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5Phil in the Box would have been a better choice than SyFy.
And what is with that show that has a bunch of silly teenagers running around old 'haunted' places screaming like little gurls? I'm into ghost stories and all that but add some reality to the reality shows please. Capture ghost, set ghost on fire, then I will be impressed. - flossdaily, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5And how the hell did SciFi not pick up Firefly?!
- kurttrail, on 03/24/2009, -1/+6Universal can't trademark the name SciFi, because it is a genre of fiction, a generic term, so they won't be going back.
But it's no big deal. They hardly show Science Fiction anymore. It should be called the Supernatural Channel. - Heywoodj, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5Ahh but look at all the free publicity the name change got them.
It doesn't matter.Without BSG they will never be able to polish the stink off this turd of a network no matter what they call it. - TheWriteGuy, on 03/24/2009, -4/+9SyFylis Network
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4I dont understand why they changed it. It wont make people want to watch House of the Dead or Resident Evil anymore.
- flossdaily, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4But, but... The Office...
- blacklilyninja, on 03/24/2009, -1/+5... well syfy is just plain retarded. The corporate exec who thought of this is someone the satirists will mock for generations.
..or at least until another Bush is elected into office. - Chrysalii, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4well when you do something like that, you've already said "***** you" to your core audience. So I don't think they care about the negative blogs and the like
- adderx99, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4StyFy?
- rpgmakr, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4I didn't know that they were going to change the name to syfy until now. I thought that name was becoming a meme that mocked how some people wrote the name sci-fi. God I'm clueless.
PS: That name sucks. - keithnoir, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4Comedy Central to change its name to SuFi in honor of Dane Cook?
- firesights, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Could this really be a less popular name than when Nintendo re-named the Revolution to "Wii"? I doubt it. Nintendo made that work, so I'm convinced the name is less of a deal than people are making it out to be. If they continue to make random B-grade movies, they're doomed to failure anyway, no matter if the network is SyFy or Sci-Fi. If they put out good shows, they will... prosper.
