- Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61Well animals deserve a specific amount of fear, you shouldn't be going around hugging bears.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -5/+45Dangerous? I think Steve would want everyone to know that Animals are amazing and we should respect them for what they are and not fear them.
- rodtrent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26The wife and I were in Australia right after Steve started being real popular in the States. We asked a cabby if he watched the Crocodile Hunter. It took him a good 5 minutes before he realized who we were talking about. He thought we meant Crododile "Dundee" at first. After realizing who we were talking about, he said that Aussie's thought of Steve as a "poofter" (Aussie word for gay man). Australia only recognized Steve and his work after he became popular with the rest of the world. Sad.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Irwin went on record several times saying that if he was ever killed on camera, that he wanted it to be shown. That said, I'm sure he'd want to honor his wife's wishes if she said otherwise.
- Braxo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25I always did want to pat a bear on the head though.
Last words: "Here here little bear, I just want to pat you!" - EatingPie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I certainly hope they do not show his death. It's really unnecessary, save to satisfy the voyeristic desires of TV audiences.
His wife has stated that they do not want it shown, and the amount of pain and suffering it would cause her, and her children far outweighs any "need" audiences have to see Irwin's death.
-Pie - neoform, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I doubt discovery's in the habit of showing snuff films.
- roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Paul, you're correct, alot of it was showmanship.
He got a much bigger audience because of it. His whole purpose, as he saw it, was to help animals. It was out of that respect and desire to save them that he did what he did. You can say he "used them" for popularity, he did. But he did it to get the spotlight on him and his feelings and what he believed in.
He worked very hard to fight for conservation and protection of animals. Most people don't watch animal shows because they are boring. His show made you want to watch, even if it was just for the chance to see him get bit. In watching, you availed yourself to hear his point.
Understand? - Brocclibob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I'Il never understand how america gets this before australia. Or why the news story was run more in America than in Australia.
Man im gonna miss his documentaries. - milkmage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13why is it innacurate? it's just a link to the boradcast schedule for the show Irwin was filming when he was killed. the headline does not say "see him die"
- PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Steve Irwin was great at getting close to scary animals for the camera, but when I hear people talking about how talented he was, it just doesn't feel right.
If base jumpers misjudge their jump and die, or if spelunkers (look it up if you're not sure) get trapped or even if bungee jumpers make mistakes, I have real trouble finding sympathy for them too. The late Steve was not always a careful person around dangerous animals at all - I watched his docutainment on poisonous snakes and he was bitten by a cobra on his finger because - he was taunting it with his hand! He had to suspend filming to go to the nearest hospital by air ambulance from the outback. But actually Irwin made a career out of doing that - David Attenborough makes a career out of being a naturalist and would never take those kind of risks "for the camera".
Did he really respect animals that much or just did he just like the spectacle of showing off how brave he was and how dangerous the animal is?
Was the stingray incident just poetic justice?
Did his recklessness finally catch up with Mr Irwin?
Does asking these questions make me a bad person? - mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Steve "was" a typical Aussie bloke, that's why he didn't kick off in Australia really quickly, he was thought of as somewhat embarrassing because he was so unbelievably cliche and his accent was really strong.
and don't try and deny it Australians, that's how he was seen by a large majority here for a very long while - fuckingusername, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18wonder if they will show the whole thing?
I think If Steve had the say-so he would say show it just to show how dangerous animals could be.
R.I.P we miss you! - bking, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Blocked. Don't post referral links, and learn how to spell. Douche.
- empeethree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7stop posting your damn site!
blocked - metamorfoza, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9In Australia if you don't watch footy (asutralian rules football) you don't eat meat pies or you regard vegimite as a pieace of crap you are either a "poofta" or a "wog". That's why Australia ignored Steve for long time because he was not 'typical' Aussie bloke.
Australia has big problem with its 'values'. Thats the fact. - empeethree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ocean's Deadliest
For years, the waters of Australia's eastern shores have been teeming with the most dangerous creatures on earth. Join Steve Irwin, "The Croc Hunter," in his final documentary as he is joined by Phillippe Cousteau
His final Documentary.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They're not going to show the very last scenes I beleive, but it will still be good to see him in action.
- DubbedOver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You've already been banned on a previous name for spamming the same stuff, I remember digging down all your past comments. I dugg down all your new comments and marked your submissions as spam.
- rodtrent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Bear is a sensationalist and a nut. There's nothing real about what he does on the show. He even has a whole camera crew with him the whole time. Now, Survivorman, that's the real deal.

- ophilye, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13No, this is not the film that killed him.. this is just the last one he made.
The footage of his actual death was given to his wife, the only copy available (as all copies given to the police were destroyed).

