- Doomsan, on 04/08/2009, -2/+218Kevin really wanted Trent to add him to his Xbox Live friends.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -2/+216For such an intense musician, he's so soft-spoken.
Also, those guns could KILL. - kevinrose, on 04/08/2009, -1/+214Thanks for the feedback, I had the questions on the laptop, but yes, could have had them printed out... and RELAX?? It's f'ing Trent Reznor, kinda hard to relax. : )
- redwire, on 04/07/2009, -4/+167Trent seems like a cool guy, great artist and apparently a mad gamer, I had no idea he did the sound for quake. :)
- Calamier, on 04/07/2009, -3/+155Very interesting interview, I have mad respect for trent reznor. Half an hour well spent.
- Nipahc, on 04/07/2009, -5/+94Nice work! I enjoyed it!
Always get something good out of Trent Renzor, he's on top of things and ingenious! - ekai, on 04/07/2009, -5/+94I totally paid for that Saul Williams album. It was definitely worth at least $5.
- vtbarrera, on 04/08/2009, -1/+87This is definitely the best Digg Dialogg I've seen yet. Trent Reznor is obviously the man.
- Anand999, on 04/08/2009, -1/+85They should do a combined website of the two concepts. Call it Nig... never mind.
- Gorzki, on 04/08/2009, -4/+72Great Dialogg. Trent is a true genious musically and as far as business tactics, and I love to see he's such a down to earth person.
- blapierre, on 04/08/2009, -14/+79"I had no idea he did the sound for quake."
That's because you're a noob. - Phasmorphage, on 04/08/2009, -3/+61Digg and NIN?
That's crazy... mixing two things I like... next thing you know they'll find a way to combine peanut butter sandwiches and jelly sandwiches... - LordStandley, on 04/08/2009, -0/+57Yea he's a much bigger dude than I thought he was.
- scorgiman, on 04/08/2009, -0/+50The original Quake CD also contained an Audio CD component allowing you to play all the in game music on a CD player. The Quake theme was awesome. Also the crates of nails in the game for the nail gun had the NIN symbol on them.
- TheGreatBelow, on 04/08/2009, -0/+50Kevin kind of geeked out when he asked about Geometry Wars 2, I lol'd at that too.
- DjOverEZ, on 04/08/2009, -2/+50To your credit Kevin, you came across as much more comfortable with Trent than with Al Gore. I had a hard time watching that interview. Akward.
- brianpeiris, on 04/08/2009, -2/+49I've been generally impressed by how forward thinking NIN is about the industry but I never really knew how wise and savvy Trent Reznor is. Great interview.
- dtpollitt, on 04/08/2009, -19/+65kevin--
relax a bit! do you really need to be on your computer to interview? seemed kinda weird. - bavatara, on 04/08/2009, -2/+48mofo is RIPPED
- diskoh, on 04/08/2009, -1/+42His speaking voice is absolutely dissimilar to his singing voice. It's kind of startling.
- stopbrorape, on 04/08/2009, -1/+42When I feel nervous I just masturbate.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 04/08/2009, -5/+38not a fan of their music- but big thumbs up to this man. I might even buy an album just to support them- even if I'll never listen to it.
- Dr3w, on 04/08/2009, -2/+34He'd rather die than give Kevin control.
- lorductape, on 04/08/2009, -2/+34I don't even listen to NIN but I thoroughly enjoyed that interview. Very interesting perspective. I really liked what he said about people aspiring to become the American Idol/Coldplay type performer. One thing that has annoyed me about people preaching "Indie! Death with record labels!" is that I think people fail to anticipate what will really happen if record labels disappear. They still are the propelling force behind much of pop music culture, and I'm glad to see Trent understands that and can offer advice to people aspiring to be part of that culture even though he's taken a completely different road.
- Gorzki, on 04/08/2009, -1/+32Trent was also *originally* slated to do the score for Doom 3 back in it's infancy. His idea was to have the ambient sounds of the game come together to form something dark, moody, and in some ways musical instead of having a "soundtrack" persay. A shame that it hit a snag and they decided against it :(
- darkciti2, on 04/08/2009, -0/+27He hasn't always been that way. When I started listening to NiN (1992), he was pretty skinny and pasty. Back then, I think he dated Courtney Love and Tori Amos briefly.
