- DeltaTaph, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Woot! BSG rocks socks. =D

does anyone ever check iTunes downloads? BSG is one of the most popular shows on there, frequently occupying the number one spot. That's how I watch it. It's a great option to avoid the $70 a month I'd have to pay to get it on cable. - dark_helmet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Season 3 has had its good episodes, and its boring ones, I'm sure it'll get bettter before it ends.
- NeCtUr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17its because its being shown on friday nights, and with the type of show it is, its hard to hook the casual viewer. similar to lost you have to catch every episode or else you are nearly clueless as to what is going on. so its pretty much just the dvr/torrenting crowd thats the huge following. along with the small crowd that is actually sitting in front of a tv every friday night.
- netburnr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Exodus Part 2.
How in the hell can you say that Season 3 sucks? That was the best episode ever. I think I watched the BSG/BSP vs. Cylon battle about 20 times - bungee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Can someone explain why this super excellent show's rating is declining?
Is it because it's actually a drama series, and not sci-fi per se?
Or maybe the SciFi channel audience despise anything with a bit of mysticism?
This show is the best thing on TV currently, and it's a shame it doesn't get its appropriate recognition. - Shmoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12dark_helmet, north of the border we have the Space network, which broadcasts Battlestar Galactica 9:00pm on Saturdays, just a day after the U.S. watches it.
- modifiedbears, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I like this show a lot, but the Cylon ship interiors are extremely cheesy.
Set Designers inner monologue:
Lets throw some christmas lights into this fountain over here! Now put your hands in it! Yes this is the future! - cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I blame it on Sci-fi splitting it up with the startgates, the best ratings they've had were during the time Sci-Fi Fridays wold premier new episodes for SG-1, Atlantis, BSG. it was like an event every friday, i would cancel plans for those fridays. But now with only one premier. pfft i'll just DVR-it.
- dark_helmet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I'm sure they'd get more viewers if it didn't premiere only in the US, even just north of the border I'm expected to wait 6 months or so to watch it. Or i can chose to watch it 1.5 hours later.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I think things picked up again though with the eye of jupiter arc. I can't wait to see if Adama fires those nukes.
- positron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@smeep2k4
That's because the SciFi Channel is also moving it to Sunday nights down here in the States; a fact that, when coupled with BSG's ratings problems, has some fans (those who remember the backstabbing SciFi pulled with Farscape) worried about the show's future. I have to say though that this news about a BSG movie being greenlighted goes a long way toward calming my fears. My only concern now is that this movie might end up becoming a wrap-up movie, similar to "Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars", and that season 3 might very well end up being the last. Credible rumors that the fleet will find Earth this season lend some weight to that as well. Even so, there's always hope with the spin-off series "Caprica" that is currently in the works. - isemism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is the first show that I ended up feeling guilty for downloading and bought (no cable). I second your motion, and want to pay for the files (so long as I own them and they aren't DRM infested)
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Oh hell yea. I get UniversalHD, and have seen some (old) BSG episodes in HD. No quesiton that the experience is vastly superior to the letterboxed SD crap we have to watch on SciFi.
Oh, and in case any of you have missed it: Firefly is on in HD, in a remastered, punched up version. I watched Jaynestown. You can really sense the cheesiness in the exteriors (yea, we are in SoCal), but,,,
the space shots were great, Inara's shuttle in HD was incredible, as was, well, Inara. Morea Baccarin in HD, drooolllll. This Sunday they are showing Objects In Space, probably one of the best episodes of the series. - cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7you would think the cylons were equipped with bluetooth and would be able to interface wirelessly
- silenceHR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"I think things picked up again though with the eye of jupiter arc. I can't wait to see if Adama fires those nukes."
Sure he'll fire ... and kill half of the cast ;)
IMO, "Eye Of Jupiter" is one losusiest cliffhangers ever... cause if you have any brain, you know what will happen - no nukes, both sides will prolly see the eye (somehow connected to that star going nova) and that's it... nothing to really think about... - geekinhiding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I was excited about the new season for months, waiting to see what happened in Exodus. Since the aforementioned part 2, the show feels like it has slowed back down to a crawl. Whole episodes pass with major parts of the plot just ignored, while smaller side stories are emphasized. Kind of reminds me of last season's SG-1.
