You say meesa gonna die? - MakanGuru, on 10/12/2008, -1/+58after the crap that was the "prequel" of Star Wars why the hell would they want to do this?
"I hate the sand, it's so rough, not like you skin, which is so smooth..."
worst damn romantic line EVER written...... - 350Zed, on 10/13/2008, -2/+28This is a great idea!
The Star Wars franchise was greatly improved in the last decade with the introduction of sucky acting, more annoying characters, and more kiddy-humor.
Yes, Star Trek should definitely follow this example. - kingofinternet, on 10/12/2008, -8/+33star wars is atavistic tripe
TREK ALL DAY EVERYDAY BITCHES - FallenTurtles, on 10/13/2008, -5/+29I think a better role model is the new Battlestar. That takes elements of both these films/series and makes them unbeatable. Though I must admit, Battlestar might be better with Han Solo involved.
- cusoman, on 10/13/2008, -1/+25Mr Binks, here's your red shirt.
Meesa like red! Yay! - Haoie, on 10/12/2008, -2/+24Oh no, if Trek becomes more like wars, what are the nerds going to argue over?
- orion846, on 10/13/2008, -1/+22who the ***** wants star trek to be more like star wars? does anyone want weed to effect them more like alcohol does even though alch is more mainstream?
- skabyss, on 10/13/2008, -0/+21Next week on digg: 5 ways to make Apples more like Bananas
- hokie47, on 10/13/2008, -2/+22More like 5 ways to ruin star trek
- MonkeyNews, on 10/13/2008, -2/+21In response to the article - I believe I speak for all Trekkies when I say "***** Off".
The day Star Trek become like Star Wars is the day it dies. - Georgy, on 10/13/2008, -0/+16Nuff said...You made your point....
Let star trek be... - MrFurious2k, on 10/13/2008, -0/+14I enjoy both of these franchises, but I'm a Trek fan first. Copying Star Wars would be a terrible idea because it would take away that which made ST great.
As for the ideas... this guy must have spent too much time in Hollywood because a lot of those reasons are why Hollywood has been churning out so much garbage lately. - Clad, on 10/13/2008, -1/+15Dumbledore Calrissian
- gradivus, on 10/13/2008, -0/+10Hold me like you did on Naboo.
- Dundasbro, on 10/13/2008, -1/+11No, "What do you say I take you home and eat your pussy?" is the worst romantic line ever written.
- IronTek, on 10/13/2008, -2/+12Yes. I do want a DS9 movie, actually.
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -1/+10I actually threw up in my mouth a little with the " are you an angel?" line.
But it's ok, I decided to inject my own reality where Lucas suffered a massive coronary immediately after the premier of Return of the Jedi and no more movies were ever made. - exipolar, on 10/13/2008, -1/+10WHY?!?!?!?!
- ryan99fl, on 10/13/2008, -0/+9Tribbles vs. Ewoks?
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -2/+11I might catch some hell for this, but I always though Firefly was always the best mashup of a Star Wars/Star Trek type universe. You have the used-future looks and heroes and grit of Star Wars, and deal with issues of humanity and it's future as Star Trek.
But, really, they are all what they are. I watch Star Trek for a different reason than I do for Star Wars, I dont really want them to reflect each other. - analogkid01, on 10/13/2008, -0/+8"Enterprise...what we got back...didn't live long...fortunately."
- bagboyrebel, on 10/13/2008, -0/+7"But II is one of the worst movies of all time." Do you really believe that? Maybe one of the worst of the Star Wars movies, but out of all movies ever?
- gopher043, on 10/13/2008, -0/+6For video games : Here's hoping the new Star Trek MMO that is being produced will not suck like the turd Star Wars Galaxies turned into.
I'm hoping that Kirk makes out with his *gasp* sister!
I'm hoping that Spock shoots first. - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -0/+6Make him have a transporter "accident"
- marphtwo, on 10/13/2008, -1/+7I agree. People like Star Trek exactly because it is not like Star Wars. It does bring more meaning to the story lines with more believable ideas and more believable characters. Make it believable. Star Wars is not believable.
Im sorry, but a light saber doesn't do it for us, unless you can bring some scientific background to it. A beam of light is only energy, it cannot make a physical barrier. If it is using a force field (brought forth in Star Trek) then why give it different colors of light at all? Make it harder for the enemy to see it by making it invisible.
