- Tamriel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+53NO IT SHOULD SAY PREQUEL
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38OMG ALL CAPS!!!
any title that is in all caps should immediately be banned =-/ - Abyss_908, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35Shouldn't the title say prequel?
- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31It's Galactica dumbass, not Gallactica. If you're going to talk about a show that is considered one of the best shows on tv, then at least spell half the name right.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27HE WAS PROBLY< TOO BUSY SLAMMING DOWN ON SHIFT TO NOTICE!!!1
- W00DR0W, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25"GALLACTICA' SEQUEL TELLS HOW THE ROBOT WAR BEGAN"
If it tells how the war began then doesn't that make it a prequel? - Ruckgesicht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Dugg down for the title. This crap with the all caps is not necessary.
- MemeWarrior, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29I think what they ment was that the show is much more character driven than some other science fiction shows out there.
- isemism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21THE ROBOT WAR WAS STARTED BY A VERY DISGRUNTLED KEYBOARD WITH A BROKEN CAPSLOCK KEY.
-fact - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21The Galactica series IS a soap opera, as much if not more than ST:TNG was.
- sanman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I'm sure we've all heard the phrase "space opera" before -- I think it was coined for Star Wars. So what's wrong with that, anyway?
People like drama. I know I do. People like science fiction, too. Why can't we have drama with our science fiction? To be frank, sci fi has been doing drama ever since it started.
Hell, isn't the whole reason that japanese anime took off in the west because they decided to put more dramatic oomph into their cartoons? More drama means more entertainment.
Did you see what happened between Mr and Mrs Tigh on that previous Galactica episode? Wow, now that was drama. - Picard102, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Bad bad idea. The franchise isn't nearly mature enough to start diversifying. This is a blatant grab at cash that could damage the brand overall.
- jccalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13NO GALLACTICA IS SO FUTURISTIC EVEN THE SHOWS IN PAST ARE IN THE FUTURE
- flush2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10you mean that they'll take a well established franchise and drag it through the mud until it gets the can?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9i would say more like DS9 than ST:TNG. DS9 was definitely a soap opera.
- TrevorBradley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7All caps with typos. Worse yet, the article linked to has the same typos in its title. *AND* in the article body. Spell check, people!
- vp0ng, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7so according to you this would make Battlestar Galactica better would be as follows:
1 Crack jokes all the time so as not to maintain a serious mood capable of relaying the seriousness of the struggle for humanity's survival.
2 Use the word ***** instead of Frak, making the show un-airable on the channel that created it.
2 Not be a dark drama anymore, but maybe something bright and cheery like Teletubbies (also not sure how there can be two #2 on your list)
3 Have a cast of super happy people that are oblivious to the fact that humanity is at an end. Rather than fight the cylons, they should have happy tea with them.
4 Change the name frome Battlestar Galactica to Battlestar Stargate and have MacGuyver get them out of every situation with bubblegum and tweezers. Also, make the starship cheery and fun! :D
5 Make the doctor and all the characters completely transparent so everyone knows all their secrets/motives... also happy.
hmmmm... call me a cynic, but i prefer it the way it is. Give me dark or give me death!
So say we all! - vp0ng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Try watching the old ones today. yes they were great in their time, but now, they've become almost unwatchable. I don't think anyone can really believe it was a better program back then than the current one if they look at them. Unless you really enjoy cheese and judge it to be the better type of entertainment. If so, to each their own.
In reality, you can't properly compare the two as they've become completely different programs. All they share is program Title and general plot of looking for earth. Both done incredibly differently. - TyRaNNOus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Perhaps we will get to see the now only referenced walking toasters from the original BSG
- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I just got into BSG recently, I had moved and my cable tv service hadnt been switched over to my new place yet, so I bought season 1 of BSG on a whim, and boy was a pleasantly surprised. Now I can't find season 2 anywhere so im forced to burn video cds of episodes ive bittorrented. But its so worth it. Although I dont think I will watch Caprica much, atleast not while its on TV (DVDs are the way to go)
- archer75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5old news. Caprica was announced so long ago
- zydeco, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Yeah, god forbid you kids can't sit still for an hour and enjoy a good story without all the SFX to keep your brain in check. Up that ritalin when you get the chance...
- somnus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You have no sense of humour, there're jokes all over the place. And: IT'S NOT A COMEDY SHOW!
1) "What about the other launch bay?!"
