- LemonHerb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41How about they start running shows every year instead of taking a year off between seasons so they can build steam, and not cancel Rome.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28agreed. rome is a great show. nothing can replace sopranos though, that show was something special.

+1 Rome is by far my favorite show at the moment. !! - AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Yeah, I was about to say, what about Entourage? Thats quite an awesome show.
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I wish there was more Rome. Rome is the best collection of gratuitous sex and violence on TV right now. The story's pretty good too.
- kinesis8, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17It's not an simple show to watch since you have to really pay close attention to the dialog, but anyone looking for a deeply intellectual and controversial show that is up to the storytelling caliber of The Sopranos NEEDS to check out The Wire (an HBO series that is sadly underrated). The very first episode of season 1 is admittedly slow, but once you've figured out all the characters, you will not regret it.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Entourage is back on the same night as the Sopranos returns. Sunday April 8th.
(The TV forecast widget rocks BTW). - ascott9, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18entourage
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Good chance I'll dump my HBO subscription after the Sopranos run is over.
- thisdj, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21Entourage will be the next #1 hit. HBO is the best channel EVER!
- BunnieLebowski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Big Love could be the next big hit...if they would stop showing Bill Paxton's ass every week
- mattxb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16@kenisis
I hear that, I love the Sopranos, but I think the Wire is the best show on TV. The creators of the wire are making a new show for HBO about Iraq called Generation Kill, maybe it will help fill the sopranos void. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I really, really can't wait for Big Love to come on. I don't even know what the status is of the show because they don't tell anything about any future episodes.
- Satanael, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Bring back Carnivale, please.
- jonathantneal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12How about they start running shows ... like Arrested Development.
- omega95, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Omega95's plan
1. Watch last ep of The Sopranos
2. 15 minutes later cancel HBO
3. Stop referring to myself in the third person. - lieutenantmudd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I love Rome too, but frankly I prefer when networks end shows on high notes instead dragging stories on forever. True, you get less seasons to enjoy, but what you get is better.
And Rome has a natural stopping point after it tells the story of the Second Triumverate. Half the fun is hearing the classic stories of ancient Rome played out, and a famous story for a third season doesn't jump out at me.
Well, maybe if they would do a prequel of the Punic Wars... - gurp13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The Wire is great. But, if they really wanted a great show they should have renewed Deadwood which was better than The Sopranos every week.
- LuciusVorenus77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The Wire is like an in-depth autopsy of the dead corpse of America.
Bloody brilliant and one of the best things to ever come out of the medium of television.
Oh and Omar is the best gay character on TV EVER.
David Simon, the creator of The Wire, is a genius and as he said himself, the show is about how people are worth less and less every day. In America.
McNulty: "I gotta ask ya. If every time Snotboogie would grab the money and run away, why'd you even let him in the game?"
Man On Stoop: "What?"
McNulty: "If Snotboogie always stole the money, why'd you let him play?"
Man On Stoop: "Got to. This America, man." - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10The Wire is probably the best show on TV. Too bad it's gonna end next season, and no one really watches it. "Underrated" is an understatement
- Tygell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8They're making a series based on "A Song of Ice and Fire"
I doubt it will surpass The Sopranos, but you never know. - MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Entourage is amazing, it's coming back in April. And as others said, it really sucks that there's such a long time in between seasons for most of their shows, but with entourage, it is truly awful. They ended the MIDDLE of the 3rd season at the end of the summer and are continuing the same season again in april. That's like an 8 month break in the middle of a season, come on now.
- heilig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8carnivale had the potential to be one of the greatest shows of all time.
- DrScott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The Wire is where it's at.
- Nitro420, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Bring Back Carnivale!!! One of the greatest shows ever made.
- SanTe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What are you talking about? Cosmo Kramer pulled that off for nine seasons.
- tled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6bring back Carnivale...
- robbclark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Deadwood surpassed The Sopranos by leaps and bounds, and they cancel it.
Carnivale was dark and wonderful, and they canceled it.
Sadly, Entourage is the best show they have.
Anyone who tells you the last season and a half of The Sopranos was good is lying. - m00dy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6man that scene where pullo wrapped his hand around gia's neck...
talk about intense.... - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"The very first episode of season 1 is admittedly slow, but once you've figured out all the characters, you will not regret it. "
Also, it is *critical* that you watch the Wire from the first episode, and in order. Don't miss episodes. Watching the show is easy to do if you download it season by season off bit torrent or buy the DVDs. - mrgreen4242, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Entourage has been on for awhile now, and while it's clearly popular, if it hasn't gained enough steam to be a Soprano's replacement yet it isn't going to.
- Leomarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I kind of wish they would take Rome into Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero. But, I admit, those reigns don't have the grab factor the Julius, Octavian and Marc Antony do.
- EviLiu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Real Time with Bill Maher is the best thing on television today.
- therippa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9The Sopranos started lagging after season 3, and Six Feet Under picked up the slack. I still consider Six Feet Under to be the best HBO drama.
- cozinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Entourage is a fun show and very entertaining, but it doesn't reach the emotional heights or character development of the Sopranos or Six Feet Under. Both are masterpieces and Tony Sopranos is the most fleshed-out character in TV history. SFU had the best finale in TV history. http://youtube.com/watch?v=el4eUKmLujg
- Goldbricker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5A properly done Song of Ice and Fire could be HUGE for HBO. There are a ton of people out there that just don't know what they're missing with those books.
- Exhaust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Couldn't agree more. Big Love is a great show but seeing a surprise shot of Bill's ass every show is not good.
Nice profile name too.
"Shut the ***** up Donnie, you're out of your element!" - MisterWhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Six Feet Under had such a good ending they could never bring it back, but I wish it was still on.
- cbergeron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+82 words:
Lucky Louie
Best new sitcom, period. - Subtonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If they kept Carnivale going with crude Flash animations and crappy voice acting I would still watch it. Budget problems solved AND we see the ultimate showdown between good and evil with the occasional burlesque show in squiggle-vision.
- Detritus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I felt the Sopranos started off strongly, but declined rapidly from the 3rd season on. Oz felt the same way, so I didn't miss it when it was canceled. Deadwood never had a 3rd season, so we'll never know if the same would have been true.
I honestly don't understand wtf they think they're doing axing Deadwood and Rome. - Nitro420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They are expensive to make, yes. But don't you think HBO knows this at the beginning of the season? It's not like they get the ok to make it and then the bill comes out of no-where.
If they can't afford to make it, why would they make it in the first place? - robwolf100, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Anybody else wish we still had Carnival? I do.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Definitely agree @ Lucky Louie
- Phantastica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Do you guys have any idea how expensive it is for the to produce shows like Rome and Carnivale? The reason they're getting cancelled is because one season costs the price of a big budget movie, likely over $100 mil. It doesn't matter how good the shows are, they just don't generate enough revenue to justify the enormous cost involved in making them.
I wonder if they would be able to keep producing those shows if they ran ads like a regular network station? - xjgeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6One word........Entourage! The best show on TV, hands down. If you havent seen it, go rent seasons 1-3. You will not be disappointed. Although you better hurry, the new season starts April 8th!
- bloodytemplar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've never read Song of Ice and Fire, but it sounds like it's right up my alley. I'm on my library's waiting list for the audio version of the first book (28 freakin' disks!).
I, like a lot of you, feel HBO's crowning achievement was Six Feet Under. Sopranos made me an HBO fan, and then I got hooked on Oz, took a pass on The Wire after the first episode, but really enjoy Big Love and Rome. Through all that, Six Feet Under is my fave. I've never watched a TV show series finale that made me feel such a profound sense of loss - not just that the show was ending, but that episode touched off an emotional response that was too powerful to describe. I don't cry at movies, but this show made me sit in stunned silence for 10 minutes. That's good freakin' TV.
That's why I'm pretty stoked about Alan Ball's new vampire series that's coming to HBO. Hopefully it has the emotional depth of Six Feet Under, but with freakin' VAMPIRES! :)
Also looking (somewhat) forward to John from Cincinnati - It's what prompted HBO to cancel Deadwood so its creator could focus on this new show. Makes me optimistic that it won't suck.
Still on my wish list: The other 4 seasons that were originally planned for Carnivale (look at my icon for a clue as to why I really dug that show), and the two promised movies to finish the Deadwood story arc. - KrystollMeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series. Enough said. He even says it, read...
http://www.stephenking.com/pages/FAQ/Stephen_King/dtmovie.php - soansoak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3New number one show? Preacher of course. Hopefully without Cyclops from X-Men, though.
