So say we all. - Rollic, on 11/06/2008, -2/+56Oh dear lord, Adama and Roslin alone could smoke everyone from the old series. Plus who knew that Cylon nudity could be so awesome? New series - all the way.
- Ghostalker, on 11/06/2008, -2/+41The old BSG had:
32 known turbo-lasers and fusion missiles
The new BSG has:
+506 point-defense guns
24 primary dual cannons
12 missile tubs loaded with nukes and ship to ship missiles
~80 Vipers after Pegasus was destroyed
+20 Raptors
Nude Cylons
It'd be a nice fight.... just like Mohammad Ali vs Anti-Lock brakes. - bruins72, on 11/06/2008, -3/+37New BSG all the way. I loved the old BSG when I was a kid but it was cheesy Sci-Fi. The new BSG is by no means cheesy and it's not limited to being viewed just as Sci-Fi.. It's so much more than that.
- seansmyth, on 11/06/2008, -2/+23The new series was killer. No contest. Although, disappointed there was no comparison of that dumb robot dog from the first series. Don't know what it would be, tho.
- CoreyTamas, on 11/07/2008, -4/+25I really got into the new BSG so, on a lark, I checked out the old show. I enjoyed it a lot when I was 8 or 9, so I figured that I might get at least a sliver of the thrill I once did by revisiting a classic.
The result: I couldn't stand more than 5 minutes before I had to turn it off. Not "wanted to". HAD to.
Never again. BSG 2.0 all the way. - gberkshire, on 11/07/2008, -2/+22New.
Two words: Frakkin toasters. - MindTrigger, on 11/07/2008, -3/+18Not only has the new series blown the old one away, but it has nuked most tv shows across all genres.
- dannychen16, on 11/07/2008, -3/+18the writers seem to forget that the old one sucked.
- CoreyTamas, on 11/07/2008, -0/+14Dugg for "Mohammad Ali vs Anti-Lock brakes."
That's going to be my new favorite saying to overuse as much as possible. - sitryd, on 11/07/2008, -1/+13New - bc of Richard Hatch.
And, you know, everything else that smokes the old series. - Alias1431, on 11/07/2008, -3/+14How is this even a ***** question??
- Acclr8, on 11/07/2008, -5/+16"You know it's weird. It's pretty much a shot for shot remake"
- moredown, on 11/06/2008, -8/+18Either way its Battlestar
- 12916studios, on 11/07/2008, -3/+13How the writers of that thing picked "old" that often is absolutely beyond me. The new has blown the old's frakking toaster ass out of the water so hard so many times it's actually kind of scary.
- freezerburn666, on 11/07/2008, -1/+11so say we all!
- Medicamusic, on 11/07/2008, -3/+12Bears.
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -3/+12New is far better, this list sucks.
- AGONYTUESDAY, on 11/07/2008, -3/+12new BSG. no competition. only in the new BSG are toasters hot.
- afidler, on 11/07/2008, -0/+9Quit stealing company time, Dwight.
- mofw, on 11/06/2008, -2/+10What, no comparisons of the Cylon Basestars. :(
Personally I'm inclined to give it to the new BSG - gravelocity, on 11/06/2008, -3/+11Well, we must factor in the cost of maintaining the collective hair of each cast. New BSG, much more economical meaning less shampoo, less conditioner, less hairspray/products. So just being enviro conscious alone the new BSG wins. Oh and also (whisper) it's a way better storyline.
- cutchyacokov, on 11/07/2008, -0/+7WHY OH WHY ISN'T IT JANUARY YET? I can take the cold + extra to get new episodes of BSG.
- freezerburn666, on 11/07/2008, -3/+9re-imagined is amazing..... i cant watch the classic ones they don't interest me very much.
- 12916studios, on 11/07/2008, -0/+6You're gonna get your ass dugg waaay down for saying that, methinks.
- InvisibleInk, on 11/07/2008, -0/+6I hate websites that don't let you back out.
- datagod, on 11/07/2008, -1/+6I love the new one so much I want to live there forever.
- shortyme, on 11/07/2008, -3/+8New BSG all the way. No one is better than Edward James Olmos!!!
