- dillonish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+90LOST is just going to keep getting better and better until all of the characters spontaneously combust.
- openyoureyes17, on 10/12/2007, -12/+83creepy
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -6/+74i'm always incredibly skeptical of this kind of stuff actually being there, but i clearly hear it. however, there is so much evidence that says backmasking and other subliminal messaging is absolute crockery. this was probably just an easter egg to get the blogosphere yapping and giving free advertising for lost.
- blazen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+69I think the daily quota of the word "creepy" has been used by this one story.
- jtei, on 10/12/2007, -3/+62Here is the original video playing it forwards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qONMiSKycfQ
- DiggityDooPoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+50I know I listened to it late last night and it spooked the hell out of me.Looks like their might be some time shift theory going on with Lost?
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -1/+42Yeah, I also thought it would remind you of A Clockwork Orange.
- notninja, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43is it just me or does this scene remind me of A Clock Work Orange?
- ummcordell, on 02/03/2009, -0/+30I like how the room number is '23'.
- xioner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28eh, one of them already did ;-)
Don't shake sweating dynamite while you lecture on how to handle it safely. - conman16x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26'Fools are enslaved by time and space' is a buddhist thing.

Part IV, 3rd paragraph
"The wise know how to use time and space perfectly; they lead free and harmonious lives. Fools are enslaved by time and space; they are busy running around all day. Wise or foolish, the difference is obvious. There is an ancient fable called "Marking the boat to look for a sword" which illustrates what happens when one is ignorant of time and space. In the country of Ch'u, a man was crossing a river on a ferry. In the middle of the river, he accidentally dropped his sword. Everybody urged him to dive into the water to recover the sword. He was not worried but leisurely made a mark on the boat. He was quite proud of himself and replied confidently, "My sword fell down from here. When the boat stops, I will dive for my sword from here. Why worry?" Others told him that as both the boat and water were moving, it would be impossible for his sword to follow the boat in step. When time passed and space changed, his sword could not be retrieved. He did not listen. When the boat finally docked, he started looking for the sword beneath the spot he had marked on the boat. Do you suppose that he succeeded in retrieving his sword?
Of course not, it was the wrong time and space." - glasgowm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Wow that was actually really clear, I thought it was going to be a longshot
From the comments;

"The wise know how to use time and space perfectly; they lead free and harmonious lives. Fools are enslaved by time and space; they are busy running around all day. Wise or foolish, the difference is obvious." - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29I actually have a download of the episode.
I threw it onto a timeline in an editor and listened to it. Unless that mix is from a multichannel version, it's been enhanced, and is faked.
When you listen to what I've downloaded, you will hear a woman's voice repeat a message a few times and the ONLY parts that come out as legible are: "Only fools are enslaved" the woman's audio always drops out before the "to time and space" portion heard in the link at the top of the article.
Also another reason why I believe it's fake, is if you sync up the audio from YouTube and the video playback, the clip begins (backwards of course) when Sawyer is dragging Karl over his shoulder talking and you hear the violin music cue. Played backwards from there to them arriving at Karl's door, there's a scene where they're examining Karl and Alex pulls the needle from his arm. In the YouTube clip, this is the most vocal and obvious of the faked enhancements as you can clearly hear the entire message in the link above at this time.
In the episode, you will not hear this final "Only fools are enslaved to time and space" at this point. You only hear faint snatches of it prior to that, and again, "time and space" are never heard.
Anyone else care to doubly confirm this? - Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -4/+25The producers have said it will only be 5 seasons long and it's all planned out.
- ace87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I didn't expect it to be that creepy, Lost just keeps on getting better and better!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19@ ohthehumanity : Funny how you bury it as innacurate and say that you didn't see the original in the same post. yes we cleary hear a backyard sound in the original. So I'm burying you as being lazy.
Who conclude that something is innacurate without checking the basic facts anyway... - Ender008, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Despite badly wanting to know how it ends, I hope it doesn't wrap up for a good while. Lost is probably my favorite show out there right now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15wow..does anybody remember the same thing they did with Walt in season 2 opener. Shannon sees an illusion of walt where he is whispering something. when u played it backwards he was saying "press the button. no button's bad". at that time we didnt know about the number entering routine inside the hatch and this gave a clue about something related to "button pressing". sounds like we may have something related to "time and space" now...
Lost is back !! - johnpaul191, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18@djlosch
don't you think a TON of the show is about hiding these secret little things and building hype? getting clues on your cellphone or if you have the right credit card? people have fun with it, but the show is carefully orchestrated so that you can still enjoy it without devoting all that time and effort. that makes me think that the clues will just run you in circles. it can be fun to connect the dots and theorize, but i don't think the bonus stuff is ever *really* going to reveal anything they don't want to let out.
it is a great use of multiple forms of media. though not geared this way, could you imagine if there was prolific internet deployment while Twin Peaks was on the air? i'll be the show's ratings would have been huge. this show is obviously geared towards taking advantage of all that is available (good for them!). they shoot stuff specifically for the DVDs, have tons of online content, as well as all the bonus stuff that they wrap up with promotions of a product or service. - Eleo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"So who watches all the lost episodes backwards? I will pay you to do my taxes if you have that much free time and are that smart with technology"
There are people devoted to finding hidden audio in the show. I think some of they stuff they do is lunacy (they think the monster noises, when slowed down, reversed, etc, are actually people talking -- I can't hear it for the life of me). Although some of the stuff they do seems to make enough sense, like figuring out what the whispers are. - rauz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14For some reason the page doesn't load correctly in my Firefox, might be AdBlock Plus, RIP or something so here's the direct link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwWhM8Xb_oQ - bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Is it me, or did YouTube run out of bandwidth since last night?
- TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Ok, so its a training ground to turn people into Hiro Nakamora so they can contain the impending electromagnetic disaster.
- nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Once an episode had aired, there is no need to mark spoilers.
- zzz@tkz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12...so what you're saying is you won't do it for me.
- mga911, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12and its cooky, mysterious and spooky, it's altogether ooky
- mark101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10its simple enough to record the original audio from youtube(make it a wav file), You then open up "All Programs">"Accessories">"Entertainment">"Sound recorder" and open the saved file in there. Listen to it once to see if its there then do "Effects" and pick "Reverse". Listen and save it.
- sdub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Mittelos Bioscience --- Mittelos is an anagram for "lost time"
- kumicho, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14people should be aware of this:
the entire site implies that they're writing about buddhism and dharma, but these are all commentaries by different people... for example, the citation in glasgowm's post are actually the words of a Chinese philosopher/poet, not the words of the buddha
the reason why it's important is that there's a huge difference between the buddha's words and the words of philosophers and poets.
people will be led to doubt and confusion if they mistake a commentary on the buddha's words, for the words of the buddha
you can dig this down if you like, but if you have to dig this down then you're probably not who this is intended for :] - decruncher, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11creepy, but true
- surfmadpig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9lynch's use of reversed speech & sound in general is brilliant.
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10This is clearly derivative of the backmasking on Electric Light Orchestra's "Fire On High:"
"The music is reversible but time is not. Turn back, turn back, turn back..."
But then again nearly everything on Lost can be traced back to the ELO story, music, and lyrics. They were so far ahead of their time. The black smoke monster represents long time ELO drummer Bev Bevan, that's all I'm going to say. You figure it out from there.
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Well, it definitely supports the idea that they're in some sort of time and space warp.
- Surreal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"I'm calling BS on this one. I didn't really hear the original version played forward , but you would hear some serious backwards sounding talk playing forward. That womans voice was very clear, so you would hear a very clear and distinct backwards sounding voice in the original version.
buried inaccurate."
Actually, you can clearly here a woman's voice echoing and billowing throughout the actual video played forwards. So, you have been buried as inaccurate. - theokandroid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Lost has gotten so cool again. This makes me a happy panda... or polar bear.
- sergeantmudd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's also fun and interesting. Get over the fact that people like things you don't.
- hobbsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Re: spoilers
A good proportion of Digg/Lost fans are from the UK.
That episode doesn't air until tomorrow night on Sky One
(Although I'm sure the die hards have already downloaded it) - dpittman42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Not a huge LOST geek, but I used to do audio editing. It is pretty clear in you want to try it yourself. Clip before they open the door to right before they speak leaving. Reverse the clip, time expand it an extra 20% and then listen. I like how you can hear at the very end "I am Yemi". creepy...
- mikeyeah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I just pooped my pants.
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's like the 60s all over again. Except we don't have records to spin backwards by hand.
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13"I'm calling BS on this one. I didn't really hear the original version played forward , but you would hear some serious backwards sounding talk playing forward."
Before digging ohthehumanity down, has anyone else tried reversing the audio? I've tried it myself now from jtei's YouTube link and I don't hear anything.. I'm not saying it's a fake, maybe I did it wrong, but I just did a straight Reverse in Audacity. - surfmadpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's a very interesting finding. there certainly is a time theme in lost. time reversal, manipulation, whatever - it's still rather unclear. kudos to the submitter & the original blogger.
- OisinT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7apparently i'm the only retarded one that can't find the link on that site. which picture is it in the vertical column?
- adamh227, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't understand why people complain about this. They don't show any more commercials than ever have, or any more commercials than any other show on televesion. Each show is 42 minutes which is standard for network TV.
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I litened to my recordding from Wednesday. "Only fools are enslaved" is absolutely there. I played back my own copy a few times. no doubt. The problem comes with the "by time and space" part, it's questionable. I can see how it could be heard, but it's not definate. I am working to try and clean up the audio so it is easier to hear, once I get it as best as I can, I'll post it on YouTube and link it on here.
- adamchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6is that ms. clugh ( or clue or clew or whatever)?
- diggware, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11That's just awesome. This confirms the time and space theory, too:
http://digg.com/television/The_Physics_of_LOST - splendid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@dvddesign. I have just reversed the audio myself. I CAN make out "in time and space" but later on in the sample (or earlier if playing forward). It's the male (or lower frequency) voice where I can clearly hear the whole "Only fools are enslaved by time and space".
Link: http://www.kempson.org/random/lost-reverse.mp3 - SilentHill2009, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yikes!
- MewTwo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yeah, what kind of LOST fan are you who hasn't seen that ***** episode already?
