- feshmania, on 06/17/2009, -0/+37Wait, Twitter and Facebook might not be reliable news sources?
It's like the Daily Show took my world and turned it right upside down. - irfanmp, on 06/17/2009, -1/+35Canadian mirror: http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/the-daily-show-wi ...

you can't have it both ways people.
I love the daily show and I do think it's a great source of news but occasionally they do poke fun at topics just because they're funny and not because it's something that is actually wrong and needs to be mocked. Foreign journalists now aren't allowed to leave their hotel rooms so unless you want to actually put up with the news blackout that Iran wants then I think we should support CNN seeking out alternative sources of information. - ml4rocky, on 06/17/2009, -2/+21I need a real smile. It's been a tough morning. The fake news of The daily Show is more honest recently than the serious news programs. Go, Jon, Go, Stephen.
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -1/+16Wait, the Daily show isn't a real news program?????
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -2/+13It's not just Iran - over the past few months, CNN has become crazy for Twitter and Facebook. It's an embarrassing attempt to appear hip. Now I can understand following Twitter for coverage of the situation in Iran right now, but for *****'s sake man, it's gotten out of control. It's like, you've got Fox News which spins to the right, MSNBC which spins to the left, and CNN, which just spins in circles trying to be cool. They've become the MTV of cable news.
- Schmich, on 06/17/2009, -2/+121 Girl 12 Cups?
Imagine what a girl with fast hands like that could do to you! :O - orion846, on 06/17/2009, -6/+14so they're damned if they don't report (which i think by now, anyone here who isn't brainwashed into digg groupthink realized, they have been). and since their reporters are as of tuesday, banned from reporting or recording the protests, they use the only thing that's left, and they're damned with yall for that too? aren't the same people bashing CNN this last week the ones touting twitter's role in this thing? but CNN still sucks for using twitter? i'm confused, can someone who's dugg all the anti-CNN and anti-iran-pro-twitter threads explain this?
- SoCalCove, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7No, its just an honest one.
- FlyinRyan89, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7it is now
- TheHungerArtist, on 06/18/2009, -2/+8go ahead just ***** invite pedobear to the party.
- Spyder2k, on 06/18/2009, -0/+5I disagree with Jon on this one. CNN has recognized that coverage of the Iranian election is still relevant and is using the only means it has to further disseminate information.
- Napiertt, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4I disagree as well. No media organizations can film freely in Iran, or move around to collect first hand material. A lot of the reporting is based on what's being provided by Iranians who can post stuff online through various services: YouTube, Twitter and Facebook being prime examples. For the most part I think they're just tools for idiots and narcissists. However the CAN be used for more serious purposes as this event has shown (doesn't change the fact that 99.999% of what's on there is complete crap however).
This is no different from someone smuggling a photograph or letter from behind the Iron Curtain in the Cold War days. As long as CNN offers the disclaimer that they're unable to verify the authenticity, there is nothing wrong in showing these clips or accounts. Given the reporting restrictions currently in Iran, these first hand snippets are very valuable, (especially the video clips) No matter what lame-ass site they came from. - Slybri, on 06/18/2009, -0/+4There's an Iranian revolution going on, the economy is in the toilet, there's TWO wars our soldiers are dying in, and yet CNN spends all night talking about the Jonas Brothers or American Idol. WTF? Where's my news?
"Entertainment news" is an oxymoron. - inactive, on 06/18/2009, -1/+5http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/index.jh ... Skip it to 4:00
Fox is retarded and "reports" only on conservative opinions while attacking the left; all the *BC networks (ABC, NBC, MSNBC....) "report" a bunch of left opinions and abuses the right; CNN is desperate as hell to get noticed with Twitter, Blogs, Email, IM, texting, Facebook, Myspace, and all the other pointless *****. BTW, popular =/= useful. Sadly, I get my news from NPR, Daily Show, and Colbert Report and actual news stations from outside the US to know what's going on here.
Bottom line: NPR is win. - FlyinRyan89, on 06/18/2009, -1/+4This is NOT a Burger King....
- MSUKate, on 06/18/2009, -4/+7Oh CNN I love how you are making yourself more irrelevant every day.
- _skin_, on 06/18/2009, -0/+3I always wondered why in the world any one would want to stack cups, let alone video tape it. Now I know, and it was specifically to make me laugh at the end of John's clip.
- rhythmchanges, on 06/18/2009, -2/+5Mostly because it is called "the news" as opposed to "the hear-say?"
- OutlawSundown, on 06/18/2009, -3/+6
CNN is seriously a joke now... they used to be the go to for situations like this now they've turned into a bunch of worthless anchors with no idea. Seriously it's time for someone to clean house over there. The two left that I'd consider worth watching are Fareed Zakaria and Christiane Amanpour. Oh and Fredricka Winfield seeing as she was pretty much the only one that gave it any serious coverage that first day or so.
CNN doesn't even seem to bother with international affairs anymore. Most of what they cover is tabloid level crap. There used to be journalists that would go get the story no matter what some bs government told them. And they wonder why they're getting slaughtered in the ratings they stopped being journalists.
