- Nanite, on 10/12/2007, -26/+182I swear to god I'm gonna pistol whip the next guy that says the word 'fanboy'.
I mean damn... - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+143"What are you on, what gives you the strength? Jesus Christ? Or Pat Robertson's protein shake?"
- Atom, on 10/12/2007, -17/+147Im glad to see that Bill was a good sport about the whole thing. It was obvious that he wasnt taking himself as serious as he usually does. Great piece of work on both ends.
And btw if any of you guys think that Bill was yelling at him for serious, you really need to pay better attention. The entire thing was just a fun piece to promote both shows. - KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -39/+165Is O'Reilly racist or something? WTF is is problem with French people? Does he seriously being French makes someone anti-American/liberal. I know someone who is hardcore pro-bush who is French with an accent...
I really think he should watch what he says about an entire nationality. - stephenv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+128"You know what I hate about people who criticize you? They criticize what you say but they never give you credit for how loud you say it."
Best line of the whole interview. - michaelothomas, on 10/12/2007, -36/+160It's amazing to me how O'Reilly and company just don't "get it". I suppose they're more accustomed to catering to the over 65 crowd. Colbert was witty and over the top as usual. He took a few very comical jabs at O'Reilly, and all O'Reilly had to throw back at him was screaming absurdly about the pronunciation of his name?
Am I the only one that thinks O'Reilly is partially retarded after watching this? - cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -5/+86Have you guys ever heard of a straight guy? O'Reilly is a putz and all, but damn. He was purposely playing the straight man to Colbert's comedy.
Colbert is a riot and is extremely talented. O'Reilly is a talented guy who is a huge success doing what he does. Sure, he's a freaking tool but both are very good at what they do. O'Reilly can't even try to play in the comedic space where Colbert is a god. He knows it, and he played a great straight man. You guys have taken this ***** WAY too seriously. It's entertainment. This "argument" was less as real as the outcome of an WWF Wrestling match. - Nanite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+74I could hear some crew members laughing at Colbert's jokes. Now Let's see if Bill gets any laughs on the Colbert report. |D
- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -12/+74he's a nut but i think the whole french thing was his attempt to be funny. he's not very good at it
- spudlyo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+58
It was either scripted or Colbert is extremely fast on his feet. I was impressed by the lack of interruptions. Colbert talks very quickly and spit out easily 2X the verbiage of O'Reilly. It'll be interesting to see who does most of the talking on Colbert's show. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+52Can't wait to see O'Reilly on Colbert tonight!
- AlphaMack, on 09/26/2008, -1/+50Yeah, you could definitely hear the chuckling after Colbert referred to bears as "giant, marauding, godless killing machines." Even the production crew sees the irony between that and Billo being "Papa Bear."
- geekinhiding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47My favorite line was when Colbert talked about going for a younger demographic than O'Reilly; people in their 50's and 60's.
- whoostavet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42best line: "Jon Stewart, he's pinker than an Indian River grapefruit." Ha!
- Shadar, on 10/12/2007, -20/+61Fanboy?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38"You actually have to be stoned to understand Jon Stewart's show"
- kingvar, on 10/12/2007, -35/+69O'Reilly was gettin nervous..hence his yelling at Colbert despite Colbert not doing anything aggressive.
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33O'Reilly likely missed the double entendre in the word "doing" because entendre is rooted in French.
- Shadar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Agreed. This was the best jab in there because it was 100% factual. O'Reilly's demographics are amazing if you actually look them up. His average age is in the upper 70's if I remember correctly... Olberman's is in the mid 60's. I wonder what TDS's and CR's average viewer age is... 25?
In any case I am shocked the O'Reilly let Colbert come on and make as many jabs as he did, to me O'Reilly looked like a fool who couldn't keep up and didn't know what Colbert was even all about. I will bet you money that Colbert analyzes more O'Reilly show footage in a week than O'Reilly analyzes of CR in the whole last year. - JoCliMe, on 10/12/2007, -11/+41@kingvar
O'Reilly was NOT getting upset/frustrated with Colbert when he was yellowing, anyone that has ever seen O'Reilly angry can easily tell the difference. His face was NOT contorted with anger (he was holding back a smile) as when he gets frustrated or angry. It was Bill being "funny" - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31Wait till you have a son or a daughter. :-)
I fully expect my daughter to look at me one day and tell me how backwards-thinking I am. And if she does, that will be one of the best days of my life.
Because, I taught her to think for herself. - AK10, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Colbert: "I'm doing YOU Bill!"
Priceless! - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -5/+31Why would he? He's made up his mind about everything already.
- Shadar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26"and at least he backs up his evidence. "
I do not think this sentence means what you meant it to mean.
Perhaps you instead meant to say "and at least he backs up his opinions with evidence" tho I fear it is more truthful the way you said it. He backs up his evidence with opinions. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31THANK GOD FOR JON STEWART AND STEPHEN COLBERT!!!!!!!!
How ironic that Americans have to watch a Comedy channel to get the news.
"a recent study by the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey, which said young viewers of "The Daily Show" were more likely to answer questions about politics correctly than those who don't."
http://www.freepress.net/news/4765
”Viewers of Jon Stewart's show are more likely to have completed four years of college than people who watch "The O'Reilly Factor," according to Nielsen Media Research.”
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6117542/
Also, funny that after Stewart appeared on Crossfire and outed them for not really being a debate show but just another right-wing extremist circus that is destroying American, CNN cancelled the show.
