- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -26/+272Muslims do more to damage the public image of Islam as a whole than 24 could ever do. If they want to criticize someone for damaging Islam's public image, they should start with the militant and violent amongst themselves.
Back during the cold war, the Soviet Union and communists in general were fair game for fictional portrayals of evil. Sure, American communists were offended. No, I don't think they were owed an apology; communism proved itself for what it was; a bad tree bears bad fruit. Why should Islamic terrorism be exempt from fictional portrayal and reflection of what we see in our world today? - Nicolay77, on 10/12/2007, -31/+19424 writers urged to be careful of portrayal of muslims.. or we will kill you
Att: muslims - sdrawkcaB, on 10/12/2007, -7/+150Did nobody else notice that there were characters on the show that said it was unfair for them to be racially profiling all the Muslim people? It's part of the storyline!

- ChillHomie, on 10/12/2007, -20/+131So in the show band of brothers, does that make all Germans look like Nazi's????
Incase they haven't noticed, the terrorists we are in a war with, ARE ARAB MUSLIMS. - greymaxcat, on 10/12/2007, -19/+72Islam is a religion of peace. Peace being defined as the total eradication of all non believers.
- GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -4/+57They've had non-Muslim terrorists on 24. One season it was Serbs. Another it was a British ex-MI6 agent.
The show is about Jack Bauer. The Serbs were trying to kill Bauer. The British ex-MI6 agent was trying to kill Bauer. The terrorists this season were/are trying to kill Bauer.
This apparently is lost on professional victimization organizations. - kingvar, on 10/12/2007, -15/+65Guess what: Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all post 2001 terrorists are muslims.
- AdmiralAdama, on 10/12/2007, -5/+51What do they want, to show Episcopalian Terrorists?
- oldman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+52Whether it is outrage over Bill Dana's caricature (character?) Jose Jimenez, or Blacks or whoever, I usually take these gripes with a grain of salt. If Muslims really want to know who is tarnishing their image they need to look at the Muslims making news rather than the fictional ramblings of Hollywood.
In fairness to Fox there are Muslim characters on that show who are shown as ultra patriotic (the boss of the president's sister - whatever his name is).
Got to say there is much less to complain about here than others. - Skitzzo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43Seriously... this is just getting ridiculous. If anything, I thought that the episodes portrayed the detention of Muslims in a poor light, not the Muslims. I think this falls into the category of "If you look for something hard enough, you'll find it"
- Malshew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36At least they didn't try to portray their prophet. Then they'd have to live their life hiding.
- DirkBelig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35If CAIR showed as much concern about the REAL Muslims who are making Islam look like a refuge for barbaric packs of terrorists as they did about FICTIONAL Muslims, I'd take their alleged concerns more seriously. For a group so closely linked to terror organization Hamas and its aims to be complaining about how Muslims are portrayed is to laugh.
- eonblue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34http://digg.com/videos/people/Caught_on_tape_regular_Mosques_in_Britain_Preaching_hate
Did more damage then 24 has ever done. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34Counter-Terrorists Win!
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31Don't forget the narco-terrorists of Latin America. We didn't hear crybabies bitching about the vilification of Hispanics when they did that. At the same time the narco-terrorists aren't causing nearly as much havoc in the world today as the Jihadists.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34like oldman and berkana said when was the last time you saw Muslims protesting the jihad movements? its almost like they turn a blind eye in the other direction and it really ticks me off
- xuanyan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Well done, PerroLoco. You would think that Muslims themselves would be the ones most concerned with stopping terrorism.
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23@sdrawkcaB
Not only that, but even one of those that was unfairly imprisoned is making a point of relaying information he's hearing from possible terrorists. So it seems to me that just like in the real world, there are good people and bad people who are members of the same group. - greymaxcat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24I am almost 100% sure Pee Wee Herman blew up the US Marine barracks in Beirut In 1983. but I could have been high...
