- PistolSO, on 11/13/2007, -6/+120Only works on IE, and doesn't work on Macs? FAIL! Let me know when NBC realizes that Firefox, Safari and Opera are out there.
- richmessenger, on 11/12/2007, -3/+69They only cater to people using IE, but everyone else has figured out how to use torrents. Dumb move NBC.
- Rapter09, on 11/13/2007, -0/+41Hah. In the middle of a strike where the WGA is looking for extra comp from digital sales - which the studios won't provide - and they launch a download service.
Classy. - inactive, on 11/11/2007, -2/+39"Outside of the US? You’re out of luck too." Bummer!!
- mrfreeziexp, on 11/11/2007, -2/+33only a matter of time before we find out that the NBC software is tracking your every move.
- jtmelton, on 11/12/2007, -1/+32Awesome, now I can get the 3 new episodes until the writer's guild strike stops the server FOREVER !!! ... If I used IE ... or Windows
- kevinmotel, on 11/11/2007, -0/+30from nbc's website:
Q: Does NBC Direct support Firefox?
A: Firefox is not currently supported but full support is coming soon. We are actively addressing the needs of Firefox users and hope to have a solution in place by the end of the year.
Q: Are there plans to support the Macintosh operating system?
A: NBC Direct's video playback and security (Digital Rights Management) are built for the Microsoft Windows™ operating system. They don't currently run on other systems, such as Apple Macintosh™ or Linux™. However, if your Apple computer runs on an Intel Core Duo™ processor, you can set up Apple's™ "Boot Camp" software to install and run Microsoft Windows XP™ on your computer along with Mac OS X™.
Full Mac support is expected to be available in the first part of 2008. - titaniumdecoy, on 11/11/2007, -3/+30DRM=LOSE
- thejokell, on 11/12/2007, -1/+22***** that, just check out EZTV.
- str3ama, on 11/11/2007, -3/+20Only available in the US ...because apparently everyone outside the US doesn't subscribe to NBC.
You win NBC, I'll just pirate it without the WMP DRM. - ctishman, on 11/11/2007, -6/+23===============================

...just like every other failed download service. They won't last long enough to implement their phantom 'Firefox/Mac plans' (which they haven't even started to look into, trust me). Like every service of their type, they'll fail and disappear. - fLUx1337, on 11/11/2007, -6/+21No need to read the article people, I can sum it up for you: NBC Direct sucks!
Give it a year, they will be back on iTunes.... - HouseofEl, on 11/11/2007, -2/+15Support the WGA guys. There is currently a boycott of all download services from the networks. I don't know if any of you will follow it, but at least you should know.
- vwvan, on 11/12/2007, -2/+15NBC is really ***** itself to death.
- PathDaemon, on 11/11/2007, -0/+13The platform issues are only going to go away when they stop bothering with DRM. It's easy to get the shows, DRM free and in HD, illegally (which'll work on ANY computer with no fuss or custom players), and this alternative is way too much of a bitch to be worth the effort of using it. When will they learn?
- KeepSwinging, on 11/11/2007, -0/+12*If you know anything about computers this service will not work on your machine
- ericdano, on 11/11/2007, -1/+13Um, no thanks. I can get all their shows, if I wanted them, for free, with out 20 minutes of stupid ads, off bittorrent.
- spammvp, on 11/11/2007, -3/+14Are they trying to turn the strike into riots?
- actorboy, on 11/12/2007, -0/+11Q: Does NBC Direct support its writers?
A: No. Hence our sending out this big, online ***** you. - murf43143, on 11/11/2007, -1/+11Think this is to smack the Writers Guild in the face.
- clark24, on 11/11/2007, -1/+10I don't get it. Another pathetic attempt by a company to make content available online. It's almost like these companies want it to fail just so they can stick to their old ways and say they tried "new media" and it just didn't catch on. Are the balls on these guys so old and wrinkly that they just don't understand? It's not as good as iTunes and definitely not as good as Bittorrent.
- gthyb, on 11/11/2007, -1/+10Stupid Microsoft DRM. Same reason there's no streaming Netflix on the mac either.
- centerblack, on 11/11/2007, -0/+9But the theatre is paying for staff and electricity.
I guess you're saying that it's illegal to invite friends over to watch a movie? - lordwow, on 11/13/2007, -0/+9Would you like residuals with that?
- timfrietas, on 11/11/2007, -1/+10Exclusive: Using the term "exclusive" in front of your story, that is not whatsoever exclusive, but widespread knowledge, is totally lame.
