- winterblink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45The best part about season 3 will be the fact that the show is now in "unknown territory". No more episodes that are like ones from the original series, we're truly going to not know what to expect next.
Best show in TV, in my opinion. Best in a looooong time. - Ashex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Of course it's going to be the darkest! the Cylons just totally pwnd the humans by taking over their new home planet and the humans president is a douche bag!
- grunherz5x5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26You're bragging about ditching a show after only watching half a preview.
Do you dump a chick before getting to first base while using the excuse that she sucked in bed?
By the way, the love triangle that I think you're referring to was quite well developed. Battlestar Galactica may be a space soap-opera, but it's a damned good one.
I'm no big Sci-fi fanboy, but this is a really good show. You're missing out. - Kakgak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27How about another 100 nekkid Boomers?
- mtmal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Well, cum'on - You watch 20 seconds of a show and pronounce it "bad"? You spent more time typing in your criticism of it than watching the show...
Everyone has a right to their opinion, I suppose. But we'd all be better served if commenters on Digg spent as much time reading and thinking about the topic at hand as they do spewing out crap on the message boards. - TheBarge, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22I wonder how many times people are going to cry dupe and get modded down.
- rhrrs2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17"with crappy acting and storyline"
Do you even watch this show?!? You probably said the same thing about Babylon 5. You're really missing out! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Something to remember about the original BSG: it was very much a product of the Cold War era. ~1978 Carter was President and US/USSR balance was standing at about 7:1. A nuclear Pearl Harbor? A sneak attack during peace treaty negotiations? These were the same kinds of fears that the US had about the Soviets.
The problem with the original BSG were many: the networks couldn't write it dark enough so they ended up adding heaping portions of cheese to sell it to kids. They were trying to cash in on the Star Wars success which had just made sci-fi much more interesting. The networks have never liked or done sci-fi well. They lumped sci-fi in the same class as Saturday morning cartoons- for kids
Hollywood has a forumla for TV science fiction: their writers don't know how to write sci-fi so when they get in trouble, they insert a cute kid, smart dog or a dumb robot. The original BSG was using this stale formula before it got out of its first month.
After a very stong start, the original BSG went south very fast. By the second season, it was dreadful and real fans like to pretend that BSG 1980 never happened.
The more successful SF series like the various Treks and B5 did not use this formula. They focused on story and strong characters which are the traditional elements of good story-telling.
Apparently the new series has taken these lessons to heart. It is vastly improved in comparison to the old series. The Sci-fi channel has really come of age as a production company. The BSG franchise appears healthy and in good hands.
I look forward to seeing what the future holds for BSG and the Sci-Fi channel. - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -12/+25So their president is just like the one we have in the US!
Cool! - buyitloadit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@Kakgak
Naked Boomers, Sixes, and Threes. You'll be seeing alot of that next season. - buyitloadit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13alright arrested development fan boy :P
- honkyman5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12*SPOILER*
Cylons are going to learn to aim their weapons. - grunherz5x5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13The solution to your problem is pretty easy.
Read closely:
Skip over threads on iPods and Battelstar Galactica.
Problem solved.
Rinse and repeat. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"Naked Boomers, Sixes, and Threes. You'll be seeing alot of that next season."
Nearly naked Boomer (Grace Park) BarelySFW: http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/2974/grace31024x7681gw.jpg
OMFG Tricia Helfer (Six) NSFFW!!!: http://www.xtihmc.com/XT/Tricia_Helfer_DarkPhoenix.jpg - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Yeah, 'cause one line quantifies an entire series, and no WAY does anyone ever have children in real life, nor threaten someone trying to do harm to those they love...
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Ah, so the general obliteration of billions of human lives, a fleet with only one military vessel (two eventually, but at the start...) and roughly 50,000 humans remaining being the only thing left for the general future of mankind isn't dark?
- buyitloadit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Boxey wasn't a robotic dog in the original series. Boxey was Serina's son. Apollo married Serina and took Boxey as his own son. Serina soon died and Apollo was left to be the parent of Boxey. The robotic dog you're refering to is a "daggit." His was named "muffit" and died on Caprica when the Cylons attacked. On board the Galactica, a robotic verison of his "daggit" was built, "muffit II."
Sounds cheesy? Yes. Original Galactica could be very very cheesy.
Btw, Gene, you're a bad TOS fanboy. - Powder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Ok, I am as big a fan of BSG as the next guy, but how is this new? They have been saying this for the last how many months. Even the people that are just casual watcher know this.
- buyitloadit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Knew all of it because I'm a fan of both series. However I think the newer version is much better.
And it wouldn't be many centons ago, it'd be many yahren ago.
The childs name wans't really "Boxey." His mother gave him that nickname. His real name was Troy. - moisie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Nice way to take one line without knowing the context and use it to represent an entire series. I'm not saying you would have liked the series but Galactica is in no way a Soap Opera.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"I like both Starbucks. How can you compare them? It's apples and oranges."
True. I'd definitely never bang the original Starbuck.