"It's a gift shop now!"
2) Frak < *****, yes. You also can't say ***** on US TV. Idiot. Better that than "Oh gee golly!". Also it's more creative than "darn", though I'd like to see a solution a la Firefly (a meld of languages. You can say whatever you want in Cantonese on US TV).
3) Yeah. TV should be catered to *your* needs! I'm writing a letter to the execs RIGHT NOW.
4) You mean "depressing". It's actually uplifting. The show is about the human condition and struggle. Apparently, your life is all bad acting (McGuyver [sp?]) and fantasy Sci-Fi with jokes.
5) Cylon. The word is all over the comments so read, please. That's one of the most interesting plot devices in the show. If you don't get it, you're not supposed to because you're too ***** (frakking) stupid =)
Conclusion: Go watch Teletubbies. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Not another Anti-Robot show
When will you Luddites and Techno-phobe's die off!
I dont have a problem with Galactica,
more with religious leaning's fear of technology.
Robots are Good for all Mankind
The Singularity is near! "
When a Cylon Centurion is staring at you and pointing his machine gun at your face, say that to yourself. - MemeWarrior, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Normally I agree with you, but I've always gotten the impression that there's a deep and complicated history behind BSG. I think if produces some of the same quality writing and acting that's in the current show the prequel will have the potential to be just as successful.
- matatan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41st - It is Galactica NOT Gallactica.
2nd - It is a Prequel NOT Sequel.
3rd - NYPost is garbage. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Not to mention the merit in supporting quality shows with your dollars.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I actually liked Enterprise -- somewhat.
Then again, I really liked Voyager too. And I hated Deep Space 9, so maybe I buck the trends.... - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@Calypsoaf:
I burried it for you. You can thank me later. - EbowUK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5And yet the Poweh of Teh Digg managed to put it on the front page, even managing to seemingly announce the arrival of a new series called "GALLACTICA"
I for one welcome the arrival of our illiterate ovrelrods. - WitNit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You can get season 2 & 2.5 at Amazon, also on iTunes. I know I don't have to tell you this but watch what you get via torrent.
- explorer509, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought Galactica was set in the present time.
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you dug me down for saying it reminded me of Space: Above & Beyond?
- anonym41414, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Oh noes, the cylons have come back and killed almost every human alive–hey! Is that a casino planet?"
- bemenaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So what you are saying, is, that BSG, is good Sci Fi. Since good sci fi, is about the story, not the tech/action.
Personally, I think the Capirca story is going to water down BSG's success. - EbowUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ the guy who needs the joke explained
Oh... CBA :) - spartan018, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4proper spelling would be nice, too. he had the correct spelling right there in the description, he didn't even have to go looking for it.
- crazyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Old News. Bad Title. You Fail.
- William42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2foolfromhell:
Cylons aren't real. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"You see them in the Mini Series."
Yeah, a replica in a museum inside a glass case..... - Lieske, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's a good idea, but it really just feels like their trying to milk the series while they can. I think Caprica would serve as a good Mini-Series, or one season show.
And, the caps and the misspelling of 'Galactica' are making me not want to digg this, but I love BSG too much... - Jimzip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@ Endeavoror
Firstly, you... oh never mind.
Jimzip :D - DogHumpsMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Prior to BSG, Space: Above and Beyond was my favorite SciFi show. It still pisses me off that they ended the first season with a cliff-hanger and never brought it back for another season.
I don't know why you got dugg down for such an innocuous comment. Must be the Star Trek fans or something. - sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no. an armistice is a temporary suspension of hostilities to provide for the possibility of a diplomatic solution. hence, a neutral (de-militarized zone) area.
- greyfade, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7yes, ST:TNG is a soap opera. it's not obvious, but especiall yin the later seasons, you can see a lot more soap opera-ish content than sci-fi.
maybe that's why i liked B5 and BSG? - csbu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the old one had some good episodes
like Saga of a Star World, and the The Lost Planet of the Gods are both good
the one with the Pegasus is good too. It had some stinkers, but what show doesn't.
However, Battlestar 1980 is an absolute abortion and needs to be removed from history - eean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha yea it might be explorer. The virus from last week was only three thousand years old.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think he meant a more literal interpretation of 'toaster'
- eean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its based on a bad tv show from the late 70s. :)
And its a pretty damn common theme in scifi regardless. - neozeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stargate? That pretty much says it all.
