- canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -7/+132Damn. She doesn't look a day over 127. :)
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -14/+115She's a woman. She's already spoken enough for *two* lifetimes.
- R4wBon3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+83that'd be impressive if she hadn't gone blind in 1948.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -7/+68NO!
She doesn't speak, because she realized, some years ago, that people don't listen, or they don't ever hear what is said.
At some point, a person no longer is willing to 'go along with the game'
and prolong the self-serving illusions of others. - flyingspatula, on 10/12/2007, -3/+58Guinness probably needs a birth certificate or other official validation of the date of birth.
Some of these central/South American countries and European nations did not have this form of validation/registry.
That's probably the reason for the disparity.
I know my grandfather isn't sure when his real birthday is.... but he has it narrowed down to 2 dates. - rYno, on 10/12/2007, -6/+58that is insane... think of the stuff she's seen in her lifetime... god...
- ashester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42best thing about being 128 years old... no peer presure
- daggerhart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41If you can make it past 100 you've got it made.
Very few people die after that age.
-George Burns - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43make that 4 lifetimes.. she's as old as 2 senior citizens combined.
- SyDIGG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+372006 = 21st century
1878 = 19th century
...........two centuries ago (in the same vain as saying 2 days ago) ...simple enough for you to understand? - flyingspatula, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37Its a wonderful thing that someone lives to this age, but its sad that she doesn't talk much.
If someone has been around for that long, imagine the experience that they've lived through??
If nothing else, I would think that academics would want to discuss her specific insight on her culture and her opinion on change.
Surrounded by close to 200 members of her family. What an incredible feeling to realize that you've had such an impact/part in bringing this many people into the world.
Wow. Happy birthday. - treed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Yay for overflowing the 7-bit mark.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29Infinitely long life is seriously bad for earth, once our population gets much higher than it already is, earth is going to go poof.
- ArmchairAthlete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19 What does she do with all the web forms/ age verification pages that only go back to like 1900?
- R4wBon3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23We need a specialist to get down there and make a gene imprint right away!
- Bobwise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I saw a story on Digg recently saying that the first person to live over 1000 years has already been born.
- agentcooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13The phonograph was patented by Thomas Edison the year she was born, wild.
- SyDIGG, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17She was born in 1878 ...how many person you know that was born two centuries ago?
- st00p1d, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Does anyone ever think, that with all of the advances in medicine we'll see, that sometime in the next few hundred years non-accidental death will be a thing of the past? Once the aging process can be stopped (by regenerating cells) and most major diseases cured, there is nothing stopping people from living indefinately (barring accidental death).
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15^^^^ @pointaken, Hey dumbass, at a 128 years old you aint going to look better than that. In fact i'm pretty sure you're just going to be a pile of bones by then.
Actually I think she looks great for the age. I'm glad that she is still aware and able to smile for the camera :). - ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15That by far the most disgusting comment in the histroy of this website.
+digg for you. - Bandito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Hernandez, who relatives say spends most of her time dozing..."
Umm... check her pulse. What else are you going to do at 128? She's certainly not looking at internet pron
"was surrounded by some 200 people at her party"
I'm guessing they didn't all yell SURPRISE. - PhantomZmoove, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yeah, I'm not buying the 1000 year thing either. I'm thinking that hitting 100 will become common place in our lifetimes though.
- tfinniga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Meh. I'll be interested again when she's 256.
- R4wBon3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12yeah but there is a +/- 20 year certianty; didn't you read the footnotes?
- rishid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Haha nice that was the quote from Google HP module yesterday
- MrUnderbridge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The guy who's always spouting that 1000 years crap is a crackpot. Lots of half-understood pseudoscience. Don't count on it.
- CosmicJustice, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11What would it mean to increase lifespans to 1000 years? Could we still have children without over populating? Would we outlive our children and grandchildrens ability to tolerate us? When you were 2,3 or 4 centuries old would you be able to remember your childhood? I'm not sure living forever wouldn't be a curse.
- MrUnderbridge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Just a guess, but since she's blind, 128 years old, and lives absolutely in the middle of nowhere, I'm guessing the web isn't a problem she's elected to take on.
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Damn, I was just about to say that :)
Wouldn't it be nice if the Universe stored people's age as a signed char? Then after you turn 128, you'd be in fact -127 year old, so you'd have the whole life ahead of you :D - willrawls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What I find interesting is she's in El Savador which means she hasn't had the benefit of most of the Western medicine technology and pharmacology we have.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8She was 17 when my grandpa was born. That's pretty crazy.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Stay away from sharp objects.
- wompwomp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Honestly, I can't say I'd want to live that long. I mean, I certainly want a long and full life but I definitely want to be cognizant of what's going on and enjoying my existence. This article reminds me of a particular lyric from a song I like:
"I don't want to live to be 80,
Life's a cycle...the older you get the more you live like a baby." - kacymartin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7wikipedia is the official list?
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well I don't know about you but I'd say human life is pretty closely related to science...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5She's so old.. she farts dust
- R4wBon3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Christmas cards are not a problem for her.. She dated Gutenberg on holiday one year and he made her an ink block mail merge.
- briansalo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"According to national records, Hernandez was born on May 3, 1878, in one of the countries central provinces, where she gave birth to 13 children. She now has 60 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren."
Wow, that's gotta make sending birthday/christmas cards and gifts a real nightmare... - Durrok, on 10/12/2007, -13/+17R4wBon3, that made me spit water everywhere... NJ man.
- Clob, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12You would hit that? Dude... Its like opening a grilled cheese! Sick!
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -2/+5that might be true, but im willing to bet she still has a myspace account!
ZING!!! - cadavreexquis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3She may be the oldest but she's not the coolest! Marie Bremont knew Van Gogh!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/1374164.stm - MattLat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4She looks really good for being so old! I think that she might be directly related to more people than I even know.
- Crumbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Reported as old news.
- StarSaber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2According to the organization, the longest any woman has ever lived is 122 years. The oldest man was 120 when he died in 1986.
If this lady's claims are true it is truly amazing.
This fact is amazing. The only problem, according to the Wikipedia is that the male record holder's title is in dispute.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shigechiyo_Izumi - wayjer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LOL! Yeah when you comment down here in the dregs, it really is old news isn't it! : ) (listening to:nickelback:photograph)
- geniusj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ouch. Imagine how much longer it would take before any progress could be made in society if everyone lived that long. We'd have 900 year old senators and the gap between the young and the old would be immense. With people the way they are, 1000 years would be a nightmare. I'm very glad that most people don't live past 100 (or usually anywhere near it). It's good to sweep society clean every once and a while and start with fresh minds and ideas (even with the influence of the previous generation).
- Sippi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4You guys are sick....talking about great-great granny porn.
- pointaken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the way you think