Please digg this story down for innacuracy. - steven401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Seeing -42 diggs just makes people want to see what the comment is.
- Darthmalt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@paulowen
The ironic thing is stingrays rarely attack people (unless stepped on) and Irwin didn't even know that particular one was there. The weather was too bad to do the dangerous animals documentary he was working on. So he decided to film some fluff pieces for a kids documentary that his daughter was narrating. He swam up over the reef startled the stingray and got stung. Could have happened to any scuba diver. - ophilye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The digg says "This is the show that cost Steve his life."
It isn't. This is just the last one that was made & being shown.
It's misleading at best... - Dag_Yo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@neilharvey: "where does it say on the link that this is Steve's last documentary; it's just a kind of a schedule."
1) Move mouse over title of documentary
2) Click left mouse button (or right mouse button, if set to left-handed mouse button layout)
... or, alternatively...
1) Check the checkbox next to the show
2) Move mouse on top of the "Submit" button
3) Click left mouse button (or right mouse button, if set to left-handed mouse button layout)
Seems like posting a comment on digg required more effort though. Odd. - Punisher2K, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That show sucks. He's out there with an entire crew playing like he's stranded. He gets too thirsty and they hand him some water.
At least Survivor Man is out there alone, lugging around his own gear AND surviving. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They would never show his death.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm waiting for that Man vs Wild guy to die. I mean seriously he drank moisture from Elephant *****. WTF.
- QuantaS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you, sir, are a piece of animal excrement! we don't like your kind here on digg, no one wants you, just turn off your computer, give yourself a swift kick in the a$$, lay down, and realize that no one wants you.
- dAbReAkA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2/me is waiting for an article linking to a torrent ;)
anyways, RIP Steve ;) gj - nphp20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Holy ***** man, you need to shut the ***** up and fast. Get banned, don't create another new account and go die.

Stop with the spam jackass. That's 3 times you've posted the exact same pile of crap - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1His wife has ownership of all of the deaqdly footage, and does not want it to be shown. That being said, I would like to see it if it demonstrates something that could potentially save a life of a diver in the future.
Most likely, it will not be shown ever, and Animal Planet is using this to get ratings. - Dag_Yo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I won't disagree with you there; however, no submission is ever perfect. "empethree" posted the description a few comments above yours though. If digg implemented a "I submitted this story with a better/less blogspammy/more direct link" option that would allow people to vote for the best link, I think that would alleviate a lot of problems we're currently experiencing with digg.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If we want to get technical, he didn't die while filming Ocean's Deadliest. He suspended filming of that program for that day due to the weather, and then went to film shallow water animals for a kid's show he was doing that his daughter was slated to host.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Irwin - JesusIsSatan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just read an article yesterday that Irwin's wife was given the original film of Steve's death, and that no copies were even kept by the police because they were afraid of it getting out since the going price for it is $1 million.
I think his wife should sell it and use half the money for her family and the other half to maintain his wildlife preserve. Steve would've wanted it that way.
99.99% chance that Steve's last word was "Crickey!" - bairy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@steven
True, but that will most likely increase the number of people who will block the spammer. I doubt many/anyone will click the link. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1dag, the description came above my comment but was wasn't there when i was posting (am sure u have experienced that) and u can get perfect links, most links are perfect in fact. i made that comment after going through all the other comments... :)

- Rivetgeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Um hey jackass he was filming this documentary when they took a break and he was killed. So YES he died during filming of this documentary.
- igotgame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still can't believe he's dead, and I dispise those that offer 1 million to see a tape where he dies and not for the tapes where he lives. People would rather see 5 minutes of Steve gettin' poisened the see a re-run on how he wrestles a crock. I'm not saying I wouldn't watch it I'm just saying that this is a sensible matter and it shouldn't be treated as a trick just to boost up the ratings 4 fox or other tv stations. That's all
- TheDreadDiggerD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's called staying alive when stranded. You do what you must. If you needed water bad and had a large supply of elephant crap just lying around, would you be able to utilize that resource. Or would you just die? Just for the record, I hope for the latter.
- rbridenb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Digging this down for the sensational headline implying that Animal Planet would air a snuff film
But I'm glad they are airing the series, Steve would have insisted - PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4@roosterjm2k2
I see the point you're trying to make - that there was a more serious and beneficial side to his work, but good wildlife programs have good ratings and are educational to boot.
Steve's documentaries were far more sensational than educational. We will never see the final footage, but consider this - what educational point was he trying to make by getting close enough to the stingray that it could sting him - in the chest?
Do you ... understand? - UItraPiggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm probably going to watch this:
A: Because I love the series
B: Out of respect. - mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3show the whole thing??
Am I the only one who thinks airing this as part of a regular show will be grossly insensitive? - mcdavis941, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How'd you like to live in a world where you never knew when you might see video of your spouse's death on TV. Sorry, that trumps all other considerations. Don't show it.
