- bytor4232, on 07/09/2008, -1/+45Chevy Chase was actually banned from the show because he's a dick. Its only been till recently that Lorne has let him in the building.
- auricomnet, on 07/10/2008, -1/+38Bill Murray> Chevy Chase's lame ass
- baysidecomedy, on 07/10/2008, -0/+31I watch the show religiously and i have to say these episodes are are the worst
my list
1) Donald Trump
2) Paris Hilton
3) Jonny Moseley
4) Jackie Chan
5) Jon Bon Jovi (every sketch was basically about Bon Jovi) - digiframes, on 07/09/2008, -4/+31I'm sure there was more than 5.
- auricomnet, on 07/10/2008, -9/+35Bill Murray> Chevy Chase's lame ass
- koreaski, on 07/10/2008, -1/+25you know who was GOOD on that show? Phil Hartman.
man he would have been the ***** on Futurama - DrummerAndrew, on 07/09/2008, -0/+22Just because the cast didn't get along with Chevy doesn't mean it wasn't good tv. Tension can be excellently funny. Bill Murray and Chevy Chase throwing down? I'm there.
- sockpuppets, on 07/10/2008, -0/+20Uh how about Paris Hilton?
- Velnich, on 07/10/2008, -0/+20Poor Jodie Foster. :-(
- da_bradler, on 07/10/2008, -0/+19Norm McDonald gets my vote for one of the five best Saturday night live hosts. His monologue was outrageously funny. One of the few i have seen where I was 100% sure the host wrote there own.
- NathanJr, on 07/10/2008, -0/+17Two more notoriously awful hosts:
Steven Seagal - According to Al Franken, the worst SNL host ever. His humorlessness and terrible sketch ideas are recounted by multiple sources in "Live From New York." I saw the 1991 episode he hosted and I am inclined to agree. The following year, Nicolas Cage hosted SNL and made a joke in his monologue about being "the biggest jerk to ever host the show", to which Lorne Michaels replied "No, that would be Steven Seagal."
Robert Blake - When he hosted the show in 1982, he got angry at cast member Gary Kroeger over a sketch and threw the script at him. - kevman459, on 07/10/2008, -0/+16All 5 from the 70's? There have been hundreds of hosts I'm sure they could have reached across a couple decades to make the list a little more even.
- daworld, on 07/10/2008, -1/+16Andrew Dice Clay comes to mind....
- edebolt, on 07/10/2008, -0/+15Seagal is overrated for everything. Movie star, human being. everything.
- da_bradler, on 07/10/2008, -4/+18You need to bone up on your commenting skills, your comment lacks a coherent conclusion.
- pryoee4, on 07/10/2008, -0/+12Seriously, we heard you the first time.
- schavira, on 07/10/2008, -0/+12From what I've seen, I thought the Zappa SNL was great.
- tehsilentcircus, on 07/10/2008, -1/+12The article specifically states "awful" hosts.
Paris Hilton is light years beyond awful.... until another day I suppose. - jstem1994, on 07/10/2008, -0/+9I read the title and immediately thought Steven Segal would be #1.
- MasterGrief, on 07/10/2008, -1/+9Jackie Chan? What did he do wrong? Was the show's "in your face" attitude a bad match for his decided humbleness?
- ngmcs8203, on 07/10/2008, -0/+8Judging by the image of the author of the post, we can probably deduce that she hasn't watched an episode of SNL since 78..
- seraph582, on 07/10/2008, -0/+7Chevy Chase isn't lame. Hello 'Vacation' series. Classics. All of them. What a great - if not THE greatest - family comedy.
edit: but yeah, Bill Murray is better. He's not exactly the nicest guy in the world, either. Neither is Steve Martin or Dan Akroyd. I dunno why Chevy got soloed out here. - smacksaw, on 07/10/2008, -0/+7Damn right. When a dick Howard Stern says you're a dick, you're a dick.
- lawrenceboland, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6Some of his skits were hilarious. Overall episode though... meh.
