- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Love the show, have high hopes for Monday night. Pacing has been good, unlike Lost as of late, and the actors are likable for the most part.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23yea seriously.. the last episode answered more questions than lost did in it's first season.

Did you see the last episode, Captain Negative?
In fact, have you ever watched one? - Roger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20@SmokeyB
Sounds more like you're describing Lost. - MikeWeller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15As a brit let me just say that you Americans have some of the best shows on tv. Lost, 24, Prison Break, Battlestar Galactica, Heroes.... I'm just amazed at how you can produce this stuff. The writing, acting, it's all amazing.
All we in the UK can offer is crappy low budget bad acting ***** costume bad jokes bad story crap like Robin hood.... I'm ashamed. - bcardarella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I agree, Heroes is good but with today's audiences it seems to be in a networks best interest to keep the viewers continuously engaged. They run the risk of losing viewers with these hiatuses.
But from what I understand about Heroes only a certain number of episodes were shot. Maybe the hiatus reflects NBC picking up the show and the time necessary to produce more shows? - meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13US dramas > UK Dramas
UK comedy > US comedy
Oh and BBC > FOX :) - LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I really wish tv shows didn't have to end every episode with a cliffhanger. I love this show more than any other show on TV right now but god damit if I don't get exhausted to death of all these cliffhangers every episode.
The only episode that will ever have a conclusion will be the final episode in the series at this rate - which may be a few years off depending on how they spin this show.
I might end up ignoring the show next year and waiting for season box-sets to come out. I watched season 1 of lost and it was much less frustrating to watch all episodes back-to-back and then just have 1 cliffhanger at the end of the season, rather than watching week-to-week and having 12+ cliffhangers. - antipower187, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Noooo!!!!!!! I can't wait until next year!! This show is too amazing.
must have more episodes now! - tdkyo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I hope they don't end it like the show "John Doe".
- kingamoon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13"and the actors are likable for the most part."
For the most part indeed. I like all of them except the Indian dude. He is so annoying and the fact that he's the narrator too is even worst. No one who grew up in India speaks with that accent.
Heroes and Day Break are my favorite new shows this season. - neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I find Lost to be one of the most frustrating shows ever. "Here, let's do plot. OK time for about 45 minutes of back story that's only tangentially related (it is character development but gets a little old after a while). OK, time for us to answer 1 question but open up 5 more. Time to end the season."
I watched the 1st season of Lost and realized that nothing happened. There were a few things that went on of course but you could have fit most of the plot in a 3 hour movie. - ninjan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9*Smacks the inventor of cliffhangers with a large piano*
- marmaduke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11@ kingamoon
Not necessarily, India was an English colony, and people who learn English well would probably speak it with an English accent. - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Most shows go into hiatus from December to January, its pretty common and has been for years. What is new is the idea of having a big mid season "cliffhanger" and advertising it as such.
- gregulate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Dude! The UK version of The Office was one of the best comedies I have ever seen, and Balls of Steel is pure ownage.
- vanq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I'm pretty sure you meant "taut" cliffhanger. Even then not a great choice of adjective.
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6taunt as in tease?
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@drlha That made me laugh for a good ten seconds mate.
- Darkness123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I have really enjoyed watching Heroes, and I cannot wait for Fallout to air.
- WarPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ive been watching Lost since the first show of the first season, the same with Heroes. I think both these shows are fantastic and they are what TV has been missing. True interactive viewing. They make you think and speculate and form theories. Lost has a huge online community that I have heard sometimes steers the writers on where the show should go.
Heroes is written and produced in a very similar way as Lost. It will go far just as Lost has.
For the naysayers and those that complain of questions not being answered....I think Will and Grace is still showing at 9PM on WB affiliates. That might be a little more to your intellect level - BRODEL, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I hate the way they do all shows now. Get started and then STOP we'll be back in 2 months!
The way they do 24 is the way to do a show, start to finish, no gaps, no repeats, nothing. Although, I think the 24 premise is wearing a bit thin, (this season will be season 6) it's the best way to keep viewers like me interested.
