The show REALLY started to suck around that time, but they got everything figured out by the end of season 3 and it has been pretty consistently awesome for the last two seasons. I highly recommend going back and renting the old seasons and catching up.

    "Esau" can obviously appear in the form of any dead person on the island, which he's done more than once in the past, and Locke's just the latest. Either Jack or Locke had the leadership ability to get Ben to kill Jacob, but Jack's pattern of valuing rationality over all else would have made it too much of a stretch for anyone, including Ben, to buy. So, Locke it was.

    Meanwhile, Jacob has cleverly used Esau to get what he wanted all along: release from the burden of running the island.

    I'm in no way lamenting the series ending. I'm willing and read to be blown away.

    Waiting for season 6 is something I'm not enjoying :(