- itsHef, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Sweet Battlestar's bitchin'.
- greenamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I agree Friday at 8pm is an odd time. Hopefully the move to Sunday nights will get more people interested.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sci-fi NEEDS a On-demand HD channel and hd live channel at least on Comcast
- soulknowledge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Fans are so hard to please sometimes... I personally think the show is still great.... each season had it's lulls and season 3 is no different
I will say, however, that I'd much rather buy the season on DVD than watch on Fri nights - smeep2k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, Space is moving it to Sundays when it restarts at the end of January (which works fine for me, as I find that's when I end up watching it anyway).
- ahknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Lee is Apollo and never had a mustache. I think you mean Bill, the admiral (whose current lack of a mustache is a "soul scar" or something? WTF?).
- chaospenumbra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think the show is going downhill at all. You're right, season 3 is not just like the first 2. But guess what? That's a GOOD thing. Otherwise, the show would get boring and stagnant and then it would be cancelled. I think this season we are seeing a lot more of the details about the characters and the differences/similarities between human and cylon. It's cool that cylons are not your standard enemy. In fact, they aren't much worse than the humans!
Keep in mind, BSG is NOT a scifi show. This has been said many times. This is why you will never see another alien or the galactica's FTL drive. It is a human drama in a scifi mantle. That's it. If you want a giant space battle every week, watch voyager where they blow up half the ship every week and then miraculously fix it.
Oh yeah, I read many complaints about how the inisde of the basestars look. Hello McFly! Do you pay attention? The cylons don't care what the hallways look like because they can imagine them looking like whatever they want.
Anyway, I agree that Baltar is not a funny as he used to be. But everything else in the show continually remains above my expectations. Keep up the good work. - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Farscape?
That ain't the only show that SciFi's crapped on. There's Farscape, AND, there's MST3K, First Wave, Sliders, Stargate SG-1, and I'm sure BSG will end up in the used/discard pile eventually.
Sci-Fi's only interested in one thing. BIG numbers. TThe second those fade, they could care less. I'll be surprised to see how long Dr. Who can last over here before it ends up on PBS again. The very fact that we want longevity out of the massive operas they build out of these shows means very little to them, as it's all about the $$$$ for them. They show wrestling and Passions reruns for pete's sake. Doesn't that tell you that they don't give a ***** about us? At all? Sci Fi's basically our equivalent of MTV. Give a good show a few years then junk it when they feel they're done with it.
Remember, remember Bonnie Hammer's the one to blame come next September... - junk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think the feeling among some fans that the show isn't as good as season one has to do with the switch to the 22 episode season format. These long seasons lead to filler episodes and plot drift. It's fine for sitcoms and procedurals but I don't think it works for serial dramas.
- punchingjudy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Were it not for the torrent files I would have never discovered the show, and to this day I always download the episodes. However, as soon as they hit the shelves in those fabulously small DVD sets [efficient!], I grab 'em. It's thanks to those that I've introduced more than a handful of my friends to the show.
Can we say BSG parties? Nerdy, a bit, but the vodka makes it better. - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You kiddin'? If they did that, then the enemies of the Cylons would be able to take control of their ships ('cause you know, you don't go 50 somethin' years with only humans as your enemies...)
- Shivetya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have to agree. Without the Stargate series (both of them) in the same night it just isn't the same anymore.
Now I just DVR the damn shows and watch them when I want. - btgoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I tend to agree. Doctor Who is pretty powerful (at times) in it's current 13 episode format... you don't get so many "filler" episodes.... so perhaps that is what they should do... and the idea that breaking the Friday triple play of new shows didn't help either.... but then SciFi has been making some mistakes lately....
- TheJuggernaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Dvddesign:
No disrespect, but I wouldn't call four seasons of Farscape "crapped on," or six seasons (on Sci-fi) of SG-1 "crapped on." Sure, I'd love for these shows to go on forever, too, but four seasons or more is a really good run in this day and age. Plenty of good shows have gotten the axe long before that on other networks. - BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So, since it's not going to be on basic cable, does that mean that they can show some hot cylon boobies in this one? Please, god, please!
