- charlatantric, on 01/09/2008, -3/+185I love the "whoosh" at the end of the tape reel, followed by, "Stop the tape...stop the tape." Nothing rehearsed about that.
If he didn't want to publicize the tapes, none of this footage would have made the air, period.
The saddest part is probably around 90% of his fan base can't see through things like this. - xjoi, on 01/09/2008, -10/+184While Dr. Phil may be a this-or-that, the BumFights guy is a degenerate moron getting rich from other morons.
- hadessniper, on 01/09/2008, -2/+149So how many bum fight videos do you think Dr. Phil just sold for that guy?
- maximusv, on 01/09/2008, -7/+153This confirms my long held belief that Dr. Phil is nothing more than a rich man's Jerry Springer.
- StrongestLink, on 01/09/2008, -2/+87I'd like to share a little information regarding your friend DR. Phil. His wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_McGraw
and I quote...
"Ethical violation
The Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists imposed disciplinary sanctions on McGraw on January 27, 1989 for an inappropriate "dual relationship" reported in 1988 by a therapy client/employee from 1984. McGraw was ordered by the Board to take an ethics class, pass a jurisprudence exam, complete a physical evaluation, undergo a psychological evaluation and have his practice supervised for one year in order to continue his private practice in Texas. McGraw admits to giving the client a "job" at his office (which is not allowed), but denied carrying on a sexual relationship with the 19 year old, who says their relationship was "sexually inappropriate."[9][2][10] As of 2008, McGraw is still not licensed to practice psychology." - Junel, on 01/09/2008, -7/+70Saw this a while back I think he was more upset because the guy dressed like him. IMHO Dr. Phil is the most famous "Dr." who makes money on giving people common sense..., any moron with half a brain can do that.
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -6/+62Dr Phil is as much of a doctor as Dr Pepper.
- spammishking, on 01/09/2008, -9/+63I don't think this video reduces Phil's credibility, it just proves something we all knew, they are both douches.
- hauln4, on 01/09/2008, -9/+54Im not from the U.S but I know that you guys have alot of censorship on tv over there. But I'm assuming that Dr. Phil is shown on daytime tv? If he can just say "please ask your children to leave the room" and then show graphic stuff in the middle of the day then why can't shows like South Park say "If you are offended by crude language etc. please do not watch this" and then not block out all of the swearing and show it uncensored? Please correct me if I'm wrong but that just seems like ***** if he can show this on daytime tv and then shows after 8/9pm still have to be censored.
- AriaStar, on 01/09/2008, -3/+43This is only news if you thought "Dr." Phil had credibility in the first place. Anyone peddles by Oprah just seems like a gimmick in the making.
- smacksaw, on 01/09/2008, -3/+42He just got vetoed by Britney Spears and her family because they felt like he was exploiting their tragedies.
I think my fellow San Diegan with the shaved Dr Phil-look made a perfectly cromulent point: Dr Phil is as big of a piece of ***** as anyone else he "helps"... - naj0rt, on 01/09/2008, -1/+35He shows the footage THEN says "I refuse to publicise that". What a hypocrite.
- Perum, on 01/09/2008, -4/+37Dr. Phil is an *****.
Did anyone see the episode about teenagers with drug problems? Some poor dude got tricked into going to the show by his parents and Dr. Pheel up on ya. And at the end of the show Dr. Phil had these huge guys force the poor kid to go with them to rehab. He only smoked some pot from time to time. The poor kid was scared ***** by these huge guys taking him (against his will) to rehab. That can't be good psychology.
Dr. Phil was maybe a psychologist at some point but now he's just Jerry Springer hiding behind a degree. - AntBing, on 01/09/2008, -6/+37Capitalism at it's finest.
- DeviantDragon, on 01/09/2008, -2/+33Because that graphic stuff isn't really graphic enough to be censored. It's just a courtesy warning. No excessive gore or sex or foul language was in that clip. Not a fair comparison to South Park.
- roosteronacid, on 01/09/2008, -0/+26"I just watched that, and I reFUSE to publicise that!"... But the show aired? Great, "Dr." Phill... Really! Thumbs up!
