- Oomsoup, on 12/03/2007, -2/+47We've been without T.V. in our house for almost 3 years now and we love it! We don't watch SO many shows that we need all those channels so we just used iTunes and supported the shows we loved that way. (Lost, House, Dexter, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica and the like) Now that NBC pulled out of iTunes though... It's sad that we can't support them anymore. We still see them though. :)
- lawngnomes4pres, on 12/03/2007, -2/+30i miss the office...
- jsdratm, on 12/03/2007, -0/+27I stopped watching TV in high school and haven't looked back (5 years later). Now I just use Netflix to see movies and the few good TV shows. Cable is ridiculous. You pay a monthly fee and still spend half the time watching ads.
- MindTrigger, on 12/03/2007, -1/+24I can honestly say that this strike has not affected my life one little bit. TV sucks.
- Cannon13, on 12/03/2007, -3/+24No. No it doesn't relate to the story. Take your spam elsewhere, sir.
- jt18, on 12/03/2007, -4/+19TV ⊂ Online. Logically, we can conclude:
Online > TV, - ConfusedONE, on 12/03/2007, -0/+15Hate to burst your bubble, but Heroes goes on break after the next episode (the end of volume 2) and Lost may be stalled because they might not finish this season's episodes.
- greenlight2001, on 12/03/2007, -4/+18I like Ron Paul, I really do, in fact I happen to be wearing my Ron Paul t-shirt right now (shear chance), I support him, I give to his campaign... but I'm really sick and tired of all the people on digg who find it necessary to work him into EVERY thread and story. You make us all look like idiots. Go use your time putting up RP yard signs, or handing out slim jims. Just stop making all RP supports look like ignorant spammers/fanboys on digg. Put your energy elsewhere, where it will do more good for RP than here on digg.
- jmpeagle, on 12/03/2007, -1/+15seriously? WTF is wrong with you? What does that have to do with this article? I am a fan of Core convergence in General Equilibrium theory in Economics and people are more likely to run into that on the internet than on TV but that doesn't make it relevant.
- h3smith, on 12/03/2007, -1/+12Less people watching TV? Maybe America will finally wake up and stop being mad stupid.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+12I think PBS and the occasional Discovery Channel special are all I watch on television. There's nothing good on cable.
- TomK88, on 12/03/2007, -0/+10This post is ridiculous. Writers are trying to negotiate a contract more in tune with what other Hollywood professionals are getting (actors, directors, etc.) yet this makes them greedy? I guess once people have a nice home or whatever, they should stop being "greedy" and just accept whatever salary their boss wants to give them. I mean, it's not like those bosses aren't making BILLIONS of dollars from the handy work of writers.
- DarkTranquility, on 12/03/2007, -2/+11The Office really needs to come back to television...its so goddamn good.
- Devotia, on 12/03/2007, -0/+9Could you prove that with a logical matrix please?
- Chirp08, on 12/03/2007, -4/+13Get ready for lawsuits, cause when thsi is finally over and the movie industry is doing twice as bad as it was before, the only plausible answer is: piracy. NOT ***** movies, NOT advertisements during movies, NOT any ***** thing they are doing, its us, we are clearly not doing OUR job, which is to give them money for crap.
- manfrin, on 12/03/2007, -1/+9The subset {TV} is contained within the Superset of Online = {{TV} ...}.
The people digging you down have no idea what you mean. - AceLy, on 12/03/2007, -0/+8I don't watch TV, but I waste my time on Digg.
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/03/2007, -6/+14My bookshelf is my TV set.
My books are my channels.
My book mark is my TiVo.
Also, no commercials. - Makaveli604, on 12/03/2007, -4/+11Torrents are especially good for the West Coast.
It's pretty nice to have an HD copy of a TV show on your computer (without ads ofc) 1.5h before it even shows up on TV. - HappyScrappy, on 12/03/2007, -0/+7You're caught up in stupid sematics. If you're watching TV shows, you have TV in your house, even if you don't have a box called a TV.
People get caught up in this stupid "kill your TV" thing, when the real solution is to not watch crap. - manfrin, on 12/03/2007, -1/+7If the writers are Greedy, then what does that make the studios?
