- EnjoyFailure, on 11/03/2009, -2/+51It's not Lost, but it's a pretty watchable show. It's certainly not as bad as Heroes.
- AmyVernon, on 11/03/2009, -1/+47The article has some valid points, but the one in the intro paragraph (and this desc) doesn't matter - look at Jack Bauer. He's a guy in the LA field office of CTU and has saved the United States, if not the world, seven times. And he's about to go for his eighth.
- WafflesID, on 11/04/2009, -0/+39Heroes season 1 was damn awesome. Watched the whole season on hd-dvd over a weekend. couldn't stop watching.
We need to start going back to MINI SERIES.
Lots of great ideas, but when you try to stretch these great ideas out into several seasons, you ruin it. - ricker2005, on 11/04/2009, -1/+30He never jests. And don't call him Shirley.
- fluidfoundation, on 11/04/2009, -0/+18But, there's no lesbian teasing. Surely you jest, sir.
- Zizmeister, on 11/04/2009, -2/+19In my flashforward I saw my comment get buried.
- davincih, on 11/03/2009, -3/+20I tried to give this show a chance, but this week I gave up on it. Can't take the bad acting or the boring plot any longer.
- daviz0, on 11/04/2009, -2/+18so far my favorite new show this year is probably SGU followed my Community and Glee. also looking forward to V and spartacus blood and sand
- Retrodigg123, on 11/04/2009, -0/+15anybody watch breaking bad? now THATS a show.
- inactive, on 11/03/2009, -9/+2424, Lost, Heroes and Flash Forward are good ideas for movies but are just boring when dragged out week after week on TV.
- CourageWulf, on 11/04/2009, -0/+13Umm Lost couldn't be a movie...way too much information to be jammed into a 2 hour flick.
- Rsulliv1, on 11/04/2009, -3/+166. Why hasn't this LA FBI team of two branched out and seen more about what the CIA, DHS, FBI headquarters, other countries' intelligence units are doing about the problem?
It seems ridiculous to believe that one guy is going to pretty much go solo on this whole thing because he sees himself working on the issue in his flash forward. This isn't a Jack Bauer situation where it's very localized to one place, time, occurrence. It affects literally everyone, everywhere. Him working on it in the future in no way would lead a rational person to believe that they're the ONLY person working on it. It doesn't even mean he's working on the right path!
It's just ignorance that this show isn't taking a global collaboration-solution to this whole problem.
7. Each time some breakthrough happens, someone doesn't get it at all. 1. The FBI boss (the black dude) tries to shut down the investigation after the main character finds that one person awake during the blackout. 2. When the main dude and the FBI lady find the information about all of the crows dying & the towns-people in Africa all passing out simultaneously, her first ***** sentence was "What does this have to do with anything?". This was during the episode which focused on a murder of crows dying having some relation to the case.
8. during the trial, when being confronted by the lady senator about why they should keep their funding and/or receive add'l funding. It appears that the CIA has vague leanings toward "China" as the culprit, but nothing factual except some random stat about how less people died in china per capita (taking nothing at all into account in that stat). But, this ***** FBI squad has 1. apprehended a girl that has some vague information about "her people" working with this blackout (ep 1), 2. that doll-head guy that made phone calls during the blackout, 3. video of a person at a stadium walking around during the blackout.
Really, how hard would it be to convince that entire committee of your value, including the standoffish woman senator with an ax to grind (for some yet unknown reason)??
Then, after that scene, the main guy quips: "I guess I shouldn't have told them about the doll heads" and herold agrees with him. Are you ***** kidding me? you found some crazy guy with direct links to the situation, mind you, it's the only real piece of evidence you gave the committee, and you think THAT was your downfall??
It's just not common sense behavior in their writing. I've been wanting to vent these details for a few weeks now... :) - inactive, on 11/03/2009, -6/+18Ha, I stopped watching after the first episode. From what I can see, it didn't go far.
- homer524, on 11/04/2009, -0/+11story arcs for the entire shows need to be sketched out BEFORE the pilot is even filmed. There should be no meandering plots, few filler episodes, and contingency plans in case the actors quit. There should be a set number of seasons.
a la Babylon 5 - MattZed, on 11/04/2009, -0/+11What the heck are you talking about there is no lesbian teasing?
