- Trekhawk, on 11/06/2008, -10/+87A little perspective:
-Largest rating since Super Bowl.....which was in February...9 months ago
-The Super Bowl was on 1 channel. Barack was on half a dozen with cable.
-Super Bowls happen EVERY year. Presidential acceptance speeches happen every 4 years. - SVOboy, on 11/05/2008, -14/+82I wonder how many people would watch the NY Giants win the presidency?
- bixby1, on 11/05/2008, -5/+50Sorry. Neilsen just issued a correction I guess and the post was changed to 71 million. still huge but the title did previously read 78 million when i sub'd it. trust me.
*Reported by Diggers as possibly inaccurate but still awesome. - Tamant, on 11/06/2008, -0/+27SPOILERS?
- dirtyhipster, on 11/06/2008, -1/+22Thats a moot point because the super bowl only comes on one channel. The election results come on 14 channels, so im sure almost all of them would have watched it anyway, but just watched in on their favorite station. Just like if it came on faux news, I wouldn't have watched it. So instead I got to see CNN use hologram technology and masturbate to soledad o'brien
- dirtyhipster, on 11/06/2008, -0/+19ITS REAL TO ME DAMNIT
- SemiSarcastic, on 11/06/2008, -2/+18*sees another Obama article*
DRINK! - x1soundgarden1x, on 11/06/2008, -0/+15Yeah but what about the millions of people like me that watched live feeds over the internet via cnn.com and msnbc.com etc.? They never take that into account and thus continue to under-report viewership.
- datagod, on 11/06/2008, -2/+16I wonder how much the commercials cost?
- drex8, on 11/06/2008, -0/+10Actually, if you consider the number of people who watched it live internationally..it would be a huge number.
Would probably even break Super Bowl's ratings. - inactive, on 11/06/2008, -0/+9PRESIDENT SIMPSON WINS SUPER BOWL
- The Simpsons, "When Flanders Failed" - missjb, on 11/06/2008, -1/+10ya i saw that change too. still a good article.
- roxgod666, on 11/06/2008, -1/+10Hopefully there were more votes cast for president than the American Idol winner.
- dvsbastard, on 11/06/2008, -1/+10Not to mention, here where I work practically everything / everyone stopped to watch his acceptance speech...
/All the way from Australia - Trekhawk, on 11/06/2008, -1/+10Dugg for being humble enough to correct and bring light to your own error.
- GamingForever, on 11/06/2008, -6/+14I couldn't watch it because I had to go to bed early....
- midgetdiablo, on 11/06/2008, -1/+9Just imagine how many more people watched the election considering people outside the US.
- LordBacon, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7Nah Bush declared martial law before, read the news (particularly fox news)!
- mmittimm, on 11/06/2008, -1/+7But isn't it a bit sad that it didn't surpass the Superbowl? Seems like it should...
- przemeklach, on 11/06/2008, -2/+7This is good to hear, but it's still sad that more people watched the superbowl than this.
- BenKenobi88, on 11/06/2008, -0/+5Uh, sure it does. Not every voting citizen has to watch TV...
They could tune in the next day, listen to the radio, I dunno. - Mihey, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4HEY GUY! You can skip over election themed titles. Thanks.
- Maggette, on 11/06/2008, -3/+7Not so great across 14 networks lol.
- MikeyTwit, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4I don't really do sports, and I am a bit of a political junkie, so this was my Superbowl!!
- FreeTalkLIve, on 11/06/2008, -1/+5To all of you die hard Republicans that voted for Bush's second term.
You are the reason Obama is our next president.
Cause and effect is a bitch aint it? - abajaj2280, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4ONE HUNDRED BILLLLLION DOLLLARS!
- gabbagabba, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4Wait, more people watched the Super Bowl than all the other presidential elections?
There's something terribly wrong about that - jermm, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3Don't need to watch TV to find out who's winning, got NPR, TWIT Live, random people in Team Fortress, etc.
Watching red/blu(e) maps ≠ Football game. - areyouserious, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3Umm..... It was the election they were watching not just obama.
- brownsound00, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3well if they wanted to compare the international numbers, they should compare it to the world cup, which gets a lot more views than the superbowl (obviously, since it appeals to more then just america)
- suinmind, on 11/06/2008, -1/+4The saddest thing for the US is, the rating is still LOWER than super bowl.
- bandoftheweek, on 11/06/2008, -0/+32.3 trillion dollars.
- drex8, on 11/06/2008, -1/+4Over 9000.
- exscape, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3The article being changed after submitting it isn't his fault.
- brownsound00, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3No joke, I was talking about Obama on the bus with my friend yesterday, and some guy was like... wait, hold on... who won yesturday? I was like, uhh, Obama? And he's was like. YESSSSSS.
But i live in Canada, so i guess it's not as big a deal. - crowbar77, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3You do realize this is digg dont you?
- randomstupid, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3whats so great about a soup bowl
- KidSupreme, on 11/06/2008, -5/+7First of all, probably a billion people watched worldwide
- souljaboytellem, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2Awwwww, so close, but yet, so fail
- JonnyClash, on 11/06/2008, -2/+4Who won what?
- vizeroth, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2or didn't have plenty of other ways of finding out instead of watching television.
- PuddMaster, on 11/06/2008, -1/+3the superbowl also doesnt air after midnight. if his victory speech was earlier then it would have shattered the ratings for the superbowl
- dzw120, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2I don't think it is - after all, there were a lot of people following the election who didn't see it on their TV. Everyone who went out to a rally didn't see it on TV; Neither did the people who followed it through online viewing. On top of that, the election results came in fairly late in the night (~9-11PM EST) while the Superbowl kicks off closer to prime time.
- baldmage, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2pretty good numbers but you people act like its some amazing thing. 71 million from 14 network isn't that impressive, since thats like 5 million per network. ABC, FOX, NBC, and CBS usually draws 14+ millions with their prime time shows. This isn't even counting the other networks yet.
- lazyfisherman, on 11/06/2008, -2/+4Barack Obama is famous.
- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -1/+3Yes we spam!
- eccles30, on 11/06/2008, -1/+3Obama who?
- duckley, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1Ha!
After the joy of an Obama win, comes the icing on the cake:
Faux News contradicting itself, over and over, in its eagerness to rip Palin apart on behalf of angry Republi-scums everywhere!
