- robertisaar, on 06/08/2009, -5/+195if you aren't prepared, you are very damn ignorant, they have been showing the ads for at least a year...
- one504, on 06/08/2009, -0/+134Many will just sit there watching the static.
- alethes1973, on 06/08/2009, -2/+115What if these millions facing blank screens figured out they can do other stuff besides watch TV?
- kayson, on 06/08/2009, -2/+95At this point I have no sympathy. People need to stop living under rocks.
- therippa, on 06/08/2009, -1/+74They've had more than enough time to get their ***** together.
- grinsy, on 06/08/2009, -7/+66Will Digg still work?
- bfrank72, on 06/08/2009, -0/+54Oh no, big crisis. Millions missing out on TV is like saying millions will be forced not to eat a ***** sandwich.
- dirtmaster, on 06/08/2009, -8/+58HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH@OLD PEOPLE
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -4/+52They'll assume it's the Rapture and consult the Bible instead of TV Guide.
- turpenine, on 06/08/2009, -2/+49well then you won't notice it isn't working.
- craptastrophy, on 06/08/2009, -1/+46Good. It was their bedtime anyway. <blink>12:00</blink>
- ericcc, on 06/08/2009, -2/+46Yeah well it beats "The Hills" at least.
- kagebutsu, on 06/08/2009, -10/+51Who ***** cares, its not like good tv even exists anymore.
- ripple123, on 06/08/2009, -1/+41i predict a spike in births 9 months after the cutoff date.
- temsi, on 06/08/2009, -2/+38Seriously, how long do these people need?
This has been postponed for years, and most recently the government (meaning, we the tax payers) handed out $40 coupons to ease the switch.
Honestly, if you can't be bothered to get a free box, or pay the $10 to $20 difference, then maybe you shouldn't be watching television.
Watching television is not a right. - spookyttws, on 06/08/2009, -2/+36"Michael J. Copps, the acting head of the Federal Communications Commission, said that the people most likely to lose reception are society’s most vulnerable — lower-income families, the elderly, the handicapped and homes where little or no English is spoken. The transition will also hit inner-city and rural areas hardest, he said."
It's ***** television! Yes, it will inconvenience some people, but no one will be hurt or be in danger. Hell, it's the summer, no good tv will even be missed. It would be another thing if the transition was on the series finale of Lost or something, but there's nothing great on (and if you've got a favorite show watch it on the net). - tas08, on 06/08/2009, -1/+35I don't give a flying ***** if they don't have TV. They have had YEARS! They even postponed it from February and spent 2 BILLION dollars (in our ***** economy) to warn you. If you don't have the switch ready by now, then tough ***** *****. You still have an antennae and a TV that can only work with one, you didn't get your vouchers to get your box for free... GAME OVER. We need to stop being sissies about this whole thing and just do it. Those who want TV bad enough will figure it out eventually. Oh, and what about people like me who live in dorms that don't provide cable - I can't pick up the sports games with antennas anymore like we used to. Don't hear me bitching.
FTA
If you didn't know what to do cause you don't speak English... screw you. Learn English if you're living in our country. What are you watching on TV in non-English you can only get with an antenna anyway? Nothing. So no one cares.
You didn't need to be more clear with the warnings. All you needed to say was "You might no longer get TV on *this* date, especially if you don't already have cable or satellite. Call this number for details:" That's it. If you don't care enough about your TV to look into it at that point, then tough *****. Old people can pick up the phone, or mention it to a loved one when they visit.
Making sure people understand the difference between the digital signal and analog is ***** IRRELEVANT to making sure they switch. Holy ****, you don't make sure people know exactly how hybrid engines work before telling them they should switch to that.
I'm sorry, I'm just so goddamn sick of these morons and their sob story ***** over this switch. - ShingoEX, on 06/08/2009, -1/+33Then you won't miss it.
- salinungatha, on 06/08/2009, -4/+35In Los Angeles, a violent mob of 25,000 has been rioting nonstop since Monday night, setting autos aflame and terrorizing electronics repair stores. Marching through the streets with their no-longer-functioning TVs skewered at the ends of long poles, the L.A. rioters have captured many of these electronics stores' employees, angrily demanding they "fix" the defunct sets, savagely beating them when they are inevitably unable to do so.
"No... tee... VEEEEEE..." droned Knoxville, TN, dry cleaner Dave Benedict, drooling heavily as he repeatedly pointed and clicked his now-obsolete remote control at the blank screen of his Sony Trinitron. "Where... Frasier?... can't see... Frasier..." Benedict has remained in such a state for the last 72 hours, gripping the arms of his recliner, surrounded by empty soda cans and snack-chip bags, and waist deep in his own feces and urine.
