Huh? You must be reading a different web than me. - andburn1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Are you ***** with me? I'd say people are pretty whelmed. The flaws have all been noted, and there are some that are actually notable, but overall, the reviews have been hailing it as "revolutionary." The NYT reported today that foreign and domestic cellphone manufacturerers are scared ***** - they think this thing could be the iPod of the cellphone market, and are racing to copy it. It's bite is pretty close to as bad as its bite. I hate digg stories that don't warrant reporting but get it anyways - opinions by people whose opinions I stake no higher than my own don't mean ***** and give people the wrong idea about what's really going on.
- MikeDugg, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9I don't know anyone who has ACTUALLY USED the iPhone to say that they are "underwhelmed" with it. Everyone that I talk to that has used it says they are truly blown away.
- BrandonMills, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11To be fair, iPhone does do what Apple wanted it to do. It's the first phone-ipod hybrid with the space and interface to be worth a damn.
The rest is hype. - jeriqo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4This phone is just great, and you, elitist geeks just have to admit it.
Stop complaining about anything that is popular.
I'm pretty sure most of the iPhone haters were amazed when they saw the first demonstrations, and begun to hate it when everyone talked about it.
That's just wrong.
Grow up. - jeriqo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You just got no taste.
Both the phone in the interface are beautiful.
Specially compared to the other crap available.
How about the multi-touch keyboard? - ricmac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm the publisher of Read/WriteWeb (the source of this story). This post, written by Alex Iskold, is actually a very insightful one - but unfortunately the person who submitted the story to digg failed to explain it properly. Instead of the pointless description above, it should've been: "iPhone is more than just a breakthrough mobile phone device. It is a strategy that may expand Apple's sphere of influence, from web browsing to social networking and even possibly search."
Also the title is wrong, they left off the 'why' at the start.
Now I see this story has been buried, due to the very poor submission by txas!! - ricmac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2again, if you read the story you'll see that it is much more than the description in this digg post. this should've been the descr: "iPhone is more than just a breakthrough mobile phone device. It is a strategy that may expand Apple's sphere of influence, from web browsing to social networking and even possibly search."
- vertov, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I second that! iPhone is finally gonna bring Internet to mobile phones. Over here in Europe there's a massive 3G infrastructure lying idle, as no one is willing to pay for half-assed WAP-sites. It doesn't matter if iPhones features are revolutionary or if there are soon gonna be other phones, that provide the same functionality. Apple just did it with two major achievements: a thought-out usability concept and a strong brand.
And you know what the proof is? The porn industry is going aboard! - MrFrosty, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I subscribe to several technology themed podcasts, I read a lot of tech review sites/blogs and all have either raved about how good the iphone is or at least have commented that it is a truly impressive piece of kit. I have yet to read anything were someone has said they are underwhelmed by it. Theres bound to be some kiljoy who is intent on knocking it despite how good it is.
- chazzzzy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Wow.. the Microsoft backed bloggers are having a hey day again! I read one blogger who tried to say that the iPhone was just as good as a windows mobile phone with a touch screen! EVERY SINGLE person I have met who actually HAS an iPhone (myself included) is completely BLOWN away by how amazing a piece of technology it is.
These complete BS stories really need to stop... I guess the Internet is becoming faux news as well! - randomgeek, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I really have to question the "Apple logo" claims people keep making. It's not the logo, it's the style. Everything about Apple anything is elegant and pretty. The majority of the "Web 2.0" look is directly from Apple. Vista is directly from Apple. The fact that PC's aren't drab boxes anymore is from Apple. I'm not saying people "ripped them off" but I'm saying that Apple has a major impact on the industry regardless of market share. The iPhone is revolutionary not in terms of features, but in terms of doing what Apple does best: Making electronics into usable art.
- andburn1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Wait wait wait a second. Are you REALLY trying to tell me that this device is not "revolutionary?" That there are other phones that even come close to meeting design and usability genious with original functionality to bring us a brand new device? Sure, other phones can surf the web - but anywhere near as satisfactorily as the iPhone? Others can play music, but do I really need to even comment on this aspect? You're hating on the iPhone for the sake of hating. Hating Apple maybe. I don't give a *****. Sure, Apple's brand gives this device a LOT that it wouldn't have otherwise, but it's still by far one of the best mobile devices ever conceived of. Forget a few missing features - that does not make or break the concept of the product. In two generations, it'll have G3, video capability, and ***** copy & paste. Actually, two of those could be fixed with software updates. WHAT THE ***** ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT MAN?
- Dazabrit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1This article is pure hyperbolicilized speculation but; the funny thing is....
I actually recall seeing some patents (filed by Apple) relating to social networks.
It's a damn shame I can't be bothered to search for them though :o) - queraxus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1digg bait. Marked as lame.
- Phr00t, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Apple is amazing for selling hyped products... they could sell a hair trimmer and fanboys would go wild. The iPhone is nothing but a step back in features and affordability.
- steveoco, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I don't own one and was never really into the hype as it just choked up my normal net browsing.
But from the majority of videos I have seen of live previews... I see lots of small glitches or functionality problems. Small browser crashes or things don't seem to go as expected. It might be awesome but it seems far from perfect. - merkk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0No one is complaining because its popular. We're complaining because of all the stupid people who are willing to pay for an item that's way over-price and that has some significant short-comings and still fall all over themselves to buy it. Why in the hell would anyone buy a phone where you cant replace the battery yourself? Why would anyone buy a phone with that many data intensive functions but no external memory slot? Because it's made by apple, and apple is cool. so they must buy it.
Yes, it's a phone with some very cool features and a very cool interface. No, it's not a gift directly from a god and some of us are kind of tired of hearing about the iphone every 30 seconds. - zackkitzmiller, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1That's exactly true. I've been telling my father for years that the device itself is arbitrary. It's the fact that it's Apple branded that's important. It could be Apple Logo Bookend speakers with WiFi, and the they crowd (including myself) would go ape-*****.
- merkk, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Can you stop with the links to iphone stories already. It's getting a little boring. At this point I almost miss seeing paris hilton in jail stories ... well ok, not really :)
- Phr00t, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Does the iPhone /really/ matter if you need a story titled "iPhone May Really Matter" to try and convince people it does?
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -5/+2"The hype was both met and a bit too much."--You're not helping the hype any by reposting a blog about it on Digg. :-[
- TerraFire99, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4As usual. Another Apple product to throw on the ***** list.
- controltheweb, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1iPhone parody:

- pinkninja, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2I agree with that!