On another note... Am I the only person who thinks "Dr." Phill is just a high-society clone of all the other so-called talkshows, who take advantage of sad, stupid people, and expose those peoples lack of brain-matter for all the World to see? - radioactivesmrf, on 01/09/2008, -5/+31What a douche. Sure the bum fights guy is no up standing citizen but how can air that entire video and then say this is deplorable and I don't want to insult the intelligence of my viewers. That is ***** sensationalism. If you think it's ok to show the video and then not even talk to the guy then that is just rude and stupid. All you did there was give him free publicity for all those kids that definitely did not leave the room when they heard him give his speech before the video.
- orangekid13, on 01/09/2008, -6/+29Isn't that the american dream?
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -7/+29I think you mean Steve Jobs
- Orderless, on 01/09/2008, -0/+21There is a 0% chance that Dr. Phil hadn't seen that clip prior to the show. He knew exactly what Bum Fights was before they even scheduled the show. It was incredibly dishonest for him to wait until the actual broadcast to act so shocked and appalled. The Bum Fights guy is an epic dick but Dr. Phil is just as bad. He marches these side show freaks out on national TV and gives them the exposure that they crave. If you're writing a paper on the depravation of modern society, look no further than the profitability of shows such as Bum Fights and Dr. Phil. And just think... many of these viewers are also voters.
- in2thel2ain, on 01/09/2008, -3/+24I didn't even realize that the guy was trying to dress like phil...i guess i'm blind.
But now that I see it, I have tremendous respect for the bum fight guy to pull it off without cracking up.
Other than that, he's a douche for exploiting bums. - draculthemad, on 01/09/2008, -4/+23Calling the bumfight guy a douche is an insult to douches everywhere.
This guy is pretty much the epitome of human scum. I mean, you could go through history finding epic examples of inhumanity, and even they could legitimately turn their nose up at this guy. - kolop1, on 01/09/2008, -0/+19 I can't believe anyone would go on Dr. Phil and air out their dirty secrets to the world.
- mst3kcrow, on 01/09/2008, -1/+19It will teach him not to trust his parents or authority. I had a friend in high school, his dad was a minister. He came back to his house one day with an ear pierced, his dad got offended and ripped it out resulting in a few stitches to repair his ear. Some people just fail as parents.
- gregstrander, on 01/09/2008, -3/+16There's something he and Dr. Phil have in common. Dr. Phill puts on this facade of "helping" people. If he really wanted to help people, he wouldn't exploit cheating spouses and pregnant teenagers on his show. He's showing the demise of people on his show, not unlike the bumfight guy, for a profit. If he actually wanted to help people, he wouldn't broadcast it to the world.
- cawpin, on 01/09/2008, -0/+12"I think it's an insult to my intelligence and that of my viewers."
That would be your show that insults people's intelligence, Phil. - gbro, on 01/09/2008, -0/+11No need, there was a free one under the seats.
- Bornhuetter, on 01/09/2008, -5/+16South Park's swearing isn't "censored", it's bleeped out for "artistic reasons". ie. it's funnier bleeped than hearing the actual swearing.
- spudnic, on 01/09/2008, -2/+13To summarise: An exploitative moron chucking an exploitative ***** off the exploitative moron's show.
- nikkesen, on 01/09/2008, -1/+12Sure he's got a degree, but he doesn't have a license to practice.
Either way, if you've got to go to a doc to get common sense... well, that's just sad. - jackpot, on 01/09/2008, -0/+10My guess, it was a job for both of them. With the situation, both knew they could get more viewership. Dr. Phil being the "stand-up guy" that he is, thwarting the "evil" of the creator of bum-fights. They went after the show and got a beer together and gave $20 to a bum to run into the wall.
- mstoneburner, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9Actually, shows after 8/9 pm don't HAVE to be censored, the cable channels censor them to please their advertisers. Legally, Comedy Central could air 24/7 midget donkey porn, but there's no money in it.
- wes00mertes, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9This kinda stuff makes me upset. I get the same feeling whenever I see a Bill O'Reilly video clip. Or Nancy Grace. They are sensationalist ***** and will remain on the air for a long time because they get viewers; there is nothing I can do about it.
