- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -4/+324Yeah, lets call it SyFy, that way we can put even more non-science fiction entertainment on it. That way, it wont look so odd or ironic when they turn Friday nights into 2 hour blocks of Deal or No Deal.
- JasonCox, on 07/07/2009, -2/+308SciFi started to lose me when they started to air wrestling. Seriously what were they smoking that day?
- mejf2loy, on 07/07/2009, -5/+238I'm gonna go get some pizza at "The Hut".
- JoeParanoid, on 07/07/2009, -2/+211It's when they abandon their programming for televangelists and Tyra Banks that will really piss everyone off.
- Threlly1, on 07/07/2009, -7/+194cynts
- Hetman, on 07/07/2009, -0/+187No *****. G4tv I am looking at you also. How come every cable channel that starts to get big at all suddenly becomes a generic spike tv.
- copypastry, on 07/07/2009, -2/+156Set phasers to fail.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+133Mark my words they're going to carry re-runs of survivor and cribs within 6 months.
- thejackyl, on 07/07/2009, -0/+132"We're catching up to where our programming mix is"
Makes sense. Their programming continually gets dumber so their name should get dumber too. - stwobie, on 07/07/2009, -5/+135Actually, it should be "Nerds Pyssed"
- punkcat, on 07/07/2009, -0/+104g4tv? you mean the Cops channel?
- BigLou, on 07/07/2009, -2/+95They should pick up Firefly!
- jcsoc, on 07/07/2009, -1/+93is that short for SyFylis?
- WoWii, on 07/07/2009, -4/+94SciFi became dead2me after the season finale of BSG.
- SaladCactusKing, on 07/07/2009, -1/+90Just call it the "Battlestar Galactica/Stargate Rerun + Random Monster Animal Movies Channel"
- B1665r, on 07/07/2009, -3/+91We will neverforget what you did to Farscape, and you will never be forgiven. I don't care how many times you change your name, I will never watch you again.
- MonstersAGoGo, on 07/07/2009, -6/+91It's all about the copyright. They can't copyright the word SciFi. But they can copyright SyFy.
- Emera, on 07/07/2009, -9/+93The Sci Fi channel has been trying to reinvent itself for years. I'll admit when I first heard about the proposed name change it pissed me off to think that they were destroying a brand I'd fallen in love with, for such a stupid name. But I'm over it. If it gets them to commit to their programming I'm all for it. Branding has always been arbitrary in this country, what matters is content.
Stargate Universe is all I care about at this point. - h0ser, on 07/07/2009, -5/+86as soon as you said stargate my nipples became hard.
- TCSavant, on 07/07/2009, -2/+82They already show wrastling.
Bring back MST3K. - jjvors, on 07/07/2009, -1/+75To quote Spock, "A difference with no difference is no difference"
To quote myself, "SyFy: just like SciFi only misspelled."
In brief, stupid. - macromorgan, on 07/07/2009, -7/+78Q: Why did you rename it "SyFy"
A: ****** marketing excuse*
Real Q: WTF?
Real A: "Sci-Fi" couldn't be trademarked, but "SyFy" can. - Eupatorus, on 07/07/2009, -1/+64Actually you can't copyright the word SyFy. You can, however, trademark it.
The more you know..... - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -2/+59rasslin
- Eupatorus, on 07/07/2009, -0/+56Nic Cage's hair.
- Firespray1138, on 07/07/2009, -1/+54***** G4.
- skittixch, on 07/07/2009, -0/+49Don't forget to pick up an ice cold Mtn Dew while you're there!
- evanft, on 07/07/2009, -2/+50I thought SF went off the air after the BSG finale. I know I have no reason to ever watch it again.
- crossmr, on 07/08/2009, -0/+47I miss techtv...
- cryonix, on 07/07/2009, -0/+44What? there is other content beside endless marathons of infomercials?
- STPZ, on 07/07/2009, -5/+48Syence Fail
- brenbart, on 07/07/2009, -2/+44<snort> Let's not forget the idiotic professional wrestling and the "reality" shows about investigating ghosts.
I think they should have changed their name to Skifee.
All in all I'm sort of glad about the name change. The channel was really bringing down SF's rep. - dbz253, on 07/07/2009, -0/+41it's all part of the plan
they are trying to kill it like they did with tech tv. eventually it will merge with some semi related ***** and then the name will be dropped completely - isunktheship, on 07/07/2009, -1/+41dykes oh wait
- Hetman, on 07/07/2009, -3/+42I like Eureka. How come they cannot just buy the rights to firefly. It saddens me. I would also like it if they would start to replay lexx.
- brenbart, on 07/07/2009, -0/+39Oh crap... You're probably right. That's so sad...
- nace33, on 07/07/2009, -6/+45Gotta have more Stargate!
- Orsenfelt, on 07/07/2009, -2/+40To be fair, it is fiction.. so it's halfway alright for the channel.
- blueaura, on 07/07/2009, -0/+37Sometimes I wonder what marketing people are smoking, and how I can get some for myself.
"We're catching up to where our programming mix is" -- Huh? Changing to a nonsense made-up word that is pronounced exactly the same as your old name. . . is catching up to what, exactly? Do they have a show called "StahrTreck" or "Babble-OnFyv" I'm not aware of? - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -4/+41I'm fine with the new name, but if they stop doing the Twilight Zone marathons on holidays I will rage.
- jsuther, on 07/07/2009, -2/+38Hurray for the new syphilis channel, Now I can watch syphilis 24/7
- goobly, on 07/07/2009, -1/+36Last night on "SyFy" they were showing National Treasure. What the *****, there is no element of science fiction in the movie whatsoever.
- Thunderballs, on 07/07/2009, -0/+35So sad. I never thought I'd see this from the channel that gave us original movies like Boa vs. Python, Death Bed: The Bed That Eats, Komodo vs. Cobra, S.S. Doomtrooper, and Ice Spiders 2.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Sci_Fi_Chann ... - kealper, on 07/07/2009, -3/+38Pizza the Hut!?
- SirBruce, on 07/07/2009, -0/+34The real reason is that you can't trademark SciFi but you can trademark Syfy. They also had a desire to refresh the brand. But it's still a horribly stupid idea.
- cryonix, on 07/07/2009, -0/+34correction: its Stargayte now
hmm... that lead to an inconvenient pun - bbrigg1, on 07/07/2009, -2/+34All I've ever seen on that channel is Lake Placid or Lake Placid 2.
- Moralogic, on 07/07/2009, -0/+32Agreed, next apple will change it's name to i.
- pyromaster114, on 07/07/2009, -1/+32SciFi has been destroying itself for years, it's just been degrading itself steadily.
The last good show that was on there was like StarGate... I actually haven't found anything on the past 6 days except Ghost Hunters... which sucks major dick. -