- biznatch11, on 11/11/2007, -0/+8This service will fail. iTunes was relatively successful for TV shows because it was one program, one site where you could get everything. Now you have to go to a different site and get a special player to watch the shows from one network, can you imagine the confusion and difficulty if all the networks were to do this, let alone the dozens of video players you'd need? I agree with everyone saying they will have to go back to iTunes if they want their shows to be available online. It's easier to get this stuff on Bittorrent, I get everything from every network/channel on one website and need one player to watch it.
- Tempest261, on 11/11/2007, -1/+9The DRM (at least on my end) is pretty damn buggy and is preventing me from watching anything. I'd troubleshoot it, but it's just totally not worth my time.
Get a clue, major networks. We don't like DRM. We won't use DRM. DRM will never work. Get that through your ***** heads. - iamcool, on 11/11/2007, -2/+10Retards. Sure let me install windows and bootcamp. I'll stop whatever I'm doing to boot into windows, to launch their player that only plays their shows. Yeah, that's it, that's a solid business plan. NBC you have zero shows worth doing this for.
- fwc67, on 11/12/2007, -2/+10yes, for those outside.. /www.sidereel.com/ *cough cough*
- kevinmotel, on 11/11/2007, -0/+8don't refer to me in your posts ever again
- centerblack, on 11/12/2007, -0/+7I'd rather download it in HD, put it on my AppleTV, and watch it on my 40" LCD.
NBC, go ***** yourselves with DRM. - fLUx1337, on 11/11/2007, -0/+6Meanwhile, http://thepiratebay.org, http://eztv.it or http://torrentleech.org will be happy to cater for your [high quality] TV needs! ;)
- Aindrea, on 11/11/2007, -7/+13Buried for not being Firefox compatible. People still use IE??
- reed311, on 11/11/2007, -6/+12Yep, actually more people than Firefox; but thanks for trying to be "that pretentious guy".
- supermanred, on 11/11/2007, -1/+7An "alternative" to free torrents should be better quality. Hell, we'd pay 50 cents or 99 cents to watch a show if they offered it in the full HD quality they broadcast.
And it doesnt work outside the US. - supermanred, on 11/11/2007, -3/+9Yeah, because buying a show for 50 cents or 99 cents is worse than having to watch it in 200 x 50 resolution or whatever that crap is on NBC's site with ads.
Get a life. - EvilMoose, on 11/11/2007, -2/+8So NBC, how much money you get from Microsoft to make this an IE-only thing?
- RollFizzlebeef, on 11/11/2007, -1/+6It's rare that I feel the need to own one episode of a television series.
Streaming or temporary download is fine by me if it's available. - storylinehero, on 11/11/2007, -3/+8i hate nbc... just put the stuff back on itunes
- fuegosecret, on 11/11/2007, -1/+6wow... its kind of like usenet, but worse quality and not as fast.
- wario, on 11/11/2007, -1/+6thank god for the NBC Direct player that from what i can tell is windows media player based, unless i am wrong, i cant watch drm'ed shows, and be tracked on my watching habits, and install that crap, thanks NBC. I think i will take my nice little firefox browser right over to the Pirate Bay and and enjoy.
- STARTSOMETHING, on 11/11/2007, -4/+9You could also go to the theater. Open the exit door. And share the movie.
- rabbott, on 11/11/2007, -1/+5NBC team, Really!?! PC only with IE and no Mac support, Really!?!
- centerblack, on 11/11/2007, -0/+4IMO they just moved 5 feet to the left, not anywhere closer to where we should be.
- sophiaperennis, on 11/11/2007, -0/+4Geographic restriction: Only works in the US. Check.
Platform restriction: Only works on PC. Check.
Software restriction: Only works with Internet Explorer. Check.
Media Player restriction: Only works with WMP 10. Check.
Copy protection restriction: DRM-ed. Check.
Man, NBC has truly learned a great deal about what customers want, with this great new offer! - TimTheSloth, on 11/11/2007, -0/+4no no you misunderstood... it's exclusive in that it excludes people who don't use windows or IE.
- shadowblade989, on 11/11/2007, -0/+4IE Tab is just IE in a tab, as you might have guessed from the name. It saves you the extra step of opening IE yourself.
- Laxaloot, on 11/11/2007, -0/+4Doesn't firefox have something like 20% marketshare though? That is a large amount of userbase.
- SKick, on 11/11/2007, -1/+5Yes, it's definitely their balls to blame.
- Bananas21ca, on 11/12/2007, -0/+4I agree, IE7 isent horrible. I just prefer firefox. I only use IE when I need to see how something looks when im coding html
