- mistahroth, on 12/25/2008, -15/+93It's a pretty entertaining show, some of you need to lighten up a bit :P.
Does all comedy have to be intelligent to be funny? - AmyVernon, on 12/25/2008, -1/+63Well, it is consistently in the top 20 shows on TV, in the Nielsen ratings. Not saying I necessarily agree, just sayin' ...
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -10/+70Is this where smug Diggers tell us about how uneducated the unwashed masses are and how much better their own personal taste in TV is (even though if you ask them, they don't watch TV. But they clicked and commented on a thread about a TV show they hate anyway)?
- pHreaksYcle, on 12/25/2008, -20/+77A lot of it is funny *****.
- jedisushi, on 12/25/2008, -16/+72Screw you guys, I really like Two and a Half Men.
- Amadeus2490, on 12/25/2008, -1/+54I want to ***** Rose.
- CreamySmooth, on 12/25/2008, -6/+54I didnt know there was so much resentment over this show. I found it ***** funny after a few bowls. The fact its on 24 times a day might be the reason though?
- doublefelix, on 12/25/2008, -11/+47I just used google to find a specific quote from the show and the only result to come up was one of my comments from an old digg thread. So I am going to re-gift it: I thought the episode where Charlie has a one night stand with a goth chick and wakes up to find a pentagram carved into his stomach hilarious. "Does this mean I am Jewish now...?"
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -2/+37A sitcom doesn't last for 6 seasons without being successful. Now, that being said, it pains me to see shows like this prosper while shows like Arrested Development are canned after 3.
- harlowsmonkeys, on 12/25/2008, -4/+35It is an hilarious show. A lot of Diggers don't like it because they are insecure about their self-perceived intelligence, and so are afraid to embrace anything that the common man might find funny, lest they too appear to be common rather than elite.
I guarantee that if you hang around very smart people who are not insecure about being smart, you'll find they watch shows like this, and enjoy them. - a1cd, on 12/25/2008, -4/+35Its a hit show because there is a hot chick in every episode
- g33b33, on 12/25/2008, -5/+35I like this show AND Arrested Development.
- DjOverEZ, on 12/25/2008, -5/+35The adamant opposition to the show here has affirmed to me that is can be lumped into the long list of things Diggers think is cool to hate. Along with Microsoft, Christians and Mr.BabyMan.
- WhoRadley, on 12/25/2008, -4/+33Says the guy with a character from South Park as his icon...
- drgmdp, on 12/25/2008, -2/+30diggers hate the show because it's about a guy who's not very clever and yet it gets pussy in a daily basis.
envy. - borez, on 12/25/2008, -5/+33About as much as Alan owes in rent.
OMG I've just let the world know how sad I am. - Super6, on 12/25/2008, -1/+23I don't judge but I think that's illegal in many states.
- rsHoratio, on 12/25/2008, -1/+23a new hot slutty chic each episode?
- mistergoomba, on 12/25/2008, -0/+20Warner needs to make up for its loss to Fox
- dext3r, on 12/25/2008, -4/+24This show isn't as bad as most diggers make it sound, but its pretty standard sitcom fare.
- campigenus, on 12/25/2008, -3/+23What's the weather like, up there on your high horse?
- wo0dy, on 12/25/2008, -3/+23This show has its moments, I am a fan.
- Jeepinator, on 12/25/2008, -3/+22I probably comment more on stuff I don't like.
- cle2105, on 12/25/2008, -2/+20Almost anything is funny after a few bowls
- tnoy, on 12/25/2008, -2/+20You must not understand the proper method of stalking.
- jocknerd, on 12/25/2008, -0/+17I'm a fan of both although I agree that Arrested Development was definitely a "smarter" sitcom. This show is funny but in a dumber sort of way.
- rsHoratio, on 12/25/2008, -2/+17bowls of cocopuffs? thats a great cereal!
- da_bradler, on 12/25/2008, -1/+15I wish they made her a regular again, she just randomly pops up from time to time, her charecter doesn't really make any sense anymore since she is apparently still stalking Charlie but only shows up every 10 episodes or so.
- twiztidsinz, on 12/25/2008, -3/+17In their defense... you are an unwashed mass.
- fretslide, on 12/25/2008, -59/+73"Hit Sitcom'??.
Buried for spreading delusion.......... - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -2/+15Well he hit puberty,he cant be cute forever.
- Akaziel, on 12/25/2008, -3/+16I've tried watching it...it's not AS BAD as Diggers make it out to be, but it is pretty stupid. It's got some funny jokes here and there. It feels incredibly scripted. At no point do I believe the actors are their characters. They just feel like they're reading a script. But that said, I'm not gonna claim I've never laughed at it. It's kinda funnyish. I'd never go "Oh! Two And A Half Men is on! I better go watch!", but if there's nothing else on I don't mind watching it for a bit.