>.> - dbeltr1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Remove every SCI-FI ascpect from BSG and you are still left with one of the best shows on TV: well written, well acted, and well directed.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Let me guess...President Clark becomes all dictatorial, the Shadows start their conquest, and Sheridan dies.
- poipoipoi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Cheney, you're being dugg down because you're being an ass.
- Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10So you don't want story, you want mindless entertainment. Just keep it tuned to FOX and you should get exactly what you want.
- goodnewsevery1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The big question remaining about it following the "old series" is whether or not Baltar will end up ruling the cylons against the humans. That seems to be the only major storyline dangling from the old series.
- BumbyKnuckles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Man i wish someone will go ahead and kill baltar, man he alone is the only reason the for cylons complete destroying the human race. Some in this season better step up and take him out. Cant wait
- buyitloadit, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13i was just about to submit this!
good find.
i really dont know why the colonials are going to be so hesitant to spread this 'pandemic.' the cylons destroyed their civilization. sure you'll lose sharon, big frakin deal. i say kill um all. - buyitloadit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Great comment. You're dead on about the original BSG being a product of the enviroment at the time. Same could be said today about new BSG.
If there is any show where everything could end in a moment and there would be no happy ending, it would be Galactica. Imagine if they get to Earth only to find that the Cylons knew where it was all along and nuked the hell out of it? And as they find that out, the entire Cylon Fleet pours out from behind the moon and decimates the Colonial Fleet? Thats something that Ron Moore do.
Somewhere online there was a fake cancellation announcement about BSG. In it they said that the show couldn't go on because Ron Moore ended up killing off humanity. - doctorperv, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I love the show and it is totally a soap opera, don't fool yourself.
Adama and Roslin
Starbuck and Apollo
Apollo and Dee
Billy and Dee
Starbuck and Anders
Tigh and Ellen
Gaius and Number 6
Chief and Boomer
Cally and Chief
Helo and Boomer
Many episodes revolve around romance andor comas and cancer. I am not saying its 100% soap opera, but fighting cylons and flying vipers is usually the secondary storyline. - kbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I like both Starbucks. How can you compare them? It's apples and oranges.
- PantherX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I really need to catch up on my season 2 viewing... that and Dr. Who.
- rhrrs2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I can't wait to see what happens to Him (the president). I keep thinking that he will get killed, but he (and 5) are so integral to the story...
- Zedizdead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Oh great, another galactica fanboy."
Coming from a guy who calls himself brianJamesKirk - kbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7What can you expect? It's not exactly Buffy, after all.
- lotus22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Dwight Schrute will be excited!
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well he'd be right about the crappy acting if he was talking about B5. Massive fan of that show but the acting was crappy.
BSG is the first "space" sci-fi show where the acting doesn't suck. In fact it has some of the best performances I've seen in the last few years. How do they do it? - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yes its a soap opera, if by soap opera you mean: Characters and relationships develop, storylines run over many episodes and there is no end of episode reset switch every week so everyone is the same again the next episode. Yes.
In essence all good TV are soap operas, because the most compelling thing about TV shows are not space battles and robots, but human drama. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wrong universe but a nice effort. I miss Babylon 5 and wish that someone would run it on cable.
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is this buy american standards? I don't see how it was "dark", it's just... awesome.
- Bloodwine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I tried to watch BSG but it has too much drama in it for my tastes. Unfortunately I think humans in real life would be just as stupid with the in-fighting and politics while their very existence is threatened.
- Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not like Lorien didn't warn him...
- buyitloadit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4from the spoilers i've heard, baltar will follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, at least in one aspect.
- Killroy1971, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It'll be interesting to see what happens. Last season's closer had almost all remaining humans, including most of the best warriors, rounded up for slaughter and experimentation. Unless the fleet is able to round up enough pilots to mount a strike or wage an effective gorilla campaign on Caprica, it looks like curtains for the Colonials.
- SaintArium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well as long as they don't broadcast a black screen and sounds of people being murdered I will keep watching. I have to say last season surprised me... in a good way. there's going to be a lot of ground combat this season. which means a lot more gore; no more "the ship exploded... i guess there all dead" moments.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mr Data. Dwight Schrute is the character out of "The Office" who mentions BSG in his "blog". Surprise surprise, NBC (who airs The Office) and Sci-Fi are owned by the same company.
- zacmccormick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Opinions are like *****, everyone has one and everyone elses stinks. BSG ROCKS though ;)
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What? I've never heard Moore saying anything of the sort. Link?
- colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ron Moore has very strongly hinted that they will find Earth, and elsewhere from what I remember he has stated they will find Earth directly:
http://www.mediablvd.com/magazine/Magazine-Home/MBMag_2006042029.html - ripcrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And from the original series, Serina WASN'T his mother, she was a reporter and happened to see the boy wandering around by himself in the square that was being bombed. he had gotten lost chasing that damn dog, err, daggit. Serina took care of him and basically adopted him.
Reminds one of all the chasing of cats on the original Alien. -
