- revthwack, on 10/12/2007, -11/+106NBC taking this show off of Sci-Fi would spell it's doom. Havn't these corporate idiots realized yet that playing around with time slots is dangerous, shifting days almost ensures doom, and changing channels would be like droping a nuke on it.
With all the other idiotic decisions these people have made, I hope they don't ruin one of the best sci-fi series ever, but fully expect them to. - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+82I yearn for a world where independent studios can create shows and sell them exclusively online (iTunes, etc.) and on DVD, turning a profit without the need for advertisers and eliminating all this network horsecrap. Ditto musicians ditching record labels. It's time the fans and the artists get the direct connection they have long deserved, cutting out the middleman leeches that suck our wallets, and the creative process, dry.
Could that be the world where shows like Firefly flourish and the Ashlee Simpsons fade into obscurity? I hope and pray so. - matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -1/+57NBC will probably bleep the work frak out of the show :(
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+55Of course Eureka will end... they need the money to do a sequel to Mansquito!
- pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -6/+48If it's on NBC I can watch it in HD. I hope it moves (assuming they don't screw with it).
- Abx0r, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42I get the feeling NBC hates the Sci-Fi channel. Stargate SG-1 Canned, BSG moved, what next? Sci-Fi renamed Wrestling News Network
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39I'm not worried about NBC allowing Battlestar Galactica to have politically-charged episodes. We have far BIGGER things to worry about here: ratings.
On the Sci-Fi Channel, Battlestar Galactica usually averages a rating of about 3.1. On network television, even a rating of 6.0 is usually considered a failure in prime-time.
If the show moves to NBC and the ratings do anything less than DOUBLE, Battlestar Galactica will be CANCELED! - chatwithaninja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35FRAK
- misterpony, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35This is horrible. NBC will dumb it down and kill the creative spirit of the writers. They will ruin the best show on TV.
- topher1078, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Changing from cable channel from cable channel is bad; changing from cable to network is almost always an enormously great step for any show.
- revthwack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29SG-1 was ready to end. It had a good, long run, but it was dying. Sometimes you have to let things die before they slip into being crap. Plus, at least we still have Atlantis.
Of course, if they take or kill Eureka, then we'll know they are trying to doom the whole channel. - Pottersquash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27And the new breed of nerd is born. Go forth Battlestar, Uphold that which your forbarriers have brought. Forget your campy past and embrace your future.
Such a beautiful day, my dad feared strom troopers, I the borg, and my little brother now Cylons - goodshape, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26@topher,
Maybe, but from the article : "will NBC be tolerant of the quasi-political themes that BSG seems to take from the most controversial page of world events?"
^^ and that's exactly what I was thinking. I suspect you can get away with a bit more on cable television. I really don't want to see season 4 watered down for mass market appeal. - 0crabby0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16On tonights Battlestar Galactica - Joey moves in with Ross and the Cylons
- bfmorgan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18HDTV, yeah!
- shortstack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16i think i'm one of 6 people who likes studio 60....
- Veloxi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Is this fully accurate? Where's a press release? My BS-meter is going nutz
- GeneralFailure0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12POSSIBLE SPOILERS
What you said about the blood kinda made me wonder if they'd censor any content on NBC. Would they get away with the scene that was just on in the Season 3 Premiere where Starbuck stabs the cyclon through the throat? I'm not exactly sure what is tolerated at 10:00 on NBC. I hope they just leave it on Sci-Fi, change nothing. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Will we see again...
... Galatica reach the early 80's version of the earth?
... Will Cylons still go into cardic arrest in someones kitchen during
a Halloween party due to the microwave going on.
... Flying motor cycles driven by Starbuck and Apollo - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Don't you ever take pity on SciFi. EVER. They may have brought BSG to the US, but I won't forgive them for their past misgivings.
Sliders, bought then cancelled.
MST3K, bought then cancelled.
Farscape? Hello? Do I have everyone's attention now?
That network ain't atoning for their sins on the backs of all their other cancelled shows that they "HAD" to have then went cold on because they couldn't market it as dark edgy sci fi. I mean, Sci Fi let their option for Star Trek reruns lapse. STAR TREK! Why in their right mind would you let go a show that you can run FOREVER with no loss of viewership? That's like removing M*A*S*H from syndication. - Abyss_908, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I'm having flashbacks to Firefly.
- NoNom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14NBC went for the 1st network in ratings to 4th in a year. I have ZERO confidence in them.
The major issue with BSG being moved to NBC is the FCC's rules and regulations.
NBC, CBS, FOX, and ABC are all broadcasted over the air for free. Because of that, those networks have to abide the FCC's rules or they'll get fined (most of which are due to public outcry). With BSGs religious themes, level of violence, and sensuality they would get complaints left and right. Six's wardrobe or lack there of, would get complaints. Kacey's fall from the season premier would've gotten a ton of complaints.
What people fail to realize is that there are groups of wannabe czars that watch broadcast programs just to complain about the content. BSG needs to stay on cable/satellite in order to maintain its level of content. - zadadka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+115 Awards, 6 Nominations.....http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407362/awards
- SomeBlackGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I don't understand. Are they going to show BSG from the beginning, or just start showing it from this current season? That first episode is not going to make any sense to somebody watching it for the first time.
- Antagonist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Nope... I have no idea what you're talking about. They added in a bit more politics and character development, that's all. I like that stuff.
