there is a graphical partitioning tool called GNU Parted, and it is free open source software. This runs from a "Live CD". Regardless of which operating system you are going to install, this will do the trick. - bigpresh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4nah, GNU parted is the way to go:
http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/parted.html - peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"3) anyone try it yet? How does it compare to the commercial apps like partition magic?"
It can't resize partitions. So IMHO is doesn't compare at all. - EricG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doesn't support partition resizing.. I hoped it would.. perhaps next version. Otherwise it looks like a promising program..
- sailor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1doesn't format non-fat partitions...I will continue to use my pirated software
- AndyManCan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You might find that a 'Good idea' Kinda sucks when something goes wrong and you can't boot your machine OR your partitioning software!
- DickBreath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Use System Rescue CD. See the screenshots...
http://www.sysresccd.org/screenshots.en.php - AmZa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1t.toe : It beats buying/pirating partition magic, AWESOME DIGG.. I know tons of people will benefit from this.
- olorinpc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11) A partition is a way to split your drive... if you dont even know what one is... dont try it.
2) use iso buster if you dont want to burn it it cd.
3) anyone try it yet? How does it compare to the comercial apps like partition magic? - KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it do non-volatile partitioning?
- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I always end up wondering how many times I will have to partition my hard drive to get my $60 worth."
Cool utilities are one of the few things I don't mind paying money for. DiskWarrior is $70, but it's invaluable whenever it saves your ass. - SDNick484, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cfdisk is free, found on almost every linux distro install disk and live cd, and simple to use. Last I checked, it can't non-destructively resize ntfs, but there's other free Linux programs that can.
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"nah, GNU parted is the way to go"
I use the gparted frontend for parted. Works perfectly and supports more filesystems than this free one. Still, it won't do NTFS because Microsoft are a bunch of bastards who won't tell anyone their filesystem specs. I doubt any free utility will ever be able to properly resize or create NTFS partitions since they can't pay the huge fees to Microsoft for the specs. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know there should be a mandatory spell check done on every digg submission! Next thing you know there will be a duplicate because someone can't find partition because they didn't search for "partion"
I googled "partion" and I found 143,000 examples of people misspelling partition.
I agree with most of the posts here that the most important thing partition software can do besides creation and formatting would be to resize partitions without data loss. Without this you are wasting your time. - kadavill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These are better than this crap

http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4701 - shit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3> "what's a partion?"
> "google it."
Hilarious. - DrRo183, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heh, I use the one from work...:P
- gregbarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you're looking for a commercial solution, recently http://www.partition-manager.com/ is looking to be a far better choice than Partition Magic. It's many times faster than PM for some operations. Though sadly it looks like they don't have the functionality to resize partions, just partitions.
- m0bilitee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Knoppix and QTparted works great for me.
- Thranduil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why are people saying parted doesn't resize NTFS? It's the only thing I use to resize NTFS (with the qtparted front end).
- nihilism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who the hell needs to pirate? fdisk, cfdisk, man, there are a ***** load of free programs for this crap, who spends money on this?
- t.toe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1bollocks... you have to burn it onto CD before you can use it. that's annoying.
- iknow81810, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think rccola70 actually was asking what a partition is, but rather trying to point out that the poster misspelled the word. Notice he spelled it P-A-R-T-I-O-N. Oh well, I guess it backfired and made him just look like a retard. -_-

>A Peurto Rican Martian?
What's a "Peurto Rican"? - OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can manually delete partitions with a hexeditor pointed at the MBR.
But honestly I've found GNU Parted to do everything I needed. But I suppose my needs don't include resizing NTFS partitions.
MacOS X includes the ability to resize partitions for free. Maybe this Microsoft stuff isn't worth the effort anymore. - FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fdisk rules! Behotchies!
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW THANKS NOW I CAN DELETE MY PARTIONS. WHATEVER THEY ARE.
why not crack some software for deleting partitions instead. - MrDeagol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gotta be able to resize. pm has been doing it for years plus works from a floppy.
- samwyse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This past Monday, I used Qtparted from the System Rescue CD to shrink an NTFS partition on a new laptop. Yes, there were warnings, but it worked flawlessly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Come on, I know what a partition is, but a partion?
Funny how every google result for partion is from people who were trying to spell partition.... - bigpresh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1> > "what's a partion?"
> "google it."
Googling...
"Did you mean: partition" .... ah. Google truly knows all. :-) - N3LDAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0qtparted works great with ntfs, this prog sucks, I hate you you ripped off Scott Moschella.
- arcman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I tried the ISO, the CD fails to boot in multiple machines.
The floppy would at least boot up, but it detected partitions improperly, or wouldn't detect them at all.
Ranish Partition Manager is far better, and though I haven't used it myself, I expect GNU Parted to be equally better. - Gonzokid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0paragon partition manager is a comprehensive solution, anyway!
download it here http://www.partition-manager.com/demo.htm - any of the editions is available - subinhoomer, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0I google partition manager find some freeware bellow:
paragon http://www.partition-manager.com/
I have not used,no comment!
easeus partition manager
I download from brother soft
http://www.brothersoft.com/easeus-partition-manage ...
It worked OK, but failed when i tried to merge partition. so i have to allocated the free space to another partition. Partition magic may merge two partitions which will cost you $69.95
cute partition manager
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/freeware/partition ... - Aflat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have used Qtparted to resize ntfs, but it has lots of warnings. It didn't corrupt anything, and I've used it many times, but it says it might.
Its free, and its on a live boot CD, system rescue that a few have linked already. - CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> > "what's a partion?"

ironically the first hit is this page - kadavill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0commercialy acronis disk director is the best
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/ - ddavis1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Would this work for cloneing my stock HD from my Softmoded Xbox to a bigger drive?
- compgeek275, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0knoppix and qtparted worked perfectly for non-destructive partitioning and resizing of partions on my NTFS drive, no reason to change
- Tricky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wouldn't trust freeware partitioning software. Pirate PMagic and rest assured that your well-pirated software is working for you.
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most Linux install CD's also come with drive partitioning software as part of their installation process. You can use that in a pinch to delete old partitions, and reboot before the actual install begins.
While you're at it, you might want set up some dual boot action :) - skyshark88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Frodo and it's free
- N3LDAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0you ripped thsi off from scott moschella. http://plasticbugs.com right down to the description. You suck. No digg from me... (and I preffer QTParted, it rocks, but no hfs+ support)
- moorey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Is spelling such a tough thing for Digg story submitters?
- seand, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1its at version 0.57. Give the devs a break! With each release it gets better and better. Instead of bitching about its limitations and going back to stealing from others, why not test it out, submit suggestions/bugs and help them make a product you would be happy with using? SHEESH!
DUG! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2what's a partion?
- raj3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"It beats buying/pirating partition magic"
beats buying for sure but unless you dont know what your doing piratings better - salweem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2google it.
- TheSnazzyOne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Dudes, haven't you all seen the sweet tools on bit torrent? http://digg.com/software/New_Torrents_USB_Flash_Drive_Versions_of_Digg_s_Most_Talked_About_BootCD_s
