- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+99You sound surprised. MTV has only put out ***** for years. To put out something decent now would almost be wrong.
I remember when once upon a time and long ago, Music Television actually played music videos...that didn't suck. - JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -4/+93I've completely given up on MTV.
- dominasian, on 10/12/2007, -12/+65most idiotic show ever?
Surely this can't top the O.C. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+48"New MTV Show The Most Idiotic They've Done Yet"
It takes guts to say something like this. - drunkentoad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+43Stupid? Yes!
New? No!
An Australian band called regurgitator did the exact same thing a few years ago in Melbourne Australia. Locked themselves in a giant bubble for a month or so in the middle fo the city and wrote and recorded an album. Album was pretty average , but it got the band attention and it was pretty cool to see. - ShBm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44They put ***** "Dr. Pepper" in the name of the show?? If there is a God, he'd have killed us all long ago.
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38MTV is the perfect example of a media conglomerate trying to capture the eyeballs of an entire age demographic by trying to be something to everyone, when they should have just stuck with doing one thing and doing it well.
"One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don't mean *****." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35People still watch MTV?
- TheSaladMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Wow, I think this might be the first thing MTV has done that involves music in any way in 10 years... still crap though
- benmarvin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26MTV has never been worth my time.
- stealth45, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Theres no doubt in my mind that they'll top this next season.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Their writers must be high as *****.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug... - timlopez, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24Cartel huh? Well, at least they didn't pick a good band.
- darkbytes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Every New MTV Show The Most Idiotic They've Done Yet
- jiggawoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Also, they didn't make an entire TV show out of it. They had cameras in there, so if you were interested, you could jump on the net and have a look. They also cut to the cameras at various times through the day on channel [V] (music channel on Aussie pay TV). It was more interesting just to have a look while walking through town on the way to work or on the way home from the pub.
The album was fairly average, but then I'm not sure how easy it would be to create an album under those circumstances. Although "the Gurge" had been slowly getting worse anyway (IMO). They pretty much summed it up in their song called "I like your old stuff better than your new stuff".
As for this show, yeah, pretty stupid. But MTV's most idiotic to date? I dunno, it's competing with the likes of My Super Sweet 16 etc... - Lokix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I remember, as a kid, MTV put me to sleep like nothing else could. MTV fails at everything else.
- sysoprock, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Hey bro, I got the new Cartel song on my V-Cast phone.
It..
gets...
me...
PUMPED! - zizzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Worse than this?
http://www.arrogantics.com/2007/04/20/lose-your-virginity-for-mtvs-new-reality-series/ - christopheles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Sounds like the poster has never seen "Parental Control" or any other of MTV's dating shows for that matter. They're all truly reprehensible even without blatant corporate sponsorship.
- givemereplay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Brian Peppers presents internets in a bubble
- stuma9000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Look far be it from me to support MTV but this stunt was done here in Australia a couple of years ago with our band Reguritator... I think it might actually be an interesting idea to de-mystify the music creation process.
As such is a little bit of a step away from corporate controlled dross music that MTV usually play. Certainly the idea is perhaps crass or weird but why does everyone think that it is idiotic? - dredwolff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Mmmmm.... Dr Pepper :)
/didn't RTFA
//doesn't care about MTV or their stupid shows - bbrigg1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9No one that records an album in a bubble for MTV cares about the music more than the fame. They claim to, I'm sure, but they don't.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9People still watch MTV?
- manti5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So Cartel... "I guess I'll see you, I'll see you around" in crappy music land.
- mattxb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Human Giant is awesome though (not that MTV created that, they just bought it but still)
- rhun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They did this show on one of our cable music networks, Channel V, here in Australia a few years ago. They had Aussie band Regurgitator living in the bubble and they put one of their least likeable presenters, Jabba, into the bubble with them. Jabba proceeded to irritate the band to the point of mutiny and broke, or at the very least damaged, their instruments.

- Racerx52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Holy *****, That is the most immoral thing I've ever heard of.
- PlaidPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"They put ***** "Dr. Pepper" in the name of the show??"
Such branding has a long and glorious history in radio:
- The Camel Show (Abbott & Costello)
- Camel Playhouse
- Kraft Music Hall
And television:
- The Chevy Show
- Kraft Music Hall (again)
- Texaco Star Theatre
That's just from checking a couple of online lists. I'm sure I could find more if I bothered. - vegasbright, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow, the sad thing is that the drones who watch MTV will watch it.
- lukychmz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4this will fit well for their target audience of an IQ of 4- 50....
I stopped watching that network when they took jackass off - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Does anyone else find it ironic that the (exceptional) band they're shamelessly copying this from is Australia's Regurgitator...
who's the regurgitator now MTV... - Ibanezfoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Does anyone actually watch MTV anymore?
- hatchetj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4when the 'gurge was in the bubble in australia, didn't they set up a whole channel for it? so you could check in 24/7? it was like [V] bubbleview or something...
- xmuzik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4MTV SUCKS !
- retard75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The thing that is not surprising in the least bit, is the fact MTV has pretty much always been a joke.
The exception is to VERY FEW shows that actually entertain if that.
I would love to see MTV completely taken off television and replaced with something else.
Something not related to music in anyway because the word music to people today really don't understand the concept of MUSIC. Music has been replaced with the two words , Loud Sound. As long as there is some sort of sound melodic or not, you have a band and when you get enough money, you're top in the country. You already have Fuse, BET and VH1 spraying garbage all over the television, one less defining what we listen to... would be one step closer to a nation without idiocy. - LoveWidescreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To MTV:
As someone whose formative teen years were in the 1980s when MTV was actually good, I beg of you ... stop. Please. Just stop. - krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3am i not the only person who's bugged about a 5 sentence article on a page littered with ads that bitches about a band in a clear plastic box sponsored by KFC and friends?
marked as spam. - adragontattoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3MTV now sells DVDs of Yoga and Pilates. They sell their own MTV labeled DVDs of Yoga and Pilates in case you missed that the first time. I remember a time long ago when MTV played music and only music, now they play ***** with the occasional sample of a music video thrown in for good measure.
Oh well, not like they are going to play videos of anything that isn't Rap or corporate pop-punk anyways. - Noelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Where do I sign up?
- thruandthru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3(empty)V should change their name. I can't remember the last time I saw a full music video on that channel dedicated to MUSIC TELEVISION.
- kpsk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh, they're just trying to make a buck off of other people's talent, hard work, and creativity - no big deal!
- sterntastic223, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Who are you? As in...which A & R are you assisting/interning for?
- noisymime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think one of the things that made it work with the Gurge was that they were already a well established band. They had a personality and a pretty passionate fanbase. Doing this with an 'up and coming' band that no one has of heard of just sounds boring.
- Enlightenment, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have the greatest idea in the world for an show:
- You show these mini-videos that play along with a song, they will be called Music Videos.
- You hire some people that annouce music videos and have live interview with different bands, since they are kind of like DJ's, you call them VJ's.
- You then do all of this on a cable channel and name your channel Mtv to mean Music Television.
I've use to watch Mtv during the first several years of its existance, back when M meant Music, not it is nothing more than Reality Crap TV. Thanks Mtv for destroying something that use to be very cool! F*cking Idiots!!!
I demand that Mtv change its name! If you don't play Music Videos, then you must remove the M from your name!!! - geekcomputing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3mtv ruled from mid 80's to early 90's.. maybe 92?
after that it went to rap and reality tv and dumb shows and lame ass vj's - megaton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5EmptyV
(PS. Needs more cowbell.) - ross., on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah they set up a digital only channel to get people to convert to digital foxtel...i'm sure that came up trumps for them