- Araxen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The only good thing I can see coming out of this is that they might finally get the emmy nominations this show deserves as best drama and best actor/actress.
- SomeBlackGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I think you underestimate the stupidity of network suits. Plus, being a critical success means nothing, see Arrested Development.
- davidpb145, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11This is lame.. there is no proof.. this is just speculation.
- Eccohawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8SciFi is going to have the BSG spin off Caprica to replace its lost brother soon. I personally don't see the move, if it happens, as a bad thing. Networks have been taking more and more risks on shows that just 5-10 years ago wouldn't have even been given a second look. Granted, not all of them last (Threshold, Invasion, Surface anyone?) but they're being given a chance, which is a step in the right direction. And Battlestar Galactica is a quality show that appeals to far more than your standard SciFi crowd because of the politics and larger human element over tech. Just the sheer size of NBC's affiliate area over SciFi's cable expanse will bring in more viewers. I for one think it will be a potentially good move for the show.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Universal owns both NBC and Sci-Fi.
They'll probably do like they've been doing with some other shows (Heroes, Surface) and air them on multiple stations, with the original airing in prime time on NBC, and a replay later in the week on Sci-Fi. - carpeclunes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7No blood? Have you seen NBC's Heroes? It has people sliced in half, guys stuck to walls with knives, and dudes with the tops of thier heads sawed off and their brains removed.
- Matteos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Either Mansquito or Frankenfish
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This wouldn't be bad if they showed BSG from the beginning miniseries (to get everyone else caught up) and let the Sci Fi network finish season 3 before completely moving the show to a new channel. It would basically be 2 back to back seasons with no breaks or reruns (as far as NBC is concerned), THEN they show season 3. This would also allow the writers/cast time to shoot seasons 4 and maybe 5.
This would be the only way BSG on NBC would be successful. Otherwise, normal people probably won't catch on and the numbers/ratings would suck, even if it already has a decent sized following. The average joe would turn it on one day and say "huh?" - GeneralFailure0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Then I'm one of the other 6. I thought it was a pretty clever show...
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I've never watched Battlestar Galactica, although I know that big networks have an affinity for canning great shows in order to show the normal *****.
I think I'm just still pissed about Invasion being canceled to make room for crappy comedies. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Let me put it this way: Cable's not available to me whatsoever, and I don't want to pay for DirecTV. My only other option is to download the episodes from torrents. I want to support the show, but I'm not going to pay $50+ a month to watch one show, when the majority of shows I watch are on major networks.
I'm happy about this, and hopefully, they don't ***** it up. Keep it in the same timeslot, just shift it to NBC.
I also think they should start it from the very beginning, and then just work it steadily every week until they catch up . - Kamic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Eureka got signed on for season 2, incase if you guys didnt hear...
- SomeBlackGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You should rent tv dvds from Netflix. It makes catching up with shows a lot easier.
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Great Now we can't have blood or any bad ***** in there, thats why I like cable, becuase they can do more stuff.
Though I would love the Frakin HD. - ThePict, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@Rickler
Sci-Fi had nothing to do with the demise of Firefly. That was Fox's doing. - pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Actually, NBC's biggest problem isn't the quality of shows, it's that they're cancel-happy. They cancel good shows before they even have a chance to take off, leaving just the instant gratification crap left.
I've stopped watching NBC because I'm tired of getting into good shows just for them to be cancelled. Look what they did with Surface, a good season, ended it in a cliffhanger, and then never followed up. They might as well have sent an NBC exec to my door to piss in my face. - fireface100, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Studio 60 is an amazing show if they cancelled it I would be soooo pissed
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just because it's taking Studio 60's spot doesn't mean cancellation... They could move Studio 60 somewhere else.
BSG after Heroes makes sense especially since you're likely to attract the same crowd for both.
Although, this SCARES THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME... I hope Ron Moore and David Eick have enough pull to preserve the artistic integrity of the show over the mindless drone network execs out to ruin television with reality TV. - rushiku, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yeah, now it'll be completely blood and gore free, like CSI
- jonj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i'll believe it when I see it.
however, i'm calling it ahead of time, if it moves - the FCC will officially add the word "Frack" to the banned words list :) - SomeBlackGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Always happy to oblige...
- ahknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Studio 60 is a freaking awesome show. I catch it every time. Hopefully by "replacing the slot" they mean it's moving, not cancelled...
That would be evil. Really evil. - topher1078, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5NBC knows what they are getting with Battlestar, and I really doubt they will mess too much with it, if at all. They know it won't get high ratings but will be a critics darling, and there's no point to picking up a show from another network just to mess with it. I don't know why people are so upset with this - the show will get a much bigger audience (especially from people who wrote the show off BECAUSE it was on the Scifi channel. It'll have first airings in HD, it'll get more attention, and possibly even a higher budget. Kudos to NBC for taking the chance on it.
And cable can't do anymore than network tv @ 9 at night; time of night is more important regarding censorship than network or basic cable. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@dclowd9901:
If you really want to pay for BG, why not consider downloading it from iTunes? Or, at least paying for it on ITMS and downloading the torrents anyway. That way you've given them a fair price and still are watching what you want to see. - Anubis2051, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This may be good for SG-1, since BSG is scifi's major ratings pull now, and with that gone, SG-1 may just stand a chance at actualy getting advertised again, and hopefully picked up for an 11th season.
