Battlestar Finale Rewritten
io9.com — The writers had worked out what the arc in the back half [of the fourth season] was already... I think [the strike] actually benefited the show in some ways in that... we started to think about things that we could change, things we could make better. And when the strike was over... we wrote the second half of the season all over again.

Not hotter than six though, but way hotter than Starbuck.
http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Cally_Tyrol- EvilDr.X, on 03/28/2008, -1/+15My roommates all dig her, I personally find her insufferably, gratingly annoying. On the other hand, I think Baltar is one of the greatest characters ever written for television, and my roommates would happily toss him out an airlock.
The moral of the story is, my roommates are idiots.- noisey, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5I think it's the bangs. Either you love them or hate them.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1Agree that the Cheifs wife is annoying.
I also think Baltar is one of the best written characters on TV --- ever. When he was on Deep Space 9, I found him annoying. But the Baltar character is a self-involved whiner who is never acting in a way that is overtly evil nor in a way that doesn't make sense. He gets sort of conned into betraying the human race by vanity and greed -- it didn't seem like a big deal at the time, right?
Even in when he was running the human colony under Cylon rule -- he had to make tough choices and was sort of forced to be on the side with the losing hand. ANYONE, who worked for the Cylons would have to choose to comply to minimize deaths and would also necessarily be cast as the villain later.
A damn great series. There isn't a character I don't like on that show.- EvilDr.X, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6Baltar is James Callis, Bashir was Alexander Siddig. I've had that conversation I don't know how many times, but I suppose the two do look sort of similar, both characters are doctors, and Bashir and Baltar sound kind of similar.
Anyway, yeah, I don't really defend Baltar's actions or decisions, they are for the most part pretty bad ones, but he is far from the only character to have made really morally dubious decisions. Yeah, a lot of times he was conned, or his hand was forced in some way, and yeah, he can be a cowardly, self-serving character at times, but I think that is precisely what makes him so compelling of a character. He is thoroughly, undeniably human, with all of humanity's faults, just like everyone else on the show, but for some reason, everyone hates his guts.
I think the same things that made Capt. Mal Reynolds such a great character on Firefly, and hell, I suppose Jayne too, are the same things that work for Baltar.

- Aidenf77, on 03/28/2008, -0/+46While it's sad that this show is coming to an end. I'm glad that they're planning on ending it gracefully instead of rushing it or leaving us all with an unresolved ending.
- prophetpimp, on 03/28/2008, -1/+5You should be happy that they are ending it before it jumps the Shark.
- Mier, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I want to see them make it to Earth only to find themselves challenged by a far superior fleet of ships. Perhaps both cylon and coloniel fleets are destroyed during the encounter. That'd be ironic. Oh hell I said Ironic..cue dissertation on irony.
- Happy_Phantom, on 03/28/2008, -19/+1I can't watch it anymore. That last season finale was so bad the rest of it is now completely unwatchable.

- Pillage, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2yea, but none of those shows are on TV. They have either ended their run, or have been canceled.
- Xondar, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1BSG is far far better than the second season of Rome.
- GrantTLC, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Firefly is amazing, but it's the greatest crime of the 21st century so far that there is so little of it. BSG has over 60 episodes of goodness for us to enjoy, with more on the way!

Erg. Most embarrassing moment in TV history. Other than that... rock on.- dobaman, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2Really? I thought that was a really decent episode. The fight at the end was a great resolution to the Lee/Kara love-hate thing. For one of their cheap 'soap' episodes it really stood out as one of the best for BSG. I would have thought the Adama/Chief fight was the cheesy embarrassing part of the episode (if there was one).

