- forrest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think "Amazing list of tech facts" is a bit misleading, no? It should read "Plagiarized list of mildly to non-interesting trivia" imho.
- astroroach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I hate flaming, but that's got to be the lamest thing I've every seen on Dugg.
- mrfloppy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1telnet is mostly used for accessing databases? HUH!
tell that to my servers - clabbergrrl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There definitely should be a place to award "lame points" or anti-diggs. These should not be subtracted from the digg points though, they should be displayed alongside, so a link could have a high digg score *and* a high lame score.
Also, any link that gets a high lame score is still going to get a lot of page views, so it's not necessarily bad for them. - Knightfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmmm ... first time I have ever reported a story as lame. Weak list of weak pseudo-facts.
- ipugh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2LOL theOther is spot on.
- spamdies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes the anti digg button is the report as lame button.
- acontorer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These are certainly not amazing. Is there an Anti-Digg button I can click to subtract some points?
- jinxie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1google's "googol" thing is on their about page.
- magneticpigeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree....there should be anti-diggs as well.
- jason7655, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want to go to this "Deep Web". :-)
- diggmeplease, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wht thank you mockstar! lol
- munkt0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1um, "Telnet is one of the oldest forms of Internet connections. Today, it is used primarily to access online databases."
I don't think I've ever used telnet to access a database. - nburnett2008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1| went through the trouble of logging in just to mark as "Lame"
- pvera, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This list is a turd. It is full of non-facts, repetitions and obsolete crap. I mean, when was the last time you used Archie, Veronica or a god damn gopher? I haven't seen a gopher running since 1996 at the very latest.
- eponymous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At least *some* of these "facts" are wrong, or at best misleading. While CompuServe was one of the first, if not the first, service to allow users to "go online" it was not, at the time, an ISP. You could not get TCP/IP (or any other protocol) service from them. The first commercial ISP was UUNET Technologies, Inc. (despite occasional claims to the contrary by PSI). Also, I doubt very seriously that the primary modern usage of telnet is to connect to databases. There are more errors in the list, but I think my point has been made.
- softmod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Needs to be updated:
"Domain names can be really sell at high prices! The most expensive domain name was 'business.com', which was bought by eCompanies for $7.5 million in 1999."
Sex.com sold for $14 million recently.... - the0ther, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5if you didn't know the googol-google thing you are truly retarded
- gadgetbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, lame thing to see on the front page
- robnoxious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not a very detailed list.
- No Digg - StephnDolenc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i like how the description gives the most obvious "tech fact"
content does need to be updated - rhyno2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...or how about exclamation points!! Dur.
- diggmeplease, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why*
- StephnDolenc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nothing about how amd reverse engineered intel's cips in the 80s when they were getting started...
missing one of the coolest tech facts -- worth undigging / marking as lame - rhyno2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This headline needs more explanation points.
- meagan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some facts are common knowledge, others are less known.
Worth a read, but no digg. - kanned, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uh, man..
This guy needs to get his "facts" straight..
Yahoo! - Yahoo! started out as "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web" but eventually received a new moniker with the help of a dictionary. "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle" is a backronym for "yahoo!", but Filo and Yang insist they selected the name because they liked the word's general definition, as in Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift: "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth." - MannaPC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is so freakin lame.... Most of this is either none, or I believe that he made a few of those up by "logic"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Domain names can be really sell at high prices! The most expensive domain name was 'business.com', which was bought by eCompanies for $7.5 million in 1999."
Sex.com was just sold for 25 million. kthx - nburnett2008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0| went through the trouble of logging in just to mark as "Lame"
- LatvianHedgehog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0said to be 500 times larger
500 TIMES MORE PORN ! YEAH ! - maddancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This gets the O RLY award for today. Completely worthless.
- mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh come on people!!! What more do you want!?
Amazing, List, Tech, Facts - it's EVERYTHING that Digg is all about. This is why I come here. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i would like a blog filter on digg
- dbzer0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The search engine "Lycos" is named for Lycosidae, the Latin name for the wolf spider family."
What the hell? Lycos means Wolf in greek. That's it. What do spiders have to do with it? - jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0some are interesting, most are unnecessary information. Boring....
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The morning after Internet Explorer 4 was released, certain mischievous Microsoft workers left a 10 by 12 foot letter 'e' and a balloon with the message, "We love you", on Netscape front lawn."
/that's just plain nasty - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOw this is what digg.com is all about...
DIG DUG - tryfailure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who can't love a list where indecipherable items are used such as this:
"Did you know that the name of the famous search engine AltaVista came into existence when someone accidentally read and suggested the word 'Vista' on an unclean whiteboard as 'Alta Vista'?" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Interesting.
- WormholeFiend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Chuck Norris is not impressed
- diggmeplease, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0OK well thanks theOther. We all really appreciate that.
"if you didn't know the googol-google thing you are truly retarded" - rafleming, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1God damn it! ***** digg. I'm retiring from this site.
I can't believe this ***** made it to the front page. WTF !? - mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0ignore everyone else - this is a truely *AMAZING* list
- mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Vin Diesel ate Chuck Norris
