- zakatov, on 07/09/2008, -3/+52Good for them... bad for us. Good thing there's internet. (and digg, which is so unbiased and neutral)
- TheVigilante, on 07/09/2008, -3/+40As long as Alec Baldwin is head of NBC, I'll support GE.
- likwidtek, on 07/09/2008, -1/+37Go outside, read a book. It's your only escape.
- mercenarybw, on 07/09/2008, -4/+40***** Viacom!
- craprock, on 07/09/2008, -0/+20http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KVTfcAyYGg You should watch the whole thing, but he starts talking about the media at about 58 seconds in. And when I say he, I mean George Carlin. (I know it's old, but it wouldn't hurt to watch it again.)
- sugarazor, on 07/09/2008, -0/+18Technically yes. They have the same majority shareholder, but the company was "split" in 2006.

Not everything from "the man" is automatically bad. - Mist0r_Wiggles, on 07/09/2008, -0/+14i'm glad the Discovery Channel isn't owned by any of them
- Justin6512, on 07/09/2008, -1/+15who owns G4? because I would like to ***** them over, just like the ***** tech tv's shows over!
I think it might be comcast or some other cable company? - humanerror, on 07/09/2008, -1/+15I went outside and a bird shat on me.
Thanks a lot *****. - hobbers, on 07/09/2008, -0/+14Thank goodness Discovery Channel isn't on there. Discovery Communications is one last bastion of decent programming on the TV.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discovery_Communicati ... - SpectreFire, on 07/09/2008, -0/+12They'll never own the BBC! Muahahahah!
- pintomp3, on 07/09/2008, -1/+13it's more than just tv:

- sh4d0w4lk3r, on 07/09/2008, -0/+9Comcast...I've hated them with passion ever since.

The British Government can't even get it's head around running the ***** country... never mind running the BBC as well.
FTR I have friends who work for BBC news and I can unequivocally state (without any doubt) that: The British Government has absolutely no say over BBC content wot-so-ever. In fact there are numerous cases cited about Blair and Thatcher actually hearing events unfolding on the BBC well before they got them from their official sources. - Inflammo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8I hear the Microwave Oven Programming division is especially profitable.
- sumeetg, on 07/09/2008, -2/+10The men sitting in the top floors of these corporations are very friendly with the current administration. When a country is in a situation where the media reports what the government wants it to, the government is no longer responsible to the people. And in an environment like this a democracy cannot function properly. Blame President Bush all you want for America's problems but if the media was doing a its job he wouldn't dare try to pull off half of the stuff that he does
- mrblue182, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8i see what you did there
- MrTito, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8Everyone talks about the seven words... To me, though, the bit in that clip and the monologue about religion are way more meaningful to me. Not much comedy to them, heavy and serious stuff. But they are core examples for how people should be (but mostly aren't) critical thinkers. Carlin's legacy is enormous.
- aigulf, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8One more reason to love the Discovery Channel, it's not owned by one of the big 6 (at least, that I could see).
- beermaker, on 07/09/2008, -2/+9OMFG!!!...
But i don't see discovery networks. what about them? - MrTito, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7Six companies - Six catagories.
I sense a new edition of Trivial Pursuit. - Sprules04, on 07/09/2008, -1/+8So...who owns the Discovery Channel and its sister channels?
- Hangly, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7www.theyrule.net
You can learn a lot of interesting things here about who owns what. - GeneralSprint, on 07/09/2008, -5/+11Correction! A few thinktanks control all AMERICA'S Tv! Not so over here in the UK! Tune into BBC News. You'll have it on American Cable as well. Totally fresh look at the news. No spin on it. Just facts!
- poppacherry, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6this actually reminds me of that classic SNL cartoon that only got aired once...
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1057391195 ... - Pusod, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6It's only a matter of time until the Discover Channel caves in and gets bought out by one of these conglomerates. Here's hoping they stay independent!
- thegodfaza, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6The Screen Savers ftw
- borez, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6The Queen actually owns nothing, she's just a cake decoration.
And... that was a treasonous statement for which I could have my head cut off. - Kanele, on 07/09/2008, -3/+8Funny how the the quality of programs is inversely proportionnal to the size of the budget
- fokov, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5"the government is no longer responsible to the people" As I would like to blame fascism on the people that are involved. The problem is the people do not hold their government accountable. That leads to the fact that government is no longer responsible to the people. As long as the majority have their eyes and ears closed, we will continue to get screwed over by people that don't care about us.
- Hangly, on 07/09/2008, -1/+6They're a foreign country, and their national interest may not coincide with our own.
- infinitus64, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5the average American television viewer is close to 50 years of age most of us up to beat Americans get our news from the web but you are right that the news stations do have a slant.
- xstarsprinklesx, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Co-ownership, as it was a merging of The WB and UPN (which was owned by CBS).
- MrTito, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Viacom owns pop culture.
- Hangly, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5George Carlin was a philosopher king.
- cheesehead, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Actually they also run your country by not covering any political candidates, that don't toe the corporate line.
- Hangly, on 07/09/2008, -1/+6The BBC is owned by the Qwean, just like everything else in Englishland.
- Thwarter, on 07/09/2008, -1/+5Scary and sad at the same time.
Corporations used to be held in check by government so they would not monopolize markets. But now corporations own enough of the government via lobbyists and campaign contributions that government now turns a blind eye.
I am all for capitalism, but capitalism dies when there is only one or a couple big players in the pond who all have the same agenda.
Ultimately, there will only will be a few corprations left. They will be called Food, Energy, and Communcations. Military will still be ran by the government who will, of course, bow to the commands of the collective Corporations.
But, by then we will have Rollerball, so it will all somehow be OK.
/me pukes. - Coltb, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4u suck
- voleur, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4Wait - I don't see Sheinhardt Wig Company anywhere... Buried as inaccurate.