Oh and seriously whatever happened to CNN presents? They used to actually do some decent journalism with that. That one where Christiane Amanpour went through Afghanistan while the Taliban were in power was top notch. Well so much for Journalism. - dronkmunk, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3Hamsterbounce.
That is all. - crossmr, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2Why would anyone care what is happening on myspace?
- ssquared22, on 06/17/2009, -2/+4Funny thing: my homepage says CNN Blows as well!
- rodrigo74, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2Here in Europe the Daily Show (Global Edition) is broadcasted by CNN. I wonder if they will keep this segment? :)
- crossmr, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2He's bashing them for suddenly putting up a disclaimer saying their news isn't fact checked. Yet what was it before? were they fact checking twitter, facebook, ireport, etc?
- Natfly, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3Exactly, insult cnn for not covering Iran elections/protests. Then insult them for using the best available sources to report it.
- crossmr, on 06/18/2009, -1/+3They're not damned if they do, and your post shows an utter lack of comprehension. They're damned for suddenly claiming that their news is otherwise the epitome of fact checking. They're using twitter and facebook now, yet suddenly claiming they can't fact check it. Well what were they doing before?
- djspiff, on 06/18/2009, -0/+2What I don't get is how The Daily Show equates the previous week's use of displaying opinions from social networking, to this week's reporting it as news. There's a huge difference between commentary and stating something as an unverified fact. I don't watch CNN (or any of the news channels), but I think they're going about it the right way.
- offrdbandit, on 06/18/2009, -1/+2"what is it exactly that you want CNN to do that you think they're not doing, that would make you approve of their actions?"
Was that supposed to make sense? - traviswood, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Welcome to every day of my ***** Canadian life.
Sidenote. I'm surfing Digg on my tethered iPhone. - joshmoney, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Speaking of Network, TYT did an interesting story about the part social networking played in the Iranian election protest and the the video they show of the entire city shouting from their rooftops gave me chills and reminded of that infamous "mad as hell" scene from the movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekK1t7dMk94 - jessemoya, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1Wow.
- RatatRatR, on 06/18/2009, -1/+2Yes, and in fact, it wasn't that hard to glean that from the Jon Stewart clip, if you watched the whole thing.
- TwilightMadness, on 10/16/2009, -0/+1"I don't watch CNN (or any of the news channels), but I think they're going about it the right way."
If you don't watch it how do you know? :P - jessemoya, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Protip: if kyloe's comment makes no sense to you, run at full speed into a brick wall and then try it again. It works!
- deathweaver108, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1comedy is a departure from misery, not the truth
- EhBlueDuck, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1The US video wasn't working, so I try the Canadian mirror and this is what I get ...
'Sorry, the video you are trying to watch is not available in your region.'
http://www.sadtrombone.com - orion846, on 06/18/2009, -2/+3what is it exactly that you want CNN to do that you think they're not doing, that would make you approve of their actions?
- drunkentomtom, on 06/18/2009, -2/+3Who seriously watches news networks anymore anyways? Seems like a waste of time...
- Zaetha, on 06/18/2009, -1/+2It's a very odd thing to say for me being such a fan of The Daily Shoy and Jon, but I think they misfired this time on the social sites issue, confusing news with opinion.
CNN recently allowed YouTube, Twitter and Facebook users to comment and share their opinion on TV in order to have an immediate feedback after they show their news. That's what those are, opinions, and not facts. You can twist the meaning, you can be just plain wrong, and you can be retarded. But nobody can say you don“t actually believe those things. The poster's mind can be really twisted, wrong and/or retarded.
On the other hand, we have the news. The news. The backbone of the show, where the real journalism lies, is being denied by a blockade. Now they have resorted to fill that void with the same source as their opinions, with all their pros (availability) and cons (accuracy). News is serious business, that's why they correctly decided to show that disclaimer. - Schmich, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1haha omg, I never actually paid attention to the girl herself...had no idea she was so young >_<
- technetix, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1It's like when your dad starts watching Family Guy and telling Chuck Norris facts to try and connect with you.
- JP42, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Not sure why you're getting dugg down. It *is* a waste of time. The only time I see network news is on shows that mock network news.
- kyloe, on 06/20/2009, -0/+0Someone likes to think they know something someone else may not know; by carefully reading what another somebody wrote into subliminal.
That same someone would like an ego trip by having someone else comply to their ploy of egotism.
But I know that this same someone will enjoy reading this, until the time it takes for all of it to dawn upon such a simple ego. - bonofosho, on 06/18/2009, -0/+0If CNN was being bashed for being behind twitter on its Iran coverage, then how could it ever hope to get ahead of Twitter by using Twitter? At best it could match twitter, and at worst it could lose creditability and relevance by trying to incorporate Fad-Social sites into real world issues.
A good reporter would track down a twitter user with relevant information, conduct an interview and verify the information. CNN in a rush to beat other news networks to stories has skipped all the work that goes along with reporting and has begun shoveling out crap information requiring disclaimers. -