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/30278 - misreto, on 06/08/2009, -1/+31Okay dumbasses above. The ads arent just on TV. Walk into any story and you see posters up. I worked in Best Buy 2 years ago and we had ads up there as well. Radio spots as well are advertising the swtich. Not to mention the analog stations you get on with the antenea are pumping out advertising for switching to digital. Hell I just saw it advertised 2 times an hour ago. Make it even better is they show old people making the switch.
- mulling, on 06/08/2009, -7/+36I can't believe this is a big deal. There are 30+ million people without HEALTH INSURANCE and people are worried that a bunch of idiots won't be able to watch their soaps? This country really is *****.
- IllBeBack, on 06/08/2009, -1/+27No, you will need an Internet Converter Box or you will no longer be able to access Digg or any other site.
However, I have ICBs for sale and you can buy one for the low low price of just 3 payments of $29.95.
BUT WAIT! There's more! If you buy within the next 30 minutes, we will include TWO ICBs, all for the low low price of only 3 payments of $29.95!
CALL NOW! - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -0/+21Oh no! Millions of morons might miss out on their daily dose of "Reality TV!" We can't have that!
- ripple123, on 06/08/2009, -2/+23static is so emo. its transmissions from the void, man.
- qazws, on 06/08/2009, -0/+19Jump into the TV. Nintendo games will still work.
- ShingoEX, on 06/08/2009, -1/+18They've given the stupids plenty of time and warning to get prepared. Too bad...so sad.
- Jareth86, on 06/08/2009, -0/+15BREAKING: three million Americans get off their fat asses and do something else.
- TotalHalibut, on 06/08/2009, -0/+15Go outside, television is not an essential part of your life, you do not need it to live.
- willterminus, on 06/08/2009, -0/+14Now how are we supposed to watch Jackie Gleason while we eat?
- tnoy, on 06/08/2009, -1/+14If you didn't know, its also a sign that you never read any newspapers, watch any local or national news, etc.
Not knowing about the switch would be like not knowing Bush is not our president anymore. - ElGubrush, on 06/08/2009, -5/+17What is this... tee vee you speak of?
Is it like Hulu? - FordSVT1, on 06/08/2009, -0/+11My grandmother is NINETY SEVEN ***** YEARS OLD and knows about the switch.
Sorry, we can't watch out for the television needs of every shut-in and deep-woods dweller who doesn't watch enough TV in the first place to have noticed the ads for the past year. - Ymeg, on 06/08/2009, -4/+15What makes you assume they can not figure out what to do besides watching TV? If they still had analog TV, they weren't watching very much in the first place.
- Jpeg2600, on 06/08/2009, -0/+10This is not sad
- Identity4, on 06/08/2009, -0/+9That's a rather impressive amount of urine and feces for only 72 hours.
- VacantThoughts, on 06/08/2009, -2/+11I really can't tell if your being sarcastic or not, lets all hope you are.
- tomato1324, on 06/08/2009, -0/+9that sucks. move on. they couldve put this off for another 5 years and there would still be people bitching that they're not ready. only way to make them get ready is to shut their signal off. maybe then if they care enough, they'll get the point.
- FordSVT1, on 06/08/2009, -2/+11Did anyone say this was as big a deal as health care reform? Are we supposed to talk about nothing else in the media until health care reform has been dealt with?
And finally, overreact much? - Smills, on 06/08/2009, -0/+8That's where we differ. I would.
- centran, on 06/08/2009, -7/+15I wonder if it is a smart idea to cut the signal all together. Maybe they should broadcast information for a week or two after the switch. Basically a message on the analog signal that states how it is past the date and they need to switch.
- Dragular, on 06/08/2009, -2/+9The converter is, after the government coupon they give you in store, only $5. If you can't afford $5, skip watching television for one month, leave the set off, and you will save more than $5. After you pay your electric bill, bam, saved $5, go buy the converter. Hooray for technology.
- xexx, on 06/08/2009, -2/+9... hardly, I've tried 2 different converter boxes and they've both picked up more channels in better quality than analog ever did.
- septicmadman, on 06/08/2009, -1/+8Silly person I can't buy your ICBs without a phone number...
- Barackalypse, on 06/08/2009, -2/+9At least President Obama seems like he's going to let this switchover happen without calling for yet another delay.
- Abram730, on 06/08/2009, -0/+7We spent more on telling people about the switch to digital TV then we spend teaching people to read. Shows DC's priorities for you.
Hey not to worry.. a large number of those 3 million probably get cable.. they just don't pay for it. That could throw off statistics. - ericcc, on 06/08/2009, -1/+7My goal was only to make a comical qualitative assessment of The Hills.
- funkytaco, on 06/08/2009, -0/+6Now if I can only get my local radio station to play "War of the Worlds" in a loop, my evil plan will be complete.
- BossKey, on 06/08/2009, -0/+6they'rrre heeeeeere...
- glberns, on 06/08/2009, -1/+7Maybe they would better their community. Who would want that?
- daeus, on 06/08/2009, -0/+61% is caused from solar flare.