Heroes rocks, just sucks that they're going to do the stop gap midway through the season like "other" shows. - cazabam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If he'd meant 'taut' it would be an appalling choice of adjective. Having said that, taunt is a verb and a noun. When used as an adjective it's a nautical term meaning "tall", as in "a taunt mast".
Still, at least he didn't say it was an *AWESOME* cliffhanger :) - shlemielo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@neuropsychguy
Agreed. *cough*halo2*cough* - Gdub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm a big fan of Heroes. I didn't have high hopes for the show, but about the second or third episode in I was hooked.
The cliffhangers keep my attention. However, the last episode was a bit distracting since they didn't progress the storyline much, they just went back into the past and informed us more on the background of each character.
As for actors, I love them all except the girl with her dual-persona Jessica is kind of annoying. - Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Viewings go down around the holidays so there is no point in wasting fresh new episodes when not everyone will be watching them. I'm pretty sure they worked it out beforehand for Heroes that it was only picked up for 12 episodes so it would end on monday.. if it was a failure they would end it then, if it was a big hit they could pick it up after the holidays. So yes, this break helps them catch up on the episodes they didn't order at first.
- Gdub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4LoL @ Will & Grace
- jdstorer2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Then you would be pretty wrong. It's accredited to Mohinder.
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You have *Doctor Who* running strong. Too bad it isn't shot on HD and they made more episodes per year, but I digress... ps. Christopher Eccleston, the former (9th) Doctor is joining the cast of *Heroes* next year...
*Life on Mars* was sweet. However, way too few episodes.
And then there was *Hex*. Mmmm...Jemima Rooper...mmm...
Then you had the sleazy adult soaps with nudity like *Mile High*.
As for comedies, historically, you've had *Monty Python*, *Benny Hill*, and *Red Dwarf* and *The Office*...not bad at all.
Needless to say, British tv does not suck. If some serious money were pumped into the production along with a better equity stake for the actors and the unions got pwned, British tv could go toe-to-toe with American tv. - davecor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thank you for that - you beat me to it.
I'm caught between being a language cop and realizing that today's English will someday be an incomprehensible as Chaucer's is today.
Now... on to stopping "should of" from replacing "should have"! - orientis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3UK Drama used to be fantastic.. Seems pretty mediocre nowadays.
Where are the 'Cracker' s of today? Where The (original) Bill s? - mrsaturn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My biggest complaint in the show is the cheerleader's lame friend (the "freak"). Every time he opens his mouth you can expect to hear something ridiculously cheesy come out (i.e. "You've got to embrace your inner freak"). Apparently headphones and a black T-shirt make you extremely weird.
- FreddieD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If they kill off Hiro, you can bet that 80% of the viewers would disappear. I know I would.
- Nebbie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I loved the recent Doctor Who, low budget stuff and all. My wife just laughs at me when I watch it though.
I have tried getting into the older episodes, but I'm unable to. I want to like them but I think it's an aquired taste for someone that didn't know about the series until the last couple years. - neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I agree with you about the "mid-season" break for shows.
I think leaving shows with a big cliff-hanger is pretty obnoxious. Prison Break this season handled it well though. It didn't really leave you hanging, which I thought was a nice move. A cliff-hanger here and there isn't bad but constant ones are a sign of imperfect writing (i.e., the screenwriters and directors have to result to cliff-hangers to keep interest in the show). It's like the Shannara books. Brooks is a good author and I enjoy reading the books but I couldn't finish the entire series (of what, 18 books or so?) because I couldn't stand his: "Story 1 --> cliffhanger; story 2 --> cliffhanger; story 3 --> cliffhanger; story 2 --> cliffhanger; story 3 --> some resolution; NEXT BOOK story 3 --> cliffhanger; story 1 --> some resolution...." That gets old really quickly.
I don't need some big cliffhanger to make me want to continue watching the show - I'll watch it if it's good. In fact, cliffhangers are a turn off to me in a lot of cases because they usually are an example of poor writing (or at least story telling).