Have you watched the show? There are lesbians, pretty good lookers too. - eTronicGaming, on 11/04/2009, -1/+10Why, because it's true and you like Michael Bay?
- Soonago, on 11/04/2009, -1/+9This show has really impressed me so far. Before it premiered I read about how the writers had meticulously plotted out the first season of the show, and you can really notice the effort. The clues and mysteries have been perfectly paced. With a high concept show like this, I just accept that the plot mechanics require that the characters need a little extra time to grow on you and give you more dynamics. It's designed as one season long story, so a little patience is required.
Based on the last episode, Dominic Monaghan's character seems to provide the cure to the "yawn" characters. - Maxwell1234, on 11/04/2009, -0/+7Community is awesome... check out "Modern Family" as well. It's on Wednesdays.
- chrrie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6I really want to like the show, but it drives me nuts how they must think their audience is comprised of complete morons. Every time they reference something, like someone else's flash forward for example, they replay the entire original scene. I think everyone's actual FF has been in just about every episode. I just don't think it's good execution. And the acting, even though there are some of my favorite characters from other shows, just seems off to me.
- kenyadoit, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6In my flash forward, I saw this show getting cancelled and a remake of another science fiction classic takes its time slot.
- heroesdietrying, on 11/04/2009, -1/+7I hate the Heroes writers so much. They continue to ruin what has the potential to be a good show.
- wolfing, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5I'm liking it so far. It's no Lost (yet), but it's good.
- daviz0, on 11/04/2009, -1/+6best mini series ever = the lost room
- tylercasset, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5We have to wait till this final season for any final assessment on Lost. If they close it out right then his "best of all time" point might hold up. The legacy for shows is often made or broken on the final season, which is why The Shield holds up from pilot to finale as one of the best shows ever.
FlashForward? Meh. Interesting premise, looks good in HD, but I don't think I have the patience to wait it out. His board currently has around four things on it. In his flash forward that board is packed. Basically, they better get moving already. - Vermifax, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5There's lez action in FlashForward. In a restaurant.
- daviz0, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5wow looking through these comment some people seem to think lost has fallen in quality, am I the only one who thinks its been not only consistently good but got better and better as the season go on , i thought season 5 was awesome and think season 6 will be even better.
I have binky79 approach towards lost. - daviz0, on 11/04/2009, -1/+6heroes was pretty awesome in season 1 probably the best show that year and lost has been good all the way through and flash forward is ok, i've not watched 24
- huskygeek, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5The underlying question still is outstanding, can they change the future or is the future set? It seems that they do everything to match what is going to happen in the future, like him putting the exact same things on the board in the exact same places. Why not try putting the items in a different order or change a picture and tempt fate :) At least he tried to take off his daughter's bracelet she made for him but I am counting on her giving him another one.
- rotundo, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4So I like FlashForward. It's not the greatest thing ever, but I find it pretty enjoyable. I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone that wasn't a big sci-fi fan.
Still, I guess I'm always surprised how people want to make a claim about how a show is objectively bad. As if there's never been something they liked that someone else didn't call out as having "bad acting" and "boring characters". I don't enjoy some 99% of television programming, but someone obviously does and I don't see any point in my trying to point out why they're wrong. Or visa versa.
I guess the part of it that bugs me is this idea that everything needs to appeal to me or it's flawed. Only something that works for everyone should be made. This sucks for me because I tend to like things that most people don't like. I actually joke about having a death-touch... any show that I dig is almost surely going to get cancelled (Firefly, Conviction, Daybreak, Sarah Connor Chronicles, etc...). I'm shocked Fringe is still on.
I just wish someone would figure out how to make and market a show for the 20% or so of people who don't dig what's in the mainstream. FlashForward is one of those shows, and there are surely a few million people who like it (even if the author of this piece doesn't). Is that really proof that it sucks? Or that it shouldn't exist? - zip000, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4Odd, he doesn't bother me at all. I think he's pretty good really.
- shanealeslie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4I read the book by Robert J Sawyer that this is 'based on' years ago. Great book, Robert J. Sawyer is a great writer, and I look forward to more of his books getting adapted. They should have done this book as either a movie or mini-series; and actually done the book and not just used the premise of the flashforward as a trigger for yet another 'law enforcement' series.
