- davecskul, on 05/24/2008, -2/+20Comcast sucks!
- stevinium, on 05/24/2008, -1/+19Comcast sucks, they lure you in then start overcharging you a little bit at a time so you don't notice.
- mark076h, on 05/24/2008, -2/+15comcast does ***** suck, i am looking into getting a seedbox because of the ***** 40KB/sec upload speed they give me, its hard to keep a good share ratio.
- inactive, on 05/24/2008, -0/+12COM *****!
- bixby1, on 05/24/2008, -4/+15I always thought comcast cable cared about me and my needs? no?
- scotticus, on 05/24/2008, -0/+10except as a nation we've decided that they should have access to broadband and we've given the cable providers money to provide it.
- paulmer2003, on 05/24/2008, -0/+8I wonder which areas in California are being sold.
- inactive, on 05/24/2008, -3/+10It's Craptastic ! ! !
- JesusHimself, on 05/24/2008, -2/+9***** THING SUCKS!
- Xizer, on 05/24/2008, -0/+6"In Maine, the most logical buyer for Comcast subsidiaries is Time Warner Cable Inc., which serves 85 percent of Maine, including areas surrounding the 11 municipalities Comcast hopes to bow out of, Goran said."
Maine residents got lucky today. - witcompe, on 05/24/2008, -0/+5Lucky bastards! I wish Comcast would sell my account to another company... probably could not be worse.
- singleton, on 05/24/2008, -0/+5Typical Digg user, jumping on every "***** _____" bandwagon even if they have no idea what they're talking about.
- cledford, on 05/24/2008, -0/+4Boo comcast!
- PopcornDave, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3The irony is going to be when the people who Comcast sell start seeing ads on their tv to switch to Comcast.
- boodog, on 05/24/2008, -2/+5Dropping the country folks! There is just not enough of a population to serve that makes economic sense. Sucks to be them - using dial up or Direct TV satellite Internet.
- LethalGeek, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3So far Verizon hasn't gone mucking with people's connections for using too much bandwidth. Also I just haven't heard of them being piss poor at their jobs.
- woofers07, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3As a comcast subscriber, I'll be getting Verizon FiOS the second my living arrangements allow.
- TheG2, on 05/24/2008, -0/+3I have FIOS in NH, and its great.
- xdevit, on 05/24/2008, -2/+5So your saying you like holding your ankles.
- Hosalabad, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2Are these small markets a result of the Adelphia buyout?
- SavageIndustrie, on 07/25/2009, -0/+2Who's going to buy it up? At&t or Verizon? Any takers?
- twst1up, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2show me one corporation that does
- Betrayer, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2Why cant it be my city... i dont want comcast anymore!
- Ryan2845, on 05/24/2008, -1/+3Upgrade your service? I can seed around 100KB/s with comcast...
- codo678, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2Yeah, probably the super rural areas like way north of SF and like that. I don't seeing them give up SF and Sacramento(there isn't anyone else in Sacramento proper for cable AFAIK outlying has CharterWave and smaller ones including SureWest but in the City its ComCast) as long as they don't invade my town I'm cool.
- shadoweva09, on 05/24/2008, -1/+3I wish a similar thing would happen for Time Warner and their new guide. Any of you other people have a guide that crashes, corrupts all program information, and randomly changes channels when using it? (or is just slow as hell and unresponsive enough to make it hard to change to a channel with more than 1 digit in it?)
- cerealjynx, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Wouldn't be surprised if the Comcast in my rinky-dinky town is on the list. Funny, they had just bought Adelphia out last year.
- RIPtechtv, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2I live in a smaller city in LA county. Its a nightmare. I live here in Southeast LA county. Here I got a paper in the mail saying FIOS was coming to my area around 2 years ago and still to this day nothing. I wouldn't trust them anyways as my DSL went out after an epic storm in December of 2005. Not to mention have talked with people who work at verizon and they tell me that they ignore the area and we have ragtag speeds. On the basic DSL package I have never had a download speed of mine get past 180 KBPS down and 40 KBPS up. It doesn't help that they give me a very old modem that Westell no longer supports and my friend down the street its even worse with around 75 down and 25 up. Nearly imposable to keep a share ratio. We only have Charter Communications. I have the old analog cable that has never gave me to many problems but people who have digital its another story. It goes out all the time. Its so bad they have a thing on the local government accuses station telling you that Charter Cable must due this and that and if they don't call the number on the screen to complain. The city council has said before it was a mistake giving them a contract to exclusive rights to this area.