- cornswalled, on 03/28/2008, -3/+20SPOILER ALERT:
They blow up the Battlestar and the robots win. Humanity goes extinct, The final twist is that the whole series predates recorded human history and the Cylons go on to build the first "Humans" that get left on Earth.
That's right, the whole thing is a techno-creation myth for planet Earth. We're all Version 10x Cylons.- Ndiggnation, on 03/28/2008, -0/+13I realize you're probably being facetious, but there should already be a colony of humans on Earth, the 13th colony. So, do the Cylons wipe them out to and just start over on earth? If so, how does Greek and Roman mythology work into that, if it should have been wiped out before recorded human history? :)
Oh, I get it, Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas and the actors playing Tory and Anders are the special Cylons left over. They're just retelling the story through acting in the TV show. :) - RexxxMaster, on 03/28/2008, -8/+3Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears beat “Battlestar Galactica.”
- dhVyse, on 03/28/2008, -1/+4I woulda dugg you but you said it wrong. It's "BEARS. BEATS. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA."
- jmpeagle, on 03/28/2008, -1/+4so basically some form of scientology?
- CapeKid, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3Yeah, I've thought that for a while now. Makes sense with the "This has happened before and will happen again" stuff.
- Ndiggnation, on 03/29/2008, -0/+3Yeah, I thought about that too, and it really does make sense if it were that way. Maybe it'd be an open end for another show, opening from our time and creation of cyborg intelligence ala Terminator/Skynet types of things. It would make for the whole shocker kind of ending, maybe the kind of thing that Edward Olmos alluded too. Plus, they get here and it's present day would be too easy, being that it was done with that old 1980 spin-off.
I never saw it, I was too young (but I remember the original show strangely enough) but I guess the humans decided we were too primitive and I don't remember what happened after that...something about a cylon space dog going around biting cylons in the leg and the male Starbuck fathering some holy babies or something. Heh..

- Rocketbird, on 03/28/2008, -1/+12Title should be "Olmos advises Galactica fans against watching final season"
- BobScratchit, on 04/01/2008, -0/+0Kind of like that Naked Gun movie where the security guard kept repeating "There's nothing to see here."
- shaka999, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Aren't they doing a spin off or something...

- Pillage, on 03/28/2008, -2/+4I was listening to Stern and they sent him (as well as others) a DVD of the season premiere. Pirate Bay don't fail me now.
- Pherdnut, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3I hope Ron avoids the temptation to sacrifice the ship for the greater good. It's starting to become a really cheesy sci-fi cliche for putting "closure" on things. I'm already kind of ***** that Earth is clearly still up in the air. Getting the Earthers, whoever they may be to mount a defense against the Cylons or whoever the real bad guys are would've been cool.
- Ndiggnation, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2That's what I want to see, not as cheesy as it was supposedly in the 1980 thing. But, present day them coming here and getting us up to speed on tech and using our resources would be really cool. The human population jumps from ~40,000 to 6 Billion plus..
- kazamx, on 03/28/2008, -0/+5Oh come on I can see it now. They turn up, give us loads of cool weapons and tell us to help them fight the Cylons.
We turn around and say sure, I just gotta sort a few things out first. russia gets payback for losing the coldwar and blows up the US. germany gets payback for WW2 and blows up Europe. China throws a hissy fit and blows up Japan and Russia. north Korea gets confused and nukes itself.
By the time the Cylons turn up earth is fooked.- Ndiggnation, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Haha, hilarious, but you' ve got a good point. We've got enough enemies here and old grudges that I'd be surprised if we could help the "space people" with their problem, even if it meant our own annihilation. I think we're hell bent on it.
BTW, can I quote you on that? Brilliant. :)
- Ndiggnation, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Haha, hilarious, but you' ve got a good point. We've got enough enemies here and old grudges that I'd be surprised if we could help the "space people" with their problem, even if it meant our own annihilation. I think we're hell bent on it.