- daskatzsocrates, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9says you!
- kingmanic, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9Rich men don't watch this crap. He's a upper middle class house wife's jerry springer.
- Jugalator, on 01/09/2008, -2/+11I can understand a psychologist working for money -- sure, everyone needs to make a living. But this guy does it in front of an audience, to win their appeal, his advertisers' appeal, and his TV network's. He can thus never give controversial advice to an uninformed public, even if it would be the correct advice. I don't understand the people who go to him instead of a regular place where people in the extreme opposite try to uphold his/her patient's privacy. You go to Dr Phil when your eager for visibility grows beyond your eager to get treated. That's pretty damn disgusting when the problems on the show are all very real and often invole third parties too, like children or relatives.
Besides that, I also have issues with Phil's political opinions. There was this show about people being sent to the Iraq war where he pressured (and his audience boo'ed) at a mom who wanted her son back and argued that more moms should do like her. Sickening. - ivybaby, on 01/09/2008, -1/+10I totally agree with you; this man should be in jail for the disgusting way he treats these people...it's beyond me how a human being can be so cruel.
- Judacious, on 01/09/2008, -0/+8Did the guy shave the middle of his head to imitate Dr. Phil?
... Thanks for introducing me to bum fights Dr. Phil. - hasansexy, on 01/09/2008, -2/+9Anyone notice how he says 'stop the tape' like 1/10th of a second after it has stopped?
My brother bought his book a couple of years ago, what should I do? - inactive, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7Those who can, do. Those who can't, go on Oprah.....................
- aladrin, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7As DD said, it's not the violence or horrible nature of the film that is censored, it's merely the gore or language. It's completely ridiculous, of course... You can do just as much (or more!) damage to a child without gore as with it.
- daskatzsocrates, on 01/09/2008, -0/+6No, that was the Joker's girlfriend in Tim Burton's Batman...
- dudefather, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7teeth pulling? what is this, Nathan Barley?
- Chromatik, on 01/09/2008, -2/+8Your gullibility and ignorance is what is wrong with people today. You actually bought that *****? If "Dr" Phil actually gave a toss about the homeless and what that guy was doing to them he would be working behind the scenes to shut Bum Fights down and give the creator no publicity in the process. Instead he drags him on TV for just long enough to try to make himself look noble.
- Esstee, on 01/09/2008, -2/+7I saw this a few months ago and I have to say the guy was totally hilarious in his attempt to dress and look like Dr. Phil.
I guess his angle was that he was in his own way "helping people" lol
Anyways, he got what he deserved. While I don't agree with the gross misuse of peoples misfortune of being televised for entertainment and profit, I think Dr. Phil was well within reason when he threw this dirt bag off the stage. Despite the fact that he was in every sense of the word, a visual extremist of what these shows stand for to begin with. - lucutus, on 01/09/2008, -2/+7Knowing how stupid and gullible 1/2 the population is, I feel it is a disservice to the public to allow this crackpot to continue. His in your face style of exploiting real people with real problems only to embarrass them on TV disgusts me. Knowing other people believe this is the way to deal with life's problems is ruining many a family. If I didn't know otherwise I'd say there is no way this man is a doctor. He acts like a quack. When he puts on his act with a kid who's borderline suicidal it nakes me so angry I want to smack him. I just can't even watch.
- OrangeTide, on 01/09/2008, -1/+6I kind of assumed this was common knowledge. Luckily for Dr. Phil he is unlikely to establish a sexual relationship with the kinds of trash he brings on his show.
- mjmelies, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5Source?
- Tuto, on 01/09/2008, -1/+6Dr.Phil is probably one of the biggest frauds in the TV industry along with Benny hinn and a few other evangelist TV preachers. But they pale in comparison to the bum fight maker. Its one thing to take advantage of people who are stupid but in general normal people. Its a completely different ball game to take advantage of people who have substance abuse problems along with serious mental health issues. Taking advantage of people like that should be punishable in the criminal law.
- techmaster, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5There are no fines, it's not broadcast TV, it's cable. If it were played on CBS or NBC, you bet there would even be more bleeping.
