- giveaphuk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42hmm, yet another great way to hide porn!
- buss, on 10/12/2007, -26/+48In Bush's America, News Watches You!
- Hoekenheef, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Sweet, now I can shave whilst being distracted! Yes! Slit throat goodness!
- hiro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16These are not the 'droids you're looking for
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Sounds like it's almost time for a new round of Darwin Awards.
- Hoekenheef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Yeah, and the ones at bars will tell you if you're too "*****-faced" to drive home.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Hey, the link is down. Does anyone have a MIRROR? BWAHAHAHAHAHA
- pjsk8, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19Too bad you can't really look at my mirror while on the toilet. Otherwise, I'd have no problems emptying my bowels to Paris Hilton's face. Looking at her makes me want to unleash something of unspeakable evil.
All Paris Hilton jokes aside, this is a very good idea. Dugg for an interesting concept. - screensnot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9DrWho is exactly right. He was modded down by people who don't know how a one-way mirror works.
- Fashion_Nugget, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This is old school, "This Old House" did this about 10-15 years ago with a small CRT TV.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8^ no it wouldn't. 1 way mirrors work by allowing a certain % of light in and out either direction usually the more transparent side is kept dark, since the less light there is on that side, the more the reflective side looks like a normal mirror. however, if you cup your hands around a 1 way mirror you can see what's behind it. having a lit lcd display will just make it even easier to see through when it's on
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Cough, cough. Hey, anyone interesting in another article about how two-way mirrors and existing televisions are being used to stylize living quarters? Food for though instead of arguing whether its "one-way" or not. FYI, the date of the article below is September 27, 2004.
http://www.bookofjoe.com/2004/09/wash_tv_a_mirro.html
"For the most part, all have installed the system themselves using televisions they already had - the McNetts used one with a 13-inch screen. The biggest expense is a two-way mirror, called mirror/pane glass by those in the industry. The material has a reflective coating fused inside and costs $11 to $16 per square foot compared to $4 to $6 for standard mirror glass. The special glass usually has a slight amber or bluish tint to it." - dmsteg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Maybe one day, someone will invent a device like a computer that will sit on the top of your lap for while you go to the john... oh... and maybe sometime after that they can make it so that you don't need wires to access the Internet with it... kinda "wire-less" per se... but I can see how an LCD behind the mirror makes more sense.
- djdole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh boy... what a dick....
Hanthus, do you actually know ANYTHING about one way mirrors? Unless EXTREMELY high quality (and so, extremely expensive), one way mirrors are RARELY truly ONE way. With a darkened back side and a bright enough screen/backlight, a display could EASILY be seen though a mirror such as this.
Especially indoors (which is obviously one of the sales points of the device).
Aaannnnnd...
While your prejudicial libel may in reality be correct, it seems more likely that your bigoted comments on "DrWho" (whom I highly doubt you've met in person, let-alone know well enough about to make any personal comments or evaluations about), are more likely the result of you projecting your own personal self loathing upon others.
Anyways, WTF did anyone (except maybe me with this comment) say that would cause that huge bug to crawl so far up your ass?
Digg points to DrWho for the insightful comment. Minus for Hanthus for annoying intolerance. - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'd hate to see your face after trying to shave and watch porn at the same time.
- WhidbeyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think you mean "bodge" as in British slang for DIY on the cheap rather than botch, as in to F*** it up.
(I'm not saying that I haven't botched up a few things I've tried to bodge myself, just that I think you didn't type what you meant.) - sirber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6great site... a Flash object surrounded by pictures...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7or will they.....friggin sweet
- allenu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You don't need this.
- neverender, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5this was in my smarthome catalog like two years ago.
pretty expensive.
http://www.smarthome.com/8376SG.HTML - Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Cool use of one way glass. I bet it reduces the brightness and contrast ratio quite a bit though.
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Cool, but why in the bathroom in front of the sink? Unless the toilet is right in front of it :P
- TheScotsman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4or better yet, your wife's face when she walked in on you shaving and watching porn at the same time.
- marathon851, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3TV's in mirrors have been available for years....get over it
- nargilamonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think a badass application of this would be in controlling it. Assuming you put something behind the mirror, like an iBook, you'd be able to control it with say, a bluetooth keyboard and mouse...or remotely via VNC. Either way you can amuse yourself with whatever, or creep out your guests.
Say you're having a dinner party. One of your guests has just gotten up to go to le crappiere. Do you want them to miss the party? No, of course not, so you feed a live webcam feed of the party into the bathroom mirror and pump up the volume on the toilet speakers and subwoofer... - Alkali, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This be used to make a rather scary spook-house effect.
- Thezeppelin62, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3you dont really need it because people arent going to sit in their bathroom and watch the latest episode of Family Guy
- JRMillion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I do some website work with a Appliance and Electronics store, and they sell these.
They had a builders night, and had a demo unit of these, and people were oddly mesmerized... - Gatowag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Nobody said it was new technology... They just wanted to share it with us, because they thought it was "neat" technology.
- mikeroq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The 6th day?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5..cathode ray tube is a neat technology too, but it's also old and not worth talking about on a tech site.
- Burns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2but will it pass the fake mirror test where if you touch the glass and the reflection seems to touch your fingernail its fake glass?
- kysle, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11If it was a one way mirror than the mirrored part would have to be facing the LCD.
- brentz0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have one of these in my hosue... It's not even close to new technology and it doesn't work very well. The mirror is partially reflective and partially translucent... so it's not good for watching the tv OR for using it as a monitor. I need to have the light turned all the way up to see even a little bit when I'm shaving... this is definitely not digg worthy
- ReXorcist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now you can really freak someone out by having them chant "Bloody Mary" and turing on some haggard face in the LCD.
- tablatronix, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8why was dr who buried ?
he stated exactly what this is and hes right. - Darthmalt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dunno people have time to read this, http://www.bathroomreader.com/ great book btw, and if you face the mirror toward your tub you can watch it while in there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I enjoy the Possibilities. PORN EVERWHERE!!!
- JoeWall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3they need to hire a better webdesigner. their ad on the front page blocks the menu
- Xplorer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree completly.....
Not only is this OLD but there are much better uses.....
Rearview backup displays mounted directly in the mirror...... Been installing them for a LONG ass time.....
http://www.laipac.com/multimedia-rear-mirror.htm - SatansMagicHat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2pretty neat technology? It's a ***** jpeg with another picture superimposed. Show us the real thing!!!!!1
- dandyhighwayman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now Katie Couric can watch me shave!
- hadees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know why this is burried. He is 100% correct it is only a one way mirror. I saw this exact same thing on "This Old House". They put a regular LCD TV behind a "oneway" mirror. If you have ever seen a oneway mirror you know if you put your face right up against the reflective part you can see through it. The LCD being so bright shines through.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"people arent going to sit in their bathroom and watch the latest episode of Family Guy"
Speak for yourself! - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4A one way mirror with a flat panel behind it takes up a lot of depth. A mirror with an OLED display (because having a backlight isn't really a viable option either) in it is not much thicker than a plain old mirror, if it is at all.
- bytefoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They have these in bars all around Austin, TX. For a while now too. :/
- OneZeroZeroOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hopefully soon I will be able to plug a tv into my head while I sleep so that I can finally realize true 24/7 advertising exposure. "This dream brought to you by Coca Cola. Coca Cola reminds you to keep it real while you sleep. Dream on!"
- screensnot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, an infrared TS would work fine with this setup. And you can buy them now, or even several years ago for that matter.