- danwallace, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Lost is the best show on television and has been for five years running. Season five was the best yet.
- brbeaird, on 11/04/2009, -2/+6This show is losing me quickly. I agree with the article that something has to happen soon or else I'll lose interest completely.
- fluidfoundation, on 11/04/2009, -4/+8After finishing up the pilot of V an half hour ago, Flash Forward is ***** clownshoes in comparison. V trumped Flash Forward on in acting, effects, and mood. And they didn't have to overact every scene.
- danwallace, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4Are you kidding me? Lost is better now than it has ever been before. The last season finale has left me more excited for the next episode than any show I've ever seen.
- heroesdietrying, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4@Tobias:
Why do we need Claire? She hasn't done anything even remotely interesting in 3 seasons. Why do we need Noah? He's been giving us the same ***** for the past 3 seasons as well. I'm just glad they finally killed Nathan. Now they need to kill off Angela and start writing some action into the show and maybe it won't suck so much. - zip000, on 11/04/2009, -1/+5I think it is a descent show - comparing it to Lost is an idiot move: Lost is just too awesome.
I'm gonna give it a chance at least; it's been a pretty slow start I admit, but there is enough going on so far to keep me interested. - Akraz, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Yes there is.. 5th episode between Navi Rawat (plays Anita in 'Numb3rs', Maya in FlashForward) and Christine Woods (Agent Janis Hawk) in one of their houses. They are lesbians apparently.
They fully make out and kiss each other multiple times.
HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-ayQfoNBEk - cryonix, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Between episodes It's hard to tell if the story has moved forward at all. I'm tired of them explaining what happened to every ***** idiot even though they too experienced it. It's based too much on determinism. I'd like to see people killing themselves over what they saw in the future just to show it doesn't have to happen that way. Mix it up.
- ryansmith18, on 11/04/2009, -1/+4You must have been one of the only ones to watch it. NBC cancelled it :-/
Edit: Trauma, that is. Not Flashforward. - Fleagleman, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Should just have a very simple tagline so that people know what they're getting: "Flash Forward. It's not Lost."
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3The previous season finale of Lost was epic.
- edrift101, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3I'm just going to assume that the stem cell treatment didn't work and Jack died.
- lolwatermelon, on 11/04/2009, -1/+4V was pretty bad. Everyone seems to think they have to kill Alan Tudyk in the first episode and I'm getting tired of it.
- lolwatermelon, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3Point 6 has bugged me since the first episode. He had a flash forward that he was working on the mosaic and was close to finding the people behind it, so that means in six months he still won't know who did it. Why would you sit and spin your wheels for six months knowing it's getting you nowhere?
- SomeRandomGuy, on 11/04/2009, -1/+4I totally agree with you on the writing for the FBI. It's like all of them simultaneously have to act as dumb as the dumbest everyman, and in other moments be products of decades of specialized training and intelligence.
The second episode, when they're trying to convince their boss' boss that the event wasn't an accident, one of the FBI agents' first piece of evidence is. "It happened at exactly 10 o'clock on the dot. The odds of that are 1 in 3600." That's a ***** anecdote. It's not compelling evidence at all, and furthermore, 1 in 3600 odds are really not that high. You're an FBI agent, not an Obama Birther. Your job requires you to have ACTUAL EVIDENCE, and you somehow think you should lead with that!? No wonder they're threatening to cut off your funding. - daviz0, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2i don't know if im right or not i have no source to back it but i heard the original plan was to have a completely new set of heroes for season 2, at the time the creators said the had enough content for six seasons.
but then again if thats was true it would not of made sense that they named season one chapter 1.
i been thinking about re-watching season 1 just to see if it is as good as i remember cause based on 2,3 and 4 i dont know how it could be - IllBeBack, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I am still liking FlashForward. It's still interesting and the acting is ok to me.
Now, I did have to remove my season pass for "the forgotten". The premises and writing on that show were just too far-fetched and unbelievable. - lostradamus, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Agreed, the book is much better. Finished it in record time.
- WriterSD, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2@daviz0 -- I watched a few scenes from different season 1 episodes of Heroes earlier today and was amazed at how great even those small scenes were. (And so much better than what Heroes is now.) It made me sad about all the lost potential. :-(
