- maxedo, on 12/17/2008, -2/+30I heard his chin is getting the 9 o'clock slot.
- doublefelix, on 12/17/2008, -0/+21Jay is actually really funny when he's appearing on other peoples shows or speaking extraneously. But his Late Night comedy is tame enough to play at 10 o'clock. I worry that if Conan is pushed forward into the 11 p.m. slot we might lose the masturbating bear.
- pitchblack16, on 12/16/2008, -6/+21What the hell is the point?? If that's the case why leave the late night spot at all, unless he's getting muscled out.
- apennyworth, on 12/16/2008, -1/+16Agreed. The best thing about late night shows is that you get to fall asleep before the weak second half.
- gmprunner, on 12/17/2008, -18/+32I actually like Jay Leno. Sue me.
- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -6/+15Jim Carrey should replace Jay Leno.

- Nev9, on 12/17/2008, -0/+7Leno on Top Gear, FTW
- CompanyCalls405, on 12/17/2008, -2/+8I watch Jay and Conan every night and personally I'm happy that Jay will stay on the air. I think it was clear Jay didn't actually want to leave but wanted to avoid the same situation he had with Letterman.
Honestly I don't understand why Jay can't stay at the Tonight Show and Conan at Late Night. Would it honestly be that bad? Sure the Tonight Show may be more prestigious and have an earlier time slot but Conan doesn't seem like the kind that would throw a huge fit about it. Everything's fine at the moment I see no issue with giving Jay a year or two more until he feels ready to step down. - helraizr, on 12/17/2008, -2/+8after this many years of being bland, he wants to kick his comedy up a notch?
Not likely to happen - chambana, on 12/17/2008, -1/+7Alright, you should be served soon.
- therightclique, on 12/17/2008, -0/+5Well, it's prime-er time.
- DarthNihilist, on 12/17/2008, -0/+5In his defence that isn't all he does, when he isn't doing bits from other shows, hes usually telling unfunny jokes.
- therightclique, on 12/17/2008, -2/+7If you don't think Conan is funny, something is wrong with your brain.
- JordanM85, on 12/17/2008, -5/+10Leno and Jimmy Fallon. Every. Single. Night.
Watching Conan is getting dangerous for me. I'm going to end up catching a few minutes of torture on both ends of his show now. - HyphySoul, on 12/17/2008, -1/+5I like his newspaper bits, but that's about it...
- mikeophile, on 12/17/2008, -1/+5Opening act for the local news?
- BoSuu, on 12/17/2008, -2/+6I was hoping he would just retire. :(
- mpobri, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4Johnny Carson created the Tonight Show empire, not Jay. Jay got that show when everyone expected Letterman to get it in '92, but Jay has done a great job (at least as far as ratings say). NBC feared had was Conan would leave in 2010 to ABC, and someone like Jon Stewart takes Letterman's show, now aging Leno is taking on 2 younger hosts, he'd likely not keep the important age group.
NBC made the right move to guarantee Conan would stay by promising the Tonight Showd, but they should have bought out Leno from 2010-15, avoiding any chance of competition. But I think this show, about 1/5 the price to produce than 5 weeknight hour-long dramas, was financially a good idea. - therightclique, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4Seriously, RTFA.
- KazamaSmokers, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Leno's a smart guy and he crafted the Tonight Show to go down smoothly in the easy 90's and 00's... but he'd better understand that the coming years won't be like that and the American mood will be profoundly different. He needs to go VERY Jack Parr with this new show... funny, but also topical and serious at times, even occasionally controversial.
- Olfster, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Networks are doomed. This is the beginning of the end.
- Griminald, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3NBC's lineup needs a huge shakeup, and Leno will probably outperform the crap they're currently showing in that slot anyway.
- Akairenn, on 12/17/2008, -5/+8Leno's plans for primetime:
"Eh heh heh, hey guys, I'm going to read typos from newspapers and crack jokes about Monica Lewinski. Eh heh heh heh!" - KazamaSmokers, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Jeff Zucker has destroyed NBC and now the network can't even afford to do 3 hours of scripted TV every night, so this is how they are trying to survive.
- 808ethan, on 12/17/2008, -2/+510 pm is prime time? *****, at 10pm the Science channel already starts with infomercials. (Lately, prayer evangelist infomercials, ironnically)
- DarthNihilist, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Don't forget not only are these shows cheaper, Jay will be on the air like 45 weeks a year, thats a whole lot of original programming for the money, compared to having to put on 5 hour long drama (one per night of the week) and show re-runs for over half of the year.
- antdude, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3How about Conan O'Brien skit?
- Xizer, on 12/17/2008, -1/+4Are you retarded or something? Obviously he wasn't referring to Leno's or Colbert's monetary wealth - he was referring to how funny they are and the type of people who watch them.
Leno is more geared toward the "commoner" than Colbert, whose work is entirely satirical. - neonsox, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3It's going to bomb hardcore and he will ultimately end up at ABC anyway. Conan, Jay, and Dave, by that order and eventual late night rank. You heard it here first.
- therightclique, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Yup. Pretty much.
- ibone, on 12/17/2008, -2/+4Leno has robbed Letterman for years. Letterman when he was with NBC was so good, I still like Letterman over Leno, I dont respect Leno at all.
Leno is even doing stupid pet tricks now. - lolwutpear, on 12/17/2008, -0/+210 PM is prime time? The Tonight Show starts at 10:35 in my time zone...
- KazamaSmokers, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2Howard Hesseman is getting a talk show?
- therightclique, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2pst. it did NOT require registration.
- CompanyCalls405, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2...Good point
- Elranzer, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2Before Conan?! Blasphemy.
- 808ethan, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2Hey, guess what Hawaiian Standard Time is? Forgot about that one didn't you. Its cool to be smug, but you have to be thorough before you do that.
But in the zipcode 96815 and see what the listings show for 10pm - rebrad, on 12/18/2008, -0/+2Sounds like a real yawner to me. NBC could save even more money and be greener just by going black after 10PM. Not many would notice if the ratings are even partially true.
- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -0/+1So did ya hear this, did ya hear about this?
- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -2/+3Me too. He's alright
- Spoomeister, on 12/19/2008, -0/+1I think you meant extemporaneously.
To those of us knew the quality of the Tonight Show when it used to be hosted by Carson, Leno is always speaking extraneously. -
