- sp4rky, on 10/12/2007, -9/+89Whatever you do, do NOT freeze your self in the snow and wait for the time to go by! You'll find yourself calling yourself from the future like Cartman.
- MagicBobert, on 10/12/2007, -16/+78In-fracking-credible. They really turned season 3 around. Great season finale.
- nightsweat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+57Not to spoil it, but who the hell knew DOGS could be Cylons? And the car chase was kinda cool, though I doubt there's that much space in the Galactica in real life.
What surprised me most was that SciFi was willing to show the full frontal lesbian sex scene between the two Cylon chicks without any blurring. - Moose_Head, on 10/12/2007, -10/+57It's in the FRACKING FORUMS!!!
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49I disagree, the best episode ever was the one where they were rescued from new caprica
- mindbender9, on 10/12/2007, -16/+56This might have been one of the best season finales that I've seen yet, on ANY show. The way they integrated the lyrics from the song (All along the watchtower) into the character lines was awesome.
I heard a lot of haterz all season long, but whoof! RDM & Company pulled the third Season together unbelievably well. What a terrific group of BSG writers! Don't lose them to the ***** leftover writing crew of Lost, since they're ready to fire everyone on that show (and rightfully so).
It is going to be unbelievably difficult to wait for 9-10 months for the new season. I can't wait to see what they have planned for the Fourth Season, albeit possibly the last one.
Bravo, RDM. Bravo!!! - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40The other Cylons don't know the identity of the final 5.
If you're going to criticize a programme for plot holes you should at least watch all of it first. - geuisteses, on 10/12/2007, -12/+50well, 1) watch the show :) From the beginning, start with the first miniseries and work your way through.
2) this BSG is way way better than the campy, crappy BSG of yore. Its a gritty character driven story about less than 50,000 people from twelve colonies who are the sole survivors of a collective population of over 50 billion people. They were infiltrated and attacked by the descendants of Cylons, whom their civilization had created as a working class but 50 years before the current timeline, had rebelled in this big badass war. The 2 sides signed an armistice and the cylons withdrew, leaving most of the humans thinking they were gone for good. Much to their surprise, the Cylons developed their own monotheistic religion and evolved into 12 sentient models that look human, down to the cellular level. Being such a young new society, they're sole purpose was revenge against the humans, whom they felt were flawed and undeserving of their God's love, which was the reason behind the genocide.
So throughout the series, the humans have been finding representatives of 7 of the 12 models scattered throughout the fleet, some of which were in very important positions in the military and general society. By the end of last season #2, all 7 models were found, etc.
The humans were following ancient legends about a 13th colony aka Earth. They want to find it, though they have no idea if it even exists or what's there. The Cylons, for some reason only known to them, also want to find it, so they follow the fleet.
The humans found a barely hospitable planet surrounded by a nebula they thought would protect them from discovery, which it almost did. Except for a particular "accident" that destroyed a colonial ship and let off a radiation burst that let the Cylons find them.
During the time leading up to the settlement of this new planet, the Cylon culture has been changing, making them think that at some level the genocide was wrong and God wants both sides to live in piece.
Much like a 5 year old boy doesn't know how to tell a girl he likes her and hits her instead, the Cylons occupy the new planet to "work things out" and the humans resist.
At the beginning of season three, it starts out with the occupation and a lot of gritty story that takes place. Then a few episodes in the remaining fleet that escaped the invasion comes back, guns blazing. Let me just say, Battlestar Galactica(the ship) falling into the atmosphere to break the Cylon blockade and send out Raptor fighters to attack the Cylons on the ground, then warping out at the last possible second before they crash. ***** AWESOME.
Leads into the current season #3, everyone is trying to come to grips with all the bad ***** that happened on the ground, especially around the fact that hundreds of people collaborated with the Cylons for various reasons. Some lynch mob stuff at one point in the fleet, etc.
So a big thing with the Cylons, is that there are 5 models that even they don't know about. They don't talk about them. The humans have NO idea and neither do they.
So, the humans are trying to get everything together, deal with loss thousands of more survivors, loss of equipment, etc. Work strikes start happening because of all the stress, class warfare type stuff. All feeds into the back story how people from different colonies were treated different, as much as we in the US despise people from Alabama or Mississippi as hopelessly backwater, provincial, and uneducated, which unfortunately is true to a large degree.
Starts leading into a big trial of a major character who had won an election for President right before settlement of the planet. He has his own supporters, but pretty much EVERYONE hates him.
So it all leads up to the last 2 episodes which were part 1 & 2. BIG BIG character "dies" apparently of suicide 3 episodes before the end of the season, we're all like WTF? oh ***** thats big.
So last episode, the entire human fleet is 1 jump away from the next big clue as to where Earth is. The trial is coming to a conclusion. Right as they jump in, the entire human fleet loses power. Cylons jump in. Humans are like OMG OMG OMG get the power up, 20 min to jump!
