- KnightMareInc, on 04/23/2009, -0/+18I love PBS!
- modelcadet, on 04/23/2009, -2/+10Oh my god this is awesome. I work the graveyard shift at a convenience store while going to school. I can't really read at my job, so I listen to a boatload of lectures: google tech talks, fora.tv, it conversations, etc. Bookmarked! [and dugg]
- protogenxl, on 04/23/2009, -0/+8Actual Site
http://www.pbs.org/video
The site has Nova episodes not on hulu but is missing Nature and my favorite episode "Condition Black" - paradisetonight, on 04/23/2009, -5/+11This is great but to be honest, this should have been done a long time ago! PBS relys on donations so they should chose the cheapest way to deliever their content. Its a good step but tell me when ALL their content is online on one site.
- questro, on 04/23/2009, -1/+7I am grateful that they chose a technology that is GNU/Linux friendly. While Flash is still proprietary, it is a much better solution than Mono/Silverlight at least for me. The PBS video sight is working great from my Ubuntu desktop. I hope one day they will also consider Ogg/Theora.
- RudeTurnip, on 04/23/2009, -0/+6PBS also has a lot of full-length programming on Hulu now. Combined with PlayOn to stream Hulu to my Xbox 360, this completes my televisual needs. I damn near soiled myself from excitement when I saw all of Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" programs on there.
- evilsin, on 04/23/2009, -1/+6I <3 PBS!!!
- antoniuk, on 04/23/2009, -0/+5Public Broadcasting Service. It's an American thing.
- lmushl, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4Once Bill Nye is available I'm sold
- LoudMusic, on 04/23/2009, -1/+4Woohoo! Looking forward to a larger selection.
YAY PBS! - antoniuk, on 04/23/2009, -1/+4Let's hope they have Nova and Nature on there
Edit... Looks like they do :) - Jektal, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3Isn't Firefox 3.5 supposed to support OGG video natively? If so, it will be interesting to see who adopts it...
- antoniuk, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3Actually no...
From PBS' own site:
"This Web site, provided by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), is home to more than 1000 television show companion sites"
As well as wikipedia for your citation pleasure:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PBS - homercles337, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3PBS has had many online episodes for years. Frontline comes to mind.
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3PBS is one of the best television services. I can't wait to check out all of that content. For "Viewers Like Me"!!

- Nodaki, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2I have not heard of PlayOn...researching thanks for the tip.
I completely pulled the plug on cable after the elections, and have been missing some stuff, my wife is pissed about not getting to watch TopChef anymore. - lroche, on 04/23/2009, -1/+3PBS has some really quality shows but usually I end up missing some I really wanted to see. They should have done this years ago.
- Foskey, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2This will be nice when they actually have some decent programs on to take advantage of.
- Bondheli, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2norm abram says joint alot
- ivan423, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2PBS kicks ass. I like Nova, Independent Lens, and Frontline.
- Snakedal337, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2tvrss.tv + a computer or streaming device hooked up to the TV.
you wife will love you again - protogenxl, on 04/24/2009, -0/+2NCIS has a really cute goth chick.
- Burrito, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2Birdturglar, your profile says you're 33 and yet, you seem to just run around Digg making pointless, juvenile comments. Get a life.
- YoctoYotta, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2You managed to live to 33?
- Jonjonr6, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2Where's Wishbone?!

- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -1/+2My dad made me watch the entire thing on VHS tapes as a kid. I wanted to die.
- Nodaki, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Will that mean I can watch Super Why! and the Super Readers anytime?
OMG...OMG...OMG!!!
Damnit...it isn't on there. - mikedaul, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1I think a lot of the popular shows on PBS are produced (meaning owned) by non-PBS entities, so PBS would need to work out some kind of licensing/distribution deal to broadcast the shows on their site. For example, This Old House has it's own production company and New Yankee Workshop is produced by WBGH in Boston. So perhaps the shows that they do have online are the first batch that they could get the distribution deals worked out for? It also seems like the online shows have exclusive sponsors (liberty mutual, etc) - I wonder if that makes any difference?
- mikejonz, on 04/23/2009, -1/+2Great idea but as previously stated...all the content is unavailable, an idea of when it will be online would be nice. Does this mean the I'll have access to 24hrs of sesame street..that would be awesome, my kids would love that..can never have enough ELMO :)
- bcassner, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Finally a spot to watch the episodes of Antique Roadshow and Nova. Am I showing my age or am I just lame for loving PBS!
- Snakedal337, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1These comments make me laugh, I remember when fellow students would bitch and moan about watching Nova in highschool.
On digg, the community is stoked to stream it to their computer.
You guys really are my second home :-) - crsnglb, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Yay! They have Nature!
I'm currently a full time student but once I start working I really want to donate to PBS, it's what I watch most. - trypto, on 04/24/2009, -0/+1The video is low resolution and wont even scale with the rest of the page when zooming with FF or IE8. So we're left with small video on a large monitor or grainy full-screen video. Can't these developers make a flash video player that allows zooming of the content to arbitrary sizes?
- oceandead, on 04/24/2009, -0/+1PBS has so much excellent, extremely high-quality programming. It is amazing that many people don't seem to realize just how much of this remarkable programming they broadcast (and put online). Not to say there are no tv shows I enjoy (I do like Mythbusters, Family Guy and Lost) but I really do not know how people can watch shows like CSI, NCIS, L&O, etc., when there is so much great programming on PBS. Thankfully, these shows are now being brought to one centralized site where it will be easier to find and watch.
Please remember to donate to PBS if you love their shows.
Seriously!
For those of you who haven't watched some of these shows, here are some links to tons of programs available online for you to check out.

- 2Bnor2B, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1The demise of traditional air and cable broadcasts continues.
With Netflix, Hulu, Torrents and others; the old transmission based media infrastructure is collapsing.
Those who are smart, will move on to direct distribution; like PBS, BBC, and Southpark Studios.
Cable for years has lobbied against "À la carte" distribution, stating that it can not be done profitably and users must pay for packages and bundles of stations that they do not need. Now it does not mater.
I have been without cable for 2 years and have gotten every show I needed through the internet. - rkiga, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1There are also a lot of videos that have been on the normal PBS site for years now, which were the lead up to the new site. So if you run out of videos, go check the old site, just don't expect HD.

- petitejue, on 05/06/2009, -0/+0You can view Wishbone at pbskidsgo.org/video. PBS KIDS has their own video player separate from the main video one shown on the pbs.org Web site. Enjoy. There aren't any full episodes, but you can watch some clips.
- petitejue, on 05/06/2009, -0/+0Your daughter can watch PBS KIDS shows at http://pbskidsgo.org/video (Separate from the main PBS player)
It's the GO! brand, which is skewed towards older kids 6-8. But there are a few pre-K shows up on the player, like Martha Speaks and Between the Lions. -
