- Mc_Carter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+53Is he going to raise questions and then leave us hanging till he directs an episode in three years.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33"Okay, so here's the pitch: The Office Movie. Same characters as the original show, but with a CGI dragon, and instead of working in an actual office, they're pirate assassins from the future who ACT as if they work in an office. We'll re-cast everyone. Also give it a really gritty colour treatment and a blasting heavy metal soundtrack. The fans will love it. Pay me."
- MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34No, but I hear that Jim learns Michael Scott is his real father.
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33It's The Office, you'd have to be Uwe Boll to ***** it up.
(please don't hit me) - raynar, on 10/12/2007, -11/+39He also wrote the 'Felicity' pilot. Not a genius.
- tconnect80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Will Jim have a mysterious tattoo in this episode that everyone really cares about and really wants to know where it came from because it is completely relevant to abso-*****-lutely everything?
- themarq, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19"directed" =! "wrote the script for"
- itsscience, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17The blogger that wrote this refers to himself as "the herc". What a loser.
- verifex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Shut up all of you, I like to pretend The Office is a reality show!
- StellarlyAstral, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Since when was writing and producing Felicity a positive thing?
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"He also wrote the 'Felicity' pilot. Not a genius."
To me, Felicity was just another soapy show with pretty people driveling on about how horrible their lives were. (read: it sucked)
To my wife, Felicity was the best thing to hit TV since 90210. /me *pukes*
To the female demographic, Felicity is genius. - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11He also directed Mission Impossible 3...
- diggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Let me know when the Coen Brothers direct an episode.
- fr3nch13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Super Mario Brothers.
- brnews, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14or 'Alias' for that matter.. I think he meant that the guy is a genius for earning millions of bucks selling crap
- nihility, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10You mean Dwight?
- cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Ohh who gives a ***** if you only watch Poker. You must be one boring son of a bitch. Seinfeld was a great show, and yes, there's lots of BAD TV. But there's also a lot of GOOD TV. Just because they don't always play ... ***** poker all day, doesn't mean TV sucks.
You should just go return the TV, buy more iPods, and shut up. You admit that you haven't watched any TV since the early 90's so how can you tell us that TV sucks 15 years later? Dip *****. - btgoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Farrelly Brothers
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I've never heard of you, which means you're obviously insignificant. My opinion is the only one that counts, after all.
- fr3nch13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I agree. Sorry if this is off topic. Lost is becoming absolutely pointless lately. I thought with all of that time off they could come up with something good.
Here's a recap of last nights episode:
Jack changes jail cells.
Kate and Sawyer talk, kid leaves.
FLASHBACK: Jack meets chick, he gets tattoo (WOW that was exciting!)
The end.
Sorry if I'm missing anything I fell asleep 45 mins into it. - phatt-matt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Band of Brothers.
- tconnect80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The fact that you voluntarily watch poker on TV automatically invalidates any additional opinion you have on the medium.
OOOO a ***** pair of aces this is ***** exciting! ALL IN!! NO WAYZ HE WENTZ ALL IN!!!111!1! - kenhigginson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Maybe I just don't know enough about movies and television, but how does a guy who "wrote" other shows equate to making this one better by "directing" it?
...and how hard is it to direct The Office? 1/3rd of the show is an actor sitting in a chair talking straight to the camera. You don't need to be Spielberg to do that. - ipodsweatshop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"J.J. Abrams is a TV god. Abrams wrote and produced the “Felicity” pilot. He wrote and directed the “Alias” pilot. He co-wrote and directed the “Lost” pilot. Why shouldn't this be awesome too?"
I think you just answered your question with three facts. This shouldn't be awesome because he had anything to do with Lost, Felicity or Alias. TV drama crap for dumb people. - rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Called on the phone for the Colbert Report.
He thought he was the guy who said "Dyno-Mite!"
I was amused. - cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7If you actually watched either show, you'd see that the US version of "The Office" is a lot different then the UK version. Quite a bit different.
And don't go saying the US "always screws things up" because of three shows. You do realize there's more TV then three shows, yes? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The Office is on tonight. That's all that matters.
- jflint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5How can having a different director really affect The Office. I didn't really notice anything different between last weeks episode that Joss Whedon directed and all the others I have seen.