- jstem1994, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6Come on, no Steven Segal??
- C02Charlie, on 07/10/2008, -1/+7Best shows ever were also from the 70's including some of the show's best hosts: Fran Tarkenton, Reggie Jackson and anytime Steve Martin was on.
But while SNL was uneven, at best, I always got a much bigger kick from Second City TV (SCTV) which aired immediately following SNL. Katherine O'Hara, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Harold Ramis, Martin Short, Andrea Martin, Dave Tomas, Joe Flaherty...an awesome cast most of whom went on to be big in Hollywood. - lawrenceboland, on 07/10/2008, -4/+9Chevy Chase does not belong on that list. Sure, he's a dick. Sure, his movie career fizzled. But he was one of the funniest in SNL's history. Just because he's a dick, doesn't mean he's not a good comedian.
- sabach, on 07/10/2008, -0/+5Zappa's appearance may have made the cast unhappy but it was great television, one of the funniest episodes I've ever seen.
- BirdCatcher, on 07/10/2008, -0/+5Lebron James. His Hi Deeerrrr sketch was so terrible it's as far into that episode as I can make it before turning it off.
- 9bpm9, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4All from the 70's?
- tallguyg, on 07/10/2008, -1/+5what about Tom Green?
- seraph582, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4Hi! you must be a 12 year old! Welcome to real people underpants and starting to think for yourself! I think you'll find that SNL *now* is HARDLY representative of what it used to be in the 70's, 80's, and 90's.
Feel free to go ***** yourself. - MacEnvy, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3I thought Steve Martin was a Jerk, not an *****.
- hydroplane, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3OHWWWW!
- stonebone4, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3How does this not have 200+ diggs? That's the main reason I stopped watching. Proof that they'll let anyone with any kind of publicity host, regardless of whether or not they have that "talent" thing.
- BelatedHero, on 07/09/2008, -3/+6I read this book about Saturday Night Live, I forget what the title is. But anyway, in it, one writer for the show described the "test" they used to see whether or not the guest host had a sense of humor and would choose to go with funny skits or lame ones. They would ask the host if they were interested in doing a skit titled "The William Holden Drinking Helmet". Which, while funny, is kind of awful. Poor William Holden fell and cut his head really badly while alone in his apartment. But he was so drunk he didn't realize how bad it was and bled to death.
- Vagari, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Not all the sports hosts are bad. Tom Brady had some funny parts... and Joe Montana had a classic...
"I'm gonna go up to my room to masturbate." *thinks, "I'm gonna go up to my room to masturbate"* - carpeclunes, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3I would have gone with that skit. I guess I fail the test.
- MacEnvy, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Yup, Zap Brannigan is the role Hartman was always meant to play. Alas.
- Kanten, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Where's Jennifer Aniston? Her "ask myself questions on a Japanese talk show" is by far the worst sketch I ever saw.
- SPRFRKR, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Wasn't there a "traumatic head injury guy" skit that had a similar premise with a guy with his head split open walking around a party?
- seraph582, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3100% true.
- tewcewl, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Yes. The guy was played by Dana Carvey.
- Wonderama, on 07/10/2008, -1/+4Paris' "monologue" consisted of she holding her ratty dog while it "spoke" with another similarly ugly dog held by an SNL cast member. The writers obviously trusted the acting talents of two animals over Paris. It went downhill from there.
- DarthNihilist, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Hickory Dickory Dock, Dice can go suck a *****.
- wiirdo, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Does anyone remember Nancy Kerrigan's appearance? She was awful! She was so nervous and the opening monologue was horrible. I was embarrassed as hell for her.
- drgmdp, on 07/10/2008, -1/+4anything zappa is great
- FlashBazbo, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Why? He's really not that attractive.
- buckygrad, on 07/10/2008, -1/+4The title wasn't "Every Awful Saturday Night Live Host"
- hollywoodphony, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2Medium talent!