The only two sitcoms I can watch right now are The Office (which I like a lot, but I think kinda got stale and is mining the office romance soap opera bit a little too much), and How I Met Your Mother, which I think is hilarious. It, too, is kinda growing stale in its fourth season, but it's getting better. Barney Stinson > Dwight Schrute in my book. - andrewlotta, on 12/25/2008, -4/+16Just because YOU don't like the show doesn't mean it's not a hit.
- g33b33, on 12/25/2008, -4/+16Charlie Sheen is a demigod.
- WhoDoneIt, on 12/25/2008, -1/+13No, he's referring to playing cricket, surely he is.
- SquigglyP, on 12/25/2008, -3/+14I think there IS something wrong with that. This PC ***** where everyone's opinion matters all the time is nonsense. Pandering to the lowest common denominator simply because there are more morons than intelligent people out there is not a good idea in the long run. However, this is really nothing new at all. When film was first invented, the biggest hits were strip teases and comedy shorts involving a lot of falling down stairs and throwing mud/food/other messy things at each other. Before that Vaudville was the big showbiz sensation. People could have gone to see any number of musicals or dramatic plays, but they would rather see some skanky bitch sing and dance, a juggler and a monkey and other equally retarded amusements.
Any past time that doesn't require much thought has always been the most popular form of entertainment back to the Gladiator battles in Rome and earlier. I'd lump most sports into that pile as well. It's not that people are too stupid to enjoy quality entertainment, they just can't be bothered to think for that long. They aren't used to it.
This is why the most popular ***** is almost always the worst ***** out there, it's the reason Digg sucks now, it's why full-fledged democracy fails and why this country was not set up as a democracy, and it's why there are whole industries that rely on this phenomenon to make money. They need people to remain the way they are to keep in business, and this is why they continue to shovel out so much worthless garbage. Hell, if people wised up a little bit FOX would be entirely out of business, save their Searchlight branch, which is the only redeeming feature of that studio.
And I think the surprise element is not really the most important thing in comedy. If that were the case then you could say roughly the same thing for Horror films, and yet most of the crap horror films made now are nothing but things jumping out and going "boo!" all the time. Monty Python wasn't about surprise and it's arguably one of the funniest shows ever made. They did a lot of unexpected things, but they would often continue to go on and on with one gag. The Spanish Inquisition for instance. Sure, it was funny when they first came out, but the characters are what really sold that sketch. They went on for 5 or 6 minutes with that bit. If it had been all about the surprise of them just popping out, then the joke would have been over ten seconds after they did that bit and the next 5 minutes would have just been dull.
Maybe that's why many people don't 'get' Monty Python. - EvilCan, on 12/25/2008, -2/+12The sitcom is not dead.
- Louis11, on 12/25/2008, -2/+11You smug bastard.
- ator1, on 12/25/2008, -1/+10I could enjoy Three's Company after a few bowls, and I hate that show.
- dlrudden, on 12/25/2008, -3/+12Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, and My Name is Earl say hi.
- MScrip, on 12/25/2008, -1/+9Good thing Charlie Sheen is still on the show... 'member him?
Jon Cryer is OK... but Berta is the funniest! I like Ryan Stiles too - siobhankeogh, on 12/25/2008, -0/+8Let's be realistic, though. Would a guy who dresses like Charlie ever get pussy?
- Lst01, on 12/25/2008, -0/+8King of Queens isn't on anymore.
- bubbameister33, on 12/26/2008, -1/+8Que audience laughter.HaHaHaHa.......Cut to H2 commercial.
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -7/+14***** off, elitist prick.
- Barackalypse, on 12/25/2008, -0/+7I'm a bit concerned that they managed to rack up $49 million in losses on a "hit" sitcom. Is this some sort of accounting trick like the kind the record labels and movie studios use to avoid paying their percentage of the profits, or did they legitimately lose money producing this?
- shugdoo, on 12/25/2008, -3/+10I agree that the sitcom is done as a genre until another Garry Shandling/Seinfeld-esque innovation occurs. The Simpsons remains the only consistent scripted comedy in play, which is pretty dang ponderous.
- inactive, on 12/26/2008, -0/+7I agree with you but the show is still very good. It is better now than it was in the first seasons.
- inactive, on 12/26/2008, -0/+7One of the show's plus.
- Akaziel, on 12/26/2008, -0/+7I don't know which of those two words I hate more.
