- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34So we can watch SNL when its even Worse, and even more Amateurish?
Rock on!... oh wait... - andydumi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I watch Studio 60 for partly the same reasons.
- tooslickvan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Okay, we get it; SNL is hasn't been good for at least a decade. But the idea is somewhat novel and if it's successful then maybe tapings for shows that don't suck will be webcasted also.
- BobbyShaftoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I'm with you tooslickvan. I'll tune in for the first few rehearsals for sure.
Not because I'm a big fan of SNL these days, but because behind-the-scenes stuff can be cool in its own way, and I'm ALL FOR encouraging webcasting anything and everything under the mother-lovin' sun. - viff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11What I'd really like to watch is the writing sessions... I'd really like to find out how bad an idea has to be to not make it to the show, when all they show is total crap!!!
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12How else are they gonna generate interest in a show that hasn't been funny in a decade.
- CapnMarrrrk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12So let me get this straight.
Saturday Night Live
Studio 60 a show about a Saturday Night Live
30 Rock, another show about Saturday Night Live
Webcast Saturday Night Live Rehersals
All according to the article.
I think someone REALLY needs a visit from the Idea Fairy, and a serious kick in the ass. - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What you would find is some hilarious ***** that gets killed on the table because of censoring. Any sketch which is a parody of something political gets greenlighted because some bozo thinks thats what Americans are interested in at the moment. Those are the parts I fast forward though when I watch Tivo'd SNL on Sunday mornings.
- ringworm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6All of these comments about how SNL is not funny anymore and should be killed off are very shortsighted. SNL has ebbed and flowed throughout it's entire history. Just because its not funny now doesn't mean the next Bill Murray, Mike Myers, or Will Ferrel won't join the cast tomorrow.
That being said, SNL does indeed suck at the moment. I think it's telling that I find the prospect of watching the rehearsals about 100 times more appealing than the actual broadcast. - minox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They should have done this a few years ago. Then you could have seen twice as much of Jimmy Fallon breaking character.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I like how the shows about SNL (more or less) are much funnier and more entertaining. SNL is living in its own shadow and the history of 30+ years and I can understand how difficult it must be to write for it.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As far as I'm concerned, if it's good entertainment, then it's good for everybody. If this turns out to be a real stinker for NBC, they'll just pull it and move on. Otherwise, i'd say it's quite innovative.
Besides, all I want to know is: When is a Taco Town opening up in *my* neighborhood?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVx2JKuZp04 - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6not since KOF 2002 anyways.....
- ArmyOfFun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm with UGM2099. A PVR makes SNL so much more enjoyable.
A big problem SNL has (and always had) was they've got 90 minutes to fill, so they often resort to repeating a joke just to fill time. With a PVR, you see the joke the one (maybe two) times it might been funny and then you fast forward through the rest. Not to mention the sketches that just outright suck. - cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'll agree that this hasn't been their best season, but did you get a look at that Alec Baldwin episode a couple of weeks back? Easily one of the top ten best shows in SNL's existence.
It still has it's moments.
They do dress rehearsals earlier on Saturday, not Fridays. Airing the dress rehearsals on the internet before the show wouldn't be a great idea as you'd give people little reason to check out the live network show. Taping the dress rehearsals and airing them AFTER the show could be very interesting to watch though. - misterblommer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this could be very interesting, I'd love to see how people act when the "real" camera is off
- vcleniuk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If it's done right, it might bring in TV viewers.
OTOH, if the rehearsals stink, viewers won't tune in on SN. - Itazura, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6SNL is about as amazing as Mad TV, it's time to kill them off and let evolution do its job.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No, it was good up until 1997, when Farly died.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6If SNL were still relevant, this would be great news. Instead, it just smells of a desperate attempt to revive interest in a long-dead show.
SNL died in 1993, it just hasn't had its feeding tube removed yet. - Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was in NYC for the weekend and I actually went to the Baldwin dress rehearsal and it was hilarious... I couldn't really understand why people said the show sucked now... maybe I just caught a good episode, or maybe it was because it was the dress rehearsal.. who knows.
The dress rehearsal on saturday is pretty much just the same show with 30 more min of stuff, I hope this article was right and it meant friday rehearsal, because that's when the screw up are. - crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5BLASPHEMY!!
More cowbell! - carniv0re, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. While I don't care for SNL, for some reason I love watching outtakes and the like. I often find those the funniest part of movies, even comedies.
- amzran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think it's an awesome idea. Hope to see it tried out.
- scottykempf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ah, if only we could go back and watch SNL when it was funny. Oh, wait, we can:
http://www.amazon.com/Saturday-Night-Live-Complete-Season/dp/B000JLQPYK/sr=8-1/qid=1164918603/ref=pd_bbs_1/105-5758128-8079602?ie=UTF8&s=dvd - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mass media comedy is always lame. I don't really think SNL is any better or worse than Jay Leno, MadTV, etc. It's all pretty damn terrible to me.