- JusticeFriend, on 03/29/2008, -1/+1Ron? Ron Paul?
- GrantTLC, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I want to see the worst possible outcome for our characters. Death, explosiosn, fire and more death: Exctinction of both human and Cylon at the carpricious hands of their godly manipulators. Too many shows end on upbeat happy notes nowadays - let's have a good old fashioned *****!
- iheartboobs, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3The predictable ending: Adama or the pres is the final cylon. Human and cylons all end up on earth starting a primitive agrarian society with no more space travel. They restart the cycle.
But we know these writers wont be predictable and will try to avoid answering question directly. They are gonna leave a lot of the explanations up to the viewers. They might also show earth different than you'd expect her. Wartorn, populated, or something unexpected like that . It might not end on earth at all. And I wouldn't be surprised if they threw a new species into the story.
I just hope they don't use time travel to try to explain anything. Time travel explanation are so lame. They can't make any of the main characters into a Jesus type figure. That's lame too. And they can't do anything close to a planet of the apes ending.- kakihara0513, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3They already have used Baltar as a Jesus figure.
- veloscaper, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2I think you mean Starbuck, she has a destiny stuff, dies and now comes back.
- Borgcube, on 03/28/2008, -2/+0Time travels ALWAYS leave plot holes size of your mom.
*Cough* Anyway, yea, I still think they'll go for time travel. 'Twas the first thought that came to my mind when I watched the series. - VitriolAndAngst, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1What if the humans in desperation go for time travel to the past -- because they cannot get earth up to speed to help them defeat the Cylons?
So it basically ends with them going back in time. And the Cylons facing earth, which, before their eyes advances in technology as the time waves alter the present.
>> But I don't think that is going to happen. There is too much of background with the mysticism of the Cylons. I think somehow they are trying to find God, or to evolve humans. I think they've been pushing them in a cat and mouse game to help them find earth from the beginning. Maybe there is some progenitor or advanced race behind the scenes waiting at earth?
The 12 Cylons, however, could start the mythology on earth as gods. It will be interesting to see how they find the races of earth -- as they are now, in the early years, or more advanced. All of those options change the meaning of the Cylon mythology. - mabhatter, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2The question would be why the colonies split in the first place? Why would one go so far away from all the others? Was there something wrong with them? The show seems to play on the greek/roman gods and the idea that the gods fall and men take over.... then become the gods....
- kakihara0513, on 03/28/2008, -0/+3They already have used Baltar as a Jesus figure.
- GorfTron, on 03/28/2008, -10/+1Battlestar lost me when it became a big soap opera.

- VikingoTJ, on 03/28/2008, -9/+1But what about watching guys walking around in public wearing spandex pants?
- skidpro, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1A devastating ending? this will be torrented this weekend as I cant wait another year for it to air in UK plus I cant get Sky One on Virgin Media. Stargate atlantis season 4 ended on a cliffhanger.....no sign of it on TV over here....
- al6667, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0Cue the Journey and fade to black... (Just kidding... it sure as hell better be more imaginative than that!)
- omegaredIX, on 03/28/2008, -3/+1Umm Kara and the other 4 humans that just found out they were cylons are the last remaining secret 5 cylons that no one talks about. There will be a cylon civil war with humans and cylons fighting the main big cylon force and it will all occur near earth. I still think they should have thrown baltar out the airlock
- mabhatter, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2we don't "know" kara is the final one.
The way the 6's tell it the "final" 5 were the first 5... perhaps they were too human for the cylon's needs?
- mabhatter, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2we don't "know" kara is the final one.
- rankftw, on 03/28/2008, -1/+7OMG I CAN'T ***** WAIT FOR THIS SEASON!
- Wiinii, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1I'd like to add my 9 to that 6...
- CrimsonBlur, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4I don't understand the quote from Olmos... is it taken out of context? Is he being sarcastic? That quote makes me nervous, he's always praised the series. That one sentence on its own isn't enough to make sense of what he meant.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1>>MY two cents.
I think the human-like cylons will show free will and will take sides. Boomer has already shown this and I think it's beyond merely being an artificial personality. The Cylons seem to have free will. They did, however, sacrifice a few mother ships to let Boomer gain some trust. But beyond just being a chess move to help a double-agent, I think they allowed these strikes by the humans so that they would go on and find earth and get a false sense of security. After that, they start the settlement which the Cylons find.
Linda Lawless's character and that creepy mechanic will stay on the side of the robot-like Cylon battle fleet. Boomer and 6 will join the humans. I've missed a lot of the shows revealing newer Cylons.
Baltar will become a figure urging peace, and sacrificing himself to try and achieve it. He has been transformed by his guilt and suffering into a better human.
Whatever happened to the cylone-human hybrid? Everyone forget that the Cylon's want to pro-create?
>> I'd think it would be awesome --- and really out there controversial, is they birth a God. Which in my view is the ultimate fate of evolution. I think that the Cylons, in their own twisted way, are destroying humans because they are disappointed with them -- kind of a rebellious teen with the ability to genetically modify his parents. The Cylons can accept all sorts of losses, since their consciousness can be passed from one clone to the next at death (or robot). Why did the Cylons not just head out into empty space if the humans kept them down forever and they hated humans? They are ultimately unable to separate from humanity because they want something.
I've missed a few episodes -- anyone know what became of the plague they smuggled onto the cylon ship?
I also wonder about them transferring consciousness to humans.
The "Last Supper" photo will make complete sense when the season is over.- Willravel, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2Re: the Plague. It only infects cylons and was apparently left by the members of the 13th Colony. A strategy was formed which was going to allow the surviving cylons from the infected base ship to resurrect infected and thus spread the infection. Helo got *****. So *****,d in fact, that he killed the infected cylons before they could be resurrected, spreading the infection. Why was Helo *****? He felt that humanity would be stooping to the cylon's level if they tried to commit genocide against the cylon.
- mabhatter, on 03/29/2008, -1/+1"the plague" was a cheap War of the Worlds gag... that an ancient cold germ (what the doctor traced it to) would bring down genetically engineered super-clone-robot people, as a bit of irony.
- nirav72, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1The last supper photo has to do with Balter's redemption. I think he will eventually help the humans to redeem himself. Either that or the fleet start treating him like a messiah. Also, I think the 5 new cylons will be against the 7 existing cylons. So they might help the humans fight back. That music they heard was some type of signal to set a serious of events into motion.
- Willravel, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2Re: the Plague. It only infects cylons and was apparently left by the members of the 13th Colony. He felt that humanity would be stooping to the cylon's level if they tried to commit genocide against the cylon.

