- alanocu, on 11/03/2009, -0/+34I would like to take a moment to say that Comcast sucks. I called them this morning to ask why my Internet connection was performing at dial-up speeds. The first person somehow managed to shut down all of my services - my phone, the internet and cable tv. So after making my way to a pay phone, because I lost my mobile phone last night, it took 2 hours after the call to get my services restored. And switching to RCN is a bitch. Comcast has me between a rock and hard place.
- urbanetruth, on 11/03/2009, -0/+34one media company to rule them all
content + provider = less competition, bad for consumers - inactive, on 11/03/2009, -0/+25Comcast is definitely a crappy company. I hate them like poison.
- Ribald_Jester, on 11/03/2009, -0/+21Why is the FTC letting this merger happen? Why would a content carrier (cable) be allowed to own a content producer (NBC). A super mega corp is not good for competition.
- rwbrinso, on 11/03/2009, -1/+20Comcast is competent enough to do the following as soon as the deal goes through:
1. Make Hulu a pay site
2. Cancel 30 Rock and the Office
3. Give Jay Leno another show - Homerr, on 11/03/2009, -0/+16Every single time Comcast buys something my rates go up and service goes down.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/03/2009, -0/+14This doesn't highlight the need for net neutrality legislation with teeth at all.
Nope, not one bit. - YoWhatDaFuxUp, on 11/03/2009, -0/+13Will we see bit throttling of non-NBC webcontent?
- AwesomeDeluxe, on 11/03/2009, -0/+11***** Comcast.
- varmit, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9This is bad for everyone else providing TV services. Comcast already ask for an arm and a leg from DirecTV for Versus, and DirecTV turned them down. Which means I miss out on Hockey games due to DirecTV not giving in to Comcasts rate hike. Now NBC is going possibly going to get dropped too ask Comcast hikes up the rates for that channel too. Isn't this a monopoly thing going on here, or at least the start of it. As urbanetruth said, its anti competitive at least and very bad for consumers.
- dafragsta, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9The same reason all the Bells are back together again. The government is good cop to big business' bad cop.
- Elranzer, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5NBC... now EXCLUSIVE on Comcast Cable!
- luisortiz, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5Say goodbye to free Hulu. As soon as Comcast takes over, they'll plug a hole in that revenue leak for their cable business.
- Jonjonr6, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4This is exactly what I figured would happen a long time ago.
Tel-Comm partners or merges with major TV network and major movie studio.
Then provides a complete package of services including online TV and movie libraries on-demand.
Not that you can't get on-demand movies, and watch TV via the web now, but I figure they could take it a step further, and you'd have like on-demand for even TV shows (without a DVR), and you could "buy" a movie that you could watch any time without paying any additional rental fees. - k3rfuffl3, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4This is specifically why anti-trust was created. The railroads bought the steel companies and competition suffered.

"The purpose of the act was to oppose the combination of entities that could potentially harm competition" - Wabem, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
- Crimeodial, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3ha. I work Cablevision. All i hear all day is how much we suck, so it's nice to a good review.
- robEstyles, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4Other than not having the NFL Network I actually have no problems with Cablevision. For the first time ever in my life I'm happy with my cable provider. Used to have Comcast for 15 years so ***** them
- clickmyface, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3FCC also
- urbanetruth, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3You know it's gonna happen. Luckily, they only have one NFL game per week.
- deathandtaverns, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2NBC is so going to pull out of Hulu now since Hulu is one of the reasons I don't buy cable TV service.
- estrategy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2They should go after Sprint and Clearwire next. The mobile Tsunami needs Comcast to fill the mobile coverage gaps in 2/3 of the US homes in the that AT&T, T-Mobile & Verizon can't fill.
- slvrbullet87, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Hey comcast work someting out about VS with other providers. I want to watch my ***** Blackhawks games and you dont cover my area
- quickname, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Digg community needs to rise up and put an end to this *****. Contact the FTC!!!
- tourettes1992, on 11/03/2009, -4/+5More like Commiecast...
- Jeegus21, on 11/03/2009, -2/+3Maybe I've just lucked out, but I have never had any problems with Comcast. Last month I just called them up and renegotiated a new promotion for the next 6 months because it was too expensive. They will usually work with you. Get 16mb internet and every premium channel for $110 a month right now. Usually just call them every 6 months and do that same. I'm in Philly though may make a difference.
- Elranzer, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1I used to have Cablevision in my area, but Time Warner paid them to move out and let them move in.
Honestly, Road Runner internet is nice, but I do miss Cablevision. TWC is prohibitively expensive for what it is, and the HD channels are just too noticeably compressed to be enjoyable. - plutonium28, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1Weyland-Yutani
- robEstyles, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1I heard horror stories when I moved and had to get Cablevision but really I haven't had a problem and I get a free movie ticket every Tuesday woooo
- reaper527, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1i didn't have have any issues with comcast for the 20 years that i was with them, then all of a sudden they started calling about bandwidth usage and threatening to terminate my service. i beat them to the punch and switched to fios after their threats.
things are changing at comcast, and not for the better - reaper527, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1no argument there. as a corporation, they suck, but fortunately their internet/tv division seems to be much better than their cell phone division. at the current time, i really am getting the unlimited bandwidth i was promised by verizon, as opposed to a threatening phone call for using the unlimited bandwidth i was promised by comcast.
verizon is the lesser of two evils - didntlisten, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1All hail comcast (plus GE ( plus NBC))
- plainOldFool, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1I would consider FiOS but Verizon is a pretty ***** organization as well.
- YoctoYotta, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1It's a shame how much Comcast's quality of service differs across the U.S. I live in the Seattle area and have had Comcast internet in four different cities up here over the last 6 years or so, and their service has been nothing but rock solid aside from that DNS debacle that occurred a few years back. I always feel like a POS defending them, but I can't imagine how an ISP could possibly provide any better of service other than faster throughput (which FiOS definitely provides).
On a side note, I've noticed that any issues I've ever had with slow internet speeds always has originated from inside my home (something a reset of my router, NIC, Windows, etc. fixed), Did you do any troubleshooting on your side or just assume it was Comcast. It's no excuse for their stupid customer service, but I'm just curious. - Jeegus21, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1Why would I get dugg down for sharing my experience?
- clickmyface, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1NBC won't exclusively broadcast on Comcast. NBC currently broadcasts over the air and through 200 independent affiliates nationwide to 99% of homes in the US.
To get the same 99% viewership, Comcast would have to buy out every cable infrastructure in the country along with massive amounts of the broadcast spectrum. Something they cant afford, and something the FCC has never even come close to doing. - plainOldFool, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1I am fully prepared for mass buries, but I really haven't had any issues with Comcast for the 4+ years I've been with them.
- wangalicious, on 11/03/2009, -5/+1I hope Hulu goes pay so it can (hopefully) fail. Last thing I want is a stodgy old company controlling the new medium for television shows. I'd rather a fresh company with fresh ideas provide.
