""It is precisely that beneficial association that opens the song up for ridicule by parodists seeking to take the wind out of such lofty, magical, or pure associations"
Leads me to believe that the judge in this case is pure awesome. Seriously. - chambana, on 03/17/2009, -26/+167Good episode. Yesterday's was terrible and made an attack on The Simpsons. Family Guy attacking The Simpsons is like punching your dad in the face just for creating you.
- NoiseThread, on 03/17/2009, -5/+125And the song name? Why of course, it was "I need a Jew".
- FelixDrylock, on 03/17/2009, -3/+103"I need a Jew"... hmmm, that's probably what Seth MacFarlane yelled when he found out they were being sued!
- FelixDrylock, on 03/17/2009, -5/+87It wasn't really an attack, more like a homage (or a homer-age!). MacFarlane likes and respects The Simpsons.
- newman8r, on 03/17/2009, -0/+81it's called parody and it's protected speech. The complaint is totally unwarranted and a waste of time and money - and the ruling not a surprise in the slightest.
- Steek, on 03/17/2009, -2/+56I wouldn't call it an attack. It was a little 2 sec joke.
- Ginae, on 03/17/2009, -12/+63Love this ridiculous show!
- ArthurSucks, on 03/17/2009, -0/+37Good news! A song with different lyrics and music is not copyright infringement.

- burketo, on 03/17/2009, -1/+19indeed. i never realized there was legal premise for taking someone or something down a peg.
- MorpheousMarty, on 03/17/2009, -3/+21punching your dad in the face just for creating you? That is a huge exaggeration. It is more like making fun of your dad for being slow while going jogging. All they did was make a reference that the people don't like the Simpsons like they used to. That is a fact. People don't like the show like they used to. Now I am a loyal Simpsons fan, but I can admit that the show is more of a parody of itself now than the show it used to be. I'm still ok with the show as it is, but I understand that it is not what most people liked about the show 16 years ago.
Family Guy has been way crueler in the past. They take no prisoners. If you get offended, the joke's on you. Sit back and sacrifice your sacred cow or don't watch, because this will likely continue. - chronopublish, on 03/17/2009, -0/+17@wolfing
Are you watching the same show I am? If Family Guy is guilty of anything, it's making incredibly long jokes.
And now, Mr. Conway Twitty. - hamishcduncan, on 03/17/2009, -2/+18Yesterdays WAS terrible..
- misterwrite, on 03/17/2009, -0/+15"Lois: "Wow, that was close."
Peter: "Yeah. That's just like the time I was sued by the Disney Corporation... "
(Cue cutaway court scene) - s0nicfreak, on 03/17/2009, -2/+16That's what she said.
- graemee, on 03/17/2009, -1/+15it's Goofy time!
- Khast, on 03/17/2009, -1/+14Hey spammers, here's a suggestion...take a long walk, off a short pier. (Hopefully you are wearing the appropriate gear, you know, like lead weights, and cement shoes.)
- BlackJackJester, on 03/17/2009, -0/+13I always thought parody was a form of flattery.
- wolfing, on 03/17/2009, -1/+14aren't all jokes in Family Guy 2 sec jokes?
- MacEnvy, on 03/17/2009, -1/+13No, that actually was the name of the song in the show that they were sued over. Don't get so defensive.
- atbnet, on 03/17/2009, -0/+11You only have to defend your trademark or lose it. The same doesn't apply to copyright. Also, any lawyer would tell you that a parody is fair use so I am not sure what idiot though this would be a good idea to bring a suit.
- CylonsOfTheLamb, on 03/17/2009, -0/+11I thought the Southpark episode was hilarious when they kept saying The Simpsons already did it.
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -3/+13I found a Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew
- manlyandy, on 03/17/2009, -0/+10I do wonder if they are just playing a game of how long they can have us watch something that isn't the show, just to see how long people will tune in. I'm guessing it will stop when it is just the intro and followed by an old episode of Fraggle Rock.
- NinjaBull, on 03/17/2009, -1/+11Meh Family Guy has gotten old and tired
- enantiodromia, on 03/17/2009, -2/+11god i loved it. death to the mouse!!!!

/////for missing too much work - MorpheousMarty, on 03/17/2009, -0/+9Well, you took two copyrighted materials and spliced them together. Not exactly a parody, or really any form of transformation. Now had you changed the lyrics to suit the video, and tweaked the music (by say, adding chickens in the background), re-edited the film and added some filters, you might be able to claim fair use. As is, although I think the copyright holders should appreciate you advertising for them, they have the right to refuse you copying their material in any way. Again, had you transformed the work in some way, they have less of a claim against you copying it, but you pretty much copied it wholesale.
- palewook, on 03/17/2009, -1/+10family guy will dmca anyone posting a 5-15 second clip on youtube dared to cry fair use in court? thats some funny ***** right there.
F' Fox. - MacEnvy, on 03/17/2009, -0/+8@chrono
That was downright *painful*, which was, of course, the intent. - welestgw, on 03/17/2009, -2/+10Didn't the Simpsons do the same thing back to them? I'm pretty sure this goes both ways. Giggidy.
- MacEnvy, on 03/17/2009, -0/+7As they said at the beginning of the episode, it was written 2 years ago and never aired. I think we now know why.
- astrixx, on 03/17/2009, -0/+7Can anyone explain to me how south park can get away with what they pulled off in the last episode?
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -1/+8Thank god for DVR's - the recent episode of Family Guy had waaaaaaaay to long of a cut to Conway Twitty. It was funny, then not funny, then funny again - and then there were two more minutes of it.
- whahaa, on 03/17/2009, -0/+6in fairness, "check out the confusion of aloo chaat!" is a bizarrely satisfying spam slogan. i'm not quite sure what to make of it...
- inactive, on 03/17/2009, -0/+6Another kick in the mouse's ball, no wait! that freak is a eunuch :[
- maxer64, on 03/17/2009, -3/+9The only complaint they could've had was if the tune or music was the same.. which it obviously isn't. It's good to be a lawyer in the United States of Litigation though. Idiotic clients keep lawyers rich.
- therippa, on 03/17/2009, -0/+5Here's a simple formula for determining the length a copyright can still be active...
Mickey Mouse's age + 5 years - po43292, on 03/17/2009, -2/+7its
- Soliden, on 03/17/2009, -1/+6Yes. When the Simpsons were in Italy one of the Italian police officers pulled out a book that had a list of criminals. One of the pages had a picture of Peter Griffin and it said, "Il Plagarismo" and then when the officer flipped the page there was a picture of Stan from American Dad and it said "Il plagarismo di plagarismo."
- scootinger, on 03/17/2009, -0/+5Now if only these stupid hypocrites would go by their own rules and stop ripping little clips of shows off Youtube! Posting little clips of TV shows isn't even going to hurt Fox anyway, and I think it can't do anything but help them (as in promoting their TV "brand" by making people want to watch the show, buy DVDs, etc.)
- protogenxl, on 03/17/2009, -0/+5Rupert Murdoch is Nuts
- betheturtle, on 03/17/2009, -3/+8It's funny cuz it's true!
- jasdf, on 03/17/2009, -0/+5The worst part was the 3 minutes of that gay guy singing.
- vegx, on 03/17/2009, -0/+5You haven't like the Simpsons since season 4? Or you don't know what you're talking about and picked a random year?