4 really really REALLY important characters keep hearing this song, though no one else can. They all follow it to a room and find out THEY are Cylons too, even after everything that happened. What are they supposed to do? FRAK IT, we're members of this fleet! so they go to their posts and prepare to fight, and will work out what it all means later.
Fleet of raptors launches after power gets back up, one breaks away to follow another raptor that appears mysteriously and isn't identifying itself. Finally meets up with it, finds its the BIG BIG character who says "I've been to Earth. I know where it is. I'm going to take us there."
ALL OF THIS WITH "ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER" PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND. Holy hell, what an amazing, awesome end to the season.
Anyway, that's BSG in a nutshell. You really should watch it. =) - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -18/+56I bet I'm the one thinking "What the FRAK just happened!!!" the hardest considering I didn't watch it and I actually have NO IDEA what the frak just happened.
- thedobber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37
Got a new viper?
Just popped down to the local viper dealer and picked one up? - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37Now that they're picking up transmissions from earth let's hope they steer clear of Omicron Persei 8
- CamiimaC, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35"the Sci-Fi Channel forums are about to come down in flames"
too late. - TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Man, that sucks for the Chief, his wife HATES Cylons. It's going to take a lot of flowers and chocolate to smooth this one over.
- weareallzombies, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30I'm still not buying it. Four of the final five just happen to be people in important positions upon Galactica? I'm putting my money on them being experimented upon on New Caprica and implanted with something that would make them think to be Cylons.
It's going to be a loooooooong nine months. - FizixMan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Plus the point of the zoom-in to Earth was to make sure the audience actually RECOGNIZED it as Earth. Considering that the majority of the audience is North American, and North America itself has many recognizable features, it makes complete sense to have that as the focused area of the planet.
- TheJuggernaut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30...maybe he meant to say Bob Cylon...
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28SPOILER......
Is Starbuck REALLY back, or is she now an "in-head" entity whom only Lee sees? (After all, Starbuck's Viper was also back, after we clearly saw it destroyed.) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28My guess is that the 4 newly self-discovered cylons plus Starbuck are the final 5.
- RichLatherX23, on 10/12/2007, -13/+37Nerd rage is a terrible thing to behold.
- shaolinpunks, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29the star gate movie was before the tv series.
- Stormwulf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Cylon & Garfunkel ftw!
- semiotix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28I couldn't remember either, but apparently it is Dylan's song originally, and someone else made it famous (like a million other Dylan songs). The point being, Bob Dylan is the cylon, not Jimi Hendrix.
Actually, it makes sense. In retrospect the gibberish that the "hybrids" were spouting as they lay there in those pools was pure Dylan. - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Worst. Troll. Ever.
- sock2828, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32I nearly cried when it said continued 2008.
- swgc5, on 10/12/2007, -30/+51Best episode ever in the history of television!
- KnightWhoSaysNi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Since the final five were not affected by the Cylon virus, I guess that means they're physically different from the others.
- Shivetya, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Well the writers did what they had to do, keep you talking. Especially when the next episode won't be till next year! (Which I think is a huge mistake)
- nightsweat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20You have a point and yet you're reading a thread that had about a 1 in a 1,000 chance of not giving something away.
But I am sorry for spoiling the Cylon dog, the car chase, and the Cylon lesbian sex scene - vulcanius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Um.... did you guys even pay attention this season? Three died, her model was "retired."
- NoNom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18It was clean and shiny.
- FizixMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19It seems to me that the four of them weren't "activated" and made aware of their Cylon origins. More like they're jumping to a conclusion that makes sense in their eyes. They may be Cylons, or it may be some other connection. The music is a unique element that wasn't tied to Cylon activation before so it may be completely unrelated.
However, if they are indeed Cylons, then that means there's a second hybrid child!
But consider this. Colonel Tye served with Admiral Adama close to, if not during the original Cylon war. How could he be a hybrid from that long ago? - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23They can't zoom in on EVERY continent.
Why would Europe, Asia or Antarctica be any better? - trilioth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I searched hard for the information on the song, just after watching the episode. Apparently it is Bear McCreary's (the guy who does all of the BSG music) "remix" of Bob Dylan's, "All along the watch tower." I actually like the song. It was the instrumental part, that was obviously added by McCreary, that I liked. I can't wait for the soundtrack to come out. McCreary does excellent work. I had never heard the Bob Dylan version until after that episode. My roommate is a Bob Dylan fan, so I asked him if he had the song so I could hear it. I would much rather listen to the McCreary Remix or the Jimi Hendrix cover for that matter, though I have to give credit to Bob Dylan for writing the song.
- thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Sorry, do we have to edit ourselves for 6-months since we see it first? Why didn't you stop reading once you realized there were spoilers in this thread?
I mean... it's not like there was a warning in the summary or anything............ - nicpedersen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Just because they all hear music doesnt mean they are cylons. I think they are setting up a plot twist.
- crazyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I loved Tigh's reaction when he walked in the room with Tyrol, Anders, and what's her face. He was like "Whoaaaa...."
- Nexus6, on 11/01/2007, -1/+17Greenland isn't visible in the last shot.
And to the other person who thought that California had split away might want to look at a map of Mexico, esp. the bit marked Baja. - kurtwinter, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Anyone know who covered "Watchtower"? While the instrumental was OK (I liked the sitar) the vocals were just crap. I think the guy who sang it also does some jingle work for a nearby car dealer.
- jdog2050, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THAT GREENLAND DOES NOT HAVE ICECAPS IN THE LAST SHOT???!!!
Sorry for caps, but I haven't seen anyone make that comment yet. Seems pretty important as the timeline in which they find earth will either mean a crappy season or an awesome season. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Let see, Tigh was married, was in the first Cylon war, and has known Adama since before the first Cylon war.
Exactly how is he is a Cylon? - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Could be lots of things, could be in his head, but really on Earth. Could be a Cylon. Could have been to earth, met people there and got a new Viper. Could be in his head and dead. Could also be that they're bringing the Seraph and the Ship of Lights from the original series in.
- mythicflux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13My personal theory is that they are going to pull a ship of lights approach.
Establish the idea that the current Cylon models are all based off the original 12 Lords of Kobol who were in fact human beings created by an advanced race of alien 'gods' thousands of years ago. Humanity around that time began to reject their gods and choose to fight back against the Lords of Kobal. The 'gods' got upset with humanity and after a long war, both humanity and the 'gods' came to an agreement where humanity would leave Kobol and never return.
Fast forward a few thousand years. Humanity having forgotten history in favor of a mythos involving their ancient 'gods,' begins developing AI technology which results in the creation of a new race of machines they call Cylons. The Cylons and humanity have a war and this time humanity sends away their machines telling them to never return.
Now where my theory kicks in is that the old 'gods' didn't just cease to be, their technology kept expanding/evolving and they became something similar to the Ship of Lights from the original series (which was a very advanced race that remained hidden yet helped lower societies in secret). I think that the SoL society split, one side refusing to get involved in human affairs directly(only aiding them with their 'Lords'), the second side choosing to favor the advancement of the Cylons by wiping out humanity as revenge for the first war.
If that's the case then we could be having a Count Iblis character emerge as a fallen member of SoL who gave the Cylons the technology to manufacture human forms and download thought into new bodies. Because he was relaying existing technology he gave them the forms for 7 of the original 12 models that they had created. Furthermore, This being passes himself off as only 'God' and convinces the Cylons that the Colonials are worshiping false 'Gods.' Perhaps this Iblis character has already been seen twice? ( in-head Six and Baltar). If this is the case then we bring back in the SoL race that has become aware of Iblis' attempts to destroy humanity and is now attempting to aid the last human fleet in finding the last human colony.
This is why the final 5 models are not actually Cylons. The Cylons annexed the models so everyone assumes that the 12 are all Cylons (especially since everyone keeps referring to them as Cylons). If they go with the SoL approach then they explain a good chunk of how the Cylon's evolved, why there is a divide between the Cylon 'God' and the Colonial 'Gods.' How Starbuck came back from the dead (the SoL downloaded her mind into a new body or transported her entire body). Why the final 5 have real history with the fleet when the 7 don't even know what the 5 look like. Why 4 of the 5 are in important positions to aid humanity.
- 2red4u, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13It's a cover created by Bear McCreary. Check out his blog about it: http://www.bearmccreary.com/html/blog/blogmain.htm
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Kethinov your review sucks. All you do is outline your desire for the show to take a particular direction, then stamp your feet when it doesn't.
"Fanboyz will thumb you down for your critical eye, but thinkerz will thumb you up." That is a statement of such arrogance I cannot believe it. "Anyone who disagrees with you is a mindless fanboy, anyone who agrees is a critical thinker". What a load. - antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Aaaaaaaaaand blocked.
- geuisteses, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17don't digg him down just because he doesn't watch the show. Show him the goodness and some love and lets get another fan!!
- geuisteses, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20wrong, FarSCAPE was one of the best series scifi ever produced and they cut it WAY too early. SG1 was ok the first couple seasons but descended into its own personal level of Hell yet kept getting renewed, while truly innovative story telling gets axed.
My god, how many more bad, horrible, tear my eyes and stuff them in my ears movies do they have to make about mutant animals, space alien monsters that look like mutant animals, and er... do they make any other kind of movie? - ubuntuedgy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21After watching this last night the first thing that came to mind is "I wonder what will be posted on Digg?"
I agree with everyone who thought it was great. Season 3 was a little slow for my taste, but WOW, they certainly impressed with the finale. 2008? Man, I cannot wait! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13What part of "WARNING: SPOILERS!" did you not understand?