- TheIguana, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28It is kind of ironic that a number of the terrorists they are portraying as muslim extremists are not even Arab, they are Indian. *Points at Kumar as a prime example*
Iggy :) - bpwwhirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23And last season they had Russian terrorists, with a complicit American administration.
- ChillHomie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22I label Christians that blow up Abortion clinics as wacko's... And I denounce what they do.
- gfreeman223, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Cry me a goddamn river.
Do Jews complain when Palestinian TV shows portraying Jews as blood sucking, young children kidnapping and eating demons air? What about all the movies and TV shows portraying Americans as barbaric invaders? I understand that not all Muslims are bad, but all this politically correct whining in America needs to stop. Muslims extremists use the first amendment to protect their freedom to spew vitriolic hate against all American men, women and children... yet does the Muslim community publicly denounce these extremists? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo. Only when a stupid (but infinitely entertaining) TV show comes out do they go out and complain about their sore vaginas in public.
As one dirty and untalented American named Justin Timberlake would say, "Cry me a riverrrr, just cry me a river, wooOOoo wooo!" - SeanFL, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21if only Muslims would be more concerned with their religion being used as a springboard to terrorism.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+28The proof is in the news ever day! Everyone should get their head out of the sand and just look at who is doing all of the killing in the world today. By the way it's not Christian or Jewish countries it's the Muslims. The truth hurts but facts are facts, that is unless we rewrite the history of what's happening in our world today and we can blame all of this on President Bush, Christians, and Jews. Now that's better we are now politically correct. The worlds problems are solved.
- SeanFL, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21storm8956, I don't believe I'm a black helicopter kind of guy...but I'm sure there are al qaeda and hezbollah in the US right now. Whether they are planning bombing attacks or sending over money for others to do that...either way, they're planning for our destruction. The plot on 24 might not be too far away from reality.
http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20050519-092915-7312r.htm - ewagnerjr2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16maybe they should stop killing people in the name of their religion!
- gnarbuckets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17@ChillHomie:
You're half right... "Rather, Hitler advocated a 'Positive Christianity', a belief system purged from what he objected to in traditional Christianity, and reinvented Jesus as a fighter against the Jews." (Wikipedia) - repins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15That's it my last name ends in a Vowel, I am an Italian American and I am tired of HBO portraying all Mafia members as Italian in their show "The Sopranos". Damn it I need a good lawyer so I can sue!
- ChillHomie, on 10/12/2007, -34/+47@aniceatheist
Hitler was closer to Atheism than anything else, he hated Christians, so don't try to tell me that he was one. - Spetz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Pfft. That article is ridiculous. If you actually watch 24 with any degree of intelligence you can clearly see that the show is anti racism, pro freedom, and a warning to where society could end up if those freedoms are restricted. Guantanamo bay anyone?
- Malshew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I like how by the end there wasn't other options, it really drove the point home.
- muleking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I agree, 24 should take place in a fantasy land where Islam is hearts and Rainbows and people aren't put to death for blaspheming a prophet a merchant who lived over a 1000 years ago, and embassies aren't attacked over having a free press.
- witte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"Muslims voice concern over..."
• cartoons
• tv shows
• $60 oil being too low
• other muslims of imperceptibly different sects
• women showing their ankles
• pictures of people's faces
• girls in school
• Terrorism?
Pffft. - giddytonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12There's nothing wrong with criticizing or illustrating villainy with dark ideologies such as radical Islam, KKK, or Nazism. Especially in fiction.
- OwdenBowden, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20This is such BS that it is driving me insane.
It is fine for Muslims to depict every religion and group in a light of hatred and bigotry but when it comes to someone doing it back to them they have a problem with it? Enough of this pandering to a group of people that 100% Support the Negativity and Hatred of the rest of the world. You may be sacred in your inner Muslim circles but you are fair game everywhere else. It is sad that when we need a Television program to tell the world the truth about Muslims. They do not ride the peace train and they would be more than happy to have all non Muslims put to death then to have to integrate with them. I am sick of the BS PR campaigning that "Islam is Peace" BULL *****! Islam is all about killing the infidels and guess what kids - if you are not a Muslim then you are an infidel and need to be beheaded.