You are an idiot. - wattersm, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5TVlinks is dead, surfthechannel.com is great though.
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5But how will I play my PS2
- Enfecktion, on 12/03/2007, -2/+7Adult swim and The office are the only reason i watch TV anyways.
Being able to watch those online without commercials have made TV effectively obsolete. TV has been terrible since "flavor of love" took over anyways. - nephari, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4...the internet?
- reed311, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5They have a one track mind. Everything must somehow relate to Ron Paul. When that guy took those hostages at Clinton's place, they were more concerned with if it would be a Ron Paul supporter, rather than the safety of the hostages.
But, yeah, everyone else are the sheep. - nephari, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4Or everyone on the internet talks about how amazing a show is, and you check it out? You could also read forums or reviews or check for new shows produced by the same people who make shows you already like. There's a whole lot more you can do to find new shows without wasting your time on random promo clips.
- Chompy, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5Holy *****, a rational Ron Paul supporter on the internet? I thought you guys were mythical.
- AceLy, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4Then TV is the empty set.
- lordtyros, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4Do you get any lag? I haven't bothered hooking up my wii to the computer because I heard it was up to a second of lag.
- wentwj, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5Or the Blu-Ray in the case of Lost
- wentwj, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4Basically... they get no money for online distribution of their material, especially streamed. So for shows like Lost and Heroes that don't play repeats much, fans catch up by watching episodes online, the studios then make money by putting up ads, and the writers make nothing because it's deemed a "promo".
- MikeFallopian, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5I have some bad news for you...
- manfrin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3If Online is zero, and since TV ⊂ Online, that means that TV = {} and Online ={{0}{}}.
- p0ss, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3My vista laptop came with a remote and a tv card, I can watch HD digital tele anywhere I go. my wii plugs strait in, in fact I can even use my wii remote instead of the normal remote. add a projector and bam, hugescreen HD digital tele anywhere.
- trogdor282, on 12/03/2007, -1/+4Unless online = 0
- cnot3, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3Curse you, discrete math!
- engwar, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3Turner Classic Movies.
- AssProphet, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3You're so wrong.
This is the future for Television. Audiences are increasingly going to the web for their shows and eventually (if not already) the ratings systems will show a dip because of it. Traditional over the air television will not have the same value to advertisers and the shows will generate less money through the traditional "over-the-air" method. This is the only method through which the writers are being paid right now. As efforts continue to build to strengthen the web presence for television shows, the writers will be loosing more and more of their revenue.
Many people watch shows through iTunes and other similar services, but the writers are not being paid residuals for that or other online options because the studios are calling them "promotionals," as if they think that the shows are just there on the web to get people to watch them on the TV. This is a bunch of corporate lawyers trying to figure out how to get away with violating their contracts with the writers.
It's not about greed, it's about working for a company that treats your fairly, and it's about making sure that they aren't left out of the future of television. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -3/+6Duuude, smash your television!
- yersoocrust, on 12/03/2007, -1/+4TV Links > TV.
- Darth_tater, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3the last i heard, they have already filmed the first 8 or so episodes of LOST. there is a good chance that LOST will start on time, but who knows what will happen when they no longer have taped episodes. hopefully the strike will have been solved by then
- Lane, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3and music is my hot hot sex?
- salmonmoose, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2Vista Media Center + Xbox360 moreso :)
- wentwj, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3If you hate Lost then don't watch it. I've watched since episode 1, and will gladly tune in for the last 48 episodes.
- juniorb, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2But I can't watch Dexter, Survivorman, or Naked Science with a simple antenna.
Anyone who says there's nothing worth watching on television belongs with the Luddites. More reasonable people are just asking for more control over what they watch and when they watch it. - AceLy, on 12/03/2007, -2/+4Grey's Anatomy sucks.
- cnot3, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3or just torrent them.
- fkr3, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3Where I'm from at least the term is "son" for guys his age....
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/03/2007, -2/+4Its a magic paste invented by alchemists that clean my teeth. My mother calls it witch craft but it helps me get chicks.