I'm not against all cliffhangers but they need to be handled very tactfully (rarely done right) and these mid-season breaks are quite annoying. - ramallama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, I only have one major problem with cliffhangers. And I'm sure you'll agree that they ...
- madscientist327, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, Niki Sanders is the one hero I really don't like. I'm sure they are going to kill off a main character eventually and I hope it is her.
- koolf00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You should really watch every episode that has been released so far. Questions have been answered ever since the pilot episode, it's all pretty much layed out already, in a very subtle way.
- Riccallo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find it slightly annoying when people badmouth British television for being low budget, there's a REASON for it. None of the BBC channels have adverts, thus eliminating a large source of revenue- people complain about the price of the license fee but when you add it all up it really does pale in comparison to the amount American networkds draw from advertising.
Even UK channels that do have ad breaks (ITV, Sky channels) have less ad breaks than their American counterparts. Generally speaking American networks seem to have 3 sets of add breaks per 20-25 minutes of tv show. To me that's too much.
Over here (Britian) we actually have a couple of domestic versions of American channels (FX, ABC 1) which conform to the standard US formula of show Vs ad break and no offence, but they are really, really annoying to watch. The constant stopping and starting of a show to make way for adverts just annoys the crap out of me. I have a feeling that British viewers, having grown up with the BBC just have a lower tolerance for ads interupting out shows. - shuichi1985, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1davecor:
I've never seen anyone use "should of" instead of "should have". When talking I use "should've", I don't know if thats even a real word actually, when someone says it, it does sound like "should of", if someone started actually writing that way, then yes, it is very sad, and you should continue to fight the good fight. - rand21althor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Darn, I won't be able to watch this, tonight. It is on right now, actually. At least I'll be able to watch it this Friday evening on Sci Fi.
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Re: Cliffhangers.
I think TV series producers over-use them as a cheap way to keep viewers hooked. But I strongly feel the better (and more creative) strategy is to resolve almost everything in a season finale. Then they should treat the next season as a "sequel" to the previous one.
Joss Whedon did this with the first season of Buffy. (He didn't anticipate his show getting renewed for a second season, so he pretty much wrapped things up. And yet fans were still highly anticipating its second season.) I wish more producers of these serialized dramas on the air today would do this, instead of laming out with cliffhangers. (I'm looking at LOST, in particular.) You can pretty much assume that the season finales of LOST, Heroes, Veronica Mars, Prison Break, et al are all going to be cliffhangers.
Overusing cliffhangers is, simply, a sign of bad, lazy storytelling. - virtue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The WB is no longer. You must be referring to CW affiliates ;)
- zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh whew. I thought they were talking about "Higglytown Heroes" on disney. There's no way my 5-year old could have handled the suspense
- hardwareguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tivos, PVRs Armed And Ready
- tcquad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I disagree that it didn't answer many questions. It showed what happened to Hiro and why Charlie was still dead. It set the limits for his power (and, by extension, showed that other's powers have limits as well). Most importantly, it basically laid the groundwork for the reason behind "save the cheerleader, save the future". Syler is a maniacal superbeing who takes the brains and powers of heroes. He took the brain of someone with an impending aneurism. He then went after someone with healing ability. Had he gotten Claire's powers, he's super-powered and unstoppable. Now, he's not only still beatable but vulnerable.
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ Nebbie Low-budget is part of the charm of Doctor Who. Do you recall the first episode of the new ones? The mannequins? That was basically paying respect to the Doctor Who of yore, which had ridiculously poor effects, e.g the sucker on the daleks is a frackin toilet plunger.
Despite poor effects the original episodes were still captivating - and quite scary at times too. The new ones have a great feel to them - they're fun and the new Doctors are well cast. They don't have the emotional effect of the old ones though. Plus they're all set on Terra which pisses me off a bit. I want to see an episode where the only humans are the Doctor and his companion. - ngageguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just watched all the episodes this weekend. I really hope people will forget trying to figure out what is going to happen to the point of insanity, it could go anywhere. Just watch and enjoy for what it is. Lost+X-Men+4400
- Alchemeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1***** cliffhangers.
