- Alfdog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+68"Groening had mentioned that, even though he's still very involved with The Simpsons his "day job" is creating the sixteen new episodes of Futurama that will be airing on Comedy Central starting in 2008."
The series ended August 10, 2003, so... it took them only 5 years to figure out that people still like it. - zenerdiode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+49to each his own...but I've always thought futurama was much better than either simpsons or family guy.
I love all three, but to me, they're funny for different reasons, and futurama's reasons suit me the most:
simpsons = goofy, silly humor EVERYBODY can appreciate
family guy = mean, horrific, pop-cultured laced humor that really, really DISTURBED people (me, for example) love
futurama = more subtle, socially conscious, satirical humor. I wouldn't say it's intellectual humor, but it does take some thought. And the part that takes the cake, FOR ME, is how touching some of the stories can be. - rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+48Zoidberg rules.
- afrayedknot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36Family Guy>Futurama? that must ba a joke right?
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Because 30 minute animated episodes are much cheaper to produce than hour-long sci-fi episodes that require a full crew and set to film and maintain. Not to mention Family Guy and Futurama have a huge college following while Firefly has its smaller niche (yet completely devoted) fans. I love Firefly and wish it would come back, but for now it looks like Serenity is all we will get.
Plus, there are about 20 other Fox series that need to revived as well: Arrested Development, Wonderfalls, Undeclared, Brisco County Jr., The Tick, etc - rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23First Time's Person of the year, now this.
I ***** rock. - chrisOrbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I'm willing to wait till 2008. Until then I will keep watching my other favorite program: EVERYBODY LOVES HYPNOTOAD!!!
- burkewendt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23I have to give credit where credit is due. Futurama did have some episodes that ended up being very touching. The most notable one was the episode in which Fry finds his dog in a museum and wants to bring him back to life. The end scene where we see the fate of the dog was very touching and I'd be lying if I said i did not feel emotion.
- sathias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Token Jew? Oh of course, I can't believe I never noticed before... even with all those times that Jews have squirted me with their ink pouches.
- ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18While the shape shifting guy episode wasn't very strong, the reference to Married With Children when she walked in in high heels and "Al" was on the couch made the entire episode worth while.
Long Live Futurama... - burkewendt, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23"I did not care for the Godfather"
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Token Jew? No. Zoidberg rules. Hes sprinkled in the episodes spairingly so that he doesnt get to "in your face" and annoying. If you think hes the token jew, then at least consider him being the "typical" token jew, thrown in as a parody of token jews. Hes an outsider in every way, because of his race, position, sandles, and even income (hes always poor). He has no friends, but hes kept around as a lovable dolt that occasionally gets time in the spotlight. Hes so great because hes a gem in the rough. Man I love Zoidberg.
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I hope they manage to pull back the writing team from the original show. Nothing like a cartoon with obscure physics jokes.
- spyd3rweb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14thank god its going to comedy central and not to fox. they dont deserve it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20how come Family Guy and Futurama can be brought back from high DVD sales but not Firefly?
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think its because Futurama has had a steady stream devoted viewers watching the re-runs day-in day-out since it was cancelled on top of DVD sales.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14it's gone downhill in the last few seasons.
- FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10yes, yes, we all miss our loved ones and gases
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19I didn't care for Greg the Bunny
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Actually, I heard that an episod of Futurama cost around $500,000 to produce. Not sure what Firefly costs.
- bmarko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Good news everyone! - come on...someone has to write this for each Futurama story.
- pixelmixer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Which is great writing and clever seeing as the actress who voices Leela was the actress who played in Married with Children.
- cgruber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8All glory to the Hypnotoad!

Yes, because they started writing episodes next year. - STKD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7All glory to the Hypnotoad!
- offput, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11If you were a real Futurama fan, you'd call it Volume 5.
- Abno, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Except it's not Fox bringing it back, it's Comedy Central.
- Changa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6
Death by snu snu! - LDanix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sweet! Can't wait!
Be sure to read David Cohen's interview that is linked to in the story. He assures that the entire cast is back! - surfmadpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"We have the entire cast back, as well as a good chunk of the writing staff."
from the David X. Cohen interview. http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/toyfare/002710592.cfm - Jerk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No, the original Futurama fans actually watched it when it was in syndication, not when it came out on DVD.
- JesusIsSatan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There's always bittorrent. :) I used to grab the Justice League episodes from bittorrent which were shown in Japan a month earlier. Man, I miss the Justice League. :(
- adougherty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, it's quite simple. Groening has said that he wanted to bring back Futurama. Whedon has said he didn't want to bring back Serenity.
- tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@zenerdiode
I agree completely. Futurama's humor always seemed to be Far Side-esque. Family Guy is a great show, but it deals lot more with current culture and crazy situations. - Kahnza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Awesome. Can't wait to see season 6. :D
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@rockforever
The difference between your comment and his comment was yours was personal, and his was a Family Guy quote. - SpacePirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well. You _do_ have the internet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"i'm sure the poorly received movie didn't help"
did fine on DVD just like the TV show.
its fox's own dam fault for badly promoting this stuff - hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Zaphod2016
I've heard about $1,000,000 / episode for shows like Firefly - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"simpsons = goofy, silly humor EVERYBODY can appreciate"
Nhoo, that's what it's turned into - It used to be, erm, "moral" enough that it'd be fine to show people of any age (Particularly young children)(By that, I mean the "Well, I guess the moral of the story is [blah]"), but still have jokes and such that "older people" find funny, have a decent story for each episode, and acctualy bother to develop characters, and introduct them when their needed, not just when a scene was too short because 18 seasons-worth of episode have taken and decent ideas.
Now it's turning into a aimed-at-8-year-olds with crappy pop-cultured "Family Guy"-ish jokes added for absolutely no reason, with terrible storylines (Most end up comprising of "Family in random location, like a restaurant. Someone tells utterly-random story. Someone else tells end of story, [repeat for each character]. Pathically small plot concludes"). Another (random) point, proving that they seem to be "aiming at younger audiences", Bart and Lisa seem to be far less mature (in the way they act/talk) in the last few seasons (Far more "childish", for lack of a better word)
Family Guy has slowly gone down-hill (im my opinion anyway) - I still like it, but when I went back an re-watched the first season, I realized how much better it was without the episode relying on random jokes quite so much, I found the same with South Park (Although there's a bunch of recent episodes that were great, generally the first few seasons were *far* better)..
For that reason (That shows are really hard to keep going for many seasons, before you start to run out of ideas), I was kind of glad that they decided to end Futurama when they did - Out of all the TV shows I watch, there's very few that have continued to be as good going over 5 or so seasons (Scrubs is one, Red Dwarf, and as I said up a bit, South Park is still producing some decent episodes). The problem with long running shows is, even though they may have run out of ideas and have to start throwing random, unnessiary jokes every 20 seconds - They can't cancel it since it's too popular now, the longer is runs, the harder it gets to cancel it; that is, until they have totally destroyed the series.. Hopefully that won't happen with Futurama..
- Ben - eliotmat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Bring it back!
Bring it back! - jedimasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"That's still true today"

"With Gusto" - Moebaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My favorite episode was called "the sting". This article has rekindled my love for futurama and i am so now watching my favs again online this weekend.
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Binary jokes > physics jokes.
- burkewendt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What? I was quoting family guy... come to think of it, i never saw Greg the Bunny
