- jgreene777, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23Smallville is a cool show.
- imnotquitesure, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Actually the geek in me showing here. Lana was Clark's object of affection in High School in the Superman movies and I believe the comics. Chloe has no basis except in the show, so her fate is up in the air, but most likely in the ground (six ft. under).
- Dimensio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The episodes with good writing can be difficult to find. The first step in finding them is to rule out any episode the features the character of Lana Lang for more than ten minutes total of screen time. The resulting list still will not be entirely of episodes written well, but it is a good start.
Note that the flaw is not in the character of Lana Lang herself, but of the writers' inability to do anything significant with her relationship with Clark without having to press a "reset button". - jhuebel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Smallville is a great show. I have to admit that season 4 wasn't the best. But the story really picked up steam during season 5, especially with the addition of James Marsters (as character Milton Fine).
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9At least you admitted it. We all make mistakes sometimes, and the digg comment system is atrocious.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I'm torn by Smallville.. I'm a lifelong Superman fan, and for a long time now, Smallville has been my only source of new Superman material. However, they've completely ***** all over the last couple seasons by adding Lois in, making Lana a ***** witch, and being generally too oriented towards (as someone else put it) teen-girl drama.
However, the truly good episodes are good enough for me to watch the rest too. - kupodan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8lex's dad, while not being in the comics himself, was an integral part of his childhood and is referenced many times by the early comics.
- Dimensio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Argh...the same guy who played Aquaman is going to play Green Arrow??"
No. The actor who will portray Green Arrow is the actor who would have portrayed Arthur Curry in a proposed pilot for an Aquaman-based TV show by Miles and Gough. That was not the same actor as the Arthur Curry of Smallville. - ohsoserial, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I watched Smallville in the beginning, where it actually had some basis in Superman. Now, they have Lois Lane showing up while Clark is still in High School (wtf), Lana becoming a witch and/or vampire (wtf x2), Brainiac being some kind of Terminator reject (wtf x3) and Lex Luthor being childhood buddies with Supes, only to be possessed by Zod (wtf x20). They lost me when they started being silly.
P.S. What the hell is up with Kryptonite? Pick a molecular composition. If it is, in fact, a crystal (as it should be), it can't be melted down, vaporized, liquified, flattened, refined, e.g. It's a crystal, it's a mineral, it's a vegetable. Pick one! Gaah! - bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -0/+54. Neither, Lana, Chloe or Lois is ever naked.
One of the major downfalls of television in general. - Visnik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I am a huge Smallville fan, but it is subject to major re-accruing problems.
1. Conflict between a set of characters, simply resolved (by kryptonite explanation or not) and forgotten by next show as if nothing every happened.
a. Example, Lionel Luther, the Kent’s’ hate him, Martha does not trust him, he does bad things, Martha is now socializing with him after Jonathans death.
2. The show goes no where, as mentioned above (Reset button) with all relationships.
• Lana, clark
• Lex, clark
• Lex, Lana
• Chloe, Lex
• Chloe, Lionel
• Chloe, Clark
• Lana,Chloe
• Lois, Clark
• And I could keep going
3. Kryptonite explains everything and causes super villains almost every week, but is forgotten about the next episode and no one out side of Smallville is the wiser.
4. Neither, Lana, Chloe or Lois is ever naked.
5. Clark is a pussy, and never actually gets any pussy
6. The show goes nowhere
7. We see Chloe explode as soon as she shuts the door, (end of season 3 I belive), just to be explained she had plenty of time to escape though a secret passage.
8. Lionel tried to kill Chloe, but neither harbors any hard feelings.
9. Neither, Lana, Chloe or Lois is ever naked.
10. The show goes no where
11. Oh and did I mention the show goes nowhere and the hot chicks are never naked.
I still watch it however, never missed an episode.
Oh and the Sopranos season 6 sucked, it goes nowhere either - Shabadoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Seriously. They lost it with season 4, then came back in a great way wth the first half of season 5. Then they completely ruined it with the 100th episode. Specifically, when they decided it would be a good idea to negate REAL development with Clark/Lana with a stupid reset button. Then it all went downhill from there.