These people are terrorists! They target innocent people. They suicide bomb school buss's filled with children. They blow up Planes, Trains, Auto, Building and what ever they can. I hope 24 keeps digging into this group of people that Never denounce the atrocities that they have created and are 100% responsible for! Yes, there is a jihad going on in to world (started by Muslim terrorists / suicide bombers / baby killers) but will end with their destruction at the had of the infidels of the world.
Don't be fooled by the forked Muslim tonge - they are the true Satan and they will lead to the destruction of all that you know to be true.
***** THEM ALL
Digg me Down / Digg me up - I don't care.
P.s. - I have every right to my opinion. And for the record - it was Muslims that killed my life long Friend in London on July 7, 2007. He was Blown Up by Muslims - Not Christians; Not Jews; Not Buddhists - MUSLIMS. SO ***** ALAH and ***** MUSLIMS ! - Karmalary, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11If it walks like a duck...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19OUCH! That's going to leave a mark.
- johnnygriswold, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Not all Muslims are terrorists... But the ones that aren't terrorists will never condemn those who are.
- roverreporter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@hamedee
American Muslims and all non-extremists need to stand up and make their opinions heard. Resist them! Don't allow these people to represent you. Make your voices louder than their din. If what's missing in this is edification, then by all means, do your part to enlighten our unwashed masses, shut down these people unworthy of your religion.
edit:
@yoshi: thank you for those links.
@felchdonkey : exactly. - readme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I'm really happy they used Islamic terrorists rather than sticking their heads in the sand and going with Russians or something not "read world."
Islam has a problem with terrorism. It's a fact. Don't pretend otherwise. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11if they don't want to be portrayed as terrorists they shouldn't BE terrorists
- hthth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@PerroLoco
You get my nomination for comment of the month. - Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Because if there's a Non-white character on a show, it's never a single fictitious character. It's a representation of the ENTIRE race.
/sarcasm - danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12This just in. Hillbillies prefer to be called "Sons of the South". Nation denies to give a *****.
- fraggle35, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13They don't have to watch it.
- evodevo1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't understand the whole muslim mentality. The radical muslims preach death to all who don't believe in islam, with part of the justification in that muslims are being persecuted by westerners. How are they being persecuted by the West? If I'm not mistaken, most of the deaths in Iraq are because of muslims killing other muslims.
Make no mistakes, the radical muslim leaders are DEMAGOGUES, much like Hitler is one. They arouse the passions of the people by blaming their own plight (which is mostly their own fault anyways) on a target population. Then they use that as justification to kill their "enemies".
If the muslim community is concerned about it's image, why is there not more outcry concerning the violence preached by the leaders and the violence by muslims? Where was the outcry when the news of beheadings came out of iraq? I was completely sickened by those videos, yet I do not hear any muslims denouncing such brutality. Don't start blaming 24 for tarnishing your reputation when other videos speak much more loudly. - GoblinSoul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Will the Muslims ever stop complaining?
Im not racist in any way, but i mean just STFU! - t3rmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8How come nobody asks the question "*why* does Islam have such a problem with terrorism?"? Why are we so afraid of the answer being "because that's what the Quran/Hadiths encourage."? Is it possible for a belief system to be patently harmful at its core? Yes! Is it politically correct to acknowledge? No way.
Islam with the problem of terrorism "addressed" could no longer be Islam. It cannot be reformed or moderated to exclude terrorism without contravening basic tenets of their founders and holy writings.
Are there non-terrorist people who claim to be Muslims? Yes. Are they accurately and devotedly following the teachings are their religion? No. So-called "radical Islamists" are simply more staunch and dedicated followers. The problem *IS* Islam itself. -
