- fiver22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18*sigh* there was a time when the mere mention of Star Trek would illicit a frenzy of Diggs... and for those of you who thought that that was bad: now all we get to see are stories about great wallpaper sites. I for one long for the days when Trekkers and their ilk ruled digg.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hello. I'm Leonard Nimoy. The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true, I mean false. It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is no.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6She packed by bag last night, preflight
Zero hour, nine a.m.
And I'm gonna be high
As a kite by then
I miss the earth so much
I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight
And I think it's gonna be a long, long, time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Ah, no no no...
I'm a rocket man - Shirk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8No offense to the Star Trek lovers, but haven't there been hundreds of "Specials" about Star Trek on pretty much every network already? How much is there left to tell?
- aliengoods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They should show the documentary Trekkies along with it. Both hilarious and scary.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@Mindris: And your mommy is for me.
@fiver22: Paramount must start to move NOW if they want the franchise not to decay into oblivion. Sad but true... :-( - Alfdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't accept this as being true, since Will Wheaton hasn't dugg it yet
- ThunderIT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@naio21: Paramount is working on the next Star Trek movie already, there was a story about it on Digg not that long ago
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Well, who wants to digg an inaccurate description? "four spinoff series"!
I don't care how weird it was to get used to Sam Beckett as a starship captain. It still counts! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"The History Channel will air a documentary narrated by Leonard Nimoy (Spock) next month about the Star Trek phenomenon. Produced to celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary, "Star Trek: Beyond the Final Frontier" features interviews with many of the stars and crew from the four spinoff series, at look at the fandom, and its cultural impact"
Am I the only one who remebers "How William Shatner Changed the World". That only aired several months ago, and now I need to be reminded again about Star Trek's impact? - ericrous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Until we have a special detailing every single crap that William Shatner took during the filming of the original series and films, WE WILL NOT KNOW THE WHOLE TALE!
- ericrous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There have been FIVE spinoff series. You guys are forgetting the animated series.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to not have sex with a girl! - Dustyb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"History Channel To Air Special on Star Trek"
And then three times every day after the first airing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is there a klingon word for loneliness?
Contrary to The SImpsons, no, there isn't. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't agree with you. I've been watching ST since, say, when I was 6 years old (now I'm 37) and ENT is #1 for me.
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Star Trek isn't just a show, its a philosophy.
- RKnight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Being a long-time Trek fan and enjoying everything that came before the ill-fated Enterprise, and the disappointment of the last few movies, I feel that Paramount and the people in charge of what’s left of the franchise really are missing the entire point. Its a shame such an icon as Star Trek is now the shame of the Sci-Fi industry. I miss the glory days, when you could catch 2 new Treks on Saturday nights, watch re-runs of TOS during the day and know that in its hay-day, TNG was Fox's biggest show. Now on the cusp of a new movie idea that they trashed in '91 (this new young Kirk & Spock idea was a concept for ST: VI), and I don't think anyone really wants, and constantly making movies and shows to draw non-fans in, with this "Trek fans will watch and buy anything so you know you have their ticket no matter the concept"... I look at the future in disappointment.
It'll be nice to look back on those good 'ole days, and remember how much of a part of my childhood and life it is. - Ystig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My concern at this point regarding the franchise, as a trekkie who watched Trek through each of its incarnations, is that, increasingly, there's a generation of geeks who grew up without any really worthwhile Star Trek. TOS and TNG were both tremendously successful at introducing fans to the franchise. DS9 was worthwhile in my opinion, but I questioned its ability to turn people into avowed trekkies the way its predecessors did. And then...I almost feel bad for anyone who ended up a trekkie by virtue of watching Voyager (was that the best sci fi they could find?). Finally, if any substantive number among the youth of today got into the franchise through Enterprise...yeesh.
An associated concern is that, for virtually all of the duration of Voyager and Enterprise, most of the Star Trek fans I know were far more interested in watching TOS and TNG reruns (if they hadn't abandoned trek altogether for BSG or B5) than in watching the ongoing series. Ah well, if Trek's dead to the present, all the better that the gospel of treks of days past be spread. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Radscott, my comment is a nerd detection comment. If you don't immediately get it, you're not nerd enough.
For those of you that didn't realize I was joking about TAS > ENT, go sit down and read a big thick sci-fi book. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Honestly, it's time for another 20+ year hiatus from creating any Star Trek movies/shows/etc... And then start it up again.
- niardica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1naio21: the franchise inst going to go anywhere soon.. there are some freaks who speak Klingon and know every planet in the star system.. I doubt those people are going to give up these valuable skills any time soon.
- bgeipel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, the final season of Enterprise was very good. They seemed to realize that they should make Trek for Trek fans.
I for one am hoping for a BSG style reboot for Star Trek XI. Looks like we may get it based on the movie posters. - Waterrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 No your not. I recall the History channel showing this twice...I also like how it was explained as to why the series died and who got the blame.
- aMeta4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Cant wait to download the torrent of this....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I already saw this when it was called "How William Shatner Changed the World". Ironically enough, it too aired on the History Channel. Mere months ago, in fact.
- ericrous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If Twin Peaks can take a 25-year hiatus, then Trek can take a 20-year one.
Thank God, 2015 is only 8 years away now! - RKnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ h00paj00
20 Years may be a bit much, but I do agree they need to hold off on it for a while. Then come back in a blaze of glory with the grandeur it deserves. - Radscott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Software2
What are you talking about? TNG+DS9+Voyager+Enterprise=4
Or are you counting the animated series, too? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think the idea this time is to not let people forget about ST, specially during the franchise's 40th anniversary. It simply can't pass unnoticed.
- d17182, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wow, it's amazing the History Channel is ballsy enough to take on heavy subjects like pop culture, not wasting their time with meaningless trivia like the history of the income tax.
- JohnnyZito, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not trying to spam. I'm just on a trek kick today.
I submitted this earlier. Its an image from this weeks remastered ep of ST: TOS

You don't have to digg it, it'll never make the main page. But any trek fan would want to see it. - LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2(Insert William Shatner's SNL Star Trek tirade here.)
:p - Sky0001000, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I'll just be honest here.. i didn't read the article - but I've already seen that program .. it's actually pretty good... it doesn't offend in the original star trek in any way.. and it only does the show justice.
It talks about the ways that the creators of the show impacted the tech world.
It talks about they 'faked' doors opening automatically.. etc.. and how they are now reality.
It tells about how star trek is one of the longest running series on television, and one of the most respected.
It's the history channel, you know it's good. just shut-up and watch it. - Sky0001000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0then again - maybe i'm crazy - and i saw something like it - on the hist channel.. hmmmmm... me thinks..
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Still trying to milk that dead cow? Put that along with the new Beatles collection and the re-re-release Star Wars box set.
- mklopez, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Via TrekToday:
http://www.trektoday.com/news/100107_01.shtml - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1#EmmCee: I was just about to say the same thing.
The History Channel has kinda left their "History" in the dust and is going down the road of pseudo-history and possibly even conspiracy theories as history.
It's a shame. - EmmSee, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3I love the History Channel... but this has made me lose a little respect for them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -29/+3No, Star Trek is for fags
