- er1ca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Does any one know if you can update windows in that new tab?"
yes you can - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1couldn't ask for anything more useful!
- bitwiseplatypus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works great until you hit the back button in an IE tab. Then suddenly you're back to using the Gecko engine.
- er1ca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to all the people who say this is old, i think you may be thinking this is the old extension that allows you to open a link in ie, this is different in that it doesn't launch a separate internet explorer window. you open internet explorer in a firefox tab.
- Cheeze_Head, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Firefox could not download the file at
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/extensions/ie_tab/ie_tab-1.0.3-fx-windows.xpi
because: Not a valid install package"
this is why I HATE firefox, among other reasons, now if only opera had a GOOD adblocking extention I would be using it, Yes I know it has one, but I said good as in easy to use like adblock for FF. - Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to use launchcast is easy you just have to add certain sites
- gaspero1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's a hidden danger in using this extension. This extension simply opens a page using the IE engine. That means you're essentially opening Internet Explorer, along with all of it's vulnerabilities, which defeats the purpose of using Firefox to begin with. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but from a security standpoint, this isn't an optimal solution.

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=59 - dukem72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dugg because the idea is great but here is my perpetual problem.
I use Mozilla as opposed to Firefox, the reason is that I like to have both browser and email application in one.
So each time a cool plugin comes out I go to try and install it I get lucky sometimes and the things works or about 90% of the time it downloads, then tries to install and fails.
The error is that the install script was not found.
I've asked around and not one person has led me in the right direction, so what say you?
Thanks. - bg_27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you get that missing plugin, install this AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SITE!
http://downloads.mozdev.org/ietab/ietab_plugin-1.0.3.xpi - jayknitter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dunno about anyone else, I couldn't get the extension to install from the original link. But with some searching I found one that works perfectly fine here:
http://ietab.mozdev.org/installation.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't crash Firefox here, but it simply won't work. It comes up with a missing plugin image everytime on all websites.
Good idea. Just doesn't work. - kyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's a hidden danger in using this extension. This extension simply opens a page using the IE engine. Well it's not like you have to use IE tab for every web site. I just use it to test my web pages. I don't know much but how would having this extension installed and not using it open a hole in firefox? - Draconiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"If it does not work, it’s you. If it crashes, welcome to windows. If the 'internets' scares you, stay off."
I agree blenderhead - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now if I can just get the dweebs I know who need this to make their sites work better for firefox to just use firefox and this ext.
- your_mom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hwo come when i open a link in an IE tab it says i am missin ga required plug in and it doesnt tell me the plug in???
- kourge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BTW, this extension's from Taiwan ;)
- altidude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm getting a runtime error when a financial web site is open using the extension. IE Tab is a great idea but I'll stick with the IE View extension for now. Hopefully the developer can get the bugs worked out of the IE Tab extension.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It'll be handy for developing web sites. Now I won't have that IE window cluttering up my screen. Btw, for those that didn't notice, you can just click the icon down in the status bar to switch between rendering engines. Pretty sweet :)
- fireworks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's nice.
Taiwanese do it.
Taiwan is a good place for me. - superspak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea i have it, plus you can get an extension that opens firefox pages in IE, not that you would actually want to do that :D

http://3couleurs.blogspot.com - crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IE View is much better.

"Developer Comments:
This is a great tool for web developers, since you can easily see how your webpage displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.
About the security issue:
IE is not loaded all the time. Only after you switch browser engine explicitly or add the website you trust to the white list. So, the security hole can be minimized. Besides, IE itself cannot access anything in Firefox."
If it does not work, it’s you. If it crashes, welcome to windows. If the 'internets' scares you, stay off. - mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0something to think about: not all sites render correctly in netscape/mozilla/firefox. ie is a necessary evil right now. not only does this plugin save the time of having to open up internet explorer in a new window, but it also allows your firefox plugins to work, to some extent, on that IE page. not all of them work, but more than the zero that work when you use IE by itself. works flawlessly for me so far in firefox 1.5rc1. dugg.
- lonewolf32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had to ditch it after a couple days. I noticed when I was in MSDN, hitting the Back button took me all the way back to the MSDN search page even though I had clicked through a few links since my search.
Also when I hit Ctrl-T (for a new tab) while IE was the active engine, nothing happened.
I'll check in on this later, but for now, IE View will work just fine. - luckyschop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good idea but it just doesn't work
- pancho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Missing pluggin can be found at
http://ietab.mozdev.org/installation.html - batmant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone else get the error (when trying to use windows update) saying that your iternet explorer is not a current enough of a version? email me trav.bowers [at] gmail [dot] [com]
- Marlon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Two words: bad a$$
Possibly best firefox digg ever? - burrito4891, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Double Digg, Just last night I was trying to view NASA's photojournal project of the solar system, and notice the pictures were getting f--- up, so I opened in explorer and it displayed perfectly. This is a fantastic idea! screw IE. thanks for the digg again.
- terafunker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple's Safari has a debugging feature that allows it emulate most other browsers by two clicks of a menu. Whenever something won't work--which has been exactly never--or I get blocked from a page--e.g. Microsoft.com or something--then all it takes is masking my browser and all is well.
Still, this sounds like a great FF plug-in to use on my PC--though I think I may have deleted IE. Well, knowing ol' Willy Gates & Co., it's still on my computer somewhere. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this broke my *****!
- ph3rny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0actually its v1.0-1.5rc1 if i remember right
cus im running it fine on 1.0.7 - theman8631, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fukn great digg++
- tweeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's the start of the death of IE!
i bet Microsoft will find a way from blocking us of doing it... - ph3rny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> only good if you are running firefox v1.0 - 1.0.5
why wouldn't you be? - jtray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The only word is WOW, I was able to do windows update using firefox with 2 simple downloads. A top Ten Firefox Extension.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn I want something like this for opera!
- live2die, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0only good if you are running firefox v1.0 - 1.0.5
- theman8631, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damnit
I Was so hoping i could listen to launchcast in firefox. - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoah, that's pretty cool. This will be really handy for stuff that doesn't work in FF.
- Braveheart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just Plain Brilliant
- Mirag3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just a little note, if you want to go back, you don't need to use the back button. Instead, use the alt-left shortcut, and youll end up with a page back in IE.
- psyonide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I find Launchy to be more versatile.
- er1ca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mattyG -
sorry about that. i did a search to see if this was already posted but didn't think i would have to go back as far as 2 months. - Mindstormer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Firefox just became more perfect! for me atleast! :)
- synsurgeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using Netscape 8 for months now which has the ability to switch between the gecko and internet explorer engines within the same tab. This seems like a step-back to me.
- msomers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The download for the reqired plugin doesn't seem to work...does anyone have a working mirror or anything?
- kourge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This totally kicks ass!