Zod possessing Lex?! Jesus.....what stupidness - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Neither Jay Garrick (Flash I) or Barry Allen (Flash II) nor Wally West (Flash III) in ANY incarnation have EVER appeared in Smallville. While Impulse (Bart Allen) later became the new "Kid Flash" for all of a hot second, he's now lost his powers and in any case doesn't qualify as "the Flash". So... so there. Now, Ollie? Sure, sure... fine. (Koff, koff... light weight!) Give us Green Lantern, and we've got some serious action.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5When did Cyborg come on Smallville?
- Shabadoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8When do the good writers come to Smallville?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7What I'm wondering is what's going to ultimately happen to Lana and Lex's dad, considering I've never seen or heard of them being in the comics
- CingleMolt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4FYI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lana_Lang
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes... with even less time to fix anything and NO delete for double posts, its pretty poor for self-editting.
- blogspinner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not so sure I like the current and last seasons, but the show early on was well-written. I particularly enjoyed the fact that they managed to have Clark help people without revealing his identity and sometimes without his powers. Very difficult to write, I think. I was always a bigger of fan of Batman because he was human and still had "powers", and used his brain. This Clark Kent is very intelligent.
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The basis for Lex's dad Lionel was somewhat taken from certain parts of the comic book Lex's background, such as the origin of his wealth.
- topguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hi Guys,
I have just discovered a site it might be useful.
It is apparently a free smallville site where they give away a lots of episodes from series 1 to 3.
A great way to catch up some old stuff.

See you around - reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Argh...the same guy who played Aquaman is going to play Green Arrow?? That guy was awful! Aquaman was never a surfer "hey dude" kind of guy in the comics or Justice League...and I hav a strong feeling that they will screw Green Arrow up.
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Whoops my bad. Let's hope it turns out to be better.
- ColdChilli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Flash character in Smallville had multiple fake IDs with Barry Allen and Wally West. He was definitely characterized as The Flash with his clothes in a red and yellow motif, just as Clark has red, blue and yellow and he was faster than Clark.
- Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1G4-TechTV was not a merger officially. TechTV was sold to comcast who decided that g4 had way too little decent programming, and took parts of TechTV and killed off the rest (and most of the parts they took they butchered) except for xplay.
- sgtstadanko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I want to know is...will Speedy be showing up and will he be on smack!
- AzraelKans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You want to hear the sad traumatizing part about this?
The Star Wars series premiering in a year or so, features "the adventures of young skywalker in tattoine while the rebellion/empire progresses in the background"
Yep. is TattoineVille.
Somebody Saaaaaaaaaave me! - JDobbs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually both having teen Clark meet teen Lois and Lex and Clark having a history that goes back to Smallville were both established in Pre-Crisis Superboy storylines.
While i'm no purist either, my dislike for Smallville has nothing to do with them screwing with continuity, but rather with the sub-Dawson's Creek: The College Years writing and even worse Seventeen Magazine Cover Whores acting. - dknightbatman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope you are right Visnik, that would be a great geek out fanboy moment
- dknightbatman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anyone heard any rumours of Bruce Wayne showing up?
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a bit of a spoiler but it's being dug so maybe i'm the only one that thought so.
- Visnik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No but Gothem city is mentioned in Superman Returns.
Give it time Dknightbatman, the big black bat will show in some form in smallville. - AzraelKans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im digging this just because something about a future for smallville, there was a strong rumor the show will be cancelled after the superman returns movie. To be honest it makes sense, I mean, who wants to see the adventures of Clark Kent after seing superman in the big screen ?
Unless they progressively turn clark into Superman which is aparently where they were going by the end of season 5 lets just hope they dont hit the reset button. And continue with smallvile 90210 which to be honest has gone downhill. (the story hardly makes sense any more)
btw in the original movie, Clark Kent turns into Superman when his father dies, which is what just happened in the show.