- thecoldfunk, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Someone please explain: If the second half of the fourth season is going to be better than it previously was, why isn't EJO optimistic?
- Willravel, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2He was optimistic, it's going to be ***** serious.
- nato64, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2He's saying it's dark, not that it's bad. In an interview on scifi.com, he says like, "everybody dies" half-jokingly.
- cfuse, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1If they end it anything like they ended season 3 then I swear I will hunt them down and kill them.
- stephengotlost, on 03/29/2008, -0/+0Dugg to create 666
- nato64, on 03/29/2008, -0/+2To me, RDM going darker with the series is only because he's run out of ideas that would cause BSG to go back under my "Favorite TV Shows" on facebook or whathaveyou. The last season was so lame. If they didn't have a plan how to end the series from season 1, then what's the point? Everyone claimed that's what LOST was doing, writing mystery as you go. I have faith that the writers of that show know what they're doing and have a plan. Things from the first season are paying off in season 4.
If the BSG writers could re-write the second half of the season and make it better, that means the ending was never planned from the start. And for a serial drama so deep into the mythological aspects of cylons, humans, and Earth not to have an ending planned... is just poor writing.
RDM's comment has made me loose a lot of faith in the show. And after season 3, I didn't know I could loose anymore faith in BSG. Naturally, I'll still watch the show incase it pulls itself out of it's own arse. I stuck with LOST in season 2 when it got bad but it paid of in the last 2 seasons being amazing. So I'm crossing my fingers for BSG to be as good as the first season, when we got the feeling it was going somewhere.- Aquabat, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1I don't think it shows that they don't know what they were doing, I think just having the extra time to look at the series and evaluate it again made them realize their ending had weak points. They reconstructed it, because once you change one thing, you more than likely have to change several. BSG is
- Spoomeister, on 03/29/2008, -3/+1That they felt needed to do this for this season, goes a long way to explain why the 2nd half of last season blew.
- mabhatter, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1spoiler alert....
isn't there a Second hybrid baby like Hara now? If "Cheif" and Kali had a baby, wouldn't that be a hybrid?
Also, that would be another case against Starbuck being Cylon because her husband was... there would have been no children. - lastrite, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Good news, I can't wait for the new season! :D
- ReFleXxXxXxXxX, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1All i can think about is Dwight Schrute...
- blast_flame, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1The quality of the entire series depends on what earth is like.
Earth with cyborgs and AIs: good.
Primitive or modern earth: ok.
Earth where AI research is banned: bad.
Apocalyptic earth: very bad.- BobScratchit, on 04/01/2008, -0/+0I want to see Earth as modern earth in the present. I'd like to see us open up to Galactica and be friendly eventually. I'm sure at first we'd be scared out our mind to see a fleet of space ships jump into earth orbit suddenly however and we'd have to get over that. Another thing is I want to see Galactica share technology with earth and earth builds a large military to counter the cylons. Utilizing our large nuclear arsenal as well as biological weapons will also be key IMO. Though I don't see us building large space aircraft carriers (we can't even build a decent space shuttle anymore). Maybe if we took the schematics of a Vipor or raptor and mass produced those, all armed with nukes or something.