- williej81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think he'll fire the nukes, right at the 'near supernova' star. That would make the cylons have to decide, they either stay and try to find the eye or get the frak outta there before they get destroyed. Same for the humans, but the Chief will figure out the 'puzzle' and find the eye then escape to the Galactica and they'll jump just before the wave from the Supernova hits them and fries the planet. Looks to be a good episode.
- kevine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Count me as someone who just started watching BSG about a month ago. I'm totally hooked and have caught up to the beginning of season 3. All thanks to iTunes.
I can't believe how great this show is! - Bytor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have watched every episode since the mini series, but I am not surprised the ratings are in decline. This season has lost it's way. Baltar was great when he was among the humans with the cylon in his head frakking with his brain. Now among the cylons he is quite uninteresting.
Other than that they really seem to be pushing the preachy morality play of the week. Oh no, we can't commit genocide on the cylons, suicide bombing is bad.... That and filler like the boxing/flashback episode.
I think the listened to much to the critics who liked them touching "real issues" and now they have gone overboard on the "real issues" and the story and characters seem to be suffering. It is just not as good this season. I hope they get back to form soon. - yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2orgy ship? it's just those three characters doing it. it's not like the whole ship is
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think the titles should have read "Direct to BitTorrent"
- Bytor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Obviously there is room for differing opinions, but pretty much all of my friends think it is going downhill this season as well. I was a huge booster for this show, telling all my friends and people at work about it, now I never mention it.
This is SciFi, but as of late has too much melodrama and preachyness. You don't need a new alien species every week to be SciFi. This is SciFi regardless of claims to the contrary. What it has been turning into is a soap opera this season. I would prefer more SciFi and less soap.
As far as changing to not be boring, this has been by far the most boring season yet. I think they are running out of ideas and they shouldn't try to drag this on endlessly because they can, when the story is over they should stop and not inject filler seasons that increasingly make it unrealistic. I would rather have 3 or 4 good season ended properly rather than dragged out mediocre 5 or 6 seasons.
I also find the characterizations less and less realistic. I have a hard time maintaining a suspension of disbelief watching most episodes this season. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I almost think that downloading might be the reason Battlestar's ratings are falling, while DVD and iTunes sales are increasing. I download Battlestar, and while I'd like to have the DVD sets myself, I *have* bought them as gifts for other people. Being on Sci-Fi, which is pretty much a wasteland, you have to go out of your way to see BSG. People who are likely to do that are probably on the nerdy end of the demographic spectrum, and likely to be the same people who know how to work them torrents. That means downloading for a lot of people, and DVD sets for others, and I suspect that the downloading drives the DVD sales.
- LtCarter47, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Though I still watch the show, I'm not surprised the ratings are declining. Often I just can't relate with the Cylon's motivations anymore. I loved back in season 1, and to an extent 2, when it was just a gritty fight for survival from the Cylon fleets. Now There's all this talk about faith and god(s). Ugh.
- ShadedSpriter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have been downloading it here in the UK - I am going to watch it when it starts in January...I missed nearly all of season 1 and 2 on TV because of bad timing. (was watching season 1 and movie on TV just when season 2 started.)
- williej81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I just didn't like finding out in Season 3 that the Cylons' base ship is just one big orgy ship. :|
The Cylons just don't seem as menacing now. - radix33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I doubt that. I still watch Eureka, Stargate series, and some of the occasional mini series like Lost Room. I'm sure they'll move on post-BSG.
- zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hate to say it, but yeah, I never watch on sci fi anymore. I started watching this season off BT (exodus part 2 was the first ep I ever saw). Got so hooked I bought all the DVDs. They're getting their money from me, but not the ratings.
- dungbeetle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like the action and a little bit of drama here and there, but when I stopped losing interest it was getting way too preachy with the insurgent stuff and tying way too far into controversial politics and the like. If I wanted that I would watch the news.
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That sound sweet, I can't take enough BSG. Also Scifi = Done if they kill BSG, I will and hopefully all of the other 2.1 million+ people that watch the show never watch Scifi again. But hopefully it never comes to that.
- dark_helmet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It does? since when.. damn, i've got to start watching space again. Still can't beat an hour and a half or so, but it is an improvement.
- prezzy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3totally agree, at least they could explain the cheesiness like they explained the lack of tech on the galactica
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well the whole reason why the cyclon is in his head is because he himself is a cylon.