In addition, the new Star Wars movies have been plagued by bad acting, bad graphics, and a bad story line (The originals excluded). I read Clone Wars, and then was subsequently disappointed by a movie that didn't stand up to the book.
There is more to movies and TV series than action! Star Wars is basically a porno compared to Star Trek! - MiddleOfNowhere, on 10/13/2008, -0/+5So?
In George Lucas' little mind, all these millennia are basically an everlasting mash-up of the Good Ol' West, Dungeons & Dragons and a lot of Campbell-ish pulp SF.
One Star Trek (TNG) show has more substance than the whole prequel mess, so maybe your 25,000 years of Cowboys and Indians in Space isn't that important, hmm? - doctordbx, on 10/13/2008, -0/+5Because we prefer other submissions of quality such as:
McCain V. Obama
Mac V PC
Linux V Everything else
iPhone V Android
You're 100% correct. - TheAngryMob, on 10/13/2008, -1/+6In other words, you want DS9? Hmmmm....
- bagboyrebel, on 10/13/2008, -1/+5Battlestar is a good drama, but I wouldn't call it a good Sci-Fi.
- asilentecho, on 10/13/2008, -0/+4Not only are these terrible ideas, but the movie is already finished.
- QsheiK, on 10/13/2008, -2/+6This submission will generate nothing but pointless arguing on which franchise is better.
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -0/+4Ummm, Anakin was like 9 when he said that.
- chilipeppers4u, on 10/13/2008, -0/+4Does anyone else find the pic of Leia kissing Kirk horribly disturbing?
- ryan99fl, on 10/13/2008, -3/+7*insert reference to Galaxy Guest's expendable plucky comic relief guy*
- Jektal, on 10/13/2008, -1/+5No, Luke did.
It smells purty. - Tbyrd073, on 10/13/2008, -2/+6Star Trek did well with DS9, especially after the Dominion War starts.
- gradivus, on 10/13/2008, -0/+4Yep, Farscape and Firefly were both really really good and at the very least Firefly needs to be brought back(***** you Fox). And the last 3-4 season of Voyager were some of the best Trek made. Enterprise tried to bridge the gap between Utopian ideals and modern savagery and was very good once you got past the god awful theme song.
- Harabeck, on 10/13/2008, -1/+5The originals were works of art, unfortunately it appears they were just luck on Lucas's part. The Star Wars setting, the universe itself is so much more interesting than Star Trek's.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/13/2008, -0/+4A slow, painful accident like in the first Star Trek movie.
- tao52nyc, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3They are completely different cultures for very different (but occasionally overlapping) audiences. Let Trek be Trek.
- jer21, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3Shark Attack 3.
- MiddleOfNowhere, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3Star Wars is fantasy. It was good clean fun in 1977, when most of the world thought SF was über-intellectual, high-concept stuff like "2001". It was colorful, loud, visually interesting, and when I was ten years old, I thought this was the fricking second coming.
But Star Wars is as important to the Science-Fiction genre as "Saturday Night Fever" (which came out the same year) is for the history of ballet. They are remote cousins, and that's about it.
Anyway; google "George Lucas" and "Joseph Campbell". You will probably find a few interesting articles (I especially recommend the one on Salon), and I can stop foaming at the mouth. :)
Star Trek, on the other hand, tries to do what all good SF does: It's about change. It shows what happens when a crew/society is confronted with something new, disturbing, dangerous, a superior force, a problem that cannot be solved used guns and lasers. Admittedly, a lot of it looks dated and ridiculous today, there is chauvinism, horrible acting and unnecessary melodrama ... But Gene Roddenberry at least tried to envision the future. Lucas just wanted to play Cowboys and Indians in outer space. - dougmc, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3Still Star Trek vs. Star Wars.
Of course, there's still always Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Blake's 7 and Space 1999 to compare to Star Wars and Star Trek. - Tbyrd073, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy was good but there are other books written that were pretty damn good too.
- gradivus, on 10/13/2008, -1/+4JJ called and said the funeral will be held just as soon as he gets done.
- brandita, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3Star Trek: A New Hope
- smaskat, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3Screw u.. Spock FTW.
- KeillRandor, on 10/13/2008, -2/+5I actually quite liked a lot of DS9 - though I will admit that a few episodes were a bit off...
- bjs3171, on 10/13/2008, -0/+3III was by far the best out of the first 3. That's all.
