- artificialgrey, on 01/17/2008, -1/+52There goes one of the few advantages to being blind...
- thumbup, on 01/17/2008, -4/+36Damn I feel bad for them...American Idol..
- kazoomaloo, on 01/17/2008, -2/+31Now the mentally impaired and the visually impaired will have something to talk about.
- Sharky35, on 01/17/2008, -1/+20Genetically, I am pre-disposed to Macular Degeneration. So it's good to know that in 30 years I'll be able to play Call of Duty 12: WWIII; and see what I'm doing. Hopefully, X-box live will be fixed by then as well.
- entrophize, on 01/17/2008, -1/+17I think I'd RATHER be blind if I had to watch that awful show.
- TheAngryMob, on 01/17/2008, -0/+14That would just be cruel and unusual punishment.
- usrlocalbin, on 01/17/2008, -0/+14If it wasn't about seeing, why would the Coca-Cola brand be plastered on EVERYTHING?
- prp40, on 01/17/2008, -0/+9For real. Hearing it is bad enough. When my wife watches that show I honestly envy the deaf.
- Speed, on 01/17/2008, -2/+10American Idol? Haven't they suffered enough?
- SailRacer, on 01/17/2008, -1/+9Bringing it to the musically impaired already isn't enough? How many more must suffer?
- dinobot, on 01/17/2008, -1/+9Wait a min, they're already suffering of a horrible degenerative condition and someone wants to make 'em suffer even more?
- inactive, on 01/17/2008, -1/+8Regular TV programming is bad enough, but American Idol is the absolute epitome of garbage programming.
- SemiSarcastic, on 01/17/2008, -2/+9Just when you thought stabbing out your eyes would end your misery that is American Idol...
- SuperVepr308, on 01/17/2008, -0/+7Hopefully they will stop right there and at least the hearing impaired will still be able to smile
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+8No, please, spare them.
- zmikez, on 01/17/2008, -0/+5Why? Oh the horror of it all!
- searcade, on 01/17/2008, -0/+4How old are you?
- edwartica, on 01/17/2008, -1/+5I'm sorry, I can't refer to American Idol as "music."
- Sharky35, on 01/17/2008, -0/+436
- Daniel591992, on 01/17/2008, -0/+4Don't forget Ford!
- searcade, on 01/17/2008, -1/+4Ah, 66 and playing X-box live, :P
- Misaiato, on 01/17/2008, -3/+6Blind people's votes should count double. They can cut through the makeup and tell the talented singers from the idols.
- Flatlineskillz, on 01/17/2008, -1/+4My grandfather has very bad macular degeneration and I would rather see more effort put into helping him see his grandchildren then american idol. He does use a reading machine that connects to his television and this tech could help with that so Keep up the good work.
- Hawkeye05, on 01/17/2008, -1/+4And the suicide rates for the blind quintuple
- prp40, on 01/17/2008, -1/+4I'd rather be deaf.
- couldbjerry, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2This is really a good bit of news for people with macular degeneration. Some have chosen to turn this into a discussion about American Idol, or find humor in it, which shows what a short attention span they have.
- PopcornDave, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2I always wondered why I never saw any still pictures, or even calendars, from American Idol.
- prp40, on 01/17/2008, -1/+3That would be classified as torture. Cruel, unforgiving, despicable torture..........
- robopuppy, on 01/17/2008, -1/+3I actually watched about 5 minutes of the show last night because my gf and her bro were watching while I was trying to burn a DVD. The entire 5 minute portion of the show was dedicated to making fun of this girl, not just because she couldn't sing, but because she wasn't attractive, excitable, or extroverted. It was ***** disgusting and made me want to kill Seacrest when he had the audacity to continue to torment the girl after she had been kicked off. I had to leave the room and punch the mattress to avoid destroying the TV and pissing my gf and her brother off.
Of course there was the opposite of her; a very attractive, happy girl who couldn't sing. She had a model for a husband. They had nothing to say about anything other than how awful her singing was, and congratulated them on their attractiveness a million ***** times before finally kicking them out. I guess it's not OK to make fun of the obviously full of themselves attractive couple for being egotistical idiots, but it is OK to make fun of a less attractive girl with no ego whatsoever because she's not extroverted.
Now EVERYONE gets to tune in as Simon, Seacrest, and the rest of the ***** Idol crew ridicule and torment people just for being slightly different from the "ideal" American; a complete douchebag. - REUYL, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2Just watch the show; your hearing senses will be numb within the first 10 minutes.
- bitcloud, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1Is this going to help me if I gouged my eyes out watching american idol?
- PopcornDave, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Wouldn't that be just slamming knitting needles in to your eardrums?
- Daniel591992, on 01/17/2008, -1/+2I saw the model one too. Really, she couldn't sing, but I thought Simon didn't want to be beat up by her husband.
- borez, on 01/17/2008, -4/+5"patients with macular degeneration may be able to look forward to settling in for the evening with their digital TVs and American Idol."
And this makes them feel better how exactly? - konspence, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1I think every user has voiced their opinion about how it's more bad than good. We get it. On the other hand, look at the article for its actual technology aspect!
- konspence, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1This story has been hijacked. Almost every comment is about American Idol. Can't we get over the fact that some people actually do like to watch it? Not only that, but it's quite irrelevant to the story
- ParanoidDizzy, on 01/17/2008, -2/+3I can see the researcher pitching the idea now: "I have an idea, guys! Why don't we find a way to show terrible reality TV to the visually impaired!"
- beststrollers, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1http://www.originalmattressfactory.net/aliefmattre ...
- ILikeDucks, on 01/17/2008, -2/+3Why not? Its already a huge hit with the mentally impaired.
- metamorfoza, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1if that was a case, then the contest would be held on radio.
- Archimboldo, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1So far they have only managed to interest the mentally impaired.
- Volkor, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1It's bad enough that they have to listen to it. Why don't we make American Idol touchable, tasteable and smellable while we're at it? Then it can be an assault on all of our senses!
- PopcornDave, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Why discriminate? They do it for the rest of America already.
- dgh1973, on 01/17/2008, -1/+2Because you have to be blind to truly appreciate the show I guess. Wait a minute never mind, you have to be deaf to.
- MothBoy, on 01/17/2008, -0/+0You might want to watch the Antique Idol Channel to learn what a real singer sounds like.
I'll take an Aretha Franklin any day over any cheesecake ex-stripper you want to trot out on Idol. - skews13, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1couldn't this be considered a hate crime, for preying on the handicapped?
- AgmLauncher, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1It's because of American Idol that the visually impaired can consider themselves lucky.
- Spoomeister, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1It's a sad commentary on our society's priorities that the illustrative example on this (very good) research is not "enabling parents to see their kids longer" or "enabling people to be able to drive and read longer", but rather, enabling people to continue to watch a singing contest.
- Evildudetx, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1Yeah, I'd really want to watch that crappy show if I had my sight restored. I can think of a ton of other things I'd rather see......pr0n!!!!!
- Stevethegreat, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1.....so that make them -additionally- mentally impaired (?)
