- jcgreenx, on 02/24/2009, -4/+288He also announced he will be leaving the show in six years to start a failed solo career.
- piemcgee, on 02/24/2009, -24/+235No Joel Goddard? lame.
- SpectreFire, on 02/24/2009, -0/+195I'll miss Joel though. Creepy creepy Joel.
- Jericho6, on 02/24/2009, -12/+202I approve of this move
- inactive, on 02/24/2009, -3/+155They offered it to him. But Joel is no spring chicken and probably just didn't want to move to the West Coast at this stage of his life.
- gforce051, on 02/24/2009, -1/+147My favorite part of Conan's show is hearing Joel Godard saying "CO-NAN O BRIYYYYEN"
- cor315, on 02/24/2009, -0/+120in the year two thouuusaaaand
- lolipop99, on 02/24/2009, -2/+104Cone Bone made a good move with this one, Andy can join him in skits and jokes without having to be that awkward right shoulder comment guy during interviews with celebs!
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -1/+89Conan said that everyone was being offered their jobs on the new show. Just like with Letterman in 1993, all the major players went. But some behind the scenes people like cameramen didn't want to leave NBC and their future pensions and they stayed. With Joel...he has been an east coast NBC guy for much longer than just his run on Conan. I don't know if that really is the reason that he said no, but he certainly WASN'T pushed out so they could offer it to Richter. The man probably wanted to retire soon anyway (or go into semi-retirement while doing a few specials like his long time job as the announcer for the Thanksiving Day Parade on NBC) and not everybody wants to pick up their family and move 3000 miles.
- angelgabe, on 02/24/2009, -0/+88IN THE YEAR 2000
- WordsnCollision, on 02/24/2009, -3/+81Andy rules, hopefully he'll do more than just be the announcer.
- theamazingkort, on 02/24/2009, -2/+80The prophecy has come full circle...
- JonProject, on 02/24/2009, -1/+74Reading that - I could totally hear his voice.
- sloppyjoes7, on 02/24/2009, -4/+67Andy Richter Controls the Universe was one of the funniest shows I have ever watched.
- TheNyquilKid, on 02/24/2009, -1/+58Good News everyone, I invented a device to make you read this in your head, in my voice!
- tbhurst, on 02/24/2009, -0/+55As Ed McMahon would have said, "Yes!"
- Amadeus2490, on 02/24/2009, -1/+54I'm happy that Andy's back, yet sad that Joel won't be there.
So what, is Andy gonna have to start liking beefy Asian men, too? ::big, soulless smile:: - Hetman, on 02/24/2009, -1/+53This is awesome. I always wanted andy back on the conan show.
- TheMachine1, on 02/25/2009, -1/+53Joel is going to retire and focus full time on his love for male strippers.
- archaist, on 02/24/2009, -4/+53I don't think Late Night's portrayal of Joel would sit well with the 10:30 audience.
- Applequest, on 02/24/2009, -0/+45Depends which time zone you live in.
- Cosmos7, on 02/24/2009, -2/+41What!? first off his name is Joel, and they released Abe Vigoda back into the wild, not Joel. Get your facts right.
- JordanM85, on 02/24/2009, -2/+40This is the best news I have ever heard in my life. They better take that new desk out for a drive.
- Ellrick, on 02/25/2009, -0/+36Andy Richter Controls the Universe was good enough IMO to call his solo career a success.
Im sure he would have liked to have made some money too though. - turtlegroove, on 02/24/2009, -25/+56I honestly forgot all about Andy! I like him but his career never quite panned out...talk about going back to Conan with your tail between your legs!
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -0/+30I don't hate leno, but Conan IS funnier than leno most of the time
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 02/25/2009, -1/+30Very, very different. The type of people who like Leno are the type of people who hate Conan.
- civilizedevil, on 02/24/2009, -2/+31Great news, Andy is hilarious in small doses, having him off the couch with a lesser role is a smart idea.
- granolajoe, on 02/24/2009, -0/+28I seriously hope the staredowns come back. I still remember the time that Conan had Uncle Sam come out and Andy lost concentration and flipped out. It was hilarious.
- TheMachine1, on 02/25/2009, -0/+25http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Godard
"graduated in 1960 with a degree in chemistry"
Cool he was a geek. - AudioLoveMagic, on 02/24/2009, -0/+24Between this and The Legendary Roots Crew as the house band for Fallon, NBC late night is kind of doing it right.
- gregmo, on 02/25/2009, -0/+24He was talking about when Letterman moved from NBC to CBS. Letterman's behind-the-scenes people had been with NBC for a while and moving to CBS meant losing the benefits NBC offered them.
- coloneltcb, on 02/25/2009, -0/+22what will Toshi do now that his sugar daddy has no income?
- dafragsta, on 02/25/2009, -0/+21He said he's not changing it and the type of people who like Conan are the type of people who like The Simpsons, and it's stupid to shape a performer to an audience if he's been successful historically.
Conan will improve the ratings at the new slot once the old people stop watching and the new people find out it's not lame. Conan is appealing to a much larger, younger and more valuable demographic. - alvination, on 02/25/2009, -4/+24Except for Jimmy Fallon.
- HA5TY, on 02/24/2009, -9/+28you mean 11:30 audience....
- conebone69, on 03/02/2009, -3/+20I hope Triumph the Insult Comic Dog isn't really gone.
- gozroth, on 02/24/2009, -0/+17it'll be good to see them back together
- brandonAll, on 02/25/2009, -0/+17Andy Richter...Secrets!
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -1/+17I'm a terrible actor? I'm a terible actor?!?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo.......... - tgc1, on 02/25/2009, -0/+16"And which one of these buttons calls your parents to come pick you up?"
- 2Pharcyded, on 02/24/2009, -1/+16in the year 2000!!!
bless la bamba - username7410, on 02/24/2009, -6/+21I feel bad for Andy, he pretty much failed for what 15 years at trying to do more than Conan's Ed McMahon and now he's just the announcer?
Also, it sucks that Conan can't jsut do the Tonight Show in NY. - krahzee, on 02/24/2009, -0/+15Max is going to LA with the whole band as well. Did you not watch the final week?
- CTK14A, on 02/25/2009, -0/+14It's alright, Joel's story has a happy ending.
http://content.ytmnd.com/content/e/8/9/e89a4e4e7a6 ... - tgc1, on 02/25/2009, -0/+13I used to love Conan when Andy was on. The two of them getting into their antics was very entertaining. Over the years after he left the show, I found myself tuning in less and less frequently. Now that he's coming back, I might just start watching again.
Not that Conan on his own can't entertain, he always does. But the two of them had some sort of extra together that apart I felt they were lacking. Glad to hear he's coming back. - sjb22, on 02/24/2009, -1/+14andy should be a writer/sketch actor but any real fan of conan will miss the hell out of joel! best smile in show business. I hope this was his decision to retire, he is kinda old lol.
- UncleCrapper, on 02/24/2009, -0/+13No, Ed would have just guffawed for no reason.
- craigily, on 02/25/2009, -0/+13heyo!
