- Asianwaste, on 05/05/2008, -0/+13What's funny is that no more than a few minutes of running into this article I was looking at some Iron Man things on Youtube and found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Wn4iYoMcAA&feature ...
- PHiZ187, on 05/05/2008, -1/+13I am absolutely terrified that someone has this level of knowledge about cartoons from 1968.
- lunarworks, on 05/05/2008, -1/+11It's interesting how American Saturday morning cartoons retained basically the same aesthetic all the way through until the end of the '80s. (Especially since old cartoons were regularly aired by non-network stations.)
Ren & Stimpy, and the flood of Nickelodeon cartoons, changed things forever. Then came the new wave of anime. Saturday mornings themselves were killed-off by 24 hour kids, youth, and animation cable channels.
Man, I miss those days. Being a kid in the '80s was completely different than the way things are now. - chrisbosh123, on 05/05/2008, -2/+11now saturday mornings are filled with political news ='[
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -2/+10I haven't thought of Jughead in years, thanks for the walk down memory lane.
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -1/+8This is the stuff I am surrounded with at work. Yesterday we celebrated Free Comic Book Day by turning our museum into an Archie styled soda shop. Basically I get paid to talk about old comics and tv shows.
- Khast, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Hold on, need to get my pajamas on, bunny slippers, and most importantly, the secret decoder ring!!!
- Samsong, on 05/05/2008, -1/+6God just STFU already these comments make me want to (play GTA 4 and) kill hookers.
- PHiZ187, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Wow.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfWPDzvWNds - cliffzdude, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Wrong decade...
- koonchu, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Saturday morning cartoons was all that prevented us from this downward spiral.
- limes4all, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Where can I apply?
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4i love old cartoons.
- PHiZ187, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4I'm actually kinda impressed. It looks like they put just a smidge more effort into the animation on this one compared to your average cartoon fare. I don't know if that extends to the episodes, or if they just put the extra effort into the intro...
- notoneofus, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4You're not complaining, are you?
- PopcornDave, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Wrong year, Roger Ramjet came out in 1965.

- davidwasman, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Wow...I was alive for all of these...
inb4 Old guy on DIGG!!!! - VinceNoir, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3So true with one exception. Being a kid of any decade is so different from the way things are now. My wife and I were actually talking about this last night. She made a comment about how we were lucky to be teenagers in the 1980s because of things like punk/new wave music and related things. It occurred to me, that I've heard some of my Baby Boomer friends say the same things about the years they were teens/young adults (Between roughly age 12 and age 21). Obviously, for them it's a different decade.
So it strikes me that it has less to do with the decade that one experiences at different phases in their lives, an more to do with an individual's state of mind and their outlook on life at the time. I'm sure there are kids now, who were teens in the early to mid 90s who fondly recollect the culture of that decade as being sort of a pinnacle. And once they reach their 40s or 50s, they'll look back at that time as being somewhat special for a variety of reasons.
When I think of my childhood (the mid to late 70s) A lot of my experiences are echoes of what this article talks about, combined with the early 80s when things became a bit more streamlined in terms of production. Having never gotten hooked on the Cartoon Network, to me, Saturday morning still feels like the right day/time for cartoons. To my three year old, it's just a day daddy doesn't go to work and can play all the time (She doesn't like TV because she never sees me or my wife watching it and thinks we're patronizing her if we suggest she watch a little PBS Sprout. Heh... good for her).
Sadly, as creative as some of the Cartoon Network's original programs can be, and as much nostalgic fare is available on Boomerang, it has killed Saturday mornings (or weekday afternoons for re-runs). Back when you had limited choices for cartoons, they were special for those limited times you could watch them. Today, it's like the sweets trolley is in the room every minute of the day, and everyone is still gorging even though they're no longer truly interested. - tones1, on 05/05/2008, -1/+4Because this story wasn't submitted by a virgin.
- artgod, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3I'm with ya.
- ostracize, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3I think about Betty and Veronica every day!
- PHiZ187, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Has anything that has happened in the past 4 days NOT made you want to play GTA4, kill hookers?
- Emused, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3Not one reference to Roger Ramjet, I am aghast!
- notoneofus, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Digg?

- astrotrain, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2The Banana Splits: "Hold the bus!"
- quickcomment, on 05/05/2008, -2/+4The sad thing about watching these clips is that after half a dozen years of Adult Swim I keep expecting these cartoons to take a surreal and disturbing turn.
- coachace, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3Danger Island! "Uh oh, Chongo!"
- VinceNoir, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Even though it can feel like it on the web sometimes, you're not the only one. Gen-X and Gen-Y, embrace your age.
- antdude, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Not on CW/WB and FOX..
- Asianwaste, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Yea it's too bad this show didn't become good until it's 2nd season when they opted for this intro. It got actually pretty dang good when you compare it to its first season... and that intro was by far the best.
- rjc1187, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Hannah Barbara did EVERYTHING for like 40 years. They had a monopoly on cartoons.
- Armitage2k, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Electra Woman and Dyna Girl....
http://www.vixensofvirtuevixensofvice.com/
check it out.. 70's vibe... - astrotrain, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Who can forget the animation style of Filmation? The reuse of stock footage to keep the cost down, the bumble gum sounds of the songs during the Archies (The Archie Giant Jukebox!) and The Groovie Goolies!
History, the song "Chick-a-Boom" by Daddy Dewdrop originated from the Groovie Goolies. There is a more "tone down" version on the Groovie Goolies (Episode #12) by the Headstones. - bitbytebit, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I recently bought some frankenberry for nostalgia .. wow that cereal really sucks . not like I remember it at all.
- kentdoggydog, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Oh, why must I love Brady Kid's songs so much? I'm gonna keep on keep on keep on dancing all through the night!
- futureisours, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I'm sorry, but I still love Dyna Girl.
- VinceNoir, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Bah! I made a mistake:
"I'm sure there are kids now, who were teens in the early to mid 90s who fondly recollect the culture of that decade as being sort of a pinnacle".
Here's the correction:
"I'm sure there are young adults now, who were teens in the early to mid 90s who fondly recollect the culture of that decade as being sort of a pinnacle". - cliffzdude, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2One word most digg fans don't know; sleestacks...
- CaviMike, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Dugg for The Archies alone. I never would have remembered that show if I didn't see this.
- astrotrain, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Filmation came in and gave them a good run for their money, with the Archies, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, and of course The Groovie Goolies ("I needed that!"). Earlier then that you had Harvey Toons (Casper, Baby Huey, etc). And then Terry Toons (where Ralph Bakshi started with his Mighty Heroes).
So yes, HB had a good chunk of the toon market, but not all of it.
"Casper the friendly ghost, the friendliest ghost you'll know....." - astrotrain, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Right decade.... Decoder Ring was for Captain Midnight. Not to mention all the other gadgets you got when buying cereal at the time. Qwisp....Crazy Cow.... Frankenberry.... oh yeah!
- Emused, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1What can I say "man", the 60's has been unkind to this mind.Just a blurrrrr,. Nothing but peace, love and Tonka trucks.
- MrCobaltBlue, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1What no Yugioh?!
- inactive, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Not at all

- astrotrain, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Blah... not old school enough for me... give me the 60's and the 70's for my favorite cartoons, with a heavy dash of Tex Avery on top of the heap... now your talking about REAL cartoons!
- astrotrain, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Filmation + The Brady Kids = Trippy 70s Saturday Morning Sunshiny Day!