Thanks for that Jon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmZkw169xEI - jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19i think he's pretty quick on his feet - i doubt all his interviews are scripted, and he generally comes up with some quick, witty retorts.
sometimes he does just hang his head and laugh though...and i think it's that character trait that makes me admire him so much - iTorrey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I used to watch O'Reilly, I read his first book, I listened to Neal Boortz and Rush Limbaugh daily and even some Glenn Beck on the side for many years... and then George W. Bush became president. At first things seemed to stay the same, then as the war drums started beating after 9/11 I watched them all condoning violating the constitution, torture, 'racial profiling' and more. I started to see what they were all about. That they were the phony conservatives. The Neo-Conservatives who trick generally good people into supporting terrible things. They are propagandists, and any good propagandist creates enemies (the 'left', the 'terrorists', the French) and blames all of the world's ills on them.
But look to your left and there is a gatekeeper there to herd you back in to the Left vs. Right fake debate. Once I broke out of thinking in terms of Left vs. Right and started thinking in terms of Right vs. Wrong, the world makes much more sense. I watch '24' and every episode is about torture and locking innocent people up in concentration camps for 'the greater good', but don't worry, they also got some terrorists in the camp too.. so see, it's all for the better! I watch them build strawmen and knock them down such as killing one innocent man to save others. It is very subtle brainwashing... or better yet, conditioning. Conditioning people to accept tyranny as long as it's wrapped in a nice slick wrapper like 'the greater good' or 'to fight terrorism' or 'to save our children'.
That is our system. Good Cop, Bad Cop. Right now, it's the "left's" turn to play good cop. Give it a few more years and it'll be the "right's" turn. The population will just watch their liberty erode with every wave of the flag. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Uhh.. he really didn't fall for anything there. He followed through with the joke.
- AK10, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23"Yes, O'Reilly leans to the right in his opinions"
But incessantly claims to be the one and only unbiased news source out there.
"Colbert's show is just humor and entertainment" & "at least [O'Reilly] backs up his evidence"
You have a very short memory. - ocellnuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13That's what stuck out to me the most, I've never heard laughter on the O'Reilly set before.
- Pentagonian, on 10/12/2007, -10/+22that's not a "play on words" it's two different words
- EztliNahua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Laugh track = pre-recorded laughter
The Colbert Report = live audience that knows he is hilarious - jraines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9OK, well I think it's a keeper. If you want to download it, you can here: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/01/18/colbert-on-the-oreilly-factor/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16little jabs just like at the white house dinner last year, just amazing. I like his play on words to, "I dont imitate you, i emulate you, so i don't owe you anything".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Let me get this straight. Bill is proud to be such an ass that a comedian can base an entire television series (in his eyes) on his arrogance?
- Nn010385, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"I'm afraid of bears. I think owls are a waste of time."
Simply brilliant. - michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That comment was brilliant.
- Poco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Stephen Colbert is extremely fast and probably well prepared - obviously you don't watch his show.
- sonaboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Make me a spaniel at thy gate, Bill."
funniest damn thing i've heard all week. O'Reilly was clearly out of his league here. Colbert just thinks on his feet faster, which is paramount to being a good entertainer. - dj961, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13I suspect it is difficult to make fun of people who aren't elected.
I have a feeling in my gut that Colbert, and every other comedian on TV will make fun of the Democrats once we give them enough time to do something stupid. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Cobert is just ***** insane and have everything ready for O'Reilly rofl. "A younger audience of 50's and 60's"..." 4AM .... yeah thats Pacific time" ROFL. It's funny how O'Reilly said that people who appears on TDS are just "trying to be cool", after tonight he would been on TDS and Cobert Report. Personally i dont find O'Reilly that bad of a guy. IMO hes a much better human being than douche bags like Rush Limbard and Ann Coulter.
- jackminardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is what we call an act. They were both in on it to get publicity.
And also, is the collbert show w/ o'rielly online yet? - danbuscaglia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6that the oreilly sexual harassment settlement? what a brilliant way to bring it up without bringing it up
- DigiRaven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Anybody here think that O'relly was yelling needs to review the video again. They both were screwing with each other. O'reilly was trying to be funny. Hence trying. But really they both seemed to had fun with the skit.
- davymac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7???
- Witchboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Just because Colbert's show is comedy doesn't mean it's not insightful. I've learned a lot more about politics and critical thinking from Stewart and Colbert.
America (the Book) is super comical, but is also extremely observant.
Can't say the same for Bill O'Reichly. - MrFlesh, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16It was boring because colbert didn't give O'Rielly anything to tear him down about. All he did was complimetn O'Rielly and that left O'Rielly with nothing and he yelled at Colbert to try to get him out of character. It was suppose to be boring like the his speech in front of the president was suppose to bomb.
- pruppert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Well I don't think it was scripted because yes, Colbert is that quick of a thinker on his feet.
Everyone's bashing Bill, but you have to give him credit too for at least having him on. It shows that at least he's trying to have a sense of humor even though he isn't funny. - xigxag, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17Some funny lines, but kind of disappointing that it was so scripted.
- SicSevens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow, I'm impressed. I don't think that was scripted, because SC is a quick thinker. There were so many little subtle things in there that Reilly either didn't pick up on, or completely ignored. Can't wait for the follow-up on The Colbert Report