- funkyloki, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Probably Northern, and I mean REAL northern, not the Bay Area. AS mentioned in TFA, it looks as if Comcast is only doing this to more outlying areas.
- haxcorner, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2I wish they had FiOS where I live...
- haxcorner, on 05/24/2008, -1/+33 years ago I was a sales contractor for Comcast & other cable companies - in a city of about 120,000 the sentiment towards Comcast was about 60% negative for various reasons, though the biggest gripes were billing. Either people owed Comcast money or they were unhappy with the limited-time promotions (1 month-18months).
I had Comcast for about 2 years myself - telephone customer support was crap in most cases, but where I lived the internet was reliable & dependable (read: nearly excellent most of the time). I didn't really watch the TV too much, though.
I've also used Millennium (now Broadstripe), Charter and Insight - Maybe it's the fact that Comcast caters to somewhat larger cities, but these other service providers' internet services sucked. Also, the pricing with Comcast was better for internet alone (in terms of speed offered) than these other cable providers offered, at least in the Michigan/Indiana cities that I worked/lived in.
Hopefully the people who lose Comcast don't drop from an 8Mb connection @ $65 to a 3Mb connection @ $97, though... - ajb2015, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2I live in maine and comcast bought my local cable provider a few years ago, i seriously hope they are going to sell "me" back to a better provider.
- Schmapdi, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Man I wish Comcast would sell us. My area just swapped got swapped from Insight a few months ago (April iirc) and Comcast has already raised the prices on like everything by 2 dollars. Glad I have DSL instead of cable for internet.
- nuclearpenguins, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2Maine is ***** awesome and I will not hear otherwise.
- tradderjohn, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Cox think Charlottesville, PLEASE.
I WANT $10 month basic cable back. - timeisapear, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1boo COCmast!
- silverleaves, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1I hate comcast and since I just got a letter from att I guess they are taking over their cable. This doesn't mean it will work better. They will still are using the same cable that's in place.
- schoate09, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1No, they don't. Comcast is it's own corporation.
- chodges4, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1do you like lobster?
- funkyloki, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1I feel sorry for those in Maine then, because TFA says that the subscribers in Maine will probably end up with TW as their provider.
- Barovelli, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1A thought.
The gov'ment says Comcast cannot own xx number of subscribers. Comcast would like to own them all, but the Fcc (big F, little cc..) says nay nay.
So if Comcast wants to return more $$ to shareholders, it's time to trim off the areas that are not profitable enough or would cost too much to upgrade. Leave them to the up and coming companies, or sell them to neighboring systems - TWC has most of Maine, why not make them all TWC?
So they do what sounds logical. Sell off crappy systems they got in acquisitions, and put the money to better use. Can't wait for DOCSIS 3. - kickingback77, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Have some friends down in Florida who use Cox.net and have had amazing luck with them. In fact I hear they are adding the ability to use cell phones over your broadband wifi network at home, read here- http://www.pbn.com/stories/36006.html. Of course Cox is not yet strongly in California, guess you will have to wait.
http://www.helinet.com - faultlinedesign, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1It sounds like they are eliminating areas which won't be able to change over to digital when the conversion starts next year. More info: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/04/digi ...
- DarkJedi375, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Meanwhile, residents of Chicago will still bow to the bloodsucking bastards known as Comcast. They pray that Fios will soon break these chains.
- crazyjake, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1wow, reading the title i was hoping that this article was going to be related to some sort of human trafficking... :(
- thedez, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Trust me, there's ALWAYS somebody worst.
- phantom_mullet, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1HOORAY BEER
- transplant42, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1As bad as Comcast is, just pray that Suddenlink doesn't buy out your local contract. They bought out the Cox contract here in rural Oklahoma, and it was nothing but downhill from there. Their whole mantra is to buy out an unprofitable area and make it profitable by cutting back the "extras" like customer service and overloading their network with too many customers. When they switched from Cox to Suddenlink control of the cable internet customers in my area, they were down for 10 of the first 14 days. I switched to DSL 2 days into the outage, but my friends who decided to stay have had nothing but horrible support and frequent outages since then (over 2 years ago). Check out their D- score on broadbandreports and other customer horror stories if you need more evidence.
- ajb2015, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1seriously, i love living here. have you ever been to maine "BJ"?