Maybe they should get Ken Burns to direct an episode, then it could be shots of sepia-tone images slowly panning across the screen while the dialog is read in the background by a monotonous voice.
/Love The Office, btw - bravecoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The tattoos came from the fans asking where did jack's tatoos came from.
Definitely the worst episode IMO. - MaximegalonInfo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The real question should be: Can there be a useless reference to Heroes in it to get the nerds on Digg excited?
- evilelf2407, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4is this the guy that was on the daily show or the colbert report (not sure which one) the other day? i remember someone with this name on there...
- MrVandemar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@cbreaker
it is not just these 3 shows, take a look at every "imported" show the U.S. has attempted to do. Almost with out fail the U.S. version pales in comparison. I just mentioned a few of the worst offenders. U.S. hasn't really done any better with its remakes of British films either, The Italian Job being one of the largest travesties I've seen. - andreascliment, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I find it a bit amusing that JJ has time to direct an episode of The Office but hasn't had time to direct any recent episodes of Lost even though he said that he wanted to.
- skaughtm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4smothers brothers.
- colouredlights, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3!= != =!
- UltraMegaFilms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Umm according to his credentials, J.J. Abrams sounds like an ass. Felicity? Lost? ALIAS?!? I call "Alias" "The Crappy Techno Action Sequence Show". Its a bunch of shots with that lame as dame looking around all stealth like set to crappy techno music. This guy is going to have to rub both of his I.Q. points together to make a decent Office. I hope he doesn't dong it up.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That's what I was going to comment on. He refers to himself over and over in the 3rd person as 'herc'.
Herc didn't like this, or herc didn't like that. Will herc tune in? Herc says yes.
So annoying. - mrmcbastard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4J.J. Abrams wrote Jesus into existence! That guy is a genius! So awesome! He makes my head explode with his miracles!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!one!!!!!!!
- UltraMegaFilms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2haha slam cut, that is such a lame term. I am a filmmaker, and that term makes my penis soft.
- trimpton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That doesn't make him a genius just mean the american public is used of watching trash.
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The first season of the US series (six episodes like UK series which only had six episodes a season I believe) was very similar to the UK series and borrowed many plotlines from it. After that, the actors (especially Steve Carell), stopped acting their character like their UK counterpart and started fleshing out the character as their own. The US show is very different now from its first season and UK series. I've seen every episode of both series and also find the US series so much easier to watch as the boss isn't a complete fool embarrassing himself to the extreme every 10 minutes (though granted, the wedding episode recently reminded me a lot of David Brent). Though both series are excellent and I would recommend them both to a fan of The Office as together they give you a great sense of the series as a whole.
- jcounterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ginger on Gilligan's Island?
- BrownV, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6"Abrams wrote and produced the “Felicity” pilot. He wrote and directed the “Alias” pilot. He co-wrote and directed the “Lost” pilot. Why shouldn't this be awesome too?"
For all three of those reasons I now hate him. All three of those shows are horrible television. - Jesse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not a big fan of these guest directors as much as I am about guest writers. Ricky Gervais' and Stephen Merchant's episode this season... comedy gold.
- Gizza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2J.J. Abrams writes with no goal in mind. We saw it in Alias and we're seeing it in Lost. Alias was great for the first couple of seasons, and then kinda went no where and then did an absolute horrible wrap up in the last few episodes before getting canned. Same thing is happening with lost.
- zombiedepot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Directing a bunch of crappy shows makes you a TV god?
- Jiggernaut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No, that's the Wachowski brothers....
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2People like the show and a lot of good directors have been taking their turns at it. What part don't you get?
- tconnect80, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The other two things you mentioned aside, after the 1st season and maybe half the 2nd season, the American version of the office has gone it's own seperate way. Completely. Yes the characters are patterened after the British version but every actor has made that character their own. Despite the fact that they are both considered the office moron, Dwight is 100x different than Gareth. Michael Scott is completely different than David Brent, even inasmuch as he's a halfway competent boss, not a complete failure like Gervais' character is. Jim and Tim both pull pranks on Dwight/Gareth and are in love with Pam/Dawn but that is where the similarities end. Martin Freeman did a fantastic job in his role and John Krasinksi has done an equally amazing job at acting out a unique, engaging character. Give the show a chance because if you liked the British version, I can almost guarantee you you'll like the American one. You might not like it better, but you will enjoy it.
