- thekak, on 10/11/2007, -2/+91I'm sick of people randomly adding "killer" as a suffix to any new product that gets released that simply "competes" with another product. Just stop it. Nothing is ever a killer. There's a market for nearly everything.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+54Joost isn't alive enought to be killed
- tdrizzle, on 10/11/2007, -7/+56I was going to say Just wait for Apple's "joost killer" killer, then I remembered how much the AppleTV sucked.
- dgblackout, on 10/11/2007, -7/+25didn't microsoft announce an iPod killer a while back as well?
- canewediggit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14canewediggit introduces the Zi0n comment killer!
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Hell, they even updated the article: "Update: As posted in the comments below, the LiveStation team does not intend for their product to be a 'Joost killer.'"
- Kazbaeden, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Right, especially because microsoft SPECIFICALLY said this is NOT a Joost killer.
From the article, this quote is attributed to the LiveStation team:
"Unlike what some people are saying, we are definitely NOT TAKING ON Joost! We love Joost and think it's a great idea, but we are trying to do something different and complementary: we are trying to get live TV on the computer." - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Joost sucks anyway, wow I can watch lame TV on my computer. Arent we all shunning our TV in favor of other things these days?
- thugbear2005, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9they seem to be killing sony
- darkzealot89, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9darkzealot89 presents the iComment, the comment is new again.
- briguymaine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7this ties into the IPTV Xbox 360 thingy they announced last winter?
- E7ernal, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8This is good news - It'll force Joost to start adding new content to it's currently stale line-up in order to compete with Microsoft. Competition is good - It enhances the quality of the competitor's product.
- GeneralBison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Ha! Won't take much to kill Joost.
- stauken, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Nothing may ever be a "killer" but the intention of the company IS to indeed kill the other product. Just saying.
- GreenPlastik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I'm still fully expecting Google to buy TiVo and integrate their ad stream into the shows by building a marketing profile off of the shows you watch and then tie the whole mess into the massive dark fiber data network they have built for themselves to stream targeted commercials to your door with the option to click for an email to your gmail account or an add to your cart in your Google Products account. Now that would be some sort of killer (of my privacy...)
Longest sentence ever. Faulkner eat your heart out. - CJChesterson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Forget about killing Joost... let's get rid of cable TV! I'm tired of paying out the ass for 50 channels I never watch. Give me this and the few channels I enjoy, and I'll be done with Comcast.
- reed311, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Yeah, I've been using joost for several months now and I've got to be honest: it sucks really, really bad. The content is terrible. I mean, it's a nice idea, but the content is what makes or breaks you. In conclusion, joost sucks.
- JimmyRyan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5This looks really promising, but it really didn't answer enough questions to label it a "killer" of anything!
- Yage2006, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7How can you kill what is already dead ?
- canewediggit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5canewediggit reduces price of Zi0n comment killer in fear
- KielKilla, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4How can joost be killed yet? I have it on my computer right now and it is barely alive... I doesn't have any good channels and the ones they do have are quite low quality.
- bobcatred, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4that's what I was thinking. It's not even out of beta yet...
- KielKilla, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I wouldn't say already dead... but it can barely move that's for sure.
- gungaroo22, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I bet they find it annoying that people try installing software on operating systems without the latest updates.
Why don't you just update? - GreenPlastik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I think he's running 10.4.10 (which to my recollection is the newest version), but the app thinks he's running 10.4.10 by not reading the trailing zero. There hasn't been a double-digit sub-subversion in a long time. 10 brownie points to the person who can tell me the last time it happened (Difficulty: I don't know the answer, so you will not actually get any points).
- mdp8889, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7well if microsoft's thing costs money it wont be killing much
- feelingkettle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Yup, you are correct! Not sure the answer to your question, though
- Shizlak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Why would something be a Joost killer? Joost is a failure.
TV is successful because it has content I want to watch. Joost is a failure because it does not have content I want to watch. - wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=joost
- estvir, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4No, they never announced the Zune as being an 'iPod killer' and in fact, they said the opposite just morons like you made up things in your silly minds. They said they knew the Zune 'battle' was going to be a LONG and HARD one and they didn't expect amazing sales at all because like with the Xbox they know they're entering a dense market with clear market leaders.
Now look at the Xbox, it did quite well and the 360 is also doing pretty darn well and guess what, A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE IT. Go find a clue, fLUx1337 (Wow, just wow) and others. - Feej, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That would be Ninja television.
- darkzealot89, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3canewediggit is now a part of the new darkzealot89, your comments delivered.
- dodgyd55, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3meh what ever, joost wasn't all that good, just download the shows you wanna watch
- AshTR, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Seems more like Microsoft's Xbox 360s are killing themselves.
- TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3yeah im thinking this might be the pc version of the 360s iptv capabilities.
- zdiggler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Joost is alive?
- dn11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4but is it brown?
- feelingkettle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Why don't you read my comment again? I am on the latest update, 10.4.10(ten). The installer thinks I'm on 10.4.1(one)
- str3ama, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2lol MS is a little slow and needs to come up with shocking ideas of their own, but I think they'll dominate. Zattoo doesn't look to be winning anything - mainly aimed at European market so there underselling it in other markets, Joost is only streaming shows tantamount to Bittorrent (which is IMO better). Then theirs tv sites which are mediocre: http://www.freetube.us.tc http://www.tv-links.com http://www.vidoo.com
- tigerjk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2thats what i'm saying...the only thing i watch on it is fifth gear and thats not even as good as top gear.
- feelingkettle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I tried installing it on my Macbook, but apparently it won't let me install it because it thinks I'm running 10.4.1 instead of 10.4.10. I've had this happen with another app as well. Very annoying.
- GreenPlastik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The framework is the important thing. Let's just say if there were no torrents for people to download, BitTorrent technology would still be a technological semi-marvel. Content or not, the Joost concept is quasi-revolutionary if not a bit obvious. What I don't quite understand is why people are treating IPTV with this much difficulty. I'm no expert or anything, but isn't the bottleneck mostly just in the networks not providing their content to media venues that aren't ad supported. They go where the money is. Joost is free.
Your point is well taken though. How often do I want to watch test driving shows on the Fifth Gear network... - moocow1452, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You do realize it's still in beta and has maybe been a year since it was conceived at the first place.
- safiire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Why does Microsoft feel the need to be in every single ***** market? It's like they do ten thousand different things and none of them very well.
They have to have an Microsoft answer for every technology that comes out even if it's a game console or a ***** mp3 player. - kidcodea, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i'm glad.
was obvious from day1 to betatesters that joost was a mediocre product that did nothing to hear the feedback of users. born feeble, and dies young, for the best of all except the dumb people that invested in joost.
what we need is at least 1280x720 h24 p2p live tv and ***** all the rest...
anyone going to stage6 can see real hd streaming very well (not live content)
i need that, scalable for future with live sports and dats it. done with tv - dalesmatrix, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Not sure why people hate on the AppleTV, it's a pretty slick device. Video, movies, itunes, photos + youtube all in a fantastic interface that's a pleasure to use.
- Reno582, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I guessing that its bringing both IPTV and Live's Video Marketplace to the PC.
- KielKilla, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So you think XP was a flop?