- Achaean, on 11/07/2008, -0/+5mmm, cylon boobies...
- Evilblobs, on 11/07/2008, -3/+8New BSG because its a respectable and pretty-damn-good TV drama, not a campy bowl-cut Sci-Fi
- BossKey, on 11/07/2008, -2/+7The old one was a waste of time. I was into it because I was a little kid, but even back then all my friends and I knew that it was not fit to share a universe with Star Wars.
I know, I know, Glen A. "gadget show" Larson had a script for Galactica before Star Wars, but after Star Wars came out they tried to latch onto the craze by over-adapting their original idea to make it look more like Star Wars. All that did was make it look like a Star Wars copy. Instead of going all John McCain on it like they did, selling their true soul for glory, I'll bet I would have liked it more if they had stuck to their own ideas.
Seeing the old series again on the retro network, I am struck by two things: How good the production values (lighting, camera work) were on Galactica compared to other shows (they poured money into it, which is a large reason it had to be cancelled), and the plots were cheeseball as all hell. Even compared to Star Trek TOS. - Jibberwalk, on 11/07/2008, -0/+5Definetly buy the DVDs or rent them off Netflix. Personally, I'd say buy... just because the series is the sort of thing you can watch over and over again. Don't torrent them. A show this decent deserves our piddly dimes. I'll be re-buying them when I finally plunk down for a PS3 (blurayz).
And you're right. It's definitely not the sort of series you want to watch out of order. Watching a later episode before the ones prior might casually give away a huge spoiler without you even realizing it. It would totally ruin the first-run experience.
And yes... that scene you saw... the whole show is that well done. It's visceral, in your face... and there are no green women. It's all very "real." - inactive, on 11/07/2008, -2/+7I never saw all of the Old BSG, but I KNOW that the old Baltar didn't become a Christ figure that gets more ass than a toilet seat.
New BSG, on account of at least one BUNK decision by the site. - afidler, on 11/07/2008, -2/+6New BSG, hands down. Perhaps watching the original when it was "new" might have made a difference in my opinion, but my experience of the new vs. the old is a landslide new BSG victory.
- arcangelgabriel, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4OH THANK YOU for your insightful commentary. By the way, we're looking for a poster child to promote abortions in the 185th trimester, interested?
- Tyrghast, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4Praise the Lords of Kobol
- stinkybrinker, on 11/07/2008, -1/+5Apples and Oranges.... the new series is everything that has been (positively) progressive in ScFi. I appreciate a good "cheese factor", but the new series hits upon the ideastorylineparadigm (what is the word I am looking for?) far more succinctly than the original ever did. How *do* you answer such an obviously subjective question?
- cutchyacokov, on 11/07/2008, -1/+5There is only one true God. Now excuse me while I ***** my imaginary friend.
- MindTrigger, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4buy or rent them all. watch them in order. go to rehab.
- sitryd, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4The episode was "valley of darkness", from season 2 of the new battlestar. The quality of the show only improves from there. The first season is a bit slow at times, but once you get to the second half of season 2 you'll be hooked (if you aren't already)
- an0nym0us, on 11/07/2008, -0/+4It's simple. whoever has the hottest chicks, win.
- Jibberwalk, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3Hulu has the full Classic BSG streaming. So long as you're American.
http://www.hulu.com/battlestar-galactica-classic
Also, turn off you're adblock, or movies no worky well. - MikeXpop, on 11/07/2008, -7/+10Well the new one is an almost shot-for-shot remake, isn't it? Or was Dumbledore Calrissian not in the first one?
- afidler, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3Beets.
- Unrealevil, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3The old one was great in a classic, Star Trek-y way, but the new one is everything a modern day space drama should be, and more. More complicated as well, although the three extra seasons are a big help in that area.
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -1/+4i still hate the new Starbuck : (
- GKaushik, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3what a superficial comparison of BSG 1.0 and 2.0.
- omnithought, on 11/07/2008, -1/+4Grace Park....there is no more win than that.
- cutchyacokov, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3*****! I love the new BSG and Zarek (Balthar is the best, though) but nothing beats the Picard facepalm NOTHING!!!!
- Mujokan, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3Thanks guys (except for the spammer, who is reported).