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only thing worth watching on SNL is what Andy Samberg does which is written by him and his fellow pals from The Lonely Island ( http://www.thelonelyisland.com/ ) and even that isn't always great. I have a feeling they get hassled by censors.
- MemoryDump, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2at least the re-runs are still good.. might not be live.. but at least it was funnier.. it's too bad really.. SNL used to be a must-watch on Saturdays many many years ago..
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I can see your point there - but I'm afraid that as soon as Molly Shannon showed up, it was over for me.
- joeyjojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd argue the reherseals would be more entertaining than the real thing.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe they can apply the digg model and we dig up or dig down skits? But I imagine we'd just dig everything down anyways.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sweeeeeeet... Now we can watch as everyone drinks and gets plastered while rehersing for the real show.
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good...does that mean they'll stop the nine promos they do for SNL during Studio 60? (which, btw, is probably where they stole this idea from)
- JohnnyZito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is Lorene Michaels trying to get us to do his work for him.
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1C-SPAN is funnier than SNL.
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If that happens, then we will find out how lame Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip really is because I doubt the SNL cast goes through the same drama every performance.
- paku, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Entertainment-wise it will be somewhere between a SNL skit and a gas station camera.
- fortressgame, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1someone famously said that watching snl was like watching old men die. can't really disagree. that said this could be somewhat interesting unlike thew show itself.
- Fruvous, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3WTF? Are this people smoking the Bad Crack? If outsiders can see it, guess what, it's not a rehearsal any more, it's a performance. Did they ask the "talent" about this? Did they ask the actors and actresses if they really felt like having the whole Internet watch them mess up over and over again? This is an insanely bad idea from people who, let's face it, have been working hard to produce some of the worst ideas out there.
I picture a nightmarish scenario something like this :
Clueless hack A : "Gosh, I just don't get it. These skits always seem so funny in rehearsal, and yet everybody hates them when they air. "
Clueless hack B : "Hey, maybe that's the problem! Something very bad must happen between rehearsal and air time!"
Clueless hack A : "My god, you're right! It's the only possible explanation, because obviously, we're incredibly funny and talented people, so it can't possibly be our fault in any way. It must be that something happens between rehearsal and air!
Clueless hack B : "We should let people watch the rehearsals, and then everybody would know what geniuses we are!"
Clueless hack A : "Brilliant! But wait, we'll never get the budget to do that on air. Every time I ask for more money, people get all weird and mad for some reason. "
Clueless hack B : "Really? Me too. Weird. Anyhow, we can just put it on that Internet thing that's so trendy with the kids these days.
Clueless hack A : "Brilliant! Gosh, we're so clever and talented. "
Clueless hack B : "I know. Genius is never appreciated in its own time. "
Clueless hack A : "But wait, what if the talent objects?"
Clueless hack B : "We have talent?"
(They both laugh. )
Clueless hack A : "Sometimes we're so funny, it hurts. OK then, wise guy, what if those actors and actresses who screw up our perfect scripts object?"
Clueless hack B : "Oh, they won't object. They still think being on this show is the opportunity of a lifetime. They're all still dreaming of being the next Will Farrel or Michael Myers, when they're be lucky to be the next Horatio Sanz!"
(They both share another long, hearty laugh. )
Clueless hack A : "OK, I'll call up tech support and get them on this. "
(From out of nowhere, a cow drops on both of them. The "end". )
(check out more funniness at www.phunni.com/oiswydt ) - lazyron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I dugg you back up man. I've never been a Will Ferrell fan either.
Chevy Chase is and will always be the king of "big guy" physical comedy. - Zidul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sweet, one step closer to SNL's death.
these bottom of the barrel gimmicks are terrible.
but i think the best is yet to come, when they start pullin the ***** from under the barrel itself.
does 'end with class' mean anything? you had your time, now GTFO, you're old. as one of the previous comments said,
ITS LIKE WATCHING AN OLD MAN DIE! - haggie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0SNL rehearsals on YouTube would make the videos of morons lip syncing look like a laugh riot by comparison...
- Conwaysb0718, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4MadTV has actually grown on me. I didnt care for it at first, but nowadays I find it much funnier than SNL.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Ever since Will Farrell quit SNL, it's not too bad.
- jmuchrisf, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Mad TV is actually funny though. (my wife hates it, but I love it on Comedy Central)
- CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4I didn't think it was possible, but it seems they found a way to make their ratings even lower!?
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1heh....I guess this is their piss poor attempt to get people into SNL again......good luck
excuse my cynicality...but come on...SNK hasn't been good in a long ass time.... - noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5You can tell they're desperate if they're looking to ***** to make their jokes funny.