NIN played at "The Station" in Melbourne, Florida in front of a crowd of <100 people. I saw a show in Orlando in front of a crowd of 2,500 at "The Edge" in Orlando in 1995 (Manson opened up for him). It was the most amazing show I've ever seen.
Actually, the most amazing show was in Jacksonville in 1996 (after Jim Rose Circus) when he played "Something I Will Never Have" - it was the only time I've ever been in an auditorium with 50,000 people where you could hear a pin drop at the end of a song.
To this day, I still get chills when I think about that evening. He closed the show with that song, and everyone seemed to creep out of the stadium.
Amazing. - andrespereyda, on 04/08/2009, -4/+30man, the interview was respectful and fine...you all need to chill. use some medicinal
- boydrew, on 04/08/2009, -2/+28I don't hold it against you lol did you guys' see his (reznor's) guns? I would want as much separation as possible... especially asking that scientology question (which turned out to be anticlimactic)...
- GhettoHmbrglr, on 04/08/2009, -0/+26And he's ***** jacked.
- Legoman513, on 04/08/2009, -1/+26Enjoyed the interview, Trent's realistic and thoughtful responses and very human personality really impressed me. I have a lot of respect for him.
- thatwasawkward, on 04/08/2009, -2/+25Intelligent.
- Legoman513, on 04/08/2009, -0/+21I'll never understand why people take music quality personally (and digg you down here), its a matter of opinion more than solid fact. Although I personally love NIN, I dugg you up for respect and holding your own opinion.
- Shellbait, on 04/08/2009, -1/+21Trent looks as though he's violently killed many men- and laughes about it every night before he goes to sleep.
- DjOverEZ, on 04/08/2009, -4/+23I agree. This isn't Diggnation. Give the interviewee your full attention. The laptop seemed much like a barrier between you and Trent. Other than that, great interview.
- StolenLamp, on 04/08/2009, -1/+20You know if you could get Trent Reznor on your friends list, you would FREAK.
- stopbrorape, on 04/08/2009, -1/+20http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5iAYVIxaTk
- MarrowMan, on 04/08/2009, -2/+20What trent has to say is always interesting, I'm glad I'm a fan of an artist who's not as deep as a puddle.
- Stewart21, on 04/08/2009, -2/+18Trent is jacked!
- borez, on 04/08/2009, -0/+16I thought you did a bloody good job to be honest mate. Also I did laugh when you asked him if he was a bit of a geek and the guy is basically sat in front of one of the most uber geek heaven rack of analogue synths that I've seen for a long time.
- Legoman513, on 04/08/2009, -2/+17Don't comment.
- quantumsaint, on 04/08/2009, -2/+17It's not that he was making fun of them, he was noting that they make music to appeal to the widest crowd possible, to make as much money as possible. In other words, it's not music for music's sake; it's music for money's sake.
- yx486927, on 04/08/2009, -1/+14It's 2:30 am and I just laughed out loud. Thank you.
- HurricaneDC, on 04/08/2009, -1/+13That's a terrible thumbnail >_>
Trent Reznor is a very cool guy. - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+12I lawled relatively hard.
- stopbrorape, on 04/08/2009, -2/+14They talked for like forty minutes.
- FasmTrout, on 04/08/2009, -1/+13Kevin: Hey man
Trent: Hi
Kevin: So I was just wo–
*Roll credits* - Avaseal, on 04/08/2009, -2/+13/agree
Next thing he's gonna tell us is that he didn't know that the pumpkins used the Doom explosion sound effect in Where Boys Fear to Tread, off the MCIS album. - mcnasby, on 04/08/2009, -0/+11I think he was imagining an ubiquitous, pervasive music platform of sorts. Not the Zune/Napster approach ridden with DRM, which is tied to device constraints.
For anyone that hasn't had the liberty of trying out Spotify, it's really the future of streaming/subscription based music. Unfortunately US record labels aren't comfortable opening up such a large collection of music to a service that can essentially act as that ubiquitous and pervasive music platform. Trent was right on in saying, industry wide -- the next wave of music business innovation won't happen for years to come. Truly unfortunate. - jacobo, on 04/08/2009, -1/+12nah! kevin rose with paper? is like oprah with a computer. i like the computer thing concept.
- maloventevil, on 04/08/2009, -3/+13The business model Trent was mentioning... Isn't that the subscription model being used by Zune / Napster?
