  • bloodomen13, on 07/22/2008, -0/+28SciFi Channel has stated for years that they want their shows to be more episodic as opposed to operatic so that they can draw in viewers 'whenever'. But this also has the opposite effect in that viewers can 'leave' whenever.

    Give me a show where I have a vested interest in the character and story development... I won't miss an episode.

    The operatic complaint was cited as one of the reasons by the SciFi execs for the cancellation of Farscape. I was surprised that they allowed BSG to be so operatic.

So it looks like it will have a little more emphasis on interpersonal drama than BSG (not that BSG doesn't make a lot of hay out of interpersonal drama). It still has fairly central sci-fi issues/characteristics (creating humanoid robots and all). Just because it's not all spaceships and FTL doesn't mean that it's going to suck.

    "According to a statement by Ron Moore in the Season 3 Companion book, the proposed Caprica prequel series will have a story-arc-heavy format like its predecessor; a large reason why the network is reluctant to greenlight the series is because story-arc-heavy series notoriously have difficulty in picking up new viewers, as compared to a series composed of mostly standalone episodes."

    This movie seems to follow that to a point as well as carrying similarities to a "Blade Runner" type movie where technology plays a character into itself.

    Any one care to explain or point me to where to read up on this? I really would like to know, thanks.

    edit: Actually come to think of it, did the Cylons not evolve by them selves to look human? now they are saying humans did it?

  • kooft, on 07/22/2008, -2/+7Unfortunately Caprica isn't going to be like current BSG is (i.e., with long story arcs that span entire seasons). One of Sci-Fi's gripes was that, even though BSG is an award winning show, it wasn't winning new viewers. Caprica is going to be a more topical show, similar to Stargate SG-1/SG-A or Star Trek. You can just jump in whenever and won't be too lost.