- evolseven, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well lets look at a real element that has a crystalline form.. Silicon .. It can be melted at around 2600 F, according to wikipedia it even has a boiling point of about 6000 degrees, I could see a liquid suspension being made, and well silicon wafers (flattened silicon) are the basis of electronics today.. and refinement is just concentration and removing impurities.. Maybe kryptonite is an element.. in which case it could have all of those properties
- evolseven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wrong place
- jhuebel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm no Superman purist, so I have to disagree with you on a few points.
- Having Lois Lane show up is an enjoyable deviation from the "real" Superman universe. Spunky, sexy and unnerving to Clark. It adds some much needed tension to distract you from the relationship between Clark and Lana *yawn*.
- I will give you the Lana/witch thing though. That whole story arc was pretty lame.
- Having Lex and Clark be childhood buddies has actually added an interesting conflict in the show, though. It has been interesting to watch Lex and Clark slowly drift apart. Especially seeing Lex become more and more evil.
- As for the Zod-possessed-Lex, I'm up in the air on that one. It really all depends on how season 6 goes. I'll reserve judgement until we see how that unfolds.
- I don't really have much of a comment on the kryptonite thing. The show doesn't really explain how this-or-that variation on kryptonite is made, so I chalk that up to being artistic license. Granted, there have been some pretty silly applications of krytonite, such as kryptonite tatoos that make you walk through walls.
I guess with any deviation from a comic-book universe, you have to take the good with the bad. To date, there has been more "good" than "bad" in Smallville, IMO. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I suppose I should mention that Queen Industries was mentioned in the pilot. I think it was on the newspaper in the helicopter. Hopefully it'll be well done, though I have my doubts.
- dblanchard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm no physics wizard, but isn't ice a crystalline form of water (which can be vaporized, flattened, etc)?
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Is Smallville kind of the nexus of the universe or something?
- dknightbatman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I love Green Arrow he is a great character, I cant wait to see how they incporperate him into one of my favorite shows ever. But I tihnk a huge move on DC's part would be allowing Bruce Wayne to show up in one of the last episodes since this is rumoured to be the last season.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Cyborg came to Smallville either this season, or last one. Some injured football player as I recall.
- w3bslinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I cant believe they canned aquaman! It would hav been a great smallville spinoff!
- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well, This is only going to get worse as The WB becomes The CW. Trust me, mergers dont work out well. Anyone remember the G4-TechTV one?
- Visnik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh and i forgot to mention more shannanaginsOh and i forgot to mention more shenanigans, Smallville is about superman, so why do we see, flash, Auquaman, Braniac, now green arrow, I am sure Bruce Wayne will show, it is superman, I hate all these others showing up, it makes superman less of a focus and less special. Oh you have these great “abilities”, but so does he, and him, and her and it, and they and them and and and and and.
But alas, I still watch the show. Anybody know when BSG starts up again? To busy watching Smallville to know. - JamesMcEwan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lois, Clark, Jimmy at the Daily planet, Green Arrow in it for an arc where he's forming the JLA.....you can tell they wished they were doing a Superman show.
On an interesting sidenote, the guy playing Jimmy, is Aaron Ashmore, Shaun Ashmore from X-men's twin brother. Shaun already appeared in smallville and was rumoured to be the first choice as Jimmy in superman returns. - daworld, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe it's me, but I was getting excited to see the Aquaman show, too bad The CW didnt pick it up....It would have been good if done right...
- MiamiGuy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Somebody saaaaaaaaave me. From the WTF stuff they've done with Superman in this show.
- jgclark123, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Smallville was a cool show.
Crazy kryptonite-based mutants for villains got old somewhat quickly. - MasterGrief, on 10/12/2007, -17/+11Agreed. But then, I despise smallville and everything it stands for--but mostly just because it's crappy teenage girl-oriented drama brought to us courtesy of the goombas at the WB Network. Of course, that's just my opinion, so if you don't agree, you know what to do.
- SkepticalJS, on 10/12/2007, -20/+13People still watch that show?
